Quasi-periodic behaviour in the $γ$-ray light curve of the blazar PKS 0405-385

We analyze the quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) of the historical light curve of FSRQs PKS 0405-385 detected by the Fermi LAT from August 2008 to November 2021. To identify and determine the QPO signal of PKS 0405-385 in the $γ$-ray light curve, we use four time series analysis techniques based on frequency and time domains, i.e., the Lomb-Scargle periodogram (LSP), the weighted wavelet z-transform (WWZ), the REDFIT and the epoch folding. The results show that PKS 0405-385 has a quasi-periodic behavior of $\sim$2.8 yr with the significance of $\sim$4.3$σ$ in Fermi long-term monitoring. Remarkably, we also performed QPO analysis in the G-band light curve observed from October 2014 to October 2021 using LSP and WWZ technology, and the results ($\sim$4$σ$ of significance) are consistent with the periodic detection in $γ$-ray. This may imply that the optical emission is radiated by an electron population same as the \gr\ emission. In discussing the possible mechanism of quasi-periodic behavior, either the helical motion within a jet or the supermassive black hole binary system provides a viable explanation for the QPO of 2.8 yr, and the relevant parameters have been estimated.

The gamma-ray and Optical Variability Analysis of the BL Lac Object 3FGL J0449.4-4350

We have assembled the historical light curves of the BL Lac Object 3FGL J0449.4-4350 at optical and gamma-ray bands, the time spanning about 10 years, analyzed the periodic variability of the light curves by using four different methods (Lomb-Scargle periodogram, REDFIT38, Jurkevich and DACF). We detected a marginally possible quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) of ~450 days. Assuming it originates from the helical motion jet in a supermassive binary black hole (SMBBH) system undergoing major merger, we estimate the primary black hole mass M~7.7*10^{9} M_sun. To explore the origin of the gamma-ray, we investigated the optical-gamma-ray correlations using discrete correlation function (DCF) method, and found that the correlation between the two bands is very significant. This strong correlation tends to imply lepton self-synchro-Compton (LSSC) model to produce the gamma-ray.

Multi-color optical monitoring of Mrk 501 from 2010 to 2015

We have monitored the BL Lac object Mrk 501 in optical $V$, $R$ and $I$ bands from 2010 to 2015. For Mrk 501, the presence of strong host galaxy component can affect the results of photometry. After subtracting the host galaxy contributions, the source shows intraday and long-term variabilities for optical flux and color indices. The average variability amplitudes of $V$, $R$ and $I$ bands are $22.05\%, 22.25\%, 23.82\%$ respectively, and the value of duty cycle 14.87 per cent. A minimal variability timescale of 106 minutes is detected. No significant time lag between $V$ and $I$ bands is found on one night. The bluer-when-brighter (BWB) trend is dominant for Mrk 501 on intermediate, short and intraday timescales which supports the shock-in-jet model. For the long timescale, Mrk 501 in different state can have different BWB trend. The corresponding results of non-correcting host galaxy contributions are also presented.

The Broad Band Spectral Energy Distributions of SDSS Blazars

We compiled the radio, optical, and X-ray data of blazars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) database, and presented the distribution of luminosities and broad band spectral indices. The distribution of luminosities shows that the averaged luminosity of flat-spectral radio quasars (FSRQs) is larger than that of BL Lacs objects. On the other hand, the broad band spectral energy distribution reveals that FSRQs and low energy peaked BL Lac objects (LBLs) objects have similar spectral properties, but high energy peaked BL Lac objects (HBLs) have a distinct spectral property. This may be due to that different subclasses of blazars have different intrinsic environments and are at different cooling levels. Even so, a unified scheme also is revealed from the color-color diagram, which hints that there are similar physical processes operating in all objects under a range of intrinsic physical conditions or beaming parameter.
