Minimal $Z'$ models for flavor anomalies

By allowing gauge anomaly cancellation between fermions in different families we find a non-universal solution for a $Z'$ family of models with the same content of fermions of the standard model plus three right-handed neutrinos. We also impose constraints from the Yukawa interaction terms in such a way that at the end we obtain a solution with six free parameters. Our solution contains as particular cases well-known models in the literature. As an application, we report a model that evades LHC constraints, flavor changing neutral currents and low energy constraints. Simultaneously, the model is able to explain the flavor anomalies in the Wilson coefficients $C_9(μ)$ and $C_{10}(μ)$ without modifying the corresponding Wilson coefficients for the first family. In our approach, this procedure is always possible for $Z'$ masses smaller than $\sim 2.5$~TeV.

Lepton number violation and neutrino masses in 3-3-1 models

Lepton number violation and its relation to neutrino masses is investigated in several versions of the $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_x$ model. Spontaneous and explicit violation and conservation of the lepton number are considered. In one of the models (the so-called economical one), the lepton number is spontaneously violated and it is found that the would be Majoron is not present because it is gauged away, poviding in this way the longitudinal polarization component to a now massive gauge field.

LHC Constraints on 3-3-1 Models

The ATLAS detector data on di-lepton production is used in order to impose constraints on $Z^\prime$ boson masses associated with a variety of 3-3-1 and $E_6$ motivated $Z'$ models. Lower mass bounds for the different models are established at $95\%$ confidence level. Our numerical analysis is extrapolated up to 14~TeV, and further to 30~TeV and 100~TeV, for a broad range of luminosities. Some of our results can be compared with the ATLAS published bounds, being, for those cases, in fairly good agreement. We also report the vector and axial charges for all the 3-3-1-motivated $Z'$ models without exotic electric charges for leptons, known in the literature. To the best of our knowledge most of this charges were not reported before.

Scalar Potential Without Cubic Term in 3-3-1 Models Without Exotic Electric Charges

A detailed study of the criteria for stability of the scalar potential, and the proper electroweak symmetry breaking pattern in some 3-3-1 models without exotic electric charges is presented. In this paper we concentrate in a scalar sector with three Higgs scalar triplets, with a potential that does not include the cubic term, due to the presence of a discrete symmetry. For the analysis we use, and improve, a method previously developed to study the scalar potential in the two-Higgs-doublet extension of the standard model. Our main result is to show the consistency of those 3-3-1 models without exotic electric charges.

Texture Zeros for the Standard Model Quark Mass Matrices

A way of counting free parameters in the quark mass matrices of the standard model, including the constraints coming from weak basis transformations, is presented; this allow to understand the exact physical meaning of the parallel and non-parallel texture zeros which appear in some "ansätz" of the $3\times 3$ quark mass matrices, including the CP violation phenomena in the analysis, it is shown why the six texture zeros are ruled out. Finally, a five texture zeros "ansätze" which properly copes with all experimental constrains, including the angles of the unitary triangle, is presented.

$SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ models with four families

In the context of the local gauge group $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$, we look for possible four family models, where all the particles carry ordinary electric charges. Thirteen different anomaly-free fermion structures emerge, out of which only two are realistic. For the simplest physical structure, we calculate the charged and neutral weak currents and the tree-level Fermion masses. We also look for new sources of flavor changing neutral currents in the quark sector, in connection with the upcoming experimental results at the Large Hadron Collider.

FCNC in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos

Flavor changing neutral currents coming from a new non-universal neutral Gauge-Boson and from the non-unitary quark mixing matrix for the $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ model with right handed neutrinos are studied. By imposing as experimental constraints the measured values of the 3x3 quark mixing matrix, the neutral meson mixing, and the bounds measured values for direct flavor changing neutral current processes, the largest mixing of the known quarks with the exotic ones can be established, with new sources of flavor changing neutral currents being identified. Our main result is that for a $|V_{tb}|$ value smaller than one, large rates of rare top decays such as $t\to cγ$, $t\to cZ$, and $t\to cg$ (where g stands for the gluon field) are obtained; but if $|V_{tb}|\approx 1$ the model can survive present experimental limits only if the mass of the new neutral Gauge Boson becomes larger that 10 TeV.

Flavor changing neutral currents with a fourth family of quarks

For a model with a fourth family of quarks, new sources of flavor changing neutral currents are identified by confronting the unitary 4x4 quark mixing matrix with the experimental measured values of the familiar 3x3 quark mixing matrix. By imposing as experimental constraints the known bounds for the flavor changing neutral currents, the largest mixing of the known quarks with the fourth family ones is established. The predictions are: a value for |V_{tb}| significantly different from unity, large rates for rare top decays as t->cγand t->cZ, the last one reachable at the Large Hadrion Collider, and large rates for rare strange decays s->dγand s->dg, where g stands for the gluon field.

Hierarchical radiative masses in a supersymmetric three-family model without Higgsinos

We study the scalar potential and the mass spectrum of the supersymmetric extension of a three-family model based on the local gauge group $SU(3)_C\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$, with anomalies canceled among the three families in a nontrivial fashion. In this model the slepton multiplets play the role of the Higgs scalars and no Higgsinos are needed, with the consequence that the sneutrino, the selectron and six other sleptons play the role of the Goldstone bosons of the theory. By introducing an Abelian anomaly-free discrete symmetry and aligning the vacuum in a convenient way, we get a consistent mass spectrum for the scalars and for the spin 1/2 quarks and charged leptons, where only the top and charm quarks and the tau lepton acquire tree level masses while the remaining ordinary charged fermions acquire radiative hierarchical masses.

Study of the SU(3)_c X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X model with the minimal scalar sector

A study of the three-family local gauge group SU(3)_c X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X with right-handed neutrinos is carried out. We use the minimal scalar sector able to break the symmetry in a proper way and produce, at the same time, masses for the fermion fields. We embed the structure into a simple gauge group and, by using experimental results from the CERN LEP, SLAC linear collider and atomic parity violation data, we also constraint relevant parameters for the new neutral and charged currents. We discuss the mass spectrum for the gauge boson sector and for the spin 1/2 particles. With the use of discrete symmetries and the introduction of extra scalar fields, a consistent mass spectrum could be constructed.

SU(3)_c X SU(4)_L X U(1)_x model for three families

An extension of the Standard Model to the local gauge group $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(4)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ as a three-family model is presented. The model does not contain exotic electric charges and we obtain a consistent mass spectrum by introducing an anomaly-free discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. The neutral currents coupled to all neutral vector bosons in the model are studied. By using experimental results from the CERN LEP, SLAC Linear Collider and atomic parity violation we constrain the mixing angle between two of the neutral currents in the model and the mass of the additional neutral gauge bosons to be $-0.0032\leq\sinθ\leq 0.0031$ and $0.67 \hbox{TeV}\leq M_{Z_2} \leq 6.1$ TeV at 95% C.L., respectively.

SU(3)_c X SU(4)_L X U(1)_x without exotic electric charges

We present an extension of the Standard Model to the local gauge group $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(4)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ with a family non-universal treatment and anomalies canceled among the three families in a nontrivial fashion. The mass scales, the gauge boson masses, and the masses for the spin 1/2 particles in the model are analyzed. The neutral currents coupled to all neutral vector bosons in the model are studied, and particular values of the parameters are used in order to simplify the mixing between the three neutral currents present in the theory, mixing which is further constrained by experimental results from the CERN LEP, SLAC Linear Collider, and atomic parity violation.

$SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ as an $E_6$ Subgroup

An extension of the Standard Model to the local gauge group $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ which is a subgroup of the electroweak-strong unification group $E_6$ is analyzed. The mass scales, the gauge boson masses, and the masses for the spin 1/2 particles in the model are calculated. The mass differences between the up and down quark sectors, between the quarks and leptons, and between the charged and neutral leptons in one family are explained as a consequence of mixing of ordinary with exotic fermions implied by the model. By using experimental results we constrain the mixing angle between the two neutral currents and the mass of the additional neutral gauge boson to be $-0.0015 \leq \sinθ\leq 0.0048$ and $600 GeV \leq M_{Z_2}$ at 95% CL. The existence of a Dirac neutrino for each family with a mass of the order of the electroweak mass scale is predicted.

How many family-independent, independent U(1)'s, can we gauge?

In the context of SU(3)_c x SU(2)_L x [U(1)]^n, SU(3)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R x [U(1)]^n' and SU(3)_c x SU(3)_L x[U(1)]^n'', we analyze the possible values for n, n' and n''. That is, we look for the number of family-independent, independent abelian hypercharges that can be gauged in each one of those models. We find that n=n'=1 for the minimal fermion content, but n can take any value if we add the right-handed neutrino field to each family in the Standard Model.

SU(3)_c X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X as an SU(6) X U(1)_X subgroup

An extension of the Standard Model to the local gauge group SU(3)_c X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X as a family independent model is presented. The mass scales, the gauge boson masses and the masses for the spin 1/2 particles in the model are studied. The mass differences between the up and down quark sectors, between the quarks and leptons, and between the charged and neutral leptons in one family are analyzed. The existence of two Dirac neutrinos for each family, one light and one very heavy, is predicted. By using experimental results from LEP, SLC and atomic parity violation we constrain the mixing angle between the two neutral currents and the mass of the additoinal neutral gauge boson to be 0.00013 \leq sinθ \leq 0 and 1.5 TeV \leq M_Z2 at 95% CL.

Nonsupersymmetric gauge coupling unfication in [SU(6)]$^4\times$ Z$_4$ and proton stability

We systematically study the three family extension of the Pati-Salam gauge group with an anomaly-free single irreducible representation which contains the known quarks and leptons without mirror fermions. In the context of this model we implement the survival hypothesis, the modified horizontal survival hypothesis, and calculate the tree level masses for the gauge boson and fermion fields. We also use the extended survival hypothesis in order to calculate the mass scales using the renormalization group equation. The interacting Lagrangean with all the known and predicted gauge interactions is explicitly displayed. Finally the stability of the proton in this model is established.

A [SU(6)]$^4$ FLAVOR MODEL WITHOUT MIRROR FERMIONS

We introduce a three family extension of the Pati-Salam model which is anomaly-free and contains in a single irreducible representation the known quarks and leptons without mirror fermions. Assuming that the breaking of the symmetry admits the implementation of the survival hypothesis, we calculate the mass scales using the renormalization group equation. Finally we show that the proton remains perturbatively stable.

Signals of extra gauge bosons and exotic leptons in SU(6)$_{L}\otimes$U(1)$_{Y}$

We study some of the consequences of the SU(6)$_{L}\otimes$U(1)$_{Y}$ model of unification of electroweak interactions and families with a horizontal gauge group SU(2)$_{H}$, paying special attention to processes with flavor changing neutral currents. We compute at tree level the decays $K^{+}\longrightarrow π^{+}μ^{+}e^{-}$, $K_L^0\longrightarrow μ^{+}e^{-}$ and $μ^{-} \longrightarrow e^{-} \bar{ν_e} ν_μ$ from which we obtain lower bounds for the mass of the horizontal gauge boson associated with FCNC. Finally we obtain limits on the mixing between ordinary and exotic charged leptons.
