Analysis of the kinematic boundaries of the quasi-elastic neutrino-nucleus cross section in the superscaling model with a relativistic effective mass

In this work we obtain the analytical expressions for the boundaries of the charged current quasi-elastic double differential cross section in terms of dimensionless energy and momentum transfers, for the Relativistic Fermi Gas (RFG) and the Super-Scaling approach with relativistic effective mass (SuSAM*) models, within the scaling formalism. In addition, we show that this double differential cross section in the scaling formalism has very good properties to be implemented in the Monte Carlo (MC) neutrino event generators, particularly because its peak is almost flat with the (anti)neutrino energy. This makes it especially well-suited for the event generation by the acceptance-rejection method usually used in the neutrino generators. Finally, we analyze the total charged current quasi-elastic (CCQE) cross section $σ(E_ν)$ for both models and attribute the enhancement observed in the SuSAM* total cross section to the high-momentum components which are present, in a phenomenological way, in its scaling function, while these are absent in the RFG model.

Neutrino-nucleon cross sections at energies of Megaton-scale detectors

An updated set of (anti)neutrino-nucleon charged and neutral current cross sections at $3~{\rm GeV} \lesssim E_ν\lesssim 100~{\rm GeV}$ is presented. These cross sections are of particular interest for the detector optimization and data processing and interpretation in the future Megaton-scale experiments like PINGU, ORCA, and Hyper-Kamiokande. Finite masses of charged leptons and target mass corrections in exclusive and deep inelastic $(\barν)νN$ interactions are taken into account. A new set of QCD NNLO parton density functions, the ABMP15, is used for calculation of the DIS cross sections. The sensitivity of the cross sections to phenomenological parameters and to extrapolations of the nucleon structure functions to small $x$ and $Q^2$ is studied. An agreement within the uncertainties of our calculations with experimental data is demonstrated.

Covariant asymmetric wave packet for a field-theoretical description of neutrino oscillations

We consider a class of models for the relativistic covariant wave packets which can be used as asymptotically free in and out states in the quantum field theoretical formalisms for description of the neutrino flavor oscillation phenomenon. We demonstrate that the new "asymmetric" wave packet (AWP) is an appropriate alternative for the more convenient "symmetric" wave packets, like the so-called relativistic Gaussian packet (RGP) widely used in the QFT-based approaches to neutrino oscillations. We show that RGP is not a particular case of AWP, although many properties of these models are almost identical in the quasistable regime. We discuss some features of AWP distinguishing it from RGP.

Extraction of Neutrino Flux with the Low $ν$ Method at MiniBooNE Energies

We describe the application of the `low-$ν$' method to the extraction of the neutrino flux at MiniBooNE energies. As an example, we extract the relative energy dependence of the flux from published MiniBooNE quasielastic scattering cross sections with $ν< 0.2$ GeV and $ν< 0.1$ GeV (here $ν$ is the energy transfer to the target). We find that the flux extracted from the `low-$ν$' cross sections is consistent with the nominal flux used by MiniBooNE. We fit the MiniBooNE cross sections over the entire kinematic range to various parametrizations of the axial form factor. We find that if the overall normalization of the fit is allowed to float within the normalization errors, the extracted values of the axial vector mass are independent of the flux. Within the Fermi gas model, the $Q^2$ distribution of the MiniBooNE data is described by a standard dipole form factor with $M_A=1.41\pm0.04$ GeV. If nuclear transverse enhancement in the vector form factors is accounted for, the data are best fit with a modified dipole form factor with $M_A=1.10\pm 0.03$ GeV.

Atmospheric neutrino flux supported by recent muon experiments

We present a new one-dimensional calculation of low and intermediate energy atmospheric muon and neutrino fluxes, using up-to-date data on primary cosmic rays and hadronic interactions. We study several sources of uncertainties relevant to our calculations. A comparison with the muon fluxes and charge ratios measured in several modern balloon-borne experiments suggests that the atmospheric neutrino flux is essentially lower than one used for the standard analyses of the sub-GeV and multi-GeV neutrino induced events in underground detectors.

Atmospheric Muon Flux at Sea Level, Underground, and Underwater

The vertical sea-level muon spectrum at energies above 1 GeV and the underground/underwater muon intensities at depths up to 18 km w.e. are calculated. The results are particularly collated with a great body of the ground-level, underground, and underwater muon data. In the hadron-cascade calculations, the growth with energy of inelastic cross sections and pion, kaon, and nucleon generation in pion-nucleus collisions are taken into account. For evaluating the prompt muon contribution to the muon flux, we apply two phenomenological approaches to the charm production problem: the recombination quark-parton model and the quark-gluon string model. To solve the muon transport equation at large depths of homogeneous medium, a semi-analytical method is used. The simple fitting formulas describing our numerical results are given. Our analysis shows that, at depths up to 6-7 km w. e., essentially all underground data on the muon intensity correlate with each other and with predicted depth-intensity relation for conventional muons to within 10%. However, the high-energy sea-level data as well as the data at large depths are contradictory and cannot be quantitatively decribed by a single nuclear-cascade model.

Kaon Decay Form Factors and Atmospheric Neutrino Flavor Ratio at High Energies

The dependence of the semileptonic kaon decay form factors on the 4-momentum transfer to the lepton pair causes certain changes in the differential decay rates and, hence, it should affect the conventional atmospheric neutrino flux and neutrino flavour ratio. As a case in point, we included these rates into the calculation of the atmospheric neutrino flux at energies 1 to 100 TeV. The calculated neutrino spectra are between the earlier predictions while the neutrino flavor ratio, R, is somewhat affected by the kaon form factors. The R proves to be very sensitive to the contribution of neutrinos from decay of charmed particles, providing an additional method to test the charm production models in future experiments with large-volume neutrino telescopes.
