Constraints on lepton flavor universal and non-universal New Physics in $b\, \to\, s\, \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays: a global SMEFT survey

The flavor-changing neutral current semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons provide an excellent platform for indirectly probing New Physics (NP) beyond the Standard Model (SM). Recent measurements of lepton flavor universality (LFU) ratios such as $R_K$, $R_{K^*}$, and $R_ϕ$ are consistent with SM predictions, thereby reducing earlier hints of LFU violation. Nevertheless, notable tensions persist in individual branching fractions -- for instance $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to K^+ μ^+ μ^-)$ and $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to K^+ e^+ e^-)$, which deviate at the $4σ$--$5σ$ level in the low-$q^2$ region ($[1.1,6]$ GeV$^2$). Similarly, the angular observable $P'_5$ in $B \to K^{*} μ^+ μ^-$ shows a $3.3σ$ deviation, while $\mathcal{B}(B_s \to ϕμ^+ μ^-)$ departs from the SM by $3.6σ$. Although such discrepancies could in principle originate from underestimated hadronic effects, they may also indicate possible NP contributions. In this work, we perform a global fit to the latest $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ data within the framework of dimension-6 SMEFT operators. Our analysis systematically incorporates hadronic uncertainties from form factors, non-factorizable corrections, and input parameters, thereby providing a balanced assessment of the NP interpretation. We allow for NP contributions not only in $b \to s μ^+ μ^-$ transitions but also in $b \to s e^+ e^-$ channels, thus testing both lepton flavor universal (LFU) and lepton flavor universality violating (LFUV) NP scenarios. The interplay between these possibilities yields distinctive signatures in branching fractions, angular observables, and $Δ$-observables, offering a comprehensive view of the current flavor anomalies.

Constraining lepton flavor violating SMEFT $2q2\ell$ operators from low-energy cLFV processes

Charged lepton flavour-violating (cLFV) processes, which are definite proof of new physics beyond the Standard Model, have remained elusive experimentally till now. Effective Field Theory (EFT) has been very useful in providing information about such new physics through the higher-dimensional operators. These operators respect SM gauge invariance, and they are suppressed by appropriate powers of the energy scale $Λ$. In regard to lepton flavour violating (LFV) processes, the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) is shown to be a useful tool for estimating any new physics effect at the scale $Λ$. It is worth noticing that a large class of cLFV processes involve both quarks and leptons and thus low-energy observables play a significant role in providing bounds on lepton-flavour-violating 2-quark-2-lepton ($2q2\ell$) operators. Therefore, in this work, we have collected several low-energy cLFV processes that can be addressed within the SMEFT framework and also collected the set of operators responsible for such processes. Keeping in mind the correlation that exists among the SMEFT operators, we want to extract the strongest constraints on these $2q2\ell$ operators.

Associated production of heavy Higgs bosons with a $b\bar{b}$ pair in the Nonholomorphic MSSM and LHC searches

In the NonHolomorphic Supersymmetric Standard Model (NHSSM), the Yukawa couplings of the bottom quark ($y_b$) and the tau lepton ($y_τ$) might receive substantial supersymmetric (SUSY) radiative corrections which have prominent dependencies on the NHSSM-specific trilinear soft parameters, $A_b^\prime$ and $A_τ^\prime$, respectively, in addition to their well-known dependence on $\tanβ$ as is already present in the Minimal SUSY Standard Model (MSSM). We study to what extent these could affect the production cross sections of the heavy Higgs bosons ($H$ and $A$) in association with a pair of $b$-quarks and their decay branching ratios, in particular, to a $τ\barτ$ pair and compare them with those obtained in the MSSM. Requiring compliance with the recently observed upper bounds on the product of their total cross-section and the branching ratio to $τ\barτ$ at the 13 TeV run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), with data worth 139 fb$^{-1}$, results in an altered exclusion region in the customary $m_A-\tanβ$ plane in the framework of the NHSSM when compared to what is derived by the LHC experiments within an MSSM setup. Such alterations are estimated to be pronounced only for large $\tanβ$ ($\geq 40$) and for large, negative $A_b^\prime$ when one finds a reinforced exclusion of the $m_A-\tanβ$ plane with an excluded $m_A$ value larger by $\approx 200$ GeV, compared to the MSSM case, at $\tanβ=60$. On the other hand, the maximum relaxation in $m_A$, for a similarly large but positive $A_b^\prime$, barely exceeds $\approx 100$ GeV as a result of complementary variations in production cross-sections and decay branching fractions of the heavy, neutral Higgs bosons.

Probing Lepton Flavor Violating decays in MSSM with Non-Holomorphic Soft Terms

The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) can be extended to include non-holomorphic trilinear soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking interactions that may have distinct signatures. We consider non-vanishing off-diagonal entries of the coupling matrices associated with holomorphic (of MSSM) and non-holomorphic trilinear terms corresponding to sleptons with elements $A^l_{ij}$ and $A^{\prime l}_{ij}$. We first improve the MSSM charge breaking minima condition of the vacuum to include the off-diagonal entries $A^l_{ij}$ (with $i \neq j$). We further extend this analysis for non-holomorphic trilinear interactions. No other sources of lepton flavor violation like that from charged slepton matrices are considered. We constrain the interaction terms via the experimental limits of processes like charged leptons decaying with lepton flavor violation (LFV) and Higgs boson decaying to charged leptons with LFV. Apart from the leptonic decays we compute all the three neutral LFV Higgs boson decays of MSSM. We find that an analysis with non-vanishing $A^\prime_{eμ}$ involving the first two generations of sleptons receives the dominant constraint from $μ\to e γ$. On the other hand, $A^\prime_{eτ}$ or $A^\prime_{μτ}$ can be constrained from the CMS 13 TeV analysis giving limits to the respective Yukawa couplings via considering SM Higgs boson decaying into $eτ$ or $μτ$ final states. Contributions from $A^l_{ij}$ is too little to have any significance compared to the large effect from $A^{\prime l}_{ij}$.

Probing Non-holomorphic MSSM via precision constraints, dark matter and LHC data

In this analysis we explore the phenomenological constraints of models with non-holomorphic soft SUSY breaking terms in a beyond the MSSM scenario having identical particle content. The model referred as NHSSM shows various promising features like the possibility of a strong reduction in electroweak fine-tuning even for a scenario of a heavy higgsino type of LSP, a fact that is unavailable in pMSSM models. The other important aspect is satisfying the muon $g-2$ data even for a small $\tanβ$ via a small value of coupling $A_μ'$ associated with the tri-linear non-holomorphic soft term. Thus, a large SUSY contribution to muon $g-2$ is possible even for a significantly large smuon mass $m_{\tilde {μ_1}}$. The Higgs mass radiative corrections are contributed by both the holomorphic and non-holomorphic trilinear soft parameters $A_t$ and $A_t'$, thus diluting the requirement to have a larger $A_t$ to satisfy the Higgs mass data. The model also provides with valid parameter space satisfying the constraint of $B \rightarrow X_s +γ$ for large values of $\tanβ$, a scenario unfavourable in pMSSM.

Status of the 98 - 125 GeV Higgs scenario with updated LHC-8 data

In the context of minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we discuss the possibility of the lightest Higgs boson with mass $M_h = 98 $ GeV to be consistent with the $2.3σ$ excess observed at the LEP in the decay mode $e^+e^- \to Zh$, with $h \to b {\bar b}$. In the same region of the MSSM parameter space, the heavier Higgs boson $(H)$ with mass $M_H \sim 125 $ GeV is required to be consistent with the latest data on Higgs coupling measurements at the end of 7 + 8 TeV LHC run with $25{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data. While scanning the MSSM parameter space, we impose constraints coming from flavour physics, relic density of the cold dark matter as well as direct dark matter searches. We study the possibility of observing this light Higgs boson in vector boson fusion process and associated production with $W/Z$ boson at the high luminosity $(3000~{\rm fb}^{-1})$ run of the 14 TeV LHC. Our analysis shows that this scenario can hardly be ruled out even at the high luminosity run of the LHC. However, the precise measurement of the Higgs signal strength ratios can play a major role to distinguish this scenario from the canonical MSSM one.

Higgsino Dark Matter in Nonuniversal Gaugino Mass Models

We study two simple and well motivated nonuniversal gaugino mass models, which predict higgsino dark matter. One can account for the observed dark matter relic density along with the observed Higgs boson mass of ~ 125 GeV over a large region of the parameter space of each model, corresponding to higgsino mass of ~ 1 TeV. In each case this parameter region covers the gluino mass range of 2-3 TeV, parts of which can be probed by the 14 TeV LHC experiments. We study these model predictions for LHC in brief and for dark matter detection experiments in greater detail.

Reduced LHC constraints for higgsino-like heavier electroweakinos

As a sequel to our earlier work on wino-dominated $\tilde χ_1^{\pm}$ and $\tilde χ_2^{0}$ (wino models), we focus on the pMSSM models where $\tilde χ_1^{\pm}$ and $\tilde χ_{2,3}^{0}$ are either higgsino dominated (higgsino models) or admixtures of significant amount of higgsino and wino components (mixed models), with or without light sleptons. The LHC constraints in the trilepton channel are significantly weaker even in the presence of light sleptons, especially in the higgsino models, compared to those mostly studied by the LHC collaborations with wino-dominated $\tilde χ_1^{\pm}$ and $\tilde χ_2^{0}$. The modes $\tilde χ_{2,3}^{0}\rightarrow h~\tildeχ_1^{0}$ with large branching ratios (BRs) are more common in the higgsino models and may produce spectacular signal in the LHC Run-II. In a variety of higgsino and mixed models we have delineated the allowed parameter space due to the LHC constraints, the observed Dark Matter (DM) relic density of the universe, which gets contributions from many novel DM producing mechanisms i.e., the annihilation/coannihilation processes that lead to the correct range of relic density, and the precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. In the higgsino models many new DM producing mechanisms, which are not allowed in the wino models, open up. We have also explored the prospects of direct and indirect detection of DM in the context of the LUX and IceCube experiments respectively. In an extended model having only light gluinos in addition to the electroweak sparticles, the gluinos decay into final states with multiple taggable b-jets with very large BRs. As a consequence, the existing ATLAS data in the $0l$ + jets (3b) + $E\!\!\!\!/_T$ channel provide the best limit on $m_{\tilde g}$ ($\approx$ 1.3 TeV). Several novel signatures of higgsino models for LHC Run-II and ILC have been identified.

Exploring MSSM for Charge and Color Breaking and Other Constraints in the Context of Higgs@125 GeV

Exploring MSSM parameter space after the discovery of Higgs Boson with mass 125 GeV naturally demands large top-squark mixing or large trilinear coupling parameter $A_t$ in particular, so as to avoid excessively heavy squark, specially for the universal models like CMSSM. We study stability of electroweak symmetry breaking vacua in possible presence of deeper charge-color symmetry breaking minima within MSSM. Besides stable vacua, we consider scenarios characterized by the presence of global CCB minima, with SM like charge and color conserving vacuum, having stability over cosmologically large lifetime {(\it long-lived states)}. We allow vacuum expectation values for both stop as well as sbottom fields, since these belong to the third generation of sfermions with larger Yukawa couplings that have immediate effect on the tunneling time. Moreover, for large $μ$ regions, radiative corrections to Higgs boson mass from bottom-squark loop is quite significant. Regions of MSSM parameters space become viable for large $A_t$ and large $μ$ zones which are generically excluded via the traditional analytical CCB constraints. For a large value of $\tanβ$, safe vacua associated with large values of $|μ|$ and $|A_t|$ are predominantly long-lived and may be associated with relatively light stop masses. We also identify low $μ$ regions associated with long-lived states. Both the above zones can be friendly to muon $g-2$ constraint. We also impose constraints from ${\rm Br}(B \rightarrow X_s γ)$ and ${\rm Br}(B_s \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-)$. We do the analysis for a moderate and a large $\tanβ$. Results are compatible with dark matter related constraints, as expected.

The Electroweak Sector of the pMSSM in the Light of LHC - 8 TeV and Other Data

Using the chargino-neutralino and slepton search results from the LHC in conjunction with the WMAP/PLANCK and $(g-2)_μ$ data, we constrain several generic pMSSM models with decoupled strongly interacting sparticles, heavier Higgs bosons and characterized by different hierarchies among the EW sparticles. We find that some of them are already under pressure and this number increases if bounds from direct detection experiments like LUX are taken into account, keeping in mind the associated uncertainties. The XENON1T experiment is likely to scrutinize the remaining models closely. Analysing models with heavy squarks, a light gluino along with widely different EW sectors, we show that the limits on gluino mass are not likely to be below 1.1 TeV, if a multichannel analysis of the LHC data is performed. Using this light gluino scenario we further illustrate that in future LHC experiments the models with different EW sectors can be distinguished from each other by the relative sizes of the $n$-leptons + $m$-jets + ${\mbox{${E\!\!\!\!/_T}$}}$ signals for different choices of $n$.

Implication of Higgs at 125 GeV within Stochastic Superspace Framework

We revisit the issue of considering stochasticity of Grassmannian coordinates in N=1 superspace, which was analyzed previously by Kobakhidze {\it et al}. In this stochastic supersymmetry(SUSY) framework, the soft SUSY breaking terms of the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model(MSSM) such as the bilinear Higgs mixing, trilinear coupling as well as the gaugino mass parameters are all proportional to a single mass parameter ξ, a measure of supersymmetry breaking arising out of stochasticity. While a nonvanishing trilinear coupling at the high scale is a natural outcome of the framework, a favorable signature for obtaining the lighter Higgs boson mass $m_h$ at 125 GeV, the model produces tachyonic sleptons or staus turning to be too light. The previous analyses took $Λ$, the scale at which input parameters are given, to be larger than the gauge coupling unification scale $M_G$ in order to generate acceptable scalar masses radiatively at the electroweak scale. Still this was inadequate for obtaining $m_h$ at 125 GeV. We find that Higgs at 125 GeV is highly achievable provided we are ready to accommodate a nonvanishing scalar mass soft SUSY breaking term similar to what is done in minimal anomaly mediated SUSY breaking (AMSB) in contrast to a pure AMSB setup. Thus, the model can easily accommodate Higgs data, LHC limits of squark masses, WMAP data for dark matter relic density, flavor physics constraints and XENON100 data. In contrast to the previous analyses we consider $Λ=M_G$, thus avoiding any ambiguities of a post-grand unified theory physics. The idea of stochastic superspace can easily be generalized to various scenarios beyond the MSSM . PACS Nos: 12.60.Jv, 04.65.+e, 95.30.Cq, 95.35.+d

Implications of 98 GeV and 125 GeV Higgs scenario in non-decoupling SUSY with updated ATLAS, CMS and PLANCK data

We discuss both MSSM and NMSSM scenarios in which the lightest Higgs boson with $m_h=98$~GeV is consistent with the small excess ($\sim 2.3 σ$) observed at the LEP in $e^+ e^-\rightarrow Zh$, with $h \rightarrow b {\bar b}$ process and the heavier Higgs boson of mass close to 125~GeV as the observed candidate of the SM Higgs like particle at the LHC. We show the allowed regions in the non-decoupling Higgs zone of MSSM parameter space which are consistent with several low energy constraints coming from heavy flavour physics, latest experimental data on Higgs signals and lower limit on superparticle masses from 7~TeV and 8~TeV LHC run. We also implement the constraints from the relic density of the cold dark matter as obtained from the recent PLANCK data. Additionally, we discuss the possibility of observing the light Higgs boson of mass 98~GeV at the 14~TeV LHC run via $pp \rightarrow V h$, with $h \rightarrow b \bar b$ using the technique of jet substructure. Our analysis shows that at 14~TeV LHC run with 300 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ luminosity the signal efficiency of such a light Higgs boson is at most 2.5$σ$. Finally, we make a comment on the prospect of proposed $e^+ e^-$ ILC to discover/exclude this light Higgs boson.

Non-universal scalar mass scenario with Higgs funnel region of SUSY dark matter: a signal-based analysis for the Large Hadron Collider

We perform a multilepton channel analysis in the context of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) compatible points in a model with non-universal scalar masses, which admits a Higgs funnel region of supersymmetry dark matter even for a small $\tanβ$. In addition to two and three-lepton final states, four-lepton events, too, are shown to be useful for this purpose. We also compare the collider signatures in similar channels for WMAP compatible points in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) framework with similar gluino masses. Some definite features of such non-universal scenario emerge from the analysis.

Probing the light Higgs pole resonance annihilation of dark matter in the light of XENON100 and CDMS-II observations

We consider the prospect of lightest neutralino (${\tilde χ}_1^0$) as a dark matter candidate in the light of recent interesting observations from the XENON100 and CDMS-II experiments in minimal supergravity framework with large $\tanβ$ and non-vanishing $A_0$. Within the WMAP satisfied zone, there is a large direct detection reach of lighter ${\tilde χ}_1^0$ in the lighter Higgs boson mediated resonance annihilation domain of the above scenario. It is seen that the heavier Higgs boson plays a dominating role in the ${\tilde χ}_1^0-p$ cross-section in the associated zone of parameter space in spite of having a larger mass. Possible LHC signatures are discussed.

Higgs funnel region of SUSY dark matter for small $\tanβ$ and renormalization group effects on pseudoscalar Higgs boson with scalar mass non-universality

A non-universal scalar mass supergravity type of model is explored where the first two generation of scalars and the third generation of sleptons may be very massive. Lighter or vanishing third generation of squarks as well as Higgs scalars at the unification scale cause the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking constraint to be less prohibitive. Thus, both FCNC/CP-violation problems as well as the naturalness problem are within control. We identify a large slepton mass effect in the RGE of $m_{H_D}^2$ (for the down type of Higgs) that may turn the later negative at the electroweak scale even for a small $\tanβ$. A hyperbolic branch/focus point like effect is found for $m_A^2$ that may result in very light Higgs spectra. The lightest stable particle is dominantly a bino that pair annihilates via Higgs exchange, giving rise to a WMAP satisfied relic density region for all $\tanβ$. Detection prospects of such LSPs in the upcoming dark matter experiments both of direct and indirect types (photon flux) are interesting. The Higgs bosons and the third generation of squarks are light in this scenario and these may be easily probed besides charginos and neutralinos in the early runs of LHC.

Large evolution of the bilinear Higgs coupling parameter in SUSY models and reduction of phase sensitivity

The phases in a generic low-energy supersymmetric model are severely constrained by the experimental upper bounds on the electric dipole moments of the electron and the neutron. Coupled with the requirement of radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, this results in a large degree of fine tuning of the phase parameters at the unification scale. In supergravity type models, this corresponds to very highly tuned values for the phases of the bilinear Higgs coupling parameter $B$ and the universal trilinear coupling $A_0$. We identify a cancellation/enhancement mechanism associated with the renormalization group evolution of $B$, which, in turn, reduces such fine-tuning quite appreciably without taking recourse to very large masses for the supersymmetric partners. We find a significant amount of reduction of this fine-tuning in nonuniversal gaugino mass models that do not introduce any new phases.

$b-τ$ Unification, $g_μ-2$, the $b\to s+γ$ Constraint and Nonuniversalities

An analysis is given of the $b-τ$ Yukawa coupling unification in view of the recent result from Brookhaven on $g_μ-2$ and under the constraint of $b\to s+γ$. We explore $b-τ$ unification under the above constraints for nonuniversal boundary conditions for the soft SUSY breaking parameters. We find new regions of the parameter space where significant negative supersymmetric contribution to the b quark mass can arise and $b-τ$ unification within SU(5) framework can occur with nonuniversal gaugino masses. Specifically we find that for the case where the gaugino mass matrix transforms like a 24 plet one finds a negative contribution to the b quark mass irrespective of the sign of the Higgs mixing parameter $μ$ when the supersymmetric contribution to $g_μ-2$ is positive. We exhibit regions of the parameter space where $b-τ$ unification occurs for $μ>0$ satisfying the constraints of $b\to s+γ$ and $g_μ-2$. The $μ<0$ case is also explored. The dependence of the accuracy of $b-τ$ unification defined by $|λ_b-λ_τ|/λ_τ$ on the parameter space is also investigated and it is shown that unification with an accuracy of a few percent can be achieved in significant regions of the parameter space. The allowed parameter space is consistent with the naturalness constraints and the corresponding sparticle spectrum is accessible at the Large Hadron Collider.

Constraints on Explicit CP Violation from the Brookhaven Muon g-2 Experiment

We use the recently derived CP phase dependent analytic results for the supersymmetric electro-weak correction to $g_μ-2$ to constrain the explicit CP phases in softly broken supersymmetry using the new physics effect seen in the g-2 Brookhaven measurement. It is shown that the BNL data strongly constrains the CP violating phase $θ_μ$ (the phase of the Higgs mixing parameter $μ$) and $ξ_2$ (the phase of the SU(2) gaugino mass $\tilde m_2$) and as much as 60-90% of the region in the $ξ_2-θ_μ$ plane is eliminated over a significant region of the MSSM parameter space by the BNL constraint. The region of CP phases not excluded by the BNL experiment allows for large phases and for a satisfaction of the EDM constraints via the cancellation mechanism. We find several models with large CP violation which satisfy the EDM constraint via the cancellation mechanism and produce an $a_μ^{SUSY}$ consistent with the new physics signal seen by the Brookhaven experiment. The sparticle spectrum of these models lies within reach of the planned accelerator experiments.

Muon g-2 and Implications for Supersymmetry

A brief review is given of the implications of the recent Brookhaven result on the muon anomaly ($a_μ$) for supersymmetry. We focus mainly on the implications of the recent results for the minimal supergravity unified model. We show that the observed difference implies the existence of sparticles most of which should become observable at the Large Hadron Collider. Further, as foreseen in works prior to the Brookhaven experiment the sign of the difference between experimental prediction of $a_μ$ and its Standard Model value determines the sign of the Higgs mixing parameter $μ$. The $μ$ sign has important implications for the direct detection of dark matter. Implications of the Brookhaven result for other low energy phenomena are also discussed.

Supersymmetric Dark Matter and Yukawa Unification

An analysis of supersymmetric dark matter under the Yukawa unification constraint is given. The analysis utilizes the recently discovered region of the parameter space of models with gaugino mass nonuniversalities where large negative supersymmetric corrections to the b quark mass appear to allow $b-τ$ unification for a positive $μ$ sign consistent with the $b\to s+γ$ and $g_μ-2$ constraints. In the present analysis we use the revised theoretical determination of $a_μ^{SM}$ ($a_μ= (g_μ-2)/2$) in computing the difference $a_μ^{exp}-a_μ^{SM}$ which takes account of a reevaluation of the light by light contribution which has a positive sign. The analysis shows that the region of the parameter space with nonuniversalities of the gaugino masses which allows for unification of Yukawa couplings also contains regions which allow satisfaction of the relic density constraint. Specifically we find that the lightest neutralino mass consistent with the relic density constraint, $bτ$ unification for SU(5) and $b-t-τ$ unification for SO(10) in addition to other constraints lies in the region below 80 GeV. An analysis of the maximum and the minimum neutralino-proton scalar cross section for the allowed parameter space including the effect of a new determination of the pion-nucleon sigma term is also given. It is found that the full parameter space for this class of models can be explored in the next generation of proposed dark matter detectors.
