Discriminating between SUSY and Non-SUSY Higgs Sectors through the Ratio $H \to b \bar b / H \to τ^+ τ^-$ with a 125 GeV Higgs boson

It is still an open question whether the new scalar particle discovered at the LHC with a mass of 125 GeV is the SM Higgs boson or it belongs to models of new physics with an extended Higgs sector, as the MSSM or 2HDM. The ratio of branching fractions $R$ = BR($H \to b \bar b$)/BR($H \to τ^+ τ^-$) of Higgs boson decays is a powerful tool in order to distinguish the MSSM Higgs sector from the SM or non-supersymmetric 2HDM. This ratio receives large renormalization-scheme independent radiative corrections in supersymmetric models at large $\tanβ$, which are insensitive to the SUSY mass scale and absent in the SM or 2HDM. Making use of the current LHC data and the upcoming new results on Higgs couplings to be reported by ATLAS and CMS collaborations and in a future linear collider, we develop a detailed and updated study of this ratio $R$ which improves previous analyses and sets the level of accuracy needed to discriminate between models.

Electroweak corrections to $Z$-boson hadroproduction at finite transverse momentum

We calculate the full one-loop electroweak radiative corrections, of ${\cal O}(α^2α_s)$, to the cross section of single $Z$-boson inclusive hadroproduction at finite transverse momentum ($p_T$). This includes the ${\cal O}(α)$ corrections to $Z+j$ production, the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ corrections to $Z+γ$ production, and certain QCD-electroweak interference contributions involving a single quark trace. We recover the QCD and purely weak corrections and study the QED corrections and the QCD-electroweak interference contributions for the first time. We also consider direct and resolved photoproduction in elastic and inelastic scattering. We present $p_T$ and rapidity distributions for the experimental conditions at the Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN LHC and assess the significance of the various contributions.

Renormalization scheme dependence of the two-loop QCD corrections to the neutral Higgs-boson masses in the MSSM

Reaching a theoretical accuracy in the prediction of the lightest MSSM Higgs-boson mass, M_h, at the level of the current experimental precision requires the inclusion of momentum-dependent contributions at the two-loop level. Recently two groups presented the two-loop QCD momentum-dependent corrections to Mh [1,2], using a hybrid on-shell--DRbar scheme, with apparently different results. We show that the differences can be traced back to a different renormalization of the top-quark mass, and that the claim in [2] of an inconsistency in [1] is incorrect. We furthermore compare consistently the results for M_h obtained with the top-quark mass renormalized on-shell and DRbar. The latter calculation has been added to the FeynHiggs package and can be used to estimate missing higher-order corrections beyond the two-loop level.

Momentum-dependent two-loop QCD corrections to the neutral Higgs-boson masses in the MSSM

Results are presented for the momentum dependent two-loop contributions of O(alpha_t alpha_s) to the masses and mixing effects in the Higgs sector of the MSSM. They are obtained in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach using a mixed on-shell/DRbar renormalization that can directly be matched onto the higher-order corrections included in the code FeynHiggs. The new two-loop diagrams are evaluated with the program SecDec. The combination of the new momentum dependent two-loop contribution with the existing one- and two-loop corrections in the on-shell/DRbar scheme leads to an improved prediction of the light MSSM Higgs boson mass and a correspondingly reduced theoretical uncertainty. We find that the corresponding shifts in the lightest Higgs-boson mass M_h are below 1 GeV in all scenarios considered, but can extend up to the level of the current experimental uncertainty. The results are included in the code FeynHiggs.

Prediction of the light CP-even Higgs-Boson Mass of the MSSM: Towards the ILC Precision

The signal discovered in the Higgs searches at the LHC can be interpreted as the Higgs boson of the Standard Model as well as the light CP-even Higgs boson of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In this context the measured mass value, having already reached the level of a precision observable with an experimental accuracy of about 500 MeV, plays an important role. This precision can be improved substantially below the level of about 50 MeV at the future International Linear Collider (ILC). Within the MSSM the mass of the light CP-even Higgs boson, M_h, can directly be predicted from the other parameters of the model. The accuracy of this prediction should match the one of the experimental measurements. The relatively high experimentally observed value of the mass of about 125.6 GeV has led to many investigations where the supersymmetric (SUSY) partners of the top quark have masses in the multi-TeV range. We review the recent improvements for the prediction for M_h in the MSSM for large scalar top masses. They were obtained by combining the existing fixed-order result, comprising the full one-loop and leading and subleading two-loop corrections, with a resummation of the leading and subleading logarithmic contributions from the scalar top sector to all orders. In this way for the first time a high-precision prediction for the mass of the light CP-even Higgs boson in the MSSM is possible all the way up to the multi-TeV region of the relevant supersymmetric particles. However, substantial further improvements will be needed to reach the ILC precision. The newly obtained corrections to M_h are included into the code FeynHiggs.

High-precision predictions for the light CP-even Higgs Boson Mass of the MSSM

For the interpretation of the signal discovered in the Higgs searches at the LHC it will be crucial in particular to discriminate between the minimal Higgs sector realised in the Standard Model (SM) and its most commonly studied extension, the Minimal Supersymmetric SM (MSSM). The measured mass value, having already reached the level of a precision observable with an experimental accuracy of about 500 MeV, plays an important role in this context. In the MSSM the mass of the light CP-even Higgs boson, M_h, can directly be predicted from the other parameters of the model. The accuracy of this prediction should at least match the one of the experimental result. The relatively high mass value of about 126 GeV has led to many investigations where the scalar top quarks are in the multi-TeV range. We improve the prediction for M_h in the MSSM by combining the existing fixed-order result, comprising the full one-loop and leading and subleading two-loop corrections, with a resummation of the leading and subleading logarithmic contributions from the scalar top sector to all orders. In this way for the first time a high-precision prediction for the mass of the light CP-even Higgs boson in the MSSM is possible all the way up to the multi-TeV region of the relevant supersymmetric particles. The results are included in the code FeynHiggs.

Implications of Improved Higgs Mass Calculations for Supersymmetric Models

We discuss the allowed parameter spaces of supersymmetric scenarios in light of improved Higgs mass predictions provided by FeynHiggs 2.10.0. The Higgs mass predictions combine Feynman-diagrammatic results with a resummation of leading and subleading logarithmic corrections from the stop/top sector, which yield a significant improvement in the region of large stop masses. Scans in the pMSSM parameter space show that, for given values of the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters, the new logarithmic contributions beyond the two-loop order implemented in FeynHiggs tend to give larger values of the light CP-even Higgs mass, M_h, in the region of large stop masses than previous predictions that were based on a fixed-order Feynman-diagrammatic result, though the differences are generally consistent with the previous estimates of theoretical uncertainties. We re-analyze the parameter spaces of the CMSSM, NUHM1 and NUHM2, taking into account also the constraints from CMS and LHCb measurements of B_s to μ+μ- and ATLAS searches for MET events using 20/fb of LHC data at 8 TeV. Within the CMSSM, the Higgs mass constraint disfavours tan beta lesssim 10, though not in the NUHM1 or NUHM2.

Implications of LHC search results on the W boson mass prediction in the MSSM

We present the currently most precise W boson mass (M_W) prediction in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and discuss how it is affected by recent results from the LHC. The evaluation includes the full one-loop result and all known higher order corrections of SM and SUSY type. We show the MSSM prediction in the M_W-m_t plane, taking into account constraints from Higgs and SUSY searches. We point out that even if stops and sbottoms are heavy, relatively large SUSY contributions to M_W are possible if either charginos, neutralinos or sleptons are light. In particular we analyze the effect on the M_W prediction of the Higgs signal at about 125.6 GeV, which within the MSSM can in principle be interpreted as the light or the heavy CP-even Higgs boson. For both interpretations the predicted MSSM region for M_W is in good agreement with the experimental measurement. We furthermore discuss the impact of possible future LHC results in the stop sector on the M_W prediction, considering both the cases of improved limits and of the detection of a scalar top quark.

The Charged Higgs Boson Mass of the MSSM in the Feynman-Diagrammatic Approach

The interpretation of the Higgs signal at \sim 126 GeV within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) depends crucially on the predicted properties of the other Higgs states of the model, as the mass of the charged Higgs boson, MH+-. This mass is calculated in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach within the MSSM with real parameters. The result includes the complete one-loop contributions and the two-loop contributions of O(alpha_t alpha_s). The one-loop contributions lead to sizable shifts in the MH+- prediction, reaching up to \sim 8 GeV for relatively small values of M_A. Even larger effects can occur depending on the sign and size of the mu parameter that enters the corrections affecting the relation between the bottom-quark mass and the bottom Yukawa coupling. The two-loop O(alpha_t alpha_s) terms can shift MH+- by more than 2 GeV. The two-loop contributions amount to typically about 30% of the one-loop corrections for the examples that we have studied. These effects can be relevant for precision analyses of the charged MSSM Higgs boson.

The Higgs - photon - Z boson coupling revisited

We analyze the coupling of CP-even and CP-odd Higgs bosons to a photon and a Z boson in extensions of the Standard Model. In particular, we study in detail the effect of charged Higgs bosons in two-Higgs doublet models, and the contribution of SUSY particle loops in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. The Higgs-$γZ$ coupling can be measured in the decay $Z \to γ$+Higgs at $e^+e^-$ colliders running on the Z resonance, or in the reverse process Higgs $\to Z γ$ with the Higgs boson produced at LHC. We show that a measurement of this coupling with a precision at the percent level, which could be the case at future $e^+e^-$ colliders, would allow to distinguish between the lightest SUSY and standard Higgs bosons in large areas of the parameter space.

Quantum field theory and the Standard Model

In this lecture we discuss the basic ingredients for gauge invariant quantum field theories. We give an introduction to the elements of quantum field theory, to the construction of the basic Lagrangian for a general gauge theory, and proceed with the formulation of QCD and the electroweak Standard Model with electroweak symmetry breaking via the Higgs mechanism. The phenomenology of W and Z bosons is discussed and implications for the Higgs boson are derived from comparison with experimental precision data.

From the LHC to Future Colliders

Discoveries at the LHC will soon set the physics agenda for future colliders. This report of a CERN Theory Institute includes the summaries of Working Groups that reviewed the physics goals and prospects of LHC running with 10 to 300/fb of integrated luminosity, of the proposed sLHC luminosity upgrade, of the ILC, of CLIC, of the LHeC and of a muon collider. The four Working Groups considered possible scenarios for the first 10/fb of data at the LHC in which (i) a state with properties that are compatible with a Higgs boson is discovered, (ii) no such state is discovered either because the Higgs properties are such that it is difficult to detect or because no Higgs boson exists, (iii) a missing-energy signal beyond the Standard Model is discovered as in some supersymmetric models, and (iv) some other exotic signature of new physics is discovered. In the contexts of these scenarios, the Working Groups reviewed the capabilities of the future colliders to study in more detail whatever new physics may be discovered by the LHC. Their reports provide the particle physics community with some tools for reviewing the scientific priorities for future colliders after the LHC produces its first harvest of new physics from multi-TeV collisions.

Z Pole Observables in the MSSM

We present the currently most accurate prediction of Z pole observables such as sin^2 theta_eff, Gamma_Z, R_b, R_l, and sigma^0_had in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We take into account the complete one-loop results including the full complex phase dependence, all available MSSM two-loop corrections as well as the full SM results. We furthermore include higher-order corrections in the MSSM Higgs boson sector, entering via virtual Higgs boson contributions. For Gamma(Z -> neutralino{1} neutralino{1}) we present a full one-loop calculation. We analyse the impact of the different sectors of the MSSM with particular emphasis on the effects of the complex phases. The predictions for the Z boson observables and M_W are compared with the current experimental values. Furthermore we provide an estimate of the remaining higher-order uncertainties in the prediction of sin^2 theta_eff.

The Higgs Boson Masses and Mixings of the Complex MSSM in the Feynman-Diagrammatic Approach

New results for the complete one-loop contributions to the masses and mixing effects in the Higgs sector are obtained for the MSSM with complex parameters using the Feynman-diagrammatic approach. The full dependence on all relevant complex phases is taken into account, and all the imaginary parts appearing in the calculation are treated in a consistent way. The renormalization is discussed in detail, and a hybrid on-shell/DRbar scheme is adopted. We also derive the wave function normalization factors needed in processes with external Higgs bosons and discuss effective couplings incorporating leading higher-order effects. The complete one-loop corrections, supplemented by the available two-loop corrections in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach for the MSSM with real parameters and a resummation of the leading (s)bottom corrections for complex parameters, are implemented into the public Fortran code FeynHiggs2.5. In our numerical analysis the full results for the Higgs-boson masses and couplings are compared with various approximations, and CP-violating effects in the mixing of the heavy Higgs bosons are analyzed in detail. We find sizable deviations in comparison with the approximations often made in the literature.

Precise Prediction for M_W in the MSSM

We present the currently most accurate evaluation of the W boson mass, M_W, in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The full complex phase dependence at the one-loop level, all available MSSM two-loop corrections as well as the full Standard Model result have been included. We analyse the impact of the different sectors of the MSSM at the one-loop level with a particular emphasis on the effect of the complex phases. We discuss the prediction for M_W based on all known higher-order contributions in representative MSSM scenarios. Furthermore we obtain an estimate of the remaining theoretical uncertainty from unknown higher-order corrections.

High-Precision Predictions for the MSSM Higgs Sector at O(alpha_b alpha_s)

We evaluate O(alpha_b alpha_s) corrections in the Higgs boson sector of the CP-conserving MSSM, generalising the known result in the literature to arbitrary values of tan beta. A detailed analysis of the renormalisation in the bottom/scalar bottom sector is performed. Concerning the lightest MSSM Higgs boson mass, we find relatively small corrections for positive mu, while for mu < 0 the genuine two-loop O(alpha_b alpha_s) corrections can amount up to 3 GeV. Different renormalisation schemes are applied and numerically compared. It is demonstrated that some care has to be taken in choosing an appropriate renormalisation prescription in order to avoid artificially large corrections. The residual dependence on the renormalisation scale is investigated, and the remaining theoretical uncertainties from unknown higher-order corrections in this sector are discussed for different regions of the MSSM parameter space.

Electroweak corrections to $γZ$ production at hadron colliders

In this paper we present the results from a calculation of the full electroweak one-loop corrections for $γZ$ vector-boson pair production at hadron colliders. The cases of proton--antiproton as well as proton--proton collisions, at the Tevatron and the LHC, respectively, are considered. Results are presented for the distribution of the $γZ$ invariant mass and for the transverse momentum of the final-state photon. The higher-order electroweak effects are numerically significant, in particular for probing possible anomalous gauge-boson couplings.

Electroweak Precision Observables in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

The current status of electroweak precision observables in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is reviewed. We focus in particular on the $W$ boson mass, M_W, the effective leptonic weak mixing angle, sin^2 theta_eff, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, (g-2)_μ, and the lightest CP-even MSSM Higgs boson mass, m_h. We summarize the current experimental situation and the status of the theoretical evaluations. An estimate of the current theoretical uncertainties from unknown higher-order corrections and from the experimental errors of the input parameters is given. We discuss future prospects for both the experimental accuracies and the precision of the theoretical predictions. Confronting the precision data with the theory predictions within the unconstrained MSSM and within specific SUSY-breaking scenarios, we analyse how well the data are described by the theory. The mSUGRA scenario with cosmological constraints yields a very good fit to the data, showing a clear preference for a relatively light mass scale of the SUSY particles. The constraints on the parameter space from the precision data is discussed, and it is shown that the prospective accuracy at the next generation of colliders will enhance the sensitivity of the precision tests very significantly.

Electroweak Precision Observables in the MSSM with Non-Minimal Flavor Violation

The leading corrections to electroweak precision observables in the MSSM with non-minimal flavor violation (NMFV) are calculated and the effects on M_W and sin^2 theta_eff are analyzed. The corrections are obtained by evaluating the full one-loop contributions from the third and second generation scalar quarks, including the mixing in the scalar top and charm, as well as in the scalar bottom and strange sector. Furthermore the leading corrections to the mass of the lightest MSSM Higgs boson, m_h, is obtained. The electroweak one-loop contribution to M_W can amount up to 140 MeV and up to 70x10^{-5} for sin^2 theta_eff, allowing to set limits on the NMFV parameters. The corrections for m_h are not significant for moderate generation mixing.

Physics Interplay of the LHC and the ILC

Physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the International e+e- Linear Collider (ILC) will be complementary in many respects, as has been demonstrated at previous generations of hadron and lepton colliders. This report addresses the possible interplay between the LHC and ILC in testing the Standard Model and in discovering and determining the origin of new physics. Mutual benefits for the physics programme at both machines can occur both at the level of a combined interpretation of Hadron Collider and Linear Collider data and at the level of combined analyses of the data, where results obtained at one machine can directly influence the way analyses are carried out at the other machine. Topics under study comprise the physics of weak and strong electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetric models, new gauge theories, models with extra dimensions, and electroweak and QCD precision physics. The status of the work that has been carried out within the LHC / LC Study Group so far is summarised in this report. Possible topics for future studies are outlined.

Higgs decays in the Two Higgs Doublet Model: Large quantum effects in the decoupling regime

We study the Higgs-boson decays h0 -> b \bar{b}, h0 -> γγand h0 -> γZ within the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model (THDM) in the context of the decoupling regime, together with tree level unitarity constraints. We show that when the light CP-even Higgs boson of the THDM mimics the Standard-Model Higgs boson, not only the one-loop effects to h0 -> {γγ,γZ} but also the one-loop contribution to h0 -> b \bar{b} can be used to distinguish between THDM and SM. The size of the quantum effects in h0 -> b \bar{b} are of the same order as in h0 -> {γγ,γZ} and can reach 25% in both cases.

Towards High-Precision Predictions for the MSSM Higgs Sector

The status of the evaluation of the MSSM Higgs sector is reviewed. The phenomenological impact of recently obtained corrections is discussed. In particular it is shown that the upper bound on m_h within the MSSM is shifted upwards. Consequently, lower limits on tan beta obtained by confronting the upper bound as function of tan beta with the lower bound on m_h from Higgs searches are significantly weakened. Furthermore, the region in the M_A-tan beta-plane where the coupling of the lightest Higgs boson to down-type fermions is suppressed is modified. The presently not calculated higher-order corrections to the Higgs-boson mass matrix are estimated to shift the mass of the lightest Higgs boson by up to 3 GeV.

Complete one-loop corrections to the mass spectrum of charginos and neutralinos in the MSSM

The mass spectrum of the chargino--neutralino sector in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) is calculated at the one-loop level, based on the complete set of one-loop diagrams. On-shell renormalization conditions are applied to determine the counterterms for the gaugino-mass-parameters $M_1, M_2$ and the Higgsino-mass parameter $μ$. The input is fixed in terms of three pole masses (two charginos and one neutralino); the other pole masses receive a shift with respect to the tree-level masses, which can amount to several GeV. The detailed evaluation shows that both the fermionic/sfermionic loop contributions and the non-(s)fermionic loop contributions are of the same order of magnitude and are thus relevant for precision studies at future colliders.

Electroweak Radiative Corrections to Neutral-Current Drell-Yan Processes at Hadron Colliders

We calculate the complete electroweak O(alpha) corrections to pp, pbar p -> l+l- X (l=e, mu) in the Standard Model of electroweak interactions. They comprise weak and photonic virtual one-loop corrections as well as real photon radiation to the parton-level processes q bar q -> gamma,Z -> l+l-. We study in detail the effect of the radiative corrections on the l+l- invariant mass distribution, the cross section in the Z boson resonance region, and on the forward-backward asymmetry, A_FB, at the Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The weak corrections are found to increase the Z boson cross section by about 1%, but have little effect on the forward-backward asymmetry in the Z peak region. Threshold effects of the W box diagrams lead to pronounced effects in A_FB at m(l+l-) approx 160 GeV which, however, will be difficult to observe experimentally. At high di-lepton invariant masses, the non-factorizable weak corrections are found to become large.

Top Dipole Form Factors and Loop-induced CP-violation in Supersymmetry

The one-loop Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) contributions to the weak and electromagnetic dipole form factors of the top quark are presented. Far from the Z peak, they are not sufficient to account for all the new physics effects. In the context of the calculation of the process e^+e^- -> t tbar to one loop in the MSSM, we compare the impact on the phenomenology of the CP-violating dipole form factors of the top quark with the contribution from CP-violating box graphs. Some exemplificative observables are analyzed and the relevance of both the contributions is pointed out. The one-loop expressions for the electromagnetic and weak dipole form factors in a general renormalizable theory and the SM and MSSM couplings and conventions are also given.

Decay widths of the neutral CP-even MSSM Higgs bosons in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) we incorporate the Higgs-boson propagator corrections, evaluated up to two-loop order, into the prediction of $Γ$(h -> ff) and BR(h -> ff) for f = b, c, $τ$. The propagator corrections consist of the full one-loop contribution, including the effects of non-vanishing external momentum, and corrections of O(alpha alpha_s) at the two-loop level. The results are supplemented with the dominant one-loop QED corrections and final state QCD corrections from both gluons and gluinos. The effects of the two-loop propagator corrections and of the one-loop gluino contributions are investigated in detail. Our results are compared with the result obtained within the renormalization group approach. Agreement within 10% is found for most parts of the MSSM parameter space.

Physics Impact of GigaZ

By running the prospective high-energy e^+ e^- collider TESLA in the GigaZ mode on the Z resonance, experiments can be performed on the basis of more than 10^9 Z events. They will allow the measurement of the effective electroweak mixing angle to an accuracy of approximately +- 10^-5. Likewise the W boson mass is expected to be measurable with an error of about 6 MeV near the W^+ W^- threshold. In this note, we study the accuracy with which the Higgs boson mass can be determined from loop corrections to these observables in the Standard Model. The comparison with a directly observed Higgs boson may be used to constrain new physics scales affecting the virtual loops. We also study constraints on the heavy Higgs particles predicted in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, which are very difficult to observe directly for large masses. Similarly, it is possible to constrain the mass of the heavy scalar top particle.

Precision Analysis of the Masses of the Neutral Higgs Bosons in the MSSM

The masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) are predicted on the basis of explicit Feynman-diagrammatic calculations. The results, containing the complete diagrammatic one-loop corrections, the leading two-loop corrections of O(alpha alpha_s) and further improvements taking into account leading electroweak two-loop and higher-order QCD contributions, are discussed and compared with results obtained by renormalization group calculations. Good agreement is found in the case of vanishing mixing in the scalar top sector, while sizable deviations occur if scalar top mixing is taken into account. By means of a Taylor expansion a compact approximation formula for the mass of the lightest Higgs boson, m_h, is derived. The quality of the approximation in comparison with the full result is analyzed.

Renormalization and Symmetry Conditions in Supersymmetric QED

For supersymmetric gauge theories a consistent regularization scheme that preserves supersymmetry and gauge invariance is not known. In this article we tackle this problem for supersymmetric QED within the framework of algebraic renormalization. For practical calculations, a non-invariant regularization scheme may be used together with counterterms from all power-counting renormalizable interactions. From the Slavnov--Taylor identity, expressing gauge invariance, supersymmetry and translational invariance, simple symmetry conditions are derived that are important in a twofold respect: they establish exact relations between physical quantities that are valid to all orders, and they provide a powerful tool for the practical determination of the counterterms. We perform concrete one-loop calculations in dimensional regularization, where supersymmetry is spoiled at the regularized level, and show how the counterterms necessary to restore supersymmetry can be read off easily. In addition, a specific example is given how the supersymmetry transformations in one-loop order are modified by non-local terms.

The Masses of the Neutral CP-even Higgs Bosons in the MSSM: Accurate Analysis at the Two-Loop Level

We present detailed results of a diagrammatic calculation of the leading two-loop QCD corrections to the masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The two-loop corrections are incorporated into the full diagrammatic one-loop result and supplemented with refinement terms that take into account leading electroweak two-loop and higher-order QCD contributions. The dependence of the results for the Higgs-boson masses on the various MSSM parameters is analyzed in detail, with a particular focus on the part of the parameter space accessible at LEP2 and the upgraded Tevatron. For the mass of the lightest Higgs boson, m_h, a parameter scan has been performed, yielding an upper limit on m_h which depends only on tan(beta). The results for the Higgs-boson masses are compared with results obtained by renormalization group methods. Good agreement is found in the case of vanishing mixing in the scalar quark sector, while sizable deviations occur if squark mixing is taken into account.

Weak Electric Dipole Moments of Heavy Fermions in the MSSM

A minimal supersymmetric version of the Standard Model with complex parameters allows contributions to the weak-electric dipole moments of fermions at the one-loop level. Assuming generation-diagonal trilinear soft-susy-breaking terms and the usual GUT constraint, a set of CP-violating physical phases can be introduced. In this paper the general expressions for the one-loop contribution to the WEDM in a generic renormalizable theory are given and the size of the WEDM of the tau lepton and the b quark in such a supersymmetric model is discussed.

One-loop MSSM Contribution to the Weak Magnetic Dipole Moments of Heavy Fermions

The MSSM predictions at the one-loop level for the weak-magnetic dipole moments of the $τ$ lepton and the $b$ quark are analysed. The entire supersymmetric parameter space is scannedwith the usual GUT constraint and common squark and slepton mass parameters. The real part of $a^W_τ$ is dominated by the chargino contribution, being the same order as the SM one or even larger in the high $\tanβ$ region whereas the imaginary part, due to Higgs boson diagrams, is negligible comparedto the SM value. The real part of$a^W_b$ is controlled mainly by charginos andalso by gluinos, when the mixing in the bottom squark sector is large, to yield, for high $\tanβ$, a contribution one order of magnitude largerthan the pure electroweak SM value but a factor five smaller than the standard QCD contribution. The imaginary part of $a^W_b$ is the same order as in the SM.

SUSY Higgs Boson Decays into Scalar Quarks: QCD Corrections

In supersymmetric theories, the decays of the neutral CP-even and CP-odd as well as the charged Higgs bosons into scalar quarks, in particular into top and bottom squarks, can be dominant if they are kinematically allowed. We calculate the QCD corrections to these decay modes in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, including all quark mass terms and squark mixing. These corrections turn out to be rather large, altering the decay widths by an amount which can be larger than 50%. The corrections can be either positive or negative, and depend strongly on the mass of the gluino. We also discuss the QCD corrections to the decays of heavy scalar quarks into light scalar quarks and Higgs bosons.

Global Fits of the SM and MSSM to Electroweak Precision Data

A program including all radiative corrections to the MSSM at the same level as the radiative corrections to the SM has been developed and used to perform global fits to all electroweak data from LEP, SLC and the Tevatron and the radiative b->sgamma decay from CLEO. Values of the strong coupling constant at the $M_Z$ scale and $\sin^2θ_{\overline{MS}}$ are derived, both in the SM and MSSM. Recent updates on electroweak data, which have been presented at the Warsaw Conference in summer 1996, reduce the R_b anomaly from a 3.2 sigma to a 1.8 sigma effect. In addition, the $b \to sγ$ decay is 30% below the SM prediction. In the MSSM light stops and light charginos increase $R_b$ and decrease the $b \to sγ$ rate, so both observations can be brought into agreement with the MSSM for the same region of parameter space. However, the resulting $χ^2$ value for the MSSM fits is only marginally lower and in addition, the splitting in the stop sector has to be unnaturally high.

QCD Corrections to Scalar Quark Decays

In supersymmetric theories, the main decay modes of scalar quarks are decays into quarks plus charginos or neutralinos, if the gluinos are heavy enough. We calculate the O($α_s$) QCD corrections to these decay modes in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. In the case of scalar top and bottom quarks, where mixing effects can be important, these corrections can reach values of the order of a few ten percent. They can be either positive or negative and increase logarithmically with the gluino mass. For the scalar partners of light quarks, the corrections do not exceed in general the level of ten percent for gluino masses less than 1 TeV.

The coupling of the lightest SUSY Higgs boson to two photons in the decoupling regime

We analyze the contribution of the SUSY particles to the coupling of the lightest Higgs boson to two photons in supersymmetric theories. We discuss to what extent these contributions can be large enough to allow for a discrimination between the lightest SUSY and the standard Higgs particles in the decoupling limit where all other Higgs bosons are very heavy and no supersymmetric particle has been discovered at future colliders. We find that only chargino and top squark loops can generate a sizeable difference between the standard and the SUSY Higgs-photon couplings. For masses above 250 GeV, the effect of chargino loops on the two-photon width is however smaller than $\sim 10%$ in the entire SUSY parameter space. Top squarks heavier than 250 GeV can induce deviations larger than 10% only if their couplings to the Higgs boson are large. Since top squark contributions can be sizeable, we derive the two-loop QCD correction to squark loops and show that they are well under control.
