Persistent Strange attractors in 3D Polymatrix Replicators

We introduce a one-parameter family of polymatrix replicators defined in a three-dimensional cube and study its bifurcations. For a given interval of parameters, this family exhibits suspended horseshoes and persistent strange attractors. The proof relies on the existence of a homoclinic cycle to the interior equilibrium. We also describe the phenomenological steps responsible for the transition from regular to chaotic dynamics in our system (route to chaos).

Stability of heteroclinic cycles: a new approach

This paper analyses the stability of cycles within a heteroclinic network lying in a three-dimensional manifold formed by six cycles, for a one-parameter model developed in the context of game theory. We show the asymptotic stability of the network for a range of parameter values compatible with the existence of an interior equilibrium and we describe an asymptotic technique to decide which cycle (within the network) is visible in numerics. The technique consists of reducing the relevant dynamics to a suitable one-dimensional map, the so called \emph{projective map}. Stability of the fixed points of the projective map determines the stability of the associated cycles. The description of this new asymptotic approach is applicable to more general types of networks and is potentially useful in computational dynamics.

Periodic attractor in the discrete time best-response dynamics of the Rock-Paper-Scissors game

The Rock-Paper-Scissors (RPS) game is a classic non-cooperative game widely studied in terms of its theoretical analysis as well as in its applications, ranging from sociology and biology to economics. Many experimental results of the RPS game indicate that this game is better modelled by the discretized best-response dynamics rather than continuous time dynamics. In this work we show that the attractor of the discrete time best-response dynamics of the RPS game is finite and periodic. Moreover we also describe the bifurcations of the attractor and determine the exact number, period and location of the periodic strategies.

Conservative and Dissipative Polymatrix Replicators

In this paper we address a class of replicator dynamics, referred as polymatrix replicators, that contains well known classes of evolutionary game dynamics, such as the symmetric and asymmetric (or bimatrix) replicator equations, and some replicator equations for $n$-person games. Polymatrix replicators form a simple class of algebraic o.d.e.'s on prisms (products of simplexes), which describe the evolution of strategical behaviours within a po\-pu\-lation stratified in $n\geq 1$ social groups. In the 80's Raymond Redheffer et al. developed a theory on the class of stably dissipative Lotka-Volterra systems. This theory is built around a reduction algorithm that "infers" the localization of the system' s attractor in some affine subspace. It was later proven that the dynamics on the attractor of such systems is always embeddable in a Hamiltonian Lotka-Volterra system. In this paper we extend these results to polymatrix replicators.
