Dragging of inertial frames by matter and waves

In this paper, we review and analyze four specific general-relativistic problems in which gravitomagnetism plays an important role: the dragging of magnetic fields around rotating black holes, dragging inside a collapsing slowly rotating spherical shell of dust, compared with the dragging by rotating gravitational waves. We demonstrate how the quantum detection of inertial frame dragging can be accomplished by using the Unruh-DeWitt detectors. Finally, we shall briefly show how ``instantaneous Machian gauges'' can be useful in the cosmological perturbation theory.

Comparing Hamiltonians of a spinning test particle for different tetrad fields

This work is concerned with suitable choices of tetrad fields and coordinate systems for the Hamiltonian formalism of a spinning particle derived in [E. Barausse, E. Racine, and A. Buonanno, Phys. Rev. D 80, 104025 (2009)]. After demonstrating that with the originally proposed tetrad field the components of the total angular momentum are not preserved in the Schwarzschild limit, we analyze other hitherto proposed tetrad choices. Then, we introduce and thoroughly test two new tetrad fields in the horizon penetrating Kerr-Schild coordinates. Moreover, we show that for the Schwarzschild spacetime background the linearized in spin Hamiltonian corresponds to an integrable system, while for the Kerr spacetime we find chaos which suggests a nonintegrable system.

Analytic conformal compactification of Schwarzschild spacetime

Among the coordinates used to construct a conformal compactification of the Schwarzschild spacetime, none of them simultaneously extend smoothly both through an event horizon and beyond null infinity. To construct such coordinates, instead of starting with the Kruskal-Szekeres coordinates we assume direct analytic transformation between Schwarzschild and compactified coordinates and determine their behavior on the event horizon and at null infinity. We then propose an example of such coordinates and illustrate the way they cover the conformally extended Schwarzschild spacetime as well as their suitability for numerical applications.
