When Dark Matter Heats Up: A Model-Independent Search for Non-Cold Behavior

This article questions the common assumption of cold dark matter (DM) by exploring the possibility of a non-zero equation of state (EoS) without relying on any parametric approach. In standard cosmological analyses, DM is typically modeled as pressureless dust with wDM=0w_{\rm DM} = 0, an assumption that aligns with large-scale structure formation, supports the empirical success of the ΛΛCDM model, and simplifies cosmological modeling. However, there is no fundamental reason to exclude a non-zero wDMw_{\rm DM} from the cosmological framework. In this work, we explore this possibility through non-parametric and parametric reconstructions based on Gaussian Process Regression. The reconstructions use Hubble parameter measurements from Cosmic Chronometers (CC), the Pantheon+ sample of Type Ia supernovae, and Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) data from DESI DR1 and DR2. Our findings suggest that a dynamical EoS for DM, although only mildly supported statistically, cannot be conclusively ruled out. Notably, we observe a mild tendency (∼1σ\sim 1σ) toward a negative wDMw_{\rm DM} at the present epoch, which is most likely due to inconsistencies between the BAO data from DESI and other datasets.

Constraints from High-Precision Measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Background: The Case of Disintegrating Dark Matter with ΛΛ or Dynamical Dark Energy

In recent years discrepancies have emerged in measurements of the present-day rate of expansion of the universe H0H_0 and in estimates of the clustering of matter S8S_8. Using the most recent cosmological observations we reexamine a novel model proposed to address these tensions, in which cold dark matter disintegrates into dark radiation. The disintegration process is controlled by its rate Q=αHρddmQ = α\mathcal{H} ρ_{\rm ddm}, where αα is a (constant) dimensionless parameter quantifying the strength of the disintegration mechanism and H\mathcal{H} is the conformal Hubble rate in the spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker universe and ρddmρ_{\rm ddm} is the energy density of the disintegrating cold dark matter. We constrain this model with the latest 2018 Planck temperature and polarization data, showing that there is no evidence for α≠0α\neq 0 and that it cannot solve the H0H_0 tension below 3σ3σ, clashing with the result obtained by analyzing the Planck 2015 temperature data. We also investigate two possible extensions of the model in which the dark energy equation-of-state parameter w≠−1w \neq -1. In this case it is possible to combine Planck data with the SH0ES measurement, and we demonstrate that in both these models the H0H_0 tension is resolved at the 1σ1σ level, but the condition w≠−1w \neq -1 exacerbates the S8S_8 tension. We also demonstrate that the addition of intermediate-redshift data (from the Pantheon supernova type Ia dataset and baryon acoustic oscillations) weakens the effectiveness of all these models to address the H0H_0 and S8S_8 tensions.

Cosmology Intertwined: A Review of the Particle Physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology Associated with the Cosmological Tensions and Anomalies

In this paper we will list a few important goals that need to be addressed in the next decade, also taking into account the current discordances between the different cosmological probes, such as the disagreement in the value of the Hubble constant H0H_0, the σ8σ_8--S8S_8 tension, and other less statistically significant anomalies. While these discordances can still be in part the result of systematic errors, their persistence after several years of accurate analysis strongly hints at cracks in the standard cosmological scenario and the necessity for new physics or generalisations beyond the standard model. In this paper, we focus on the 5.0 σ5.0\,σ tension between the {\it Planck} CMB estimate of the Hubble constant H0H_0 and the SH0ES collaboration measurements. After showing the H0H_0 evaluations made from different teams using different methods and geometric calibrations, we list a few interesting new physics models that could alleviate this tension and discuss how the next decade's experiments will be crucial. Moreover, we focus on the tension of the {\it Planck} CMB data with weak lensing measurements and redshift surveys, about the value of the matter energy density ΩmΩ_m, and the amplitude or rate of the growth of structure (σ8,fσ8σ_8,fσ_8). We list a few interesting models proposed for alleviating this tension, and we discuss the importance of trying to fit a full array of data with a single model and not just one parameter at a time. Additionally, we present a wide range of other less discussed anomalies at a statistical significance level lower than the H0H_0--S8S_8 tensions which may also constitute hints towards new physics, and we discuss possible generic theoretical approaches that can collectively explain the non-standard nature of these signals.[Abridged]

Do current observations support transient acceleration of our universe?

In the present article we have investigated a very natural question regarding the dynamics of the universe, namely, the possibility of its decelerating phase immediately after the present accelerating phase. To begin with, we have focused on the matter creation theory which is considered to be a viable alternative to dark energy and modified gravity models. Moreover, we have introduced the cosmographic approach which allows us to express the free parameters of a cosmological model in terms of the known cosmographic parameters. Assuming a generalized matter creation rate we have discussed the theoretical bounds on the model parameters allowing the future deceleration of the universe. Moreover, using the observational bounds on the cosmographic parameters obtained from the low redshifts observational probes, we have also examined the chance of a decelerating phase of the universe. Finally, considering a variety of known cosmological models and parametrizations, we have tested the same possibility. Our analysis shows that the chance of a future decelerating expansion of the universe is highly dependent on the choice of the cosmological models and parametrizations and also on the observational data. Even though the future decelerating expansion is allowed in some cosmological frameworks, but we do not see any strong evidence in favor of this. Perhaps, the future cosmological surveys could offer some more information regarding the fate of the universe.

Minimal dark energy: key to sterile neutrino and Hubble constant tensions?

Minimal dark energy models, described by the same number of free parameters of the standard cosmological model with cold dark matter plus a cosmological constant to parameterize the dark energy component, constitute very appealing scenarios which may solve long-standing, pending tensions. On the one hand, they alleviate significantly the tension between cosmological observations and the presence of one sterile neutrino motivated by the short-baseline anomalies: we obtain a 95%95\% CL cosmological bound on the mass of a fully thermalized fourth sterile neutrino (Neff=4N_{\rm eff}=4) equal to ms<0.65 (1.3)m_s<0.65\ (1.3)~eV within the PEDE (VM) scenarios under consideration. Interestingly, these limits are in agreement with the observations at short-baseline experiments, and the PEDE scenario is favored with respect to the ΛΛCDM case when the full data combination is considered. On the other hand, the Hubble tension is satisfactorily solved in almost all the minimal dark energy schemes explored here. These phenomenological scenarios may therefore shed light on differences arising from near and far universe probes, and also on discrepancies between cosmological and laboratory sterile neutrino searches.

Dynamical dark energy after Planck CMB final release and H0H_0 tension

In this article we compare a variety of well known dynamical dark energy models using the cosmic microwave background measurements from the 2018 Planck legacy and 2015 Planck data releases, the baryon acoustic oscillations measurements and the local measurements of H0H_0 obtained by the SH0ES (Supernovae, H0H_0, for the Equation of State of Dark energy) collaboration analysing the Hubble Space Telescope data. We discuss the alleviation of H0H_0 tension, that is obtained at the price of a phantom-like dark energy equation of state. We perform a Bayesian evidence analysis to quantify the improvement of the fit, finding that all the dark energy models considered in this work are preferred against the ΛΛCDM scenario. Finally, among all the possibilities analyzed, the CPL model is the best one in fitting the data and solving the H0H_0 tension at the same time. However, unfortunately, this dynamical dark energy solution is not supported by the baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) data, and the tension is restored when BAO data are included for all the models.

Emergent Dark Energy, neutrinos and cosmological tensions

The Phenomenologically Emergent Dark Energy model, a dark energy model with the same number of free parameters as the flat ΛΛCDM, has been proposed as a working example of a minimal model which can avoid the current cosmological tensions. A straightforward question is whether or not the inclusion of massive neutrinos and extra relativistic species may spoil such an appealing phenomenological alternative. We present the bounds on MνM_ν and NeffN_{\rm eff} and comment on the long standing H0H_0 and σ8σ_8 tensions within this cosmological framework with a wealth of cosmological observations. Interestingly, we find, at 95%95\% confidence level, and with the most complete set of cosmological observations, Mν∼0.21−0.14+0.15M_ν\sim 0.21^{+0.15}_{-0.14} eV and Neff=3.03±0.32N_{\rm eff}= 3.03\pm 0.32 i.e. an indication for a non-zero neutrino mass with a significance above 2σ2σ. The well known Hubble constant tension is considerably easened, with a significance always below the 2σ2σ level.

All-inclusive interacting dark sector cosmologies

In this paper we explore possible extensions of Interacting Dark Energy cosmologies, where Dark Energy and Dark Matter interact non-gravitationally with one another. In particular, we focus on the neutrino sector, analyzing the effect of both neutrino masses and the effective number of neutrino species. We consider the Planck 2018 legacy release data combined with several other cosmological probes, finding no evidence for new physics in the dark radiation sector. The current neutrino constraints from cosmology should be therefore regarded as robust, as they are not strongly dependent on the dark sector physics, once all the available observations are combined. Namely, we find a total neutrino mass Mν<0.15M_ν<0.15 eV and a number of effective relativistic degrees of freedom of Neff=3.03−0.33+0.33N_{\rm eff}=3.03^{+0.33}_{-0.33}, both at 95\% CL, which are close to those obtained within the ΛΛCDM cosmology, Mν<0.12M_ν<0.12 eV and Neff=3.00−0.35+0.36N_{\rm eff}=3.00^{+0.36}_{-0.35} for the same data combination.

Dark calling Dark: Interaction in the dark sector in presence of neutrino properties after Planck CMB final release

We investigate a well known scenario of interaction in the dark sector where the vacuum energy is interacting with cold dark matter throughout the cosmic evolution in light of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data from final Planck 2018 release. In addition to this minimal scenario, we generalize the model baseline by including the properties of neutrinos, such as the neutrino mass scale (MνM_ν) and the effective number of neutrino species (NeffN_{\rm eff}) as free parameters, in order to verify the possible effects that such parameters might generate on the coupling parameter, and vice versa. As already known, we again confirm that in light of the Planck 2018 data, such dark coupling can successfully solve the H0H_0 tension (with and without the presence of neutrinos). Concerning the properties of neutrinos, we find that MνM_ν may be wider than expected within the ΛΛCDM model and NeffN_{\rm eff} is fully compatible with three neutrino species (similar to ΛΛCDM prevision). The parameters characterizing the properties of neutrinos do not correlate with the coupling parameter of the interaction model. When considering the joint analysis of CMB from Planck 2018 and an estimate of H0H_0 from Hubble Space Telescope 2019 data, {\it we find an evidence for a non-null value of the coupling parameter at more than 3σσ confidence-level.} We also discuss the possible effects on the interacting scenario due to the inclusion of baryon acoustic oscillations data with Planck 2018. Our main results updating the dark sectors' interaction and neutrino properties in the model baseline, represent a new perspective in this direction. Clearly, a possible new physics in light of some dark interaction between dark energy and dark matter can serve as an alternative to ΛΛCDM scenario to explain the observable Universe, mainly in light of the current tension on H0H_0.

Dynamical Dark sectors and Neutrino masses and abundances

We investigate generalized interacting dark matter-dark energy scenarios with a time-dependent coupling parameter, allowing also for freedom in the neutrino sector. The models are tested in the phantom and quintessence regimes, characterized by an equation of state wx<−1w_x<-1 and wx>−1w_x>-1, respectively. Our analyses show that for some of the scenarios the existing tensions on the Hubble constant H0H_0 and on the clustering parameter S8S_8 can be significantly alleviated. The relief is either due to \textit{(a)} a dark energy component which lies within the phantom region; or \textit{(b)} the presence of a dynamical coupling in quintessence scenarios. The inclusion of massive neutrinos into the interaction schemes does not affect neither the constraints on the cosmological parameters nor the bounds on the total number or relativistic degrees of freedom NeffN_{\rm eff}, which are found to be extremely robust and, in general, strongly consistent with the canonical prediction Neff=3.045N_{\rm eff}=3.045. The most stringent bound on the total neutrino mass MνM_ν is Mν<0.116M_ν<0.116 eV and it is obtained within a quintessence scenario in which the matter mass-energy density is only mildly affected by the presence of a dynamical dark sector coupling.

Field theoretic interpretations of interacting dark energy scenarios and recent observations

Cosmological models describing the non-gravitational interaction between dark matter and dark energy are based on some phenomenological choices of the interaction rates between dark matter and dark energy. There is no such guiding rule to select such rates of interaction. {\it In the present work we show that various phenomenological models of the interaction rates might have a strong field theoretical ground.} We explicitly derive several well known interaction functions between dark matter and dark energy under some special conditions and finally constrain them using the latest cosmic microwave background observations from final Planck legacy release together with baryon acoustic oscillations distance measurements. Our analyses report that one of the interacting functions is able to alleviate the H0H_0 tension. We also perform a Bayesian evidence analyses for all the models with reference to the ΛΛCDM model. From the Bayesian evidence analyses, although the reference scenario is preferred over the interacting scenarios, however, we found that two interacting models are close to the reference ΛΛCDM model.

Forecast constraints on Anisotropic Stress in Dark Energy using gravitational-waves

It is always interesting to investigate how well can a future experiment perform with respect to others (present or future ones). Cosmology is really an exciting field where a lot of puzzles are still unknown. In this article we consider a generalized dark energy (DE) scenario where anisotropic stress is present. We constrain this generalized cosmic scenario with an aim to investigate how gravitational waves standard sirens (GWSS) may constrain the anisotropic stress, which according to the standard cosmological probes, remains unconstrained. In order to do this, we generate the luminosity distance measurements from O(103)\mathcal{O} (10^3) mock GW events which match the expected sensitivity of the Einstein Telescope. Our analyses report that, first of all, GWSS can give better constraints on various cosmological parameters compared to the usual cosmological probes, but the viscous sound speed appearing due to the dark energy anisotropic stress, is totally unconstrained even after the inclusion of GWSS.

Forecasting Interacting Vacuum-Energy Models using Gravitational Waves

The physics of the dark sector has remained one of the controversial areas of modern cosmology at present and hence it naturally attracts massive attention to the scientific community. With the developments of the astronomical data, the physics of the dark sector is becoming much more transparent than it was some twenty years back. The detection of gravitational waves (GWs) has now opened a cluster of possibilities in the cosmological regime. Being motivated by the detection of GWs and its possible impact on the physics of dark matter and dark energy, in this work we focus on the interacting dark energy models. Assuming the simplest possibility in which the vacuum energy with equation-of-state wx=−1w_x =-1 is allowed to interact with the pressureless dark matter, we have extracted the constraints of the cosmological parameters. We find that the addition of the GWs data to the CMB measurements significantly improves up to a factor 4 of the parameters space, and up to a factor 2 for the full combination of current cosmological datasets, namely CMB+BAO+Pantheon+RSD+R16+CC+WL. The most affected parameters by the inclusion of the GWs are Ωch2Ω_ch^2, θMCθ_{MC}, ξξ, and the derived parameters Ωm0Ω_{m0}, σ8σ_8 and H0H_0.

Imprints of an extended Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization on the large scale of our universe

In the present work we perform a systematic analysis of a new dark energy parametrization and its various corrections at first and higher orders around the presence epoch z=0z=0, where the first order correction of this dark energy parametrization recovers the known Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model. We have considered up to the third order corrections of this parametrization and investigate the models at the level of background and perturbations. The models have been constrained using the latest astronomical datasets from a series of potential astronomical data, such as the cosmic microwave background observations, baryon acoustic oscillations measurements, recent Pantheon sample of the supernova type Ia and the Hubble parameter measurements. From the analyses we found that all parametrization favor the quintessential character of the dark energy equation of state where the phantom crossing is marginally allowed (within 68\% CL). Finally, we perform the Bayesian analysis using \texttt{MCEvidence} to quantify the statistical deviations of the parametrizations compared to the standard ΛΛCDM cosmology. The Bayesian analysis reports that ΛΛCDM is favored over all the DE parametrizations.

Interacting Dark Energy in a closed universe

Recent measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Anisotropies power spectra measured by the Planck satellite show a preference for a closed universe at more than 99%99 \% Confidence Level. Such a scenario is however in disagreement with several low redshift observables, including luminosity distances of Type Ia Supernovae. Here we show that Interacting Dark Energy (IDE) models can ease the discrepancies between Planck and Supernovae Ia data in a closed Universe. Therefore IDE cosmologies remain as very appealing scenarios, as they can provide the solution to a number of observational tensions in different fiducial cosmologies. The results presented here strongly favour broader analyses of cosmological data, and suggest that relaxing the usual flatness and vacuum energy assumptions can lead to a much better agreement among theory and observations.

Metastable dark energy models in light of Planck 2018: Alleviating the H0H_0 tension

We investigate the recently introduced metastable dark energy (DE) models after the final Planck 2018 legacy release. The essence of the present work is to analyze their evolution at the level of perturbations. Our analyses show that both the metastable dark energy models considered in this article, are excellent candidates to alleviate the H0H_0 tension. In particular, for the present models, Planck 2018 alone can alleviate the H0H_0 tension within 68\% CL. Along with the final cosmic microwave background data from the Planck 2018 legacy release, we also include external cosmological datasets in order to asses the robustness of our findings.

Modified Emergent Dark Energy and its Astronomical Constraints

We introduce a modified form of the Phenomenologically Emergent Dark Energy (PEDE) model by showing a very elegant approach. The model is named as Modified Emergent Dark Energy (MEDE) to distinguish from PEDE model and it includes ΛΛCDM, PEDE model, Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model and other cosmological models of interest. We show that the present article offers a very fantastic route to construct other PEDE models in a simple but very elegant way. The model has seven free parameters where the six parameters are the same as in ΛΛCDM or PEDE model and the remaining one parameter `αα' quantifies the generalization. The present model predicts that dark energy equation of state at present assumes, wDE  (z=0)=−1−α3ln⁡(10)w_{\rm DE}\; (z=0) = -1 - \fracα{3 \ln (10)} and in the far future (i.e., for z⟶−1z \longrightarrow -1), it will evolve asymptotically to wDE⟶−1w_{\rm DE} \longrightarrow -1. We perform a very robust observational analysis of the model using various observational datasets including cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillations distance measurements, a local value of the Hubble constant and the pantheon sample of Supernovae Type Ia. We find that the H0H_0 tension here is alleviated but not solved, while the only free parameter, αα could recover the ΛΛCDM or PEDE for different datasets. In summary, the present article describes a novel route to construct other modified versions of the PEDE model in a very simplified manner.

Nonlinear interacting cosmological models after Planck 2018 legacy release and the H0H_0 tension

Interacting dark energy models are widely renowned for giving an explanation to the cosmic coincidence problem as well as several observational issues. According to the recent observational data, and so far we are concerned with the literature, the choice of the interaction function between dark matter and dark energy is always questionable since there is no such underlying theory that could derive it. Thus, in this work we have raised this issue by proposing two new nonlinear interaction functions and constrain them using cosmic microwave background (CMB) from Planck 2018, baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), dark energy survey and a measurement of the Hubble constant H0H_0 from Hubble Space Telescope (HST) 2019. The dark energy equation of state is considered to be constant throughout the work and the geometry of the universe is assumed to be homogeneous and isotropic with zero spatial curvature. Our analyses report that a non-zero interaction is always allowed by the observational data and the dark energy equation of state is bent towards the phantom regime. In particular, when H0H_0 from HST is added to Planck 2018+BAO, we find an evidence for a non-zero coupling at more than 2σ2σ confidence level. Our analyses also report that for both the models, H0H_0 is close to its local measurements and thus alleviating the H0H_0 tension. In particular, one of the interacting models perfectly solves the H0H_0 tension.

Reconciling H0H_0 tension in a six parameter space?

Consistent observations indicate that some of the important cosmological parameters measured through the local observations are in huge tension with their measurements from the global observations (within the minimal ΛΛCDM cosmology). The tensions in those cosmological parameters have been found to be either weakened or reconciled with the introduction of new degrees of freedom that effectively increases the underlying parameter space compared to the minimal ΛΛCDM cosmology. It might be interesting to investigate the above tensions within the context of an emergent dark energy scenario proposed recently by Li and Shafieloo~\cite{Li:2019yem}. We find that the tension on H0H_0 is clearly alleviated within 68\% confidence level with an improvement of the χ2χ^2 for CMB, for the above emergent dark energy model having only six free parameters similar to the spatially flat ΛΛCDM model. The tension on H0H_0 is still alleviated for every combined datasets considered in the work, however, such alleviation occurs by worsening the χ2χ^2 compared to the χ2χ^2 for ΛΛCDM model obtained for the same combined dataset.

Understanding the phenomenology of interacting dark energy scenarios and their theoretical bounds

Non-gravitational interaction between dark matter and dark energy has been considered in a spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe. The interaction rate is assumed to be linear in the energy densities of dark matter and dark energy and it is also proportional to the Hubble rate of the FLRW universe. This kind of interaction model leads to an autonomous linear dynamical system, and depending on the coupling parameters, could be solved analytically by calculating the exponential of the matrix, defining the system. We show here that such interaction rate has a very deep connection with some well known cosmological theories. We then investigate the theoretical bounds on the coupling parameters of the interaction rate in order that the energy densities of the dark sector remain positive throughout the evolution of the universe and asymptotically converge to zero at very late times. Our analyses also point out that such linear interacting model may encounter with finite time future singularities depending on the coupling parameters as well as the dark energy state parameter.

Dynamics of nonlinear interacting dark energy models

We investigate the cosmological dynamics of interacting dark energy models in which the interaction function is a nonlinear in terms of the energy densities. Considering explicitly the interaction between a pressureless dark matter and a scalar field, minimally coupled to Einstein gravity, we explore the dynamics of the spatially flat FLRW universe for the exponential potential of the scalar field.. We perform the stability analysis for the three nonlinear interaction models of our consideration through the analysis of critical points and we investigate the cosmological parameters and we discuss the physical behaviour at the critical points. From the analysis of the critical points we find a number of possibilities that include the stable late time accelerated solution, wwCDM-like solution, radiation-like solution and moreover the unstable inflationary solution as well.

Cosmic constraint on massive neutrinos in viable f(R) gravity with producing LCDM background expansion

Tensions between several cosmic observations were found recently, such as the inconsistent values of H0H_{0} (or σ8σ_{8}) were indicated by the different cosmic observations. Introducing the massive neutrinos in ΛΛCDM could potentially solve the tensions. Viable f(R)f(R) gravity producing ΛΛCDM background expansion with massive neutrinos is investigated in this paper. We fit the current observational data: Planck-2015 CMB, RSD, BAO and SNIa to constrain the mass of neutrinos in viable f(R)f(R) theory. The constraint results at 95\% confidence level are: Σmν<0.202Σm_ν<0.202 eV for the active neutrino case, mν,sterileeff<0.757m_{ν, sterile}^{eff}<0.757 eV with Neff<3.22N_{eff}<3.22 for the sterile neutrino case. For the effects by the mass of neutrinos, the constraint results on model parameter at 95\% confidence level become fR0×10−6>−1.89f_{R0}\times 10^{-6}> -1.89 and fR0×10−6>−2.02f_{R0}\times 10^{-6}> -2.02 for two cases, respectively. It is also shown that the fitting values of several parameters much depend on the neutrino properties, such as the cold dark matter density, the cosmological quantities at matter-radiation equality, the neutrino density and the fraction of baryonic mass in helium. At last, the constraint result shows that the tension between direct and CMB measurements of H0H_0 gets slightly weaker in the viable f(R)f(R) model than that in the base ΛΛCDM model.

Cosmological constraints on coupled dark energy

The coupled dark energy model provides a possible approach to mitigate the coincidence problem of cosmological standard model. Here, the coupling term is assumed as Qˉ=3Hξxρˉx\bar{Q}=3Hξ_x\barρ_x, which is related to the interaction rate and energy density of dark energy. We derive the background and perturbation evolution equations for several coupled models. Then, we test these models by currently available cosmic observations which include cosmic microwave background radiation from Planck 2015, baryon acoustic oscillation, type Ia supernovae, fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) data points from redshift-space distortions, and weak gravitational lensing. The constraint results tell us there is no evidence of interaction at 2σσ level, it is very hard to distinguish different coupled models from other ones.

Constraints on the dark matter equation of state with redshift-space distortion

In this paper, we study a model which is composed by the cosmological constant and dark matter with nonzero equation of state parameter, which could be called as ΛΛwDM. In the synchronous gauge, we obtain the perturbation equations of dark matter, and deduce the evolution equations of growth factor about the dark matter and baryons. Based on the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we constrain this model by the recently available cosmic observations which include cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillation, type Ia supernovae, and fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) data points from redshift-space distortion. The results present a tighter constraint on the model than the case without fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) data. In 3σσ regions, we find the dark matter equation of state parameter wdmw_{dm}=0.000111−0.000701−0.00137−0.00180+0.000688+0.00136+0.001810.000111_{- 0.000701-0.00137-0.00180}^{+0.000688+0.00136+0.00181}. After an extra model parameter wdmw_{dm} is considered, the difference between the minimum values of χ2χ^2 of our model and standard model is Δχmin2=0.598Δχ^2_{min}=0.598. Although the currently available cosmic observations mildly favor the nonzero dark matter equation of state parameter, no significant deviation from the ΛΛCDM model is found in 1σσ region.

Constraints on a decomposed dark fluid with constant adiabatic sound speed by jointing the geometry test and growth rate after Planck data

In this paper, a unified dark fluid with constant adiabatic sound speed is decomposed into cold dark matter interacting with vacuum energy. Based on Markov chain Monte Carlo method, we constrain this model by jointing the geometry and dynamical measurement. The geometry test includes cosmic microwave background radiation from \textit{Planck}, baryon acoustic oscillation, and type Ia supernovae; the dynamic measurement is fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) data points which is obtained from the growth rate via redshift-space distortion, and σ8(z)σ_8(z) is the root-mean-square amplitude of the density contrast δδ at the comoving 8h−18h^{-1} Mpc scale. The jointed constraint shows that αα = 0.000662−0.000662+0.000173 0.000662_{- 0.000662}^{+ 0.000173} and σ8σ_8 = 0.824−0.0166+0.0128 0.824_{- 0.0166}^{+ 0.0128}. The CMB and matter power spectra are both similar for the case of α=α= mean value and that of α=0α=0. However, the evolutionary curves of fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) are different. This means that, to some extent, the data points of the growth rate could break the degeneracy of the dark energy models.

Cosmological constraints on interacting dark energy with redshift-space distortion after Planck data

The interacting dark energy model could propose a effective way to avoid the coincidence problem. In this paper, dark energy is taken as a fluid with a constant equation of state parameter wxw_x. In a general gauge, we could obtain two sets of different perturbation equations when the momentum transfer potential is vanished in the rest frame of dark matter or dark energy. There are many kinds of interacting forms from the phenomenological considerations, here, we choose Q=3HξxρxQ=3Hξ_xρ_x which owns the stable perturbations in most cases. Then, according to the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we constrain the model by currently available cosmic observations which include cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillation, type Ia supernovae, and fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) data points from redshift-space distortion. Jointing the geometry tests with the large scale structure information, the results show a tighter constraint on the interacting model than the case without fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) data. We find the interaction rate in 3σσ regions: ξx=0.00372−0.00372−0.00372−0.00372+0.000768+0.00655+0.0102ξ_x=0.00372_{-0.00372- 0.00372-0.00372}^{+0.000768+0.00655+0.0102}. It means that the recently cosmic observations favor a small interaction rate between the dark sectors, at the same time, the measurement of redshift-space distortion could rule out a large interaction rate in the 1σσ region.

Coupled dark energy with perturbed Hubble expansion rate

The coupling between dark sectors provides a possible approach to mitigate the coincidence problem of cosmological standard model. In this paper, dark energy is treated as a fluid with a constant equation of state, whose coupling with dark matter is proportional the Hubble parameter and energy density of dark energy, that is, Qˉ=3ξxHˉρˉx\bar{Q}=3ξ_x\bar{H}\barρ_x. Particularly, we consider the Hubble expansion rate to be perturbed in the perturbation evolutions of dark sectors. Using jointing data sets which include cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillation, type Ia supernovae, and redshift-space distortions, we perform a full Monte Carlo Markov Chain likelihood analysis for the coupled model. The results show that the mean value with errors of interaction rate is: ξx=0.00305−0.00305−0.00305−0.00305+0.000645+0.00511+0.00854ξ_x=0.00305_{-0.00305-0.00305-0.00305}^{+0.000645+0.00511+0.00854} for QAμ∥ucμQ^μ_A\parallel u^μ_c; ξx=0.00317−0.00317−0.00317−0.00317+0.000628+0.00547+0.00929ξ_x=0.00317_{-0.00317-0.00317-0.00317}^{+0.000628+0.00547+0.00929} for QAμ∥uxμQ^μ_A\parallel u^μ_x, which means that the recently cosmic observations favored small interaction rate which is up to the order of 10−310^{-3}. Moreover, in contrast to the coupled model with unperturbed expansion rate, we find perturbed Hubble expansion rate could bring about negligible impact on the model parameter space.

Reconciling the Tension Between Planck and BICEP2 Through Early Dark Energy

We show the possibility that the observational results of the primordial gravitational waves from Planck and BICEP2 for the tensor-to-scalar ratio rr can be reconciled when an early dark energy was included. This early dark energy behaves like a radiation component at very early epoch. This is equivalent to induce additional number of effective neutrino species: ΔNeff=[78(411)4/3]−1ρde(a)/ργ(a)ΔN_{eff}=[\frac{7}{8}(\frac{4}{11})^{4/3}]^{-1}ρ_{de}(a)/ρ_γ(a), where ργ(a)ρ_γ(a) is the photon energy density and the numerical factors arise from converting to effective neutrino species. And ρde(a)ρ_{de}(a) is the energy density of early dark energy. Combining the Planck temperature data, the WMAP9 polarization data, and the baryon acoustic oscillation data with and without BICEP2 data, we find that in this early dark energy model the tension between the observations from Planck and BICEP2 was relived at 2σ2σ regions. But it cannot be removed completely due to the small ratio of early dark energy constrained by the other cosmic observations. As a byproduct, the tension between observed values of Hubble parameter from Planck and the direct measurement of the Hubble constant was removed in this early dark energy model.

Testing coupled dark energy with large scale structure observation

The coupling between the dark components provides a new approach to mitigate the coincidence problem of cosmological standard model. In this paper, dark energy is treated as a fluid with a constant equation of state, whose coupling with dark matter is Qˉ=3Hξxρˉx\bar{Q}=3Hξ_x\barρ_x. In the frame of dark energy, we derive the evolution equations for the density and velocity perturbations. According to the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we constrain the model by currently available cosmic observations which include cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillation, type Ia supernovae, and fσ8(z)fσ_8(z) data points from redshift-space distortion. The results show the interaction rate in 3σσ regions: ξx=0.00328−0.00328−0.00328−0.00328+0.000736+0.00549+0.00816ξ_x=0.00328_{-0.00328-0.00328-0.00328}^{+0.000736+0.00549+0.00816}, which means that the recently cosmic observations favor a small interaction rate which is up to the order of 10−210^{-2}, meanwhile, the measurement of redshift-space distortion could rule out the large interaction rate in the 1σσ region.

Reconstruction of new holographic scalar field models of dark energy in Brans-Dicke Universe

Motivated by the work [K. Karami, J. Fehri, {\it Phys. Lett. B} {\bf 684}, 61 (2010)] and [A. Sheykhi, {\it Phys. Lett. B} {\bf 681}, 205 (2009)], we generalize their work to the new holographic dark energy model with ρD=3ϕ24ω(μH2+νH˙)ρ_D=\frac{3ϕ^2}{4ω}(μH^2+ν\dot{H}) in the framework of Brans-Dicke cosmology. Concretely, we study the correspondence between the quintessence, tachyon, K-essence, dilaton scalar field and Chaplygin gas model with the new holographic dark energy model in the non-flat Brans-Dicke universe. Furthermore, we reconstruct the potentials and dynamics for these models. By analysis we can show that for new holographic quintessence and Chaplygin gas models, if the related parameters to the potentials satisfy some constraints, the accelerated expansion can be achieved in Brans-Dicke cosmology. Especially the counterparts of fields and potentials in general relativity can describe accelerated expansion of the universe. It is worth stressing that not only can we give some new results in the framework of Brans-Dicke cosmology, but also the previous results of the new holographic dark energy in Einstein gravity can be included as special cases given by us.

Unified dark fluid with fast transition: including entropic perturbations

In this paper, we investigate a unified dark fluid model with fast transition and entropic perturbations. An effective sound speed is designated as an additional free model parameter when the entropic perturbations are included, and if the entropic perturbations are zero, the effective sound speed will decrease to the adiabatic sound speed. In order to analyze the viability of the unified model, we calculate the squared Jeans wave number with the entropic perturbations. Furthermore, by using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we perform a global fitting for the unified dark fluid model from the type Ia supernova Union 2.1, baryon acoustic oscillation and the full information of cosmic microwave background measurement given by the WMAP 7-yr data points. The constrained results favor a small effective sound speed. Compared to the ΛΛCDM, it is found that the cosmic observations do not favor the phenomenon of fast transition for the unified dark fluid model.
