Correlations and Critical Behavior in Lattice Gluodynamics

In the Landau-gauge lattice gluodynamics we find that, both in the SU(2) and SU(3) theory, a correlation of the Polyakov loop with the asymmetry of the $A^2$ gluon condensate as well as with the longitudinal propagator makes it possible to determine the critical behavior of these quantities. We discuss finite-volume corrections and reveal that they can be reduced by the use of regression analysis. We also analyze the temperature dependence of low-momenta propagators in different Polyakov-loop sectors.

Landau gauge ghost propagator and running coupling in SU(2) lattice gauge theory

We study finite (physical) volume and scaling violation effects of the Landau gauge ghost propagator as well as of the running coupling $α_s(p)$ in the $SU(2)$ lattice gauge theory. We consider lattices with physical linear sizes between $aL \simeq 3$ fm and $7$ fm and values of lattice spacing between $a=0.2$ fm and $0.07$ fm. To fix the gauge we apply an efficient gauge fixing method aimed at finding extrema as close as possible to the global maximum of the gauge functional. We find finite volume effects to be small for the lattice size $aL \simeq 3$ fm at momenta $|p|\, \ge \, 0.6$ GeV. For the same lattice size we study extrapolations to the continuum limit of the ghost dressing function as well as for the running coupling with momenta chosen between $|p| = 0.41$ GeV and $3.2$ GeV. We present fit formulae for the continuum limit of both observables in this momentum range. Our results testify in favor of the decoupling behavior in the infrared limit.

Gluon Propagators in 3D SU(2) Theory and Effects of Gribov Copies

Infrared behavior of the Landau gauge gluon propagators is studied numerically in the 3d SU(2) gauge theory on the lattice. A special accent is made on the study of Gribov copy effect. For this study we employ an efficient gauge-fixing algorithm and a large number of gauge copies (up to 280 copies per configuration). It is shown that, in the deep infrared region, the Gribov copy effects are very significant. Also we show that, in the infinite-volume limit, the zero-momentum value of the propagator does not vanish.

Infinite volume and continuum limits for gluon propagator in 3d SU(2) lattice gauge theory

We study the Landau gauge gluon propagator D(p) in the 3d SU(2) lattice gauge theory. We show that in the infinite-volume limit the expectation values over the Gribov region Ω, are different (in the infrared) from that calculated in the fundamental modular region Γ. Also we show that this conclusion does not change when spacing $a$ tends to zero.

Study of thermal monopoles in lattice QCD

The properties of the thermal Abelian color-magnetic monopoles in the maximally Abelian gauge are studied in the vicinity of the confinement-deconfinement phase transition in the lattice $SU(3)$ gluodynamics and lattice QCD. We compute the density and interaction parameters of the thermal monopoles. We find that the density of the thermal monopoles $ρ(T)$ jumps up near the transition temperature $T_c$. Additionally we present new results on the percolation transition in $SU(3)$ gluodynamics which is known to coincide in gluodynamics with the confinement-deconfinement phase transition.

Topology across the finite temperature transition studied by overimproved cooling in gluodynamics and QCD

Gluodynamics and two-flavor QCD at non-zero temperature are studied with the so-called overimproved cooling technique under which caloron solutions may remain stable. We consider topological configurations either at the first occuring stable plateau of topological charge or at the first (anti)selfdual plateau and find the corresponding topological susceptibility at various temperatures on both sides of the thermal transition or crossover. In pure gluodynamics the topological susceptibility drops sharply at the deconfinement temperature while in full QCD it decreases smoothly at temperatures above the pseudocritical one. The results are close to those calculated by other methods. We interpret our findings in terms of the (in)stability of calorons with non-trivial holonomy and their dyon constituents against overimproved cooling.

Lattice QCD gluon propagators near transition temperature

Landau gauge gluon propagators are studied numerically in the SU(3) gluodynamics as well as in the full QCD with the number of flavors $n_F=2$ using efficient gauge fixing technique. We compare these propagators at temperatures very close to the transition point in two phases : confinement and deconfinement. The electric mass $m_E$ has been determined from the momentum space longitudinal gluon propagator. Gribov copy effects are found to be rather strong in the gluodynamics, while in the full QCD case they are weak ("Gribov noise"). Also we analyse finite volume dependence of the transverse and longitudinal propagators.

SU(2) lattice gluon propagators at finite temperatures in the deep infrared region and Gribov copy effects

We study numerically the SU(2) Landau gauge transverse and longitudinal gluon propagators at non-zero temperatures T both in confinement and deconfinement phases. The special attention is paid to the Gribov copy effects in the IR-region. Applying powerful gauge fixing algorithm we find that the Gribov copy effects for the transverse propagator D_T(p) are very strong in the infrared, while the longitudinal propagator D_L(p) shows very weak (if any) Gribov copy dependence. The value D_T(0) tends to decrease with growing lattice size; however, D_T(0) is non-zero in the infinite volume limit, in disagreement with the suggestion made in [1]. We show that in the infrared region D_T(p) is not consistent with the pole-type formula not only in the deconfinement phase but also for T < T_c. We introduce new definition of the magnetic infrared mass scale ('magnetic screening mass') m_M. The electric mass m_E has been determined from the momentum space longitudinal gluon propagator. We study also the (finite) volume and temperature dependence of the propagators as well as discretization errors.

SU(2) lattice gluon propagator: continuum limit, finite-volume effects and infrared mass scale m_IR

We study the scaling behavior and finite (physical) volume effects as well as the Gribov copy dependence of the SU(2) Landau gauge gluon propagator on the lattice. Our physical lattice sizes range from $(3.0 \mathrm{fm})^4$ to $(7.3 \mathrm{fm})^4$. Considering lattices with decreasing lattice spacing but fixed physical volume we confirm (non-perturbative) multiplicative renormalizability and the approach to the {\it continuum limit} for the renormalized gluon propagator $D_{ren}(p)$ at momenta $|p| \ageq 0.6$ GeV >. The finite-volume effects and Gribov copy influence turn out small in this region. On the contrary, in the deeper infrared we found the Gribov copy influence strong and finite-volume effects, which still require special attention. The gluon propagator does not seem to be consistent with a simple pole-like behavior $\sim (p^2+m_g^2)^{-1}$ for momenta $|p| \aleq 0.6$ GeV. Instead, a Gaussian-type fit works very well in this region. From its width - for a physical volume $(5.0 \mathrm{fm})^4$ - we estimate a corresponding infrared (mass) scale to be $m_\mathrm{IR} \sim 0.7 $ GeV.

Improved Landau gauge fixing and the suppression of finite-volume effects of the lattice gluon propagator

For the gluon propagator of pure SU(2) lattice gauge theory in the Landau gauge we investigate the effect of Gribov copies and finite-volume effects. Concerning gauge fixing, we enlarge the accessible gauge orbits by adding non-periodic Z(2) gauge transformations and systematically employ the simulated annealing algorithm. Strategies to keep all Z(2) sectors under control within reasonable CPU time are discussed. We demonstrate that the finite-volume effects in the infrared regime become ameliorated. Reaching a physical volume of about (6.5 fm)^4, we find that the propagator, calculated with the indicated improvements, becomes flat in the region of smallest momenta. First signs in 4d of a final decrease towards vanishing momentum are discussed.

On the gauge dependence of the singlet and adjoint potentials

We study gauge dependence of the recently suggested definition of the singlet and adjoint potentials in SU(2) lattice gauge theory. We find that in the (time local) maximal tree axial gauge the singlet potential obtained from the gauge dependent correlator ${Tr} L(x)L^\dagger(y)$ differs from that computed in the Coulomb gauge. In the generalized Coulomb gauge we find the range of the parameter values in which the singlet potential differs from that in the Coulomb gauge.

Performance studies of the two-step multiboson algorithm in compact lattice QED

The performance of the two-step multiboson (TSMB) algorithm is investigated in comparison with the hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) method for compact lattice QED with standard Wilson fermions both in the Coulomb and confinement phases. The restriction to QED allows for extensive measurements of autocorrelation times. Preliminary results show that the TSMB algorithm is at least competitive with standard HMC.

Compact fields and mass generation

It is shown that the free propagator of an angular, i.e. compact, field with zero lagrangian mass acquires a nonzero propagator mass $ω$ (`kinematical' mass generation). To demonstrate this effect the free propagator of the goldstone boson in an O(2) model with spontaneous symmetry breaking is calculated. It is shown that this propagator is massive, the mass $ω$ being a function of the scalar `condensate' ${\barϕ}$.

Efficiency of different matrix inversion methods applied to Wilson fermions

We compare different conjugate gradient -- like matrix inversion methods (CG, BiCGstab1 and BiCGstab2) employing for this purpose the compact lattice quantum electrodynamics (QED) with Wilson fermions. The main goals of this investigation are the CPU time efficiency of the methods as well as the influence of machine precision on the reliability of (physical) results especially close to the 'critical' line $~κ_c(\bt)$.
