Dirichlet spectrum and Green function

In the first part of this article we obtain an identity relating the radial spectrum of rotationally invariant geodesic balls and an isoperimetric quotient $\sum 1/λ_{i}^{\rm rad}=\int V(s)/S(s)ds$. We also obtain upper and lower estimates for the series $\sum λ_{i}^{-2}(Ω)$ where $Ω$ is an extrinsic ball of a proper minimal surface of $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. In the second part we show that the first eigenvalue of bounded domains is given by iteration of the Green operator and taking the limit, $λ_{1}(Ω)=\lim_{k\to \infty} \Vert G^k(f)\Vert_{2}/\Vert G^{k+1}(f)\Vert_{2}$ for any function $f>0$. In the third part we obtain explicitly the $L^{1}(Ω, μ)$-momentum spectrum of a bounded domain $Ω$ in terms of its Green operator. In particular, we obtain the first eigenvalue of a weighted bounded domain in terms of the $L^{1}(Ω, μ)$-momentum spectrum, extending the work of Hurtado-Markvorsen-Palmer on the first eigenvalue of rotationally invariant balls.

Asymptotically extrinsic tamed submanifolds

We study, from the extrinsic point of view, the structure at infinity of open submanifolds isometrically immersed in the real space forms of constant sectional curvature $κ\leq 0$. We shall use the decay of the second fundamental form of the the so-called tamed immersions to obtain a description at infinity of the submanifold in the line of the structural results in the papers Internat. Math. Res. Notices 1994, no. 9, authored by R. E. Greene, P. Petersen and S. Zhou and Math. Ann. 2001, 321 (4), authored by A. Petrunin and W. Tuschmann. We shall obtain too an estimation from below of the number of its ends in terms of the volume growth of a special class of extrinsic domains, the extrinsic balls.

Conformal type of ends of revolution in space forms of constant sectional curvature

In this paper we consider the conformal type (parabolicity or non-parabolicity) of complete ends of revolution immersed in simply connected space forms of constant sectional curvature. We show that any complete end of revolution in the $3$-dimensional Euclidean space or in the $3$-dimensional sphere is parabolic. In the case of ends of revolution in the hyperbolic $3$-dimensional space, we find sufficient conditions to attain parabolicity for complete ends of revolution using their relative position to the complete flat surfaces of revolution.

Mean curvature, volume and properness of isometric immersions

We explore the relation among volume, curvature and properness of a $m$-dimensional isometric immersion in a Riemannian manifold. We show that, when the $L^p$-norm of the mean curvature vector is bounded for some $m \leq p\leq \infty$, and the ambient manifold is a Riemannian manifold with bounded geometry, properness is equivalent to the finiteness of the volume of extrinsic balls. We also relate the total absolute curvature of a surface isometrically immersed in a Riemannian manifold with its properness. Finally, we relate the curvature and the topology of a complete and non-compact $2$-Riemannian manifold $M$ with non-positive Gaussian curvature and finite topology, using the study of the focal points of the transverse Jacobi fields to a geodesic ray in $M$ . In particular, we have explored the relation between the minimal focal distance of a geodesic ray and the total curvature of an end containing that geodesic ray.

On the total curvature and extrinsic area growth of surfaces with tamed second fundamental form

In this paper we show that a complete and non-compact surface immersed in the Euclidean space with quadratic extrinsic area growth has finite total curvature provided the surface has tamed second fundamental form and admits total curvature. In such a case we obtain as well a generalized Chern-Osserman inequality. In the particular case of a surface of nonnegative curvature, we prove that the surface is diffeomorphic to the Euclidean plane if the surface has tamed second fundamental form, and that the surface is isometric to the Euclidean plane if the surface has strongly tamed second fundamental form. In the last part of the paper we characterize the fundamental tone of any submanifold of tamed second fundamental form immersed in an ambient space with a pole and quadratic decay of the radial sectional curvatures.

Ends, fundamental tones, and capacities of minimal submanifolds via extrinsic comparison theory

We study the volume of extrinsic balls and the capacity of extrinsic annuli in minimal submanifolds which are properly immersed with controlled radial sectional curvatures into an ambient manifold with a pole. The key results are concerned with the comparison of those volumes and capacities with the corresponding entities in a rotationally symmetric model manifold. Using the asymptotic behavior of the volumes and capacities we then obtain upper bounds for the number of ends as well as estimates for the fundamental tone of the submanifolds in question.

Geometric approach to non-relativistic Quantum Dynamics of mixed states

In this paper we propose a geometrization of the non-relativistic quantum mechanics for mixed states. Our geometric approach makes use of the Uhlmann's principal fibre bundle to describe the space of mixed states and as a novelty tool, to define a dynamic-dependent metric tensor on the principal manifold, such that the projection of the geodesic flow to the base manifold gives the temporal evolution predicted by the von Neumann equation. Using that approach we can describe every conserved quantum observable as a Killing vector field, and provide a geometric proof for the Poincare quantum recurrence in a physical system with finite energy levels.

Jellett-Minkowski's formula revisited. Isoperimetric inequalities for submanifolds in an ambient manifold with bounded curvature

In this paper we provide an extension to the Jellett-Minkowski's formula for immersed submanifolds into ambient manifolds which possesses a pole and radial curvatures bounded from above or below by the radial sectional curvatures of a rotationally symmetric model space. Using this Jellett-Minkowski's generalized formula we can focus on several isoperimetric problems. More precisely, on lower bounds for isoperimetric quotients of any precompact domain with smooth boundary, or on the isoperimetric profile of the submanifold and its modified volume. In the particular case of a model space with strictly decreasing radial curvatures, an Aleksandrov type theorem is provided.

On the fundamental tone of minimal submanifolds with controlled extrinsic curvature

The aim of this paper is to obtain the fundamental tone for minimal submanifolds of the Euclidean or hyperbolic space under certain restrictions on the extrinsic curvature. We show some sufficient conditions on the norm of the second fundamental form that allow us to obtain the same upper and lower bound for the fundamental tone of minimal submanifolds in a Cartan-Hadamard ambient manifold. As an intrinsic result, we obtain a sufficient condition on the volume growth of a Cartan-Hadamard manifold to achieve the lowest bound for the fundamental tone given by McKean.

Extrinsic isoperimetry and compactification of minimal surfaces in Euclidean and Hyperbolic spaces

We study the topology of (properly) immersed complete minimal surfaces $P^2$ in Hyperbolic and Euclidean spaces which have finite total extrinsic curvature, using some isoperimetric inequalities satisfied by the extrinsic balls in these surfaces, (see \cite{Pa}). We present an alternative and partially unified proof of the Chern-Osserman inequality satisfied by these minimal surfaces, (in $\erre^n$ and in $\Han$), based in the isoperimetric analysis above alluded. Finally, we show a Chern-Osserman type equality attained by complete minimal surfaces in the Hyperbolic space with finite total extrinsic curvature.

Volume Growth, Number of Ends and the Topology of a Complete Submanifold

Given a complete isometric immersion $ϕ: P^m \longrightarrow N^n$ in an ambient Riemannian manifold $N^n$ with a pole and with radial sectional curvatures bounded from above by the corresponding radial sectional curvatures of a radially symmetric space $M^n_w$, we determine a set of conditions on the extrinsic curvatures of $P$ that guarantees that the immersion is proper and that $P$ has finite topology, in the line of the paper "On Submanifolds With Tamed Second Fundamental Form", (Glasgow Mathematical Journal, 51, 2009), authored by G. Pacelli Bessa and M. Silvana Costa. When the ambient manifold is a radially symmetric space, it is shown an inequality between the (extrinsic) volume growth of a complete and minimal submanifold and its number of ends which generalizes the classical inequality stated in Anderson's paper "The compactification of a minimal submanifold by the Gauss Map", (Preprint IEHS, 1984), for complete and minimal submanifolds in $\erre^n$. We obtain as a corollary the corresponding inequality between the (extrinsic) volume growth and the number of ends of a complete and minimal submanifold in the Hyperbolic space together with Bernstein type results for such submanifolds in Euclidean and Hyperbolic spaces, in the vein of the work due to A. Kasue and K. Sugahara "Gap theorems for certain submanifolds of Euclidean spaces and hyperbolic space forms", (Osaka J. Math. 24,1987).
