Breaking the degeneracy between gas inflow and outflows with stellar metallicity: Insights on M101

An analytical chemical evolution model is constructed to investigate the radial distribution of gas-phase and stellar metallicity for star-forming galaxies. By means of the model, the gas-phase and stellar metallicity can be obtained from the stellar-to-gas mass ratio. Both the gas inflow and outflow processes play an important role in building the final gas-phase metallicity, and there exists degeneracy effect between the gas inflow and outflow rates for star-forming galaxies. On the other hand, stellar metallicity is more sensitive to the gas outflow rate than to the gas inflow rate, and this helps to break the parameter degeneracy for star-forming galaxies. We apply this analysis method to the nearby disc galaxy M\,101 and adopting the classical $χ^{2}$ methodology to explore the influence of model parameters on the resulted metallicity. It can be found that the combination of gas-phase and stellar metallicity is indeed more effective for constraining the gas inflow and outflow rates. Our results also show that the model with relatively strong gas outflows but weak gas inflow describes the evolution of M\,101 reasonably well.

Kerr-Newman-AdS Black Hole Surrounded by Perfect Fluid Matter in Rastall Gravity

The Rastall gravity is the modified Einstein general relativity, in which the energy-momentum conservation law is generalized to $T^{μν}_{~~;μ}=λR^{,ν}$. In this work, we derive the Kerr-Newman-AdS (KN-AdS) black hole solutions surrounded by the perfect fluid matter in the Rastall gravity using the Newman-Janis method and Mathematica package. We then discuss the black hole properties surrounded by two kinds of specific perfect fluid matter, the dark energy ($ω=-2/3$) and the perfect fluid dark matter ($ω=-1/3$). Firstly, the Rastall parameter $κλ$ could be constrained by the weak energy condition and strong energy condition. Secondly, by analyzing the number of roots in the horizon equation, we get the range of the perfect fluid matter intensity $α$, which depends on the black hole mass $M$ and the Rastall parameter $κλ$. Thirdly, we study the influence of the perfect fluid dark matter and dark energy on the ergosphere. We find that the perfect fluid dark matter has significant effects on the ergosphere size, while the dark energy has smaller effects. Finally, we find that the perfect fluid matter does not change the singularity of the black hole. Furthermore, we investigate the rotation velocity in the equatorial plane for the KN-AdS black hole with dark energy and perfect fluid dark matter. We propose that the rotation curve diversity in Low Surface Brightness galaxies could be explained in the framework of the Rastall gravity when both the perfect fluid dark matter halo and the baryon disk are taken into account.

A mathematical form of force-free magnetosphere equation around Kerr black holes and its application to Meissner effect

Based on the Lagrangian of the steady axisymmetric force-free magnetosphere (FFM) equation around Kerr black holes(KBHs), we find that the FFM equation can be rewritten in a new form as $f_{,rr} / (1-μ^{2}) + f_{,μμ} / Δ+ K(f(r,μ),r,μ) = 0$, where $μ= -\cosθ$. By coordinate transformation, the form of the above equation can be given by $s_{,yy} + s_{,zz} + D(s(y,z),y,z) = 0$. Based on the form, we prove finally that the Meissner effect is not possessed by a KBH-FFM with the condition where $dω/d A_ϕ \leqslant 0$ and $H_ϕ(dH_ϕ/dA_ϕ) \geqslant 0$, here $A_ϕ$ is the $ϕ$ component of the vector potential $\vec{A}$, $ω$ is the angular velocity of magnetic fields and ${H_ϕ}$ corresponds to twice the poloidal electric current.

White-dwarf+main-sequence binaries identified from the tenth data release of Solan Digital Sky Survey

We have presented 309 new white-dwarf (WD) + main-sequence (MS) star binaries identified from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Tenth Data Release (DR10). The majority of them consist of a white dwarf and a low-mass secondary (typically M dwarf) companion. The SDSS spectra of the newly found WDMS binaries with a DA/DB white dwarf and an M/late-K dwarf companion are analyzed based on a spectral decomposition/fitting method. White dwarf effective temperatures, surface gravities and masses together with the secondary star spectral types are obtained, and the stellar parameters of DA WDs with $T_{\rm eff}\la 14,000$ K are revised to the results in the case of 3D model atmosphere. Two independent distance estimates are derived from the flux-scaling factors between the WDMS SDSS spectra and the white dwarf and M-dwarf model spectra. It is found that about more than 20 per cent of the newly found WDMS binaries show a significant discrepancy between the two distance estimates. This might be caused by the effects of M-dwarf stellar activity or irradiation of the M dwarf companions by the white dwarf. The stellar parameter distributions are used to investigate the global properties of newly found WDMS binaries, the results shown in this work are consistent with those derived by previous investigators. Some WDMS binaries have been observed more than one ($2-4$) times by SDSS, it is found that four of them exhibit not only Hydrogen emission in all observable Balmer series lines in addition to He I line Balmer lines but also the rapid variation in the radial velocities of the components in these binaries. This suggests that they should be the post common envelope binaries (PCEBs) with a short orbital period. These young PCEBs are very important for limiting the results of common envelope phase of the binary evolution.
