Higgs production in $e$ and real $γ$ collision

We investigate the Standard Model Higgs boson production in $e^-γ$ collision. The electroweak one-loop contributions to the scattering amplitude for $e^-γ\rightarrow e^-H$ are calculated and expressed in analytical form. We analyze the cross section for the Higgs production in $e^-γ$ collision for each combination of polarizations of the initial electron and photon beams. The feasibility of observing the Higgs boson in $e^-+γ\rightarrow e^-+b+{\overline b}$ channel is examined.

Higgs Production in Two-Photon Process and Transition Form Factor

The Higgs production in the two-photon fusion process is investigated where one of the photons is off-shell while the other one is on-shell. This process is realized in either electron-positron collision or electron-photon collision where the scattered electron or positron is detected (single tagging) and described by the transition form factor. We calculate the contributions to the transition form factor of the Higgs boson coming from top-quark loops and W-boson loops. We then study the $Q^2$ dependence of each contribution to the total transition form factor and also of the differential cross section for the Higgs production.

Photon structure functions with heavy particle mass effects

In the framework of the perturbative QCD we investigate heavy particle mass effects on the unpolarized and polarized photon structure functions, $F_2^γ$ and $g_1^γ$, respectively. We present our basic formalism to treat heavy particle mass effects to NLO in perturbative QCD. We also study heavy quark effects on the QCD sum rule for the first moment of $g_1^γ$, which is related to axial anomaly. The photon structure function in supersymmetric QCD is also briefly discussed.

Squark Contributions to Photon Structure Functions and Positivity Constraints

Photon structure functions in supersymmetric QCD are investigated in terms of the parton model where squark contributions are evaluated. We calculate the eight virtual photon structure functions by taking the discontinuity of the squark massive one-loop diagrams of the photon-photon forward amplitude. The model-independent positivity constraints derived from the Cauchy-Schwarz inequalities are satisfied by the squark parton model calculation and actually the two equality relations hold for the squark contribution. We also show that our polarized photon structure function $g_1^γ$ for the real photon leads to the vanishing 1st moment sum rule, and the constraint $|g_1^γ|\leq F_1^γ$ is satisfied by the real photon. We also discuss a squark signature in the structure function $W_{TT}^τ$.

Heavy quark effects on parton distribution functions in the unpolarized virtual photon up to the next-to-leading order in QCD

We investigate the heavy quark mass effects on the parton distribution functions in the unpolarized virtual photon up to the next-to-leading order in QCD. Our formalism is based on the QCD-improved parton model described by the DGLAP evolution equation as well as on the operator product expansion supplemented by the mass-independent renormalization group method. We evaluate the various components of the parton distributions inside the virtual photon with the massive quark effects, which are included through the initial condition for the heavy quark distributions, or equivalently from the matrix element of the heavy quark operators. We discuss some features of our results for the heavy quark effects and their factorization-scheme dependence.

Resummation of large logarithms in the heavy quark effects on the parton distributions inside the virtual photon

We discuss the resummation of the large logarithmic terms appearing in the heavy quark effects on parton distribution functions inside the virtual photon. We incorporate heavy quark mass effects by changing the initial condition of the leading-order DGLAP evolution equation. In a certain kinematical limit, we recover the logarithmic terms of the next-to-leading order heavy quark effects obtained in the previous work. This method enables us to resum the large logarithmic terms due to heavy quark mass effects on the parton distributions in the virtual photon. We numerically calculate parton distributions using the formulae derived in this work, and discuss the property of the resummed heavy quark effects.

Spin Structure Function of the Virtual Photon Beyond the Leading Order in QCD

Polarized photon structure can be studied in the future polarized $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliding-beam experiments. We investigate the spin-dependent structure function of the virtual photon $g_1^γ(x,Q^2,P^2)$, in perturbative QCD for $Λ^2 \ll P^2 \ll Q^2$, where $-Q^2$ ($-P^2$) is the mass squared of the probe (target) photon. The analysis is performed to next-to-leading order in QCD. We particularly emphasize the renormalization scheme independence of the result. The non-leading corrections significantly modify the leading log result, in particular, at large $x$ as well as at small $x$. We also discuss the non-vanishing first moment sum rule of $g_1^γ$, where ${\cal O}(α_s)$ corrections are computed.

Higher-twist Effects in Spin Structure Functions

We discuss the QCD effects of the higher-twist operators in the nucleon spin-dependent structure functions measured by the polarized deep inelastic leptoproduction. We particularly study the renormalization of the twist-3 and twist-4 operators within the framework of operator product expansions and renormalization group methods in perturbative QCD. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the operators proportional to equation of motion which appear in the mixing of the higher-twist operators through renormalization. The logarithmic and power corrections in $Q^2$ due to the lowest spin higher-twist operators are discussed for the first moment of $g_1$ structure function, Bjorken and Ellis-Jaffe sum rules, as well as the lower moments of $g_2$ structure function.

Target Mass Corrections to QCD Bjorken Sum Rule for Nucleon Spin Structure Functions

We discuss the possible target mass corrections in the QCD analysis of nucleon's spin-dependent structure functions measured in the polarized deep-inelastic leptoproduction. The target mass correction for the QCD Bjorken sum rule is obtained from the Nachtmann moment and its magnitude is estimated employing positivity bound as well as the experimental data for the asymmetry parameters. We also study the uncertainty due to target mass effects in determining the QCD effective coupling constant $α_s(Q^2)$ from the Bjorken sum rule. The target mass effect for the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule is also briefly discussed.
