Consistent higher order $σ(\mathcal{G} \,\mathcal{G}\rightarrow h)$, $Γ(h \rightarrow \mathcal{G} \,\mathcal{G})$ and $Γ(h \rightarrow γγ)$ in geoSMEFT

We report consistent results for $Γ(h \rightarrow γγ)$, $σ(\mathcal{G} \,\mathcal{G}\rightarrow h)$ and $Γ(h \rightarrow \mathcal{G} \,\mathcal{G})$ in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) perturbing the SM by corrections $\mathcal{O}(\bar{v}_T^2/16 π^2 Λ^2)$ in the Background Field Method (BFM) approach to gauge fixing, and to $\mathcal{O}(\bar{v}_T^4/Λ^4)$ using the geometric formulation of the SMEFT. We combine and modify recent results in the literature into a complete set of consistent results, uniforming conventions, and simultaneously complete the one loop results for these processes in the BFM. We emphasise calculational scheme dependence present across these processes, and how the operator and loop expansions are not independent beyond leading order. We illustrate several cross checks of consistency in the results.

Large Hadron Collider Constraints on Some Simple $Z'$ Models for $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ Anomalies

We examine current Large Hadron Collider constraints on some simple $Z'$ models that significantly improve on Standard Model fits to $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ transition data. The models that we consider are the 'third family baryon number minus second family lepton number' $(B_3-L_2)$ model and the 'third family hypercharge' model and variants. The constraints are applied on parameter regions of each model that fit the $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ transition data and come from high-mass Drell-Yan di-muons and measurements of Standard Model processes. This latter set of observables place particularly strong bounds upon the parameter space of the $B_3-L_2$ model when the mass of the $Z'$ boson is less than 300 GeV.

Collider Constraints on $Z^\prime$ Models for Neutral Current $B-$Anomalies

We examine current collider constraints on some simple $Z^\prime$ models that fit neutral current $B-$anomalies, including constraints coming from measurements of Standard Model (SM) signatures at the LHC. The `MDM' simplified model is not constrained by the SM measurements but {\em is} strongly constrained by a 139 fb$^{-1}$ 13 TeV ATLAS di-muon search. Constraints upon the `MUM' simplified model are much weaker. A combination of the current $B_s$ mixing constraint and ATLAS' $Z^\prime$ search implies $M_{Z^\prime}>1.2$ TeV in the Third Family Hypercharge Model example case. LHC SM measurements rule out a portion of the parameter space of the model for $M_{Z^\prime}<1.5$ TeV.

Sensitivity of Future Hadron Colliders to Leptoquark Pair Production in the Di-Muon Di-Jets Channel

We estimate the future sensitivity of the high luminosity (HL-) and high energy (HE-) modes of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and of a 100 TeV future circular collider (FCC-hh) to leptoquark (LQ) pair production in the muon-plus-jet decay mode of each LQ. Such LQs are motivated by the fact they provide an explanation for the neutral current $B-$anomalies. For each future collider, Standard Model (SM) backgrounds and detector effects are simulated. From these, sensitivities of each collider are found. Our measures of sensitivity are based upon a Run II ATLAS search, which we also use for validation. We illustrate with a narrow scalar ('$S_3$') LQ and find that, in our channel, the HL-LHC has exclusion sensitivity to LQ masses up to 1.8 TeV, the HE-LHC up to 4.8 TeV and the FCC-hh up to 13.5 TeV.

Ward Identities for the Standard Model Effective Field Theory

We derive Ward identities for the Standard Model Effective Field Theory using the background field method. The resulting symmetry constraints on the Standard Model Effective Field Theory are basis independent, and constrain the perturbative and power-counting expansions. A geometric description of the field connections, and real representations for the $\rm SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ generators, underlies the derivation.

Inverse Amplitude Method for Perturbative Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Sector: The Singlet Higgs Portal as a Study Case

We explore the use of the Inverse Amplitude Method for unitarization of scattering amplitudes to derive the existence and properties of possible new heavy states associated with perturbative extensions of the electroweak breaking sector of the Standard Model starting from the low energy effective theory. We use a toy effective theory generated by integrating out a heavy singlet scalar and compare the pole mass and width of the unitarized amplitudes with those of the original model. Our results show that the Inverse Amplitude Method reproduces correctly the singlet mass up to factors of O(1-3), but its width is overestimated.

The Higgs Legacy of the LHC Run I

Based on Run I data we present a comprehensive analysis of Higgs couplings. For the first time this SFitter analysis includes independent tests of the Higgs-gluon and top Yukawa couplings, Higgs decays to invisible particles, and off-shell Higgs measurements. The observed Higgs boson is fully consistent with the Standard Model, both in terms of coupling modifications and effective field theory. Based only on Higgs total rates the results using both approaches are essentially equivalent, with the exception of strong correlations in the parameter space induced by effective operators. These correlations can be controlled through additional experimental input, namely kinematic distributions. Including kinematic distributions the typical Run I reach for weakly interacting new physics now reaches 300 to 500 GeV.

The Non-Linear Higgs Legacy of the LHC Run I

In the recent paper on "The Higgs Legacy of the LHC Run I" we interpreted the LHC Higgs results in terms of an effective Lagrangian using the SFitter framework. For the on-shell Higgs analysis of rates and kinematic distributions we relied on a linear representation based on dimension-6 operators with a simplified fermion sector. In this addendum we describe how the extension of Higgs couplings modifications in a linear dimension-6 Lagrangian can be formally understood in terms of the non-linear effective field theory. It turns out that our previous results can be translated to the non-linear framework through a simple operator rotation.

Constraining anomalous Higgs interactions

The recently announced Higgs discovery marks the dawn of the direct probing of the electroweak symmetry breaking sector. Sorting out the dynamics responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking now requires probing the Higgs interactions and searching for additional states connected to this sector. In this work we analyze the constraints on Higgs couplings to the standard model gauge bosons using the available data from Tevatron and LHC. We work in a model--independent framework expressing the departure of the Higgs couplings to gauge bosons by dimension--six operators. This allows for independent modifications of its couplings to gluons, photons and weak gauge bosons while still preserving the Standard Model (SM) gauge invariance. Our results indicate that best overall agreement with data is obtained if the cross section of Higgs production via gluon fusion is suppressed with respect to its SM value and the Higgs branching ratio into two photons is enhanced, while keeping the production and decays associated to couplings to weak gauge bosons close to their SM prediction.

Unitarity Constraints on Dimension-Six Operators

We obtain the partial-wave unitarity constraints on dimension-six operators stemming from the analyses of vector boson and Higgs scattering processes as well as the inelastic scattering of standard model fermions into electroweak gauge bosons. We take into account all coupled channels, all possible helicity amplitudes, and explore a six-dimensional parameter space of anomalous couplings. Our analysis shows that for those operators affecting the Higgs couplings, present 90% confidence level constraints from global data analysis of Higgs and electroweak data are such that unitarity is not violated if $\sqrt{s}\leq 3.2\;{\rm TeV}$. For the purely gauge-boson operator $O_{WWW}$, the present bounds from triple-gauge boson analysis indicate that within its presently allowed 90% confidence level range unitarity can be violated in $f\bar f' \to V V'$ at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}\geq 2.4\;{\rm TeV}$.

Determining Triple Gauge Boson Couplings from Higgs Data

In the framework of effective Lagrangians with the SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y symmetry linearly realized, modifications of the couplings of the Higgs field to the electroweak gauge bosons are related to anomalous triple gauge couplings (TGCs). Here, we show that the analysis of the latest Higgs boson production data at the LHC and Tevatron give rise to strong bounds on TGCs that are complementary to those from direct TGC analysis. We present the constraints on TGCs obtained by combining all available data on direct TGC studies and on Higgs production analysis. Robust Determination of the Higgs Couplings: Power to the Data

We study the indirect effects of new physics on the phenomenology of the recently discovered "Higgs-like" particle. In a model independent framework these effects can be parametrized in terms of an effective Lagrangian at the electroweak scale. In a theory in which the SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y gauge symmetry is linearly realized they appear at lowest order as dimension--six operators, containing all the SM fields including the light scalar doublet, with unknown coefficients. We discuss the choice of operator basis which allows us to make better use of all the available data on the new state, triple gauge boson vertex and electroweak precision tests, to determine the coefficients of the new operators. We illustrate our present knowledge of those by performing a global fit to the existing data which allows simultaneous determination of the eight relevant parameters quantifying the Higgs couplings to gluons, electroweak gauge bosons, bottom quarks, and tau leptons. We find that for all scenarios considered the standard model predictions for each individual Higgs coupling and observable are within the corresponding 68% CL allowed range. We finish by commenting on the implications of the results for unitarity of processes at higher energies. Note added: The analysis has been updated with all the public data available by October 2013. Robust determination of the scalar boson couplings

We study the indirect effects of new physics on the phenomenology of the "Higgs-like" particle. Assuming that the recently observed state belongs to a light electroweak doublet scalar and that the SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y symmetry is linearly realized, we parametrize these effects in terms of an effective Lagrangian at the electroweak scale. We choose the dimension--six operator basis which allows us to make better use of all the available data to constrain the coefficients of the dimension-six operators. We perform a global 6--parameter fit which allows simultaneous determination of the standard model scalar couplings to gluons, electroweak gauge bosons, bottom quarks, and tau leptons. The results are based on the data released at Moriond 2013. Moreover, our formalism leads to strong constraints on the electroweak triple gauge boson couplings. Note added: The analysis has been updated with a NEW GLOBAL 6-PARAMETER FIT with all the public data available after Moriond 2013. Updates of this analysis are provided at the website http://hep.if.usp.br/Higgs, as well as new versions of the manuscript.
