Unitary Friedberg-Jacquet periods

The main goal of this paper is to study the unitary Friedberg-Jacquet period through their connection with the unitary Shalika period. Locally we study the multiplicity of unitary Friedberg-Jacquet periods for discrete series. Globally we prove one direction of a conjecture of Xiao-Zhang, stating that the non-vanishing of a global unitary Friedberg-Jacquet period implies the non-vanishing of the central value of the (twisted) standard L-function.

Relative character identities and theta correspondence

In this paper, we will determine the factorization of global period attached to the spherical variety $X:=\mathrm{SO}(n-1)\backslash \mathrm{SO}(n)$, which is a special case of the Sakellaridis-Venkatesh conjecture. The main idea is to build a connection between the periods of $X$ and the periods of the Whittaker case $N,ψ\backslash \mathrm{SL}_2$ (n even) or $N,ψ\backslash \mathrm{Mp}_2$ (n odd) using the tool of theta correspondence. In the local setting, we determine the Plancherel formula of $L^2(X)$, the relative character identities and give an explicite integral formula of transfer between $X$-side and Whittaker-side which coincides with the theory of transfer developed by Sakellaridis.

An exceptional Siegel-Weil formula and poles of the Spin L-function of $PGSp_6$

We show a Siegel-Weil formula in the setting of exceptional theta correspondence. Using this, together with a new Rankin-Selberg integral for the Spin L-function of $PGSp_6$ discovered by A. Pollack, we prove that a cuspidal representation of $PGSp_6$ is a (weak) functorial lift from the exceptional group $G_2$ if its (partial) Spin L-function has a pole at $s=1$.

Globalization of supercuspidal representations over function fields and applications

Let H be a connected reductive group defined over a non-archimedean local field F of characteristic p>0. Using Poincaré series, we globalize supercuspidal representations of H(F) in such a way that we have control over ramification at all other places, and such that the notion of distinction with respect to a unipotent subgroup (indeed more general subgroups) is preserved. In combination with the work of Vincent Lafforgue on the global Langlands correspondence, we present some applications, such as the stability of Langlands-Shahidi γ-factors and the local Langlands correspondence for classical groups.

The Gross-Prasad conjecture and local theta correspondence

We establish the Fourier-Jacobi case of the local Gross-Prasad conjecture for unitary groups, by using local theta correspondence to relate the Fourier-Jacobi case with the Bessel case established by Beuzart-Plessis. To achieve this, we prove two conjectures of D. Prasad on the precise description of the local theta correspondence for (almost) equal rank unitary dual pairs in terms of the local Langlands correspondence.

The Langlands-Weissman Program for Brylinski-Deligne extensions

We describe an evolving and conjectural extension of the Langlands program for a class of nonlinear covering groups of algebraic origin studied by Brylinski-Deligne. In particular, we describe the construction of an L-group extension of such a covering group (over a split reductive group) due to Weissman, study some of its properties and discuss a variant of it. Using this L-group extension, we describe a local Langlands correspondence for covering (split) tori and unramified genuine representations, using work of Savin, McNamara, Weissman and W.W. Li. Finally, we define the notion of automorphic (partial) L-functions attached to genuine automorphic representations of the BD covering groups.

Twisted Bhargava Cubes

Let G be a reductive group and P=MN a maximal parabolic subgroup. The group M acts, by conjugation, on N/[N,N]. It is well known that, over an algebraically closed field, the group M acts transitively on a Zariski open set. However, over a general field, the structure of orbits may be quite non-trivial. A description may involve unexpected invariants. A notable example is when G is a split, simply connected group of type D_4, and P is the maximal parabolic corresponding to the branching point of the Dynkin diagram. The space N/[N,N] is also known as the Bhargava cube, and it was the starting point of his investigations of prehomogeneous spaces. We consider a version of this problem for the triality D_4.

Arithmeticity for periods of automorphic forms

A cuspidal automorphic representation πof a group G is said to to be distinguished with respect to a subgroup H if the integral of f along H is nonzero for a cusp form f in the space of π. Such period integrals are related to (non)vanishing of interesting L-values and also to Langlands functoriality. This article discusses a general principle, labelled arithmeticity, which roughly states that "πis H-distinguished if and only if any Galois conjugate of πis H-distinguished." We study this principle via several examples; starting with GL(2) and leading up to more complicated situations where the ambient group is a higher GL(n) or a classical group.

A Conjecture of Sakellaridis-Venkatesh on the Unitary Spectrum of Spherical Varieties

In a recent preprint, Sakellaridis and Venkatesh considered the spectral decomposition of the space $L^2(X)$, where $X = H\G$ is a spherical variety and $G$ is a real or $p$-adic group, and stated a conjecture describing this decomposition in terms of a dual group $\check{G}_X$ associated to $X$. The main purpose of this paper is to verify the above conjecture in many cases when $X$, has low rank. In particular, we demonstrate this conjecture for many cases when $X$ has rank 1, and also some cases when $X$ has rank 2 or 3.
