A paradifferential approach for hyperbolic dynamical systems and applications

We develop a paradifferential approach for studying non-smooth hyperbolic dynamics and related non-linear PDE from a microlocal point of view. As an application, we describe the microlocal regularity, i.e the $H^s$ wave-front set for all $s$, of the unstable bundle $E_u$ for an Anosov flow. We also recover rigidity results of Hurder-Katok and Hasselblatt in the Sobolev class rather than Hölder: there is $s_0>0$ such that if $E_u$ has $H^s$ regularity for $s>s_0$ then it is smooth (with $s_0=2$ for volume preserving $3$-dimensional Anosov flows). In the appendix by Guedes Bonthonneau, it is also shown that it can be applied to deal with non-smooth flows and potentials. This work could serve as a toolbox for other applications.

A paradifferential reduction for the gravity-capillary waves system at low regularity and applications

We consider in this article the system of gravity-capillary waves in all dimensions and under the Zakharov/Craig-Sulem formulation. Using a paradifferential approach introduced by Alazard-Burq-Zuily, we symmetrize this system into a quasilinear dispersive equation whose principal part is of order $3/2$. The main novelty, compared to earlier studies, is that this reduction is performed at the Sobolev regularity of quasilinear pdes: $H^s(R^d)$ with $s\textgreater{}3/2+d/2$, $d$ being the dimension of the free surface. From this reduction, we deduce a blow-up criterion involving solely the Lipschitz norm of the velocity trace and the $C^{5/2+}$-norm of the free surface. Moreover, we obtain an a priori estimate in the $H^s$-norm and the contraction of the solution map in the $H^{s-3/2}$-norm using the control of a Strichartz norm. These results have been applied in establishing a local well-posedness theory for non-Lipschitz initial velocity in our companion paper.

A priori estimates for water waves with emerging bottom

We study the beach problem for water waves. The case we consider is a compact fluid domain, where the free surface intersect the bottom along an edge, with a non-zero contact angle. Using elliptic estimates in domain with edges and a new equation on the Taylor coefficient, we establish a priori estimates, for angles smaller than a dimensional constant. Local existence will be derived in a following paper.

Blow-up conditions for gravity water-waves

We exhibit blow-up conditions for the gravity water-waves equations in any dimension and in domains with arbitrary bottoms. We follow the method by Alazard, Burq and Zuily of using a paradifferential reduction of the equations and derive precise a priori Sobolev estimates. Those estimates are then used to prove three different blow-up conditions where neither the boundedness of the curvature of the surface nor the boundedness in time of the Lipschitz norm of the velocity are needed.
