As Astrocientistas e o paradoxo da desigualdade de gênero na física

The first edition of the event As Astrocientistas: the Brazilian Meeting of Women and Girls in Astrophysics, Cosmology, and Gravitation, happened in February 2021. It gathered great names of Brazilian science to pay homage to Brazilian female researchers and other female physicists with close ties to our community. This paper presents our motivation to organize this event, the challenges we faced, and exposes the learning experience we gained from doing so. We will talk about the relevance of this event as we perceive it.

Stochastic collapse

We investigate cosmological models described by a scalar field with an exponential potential, and apply the stochastic formalism, which allows us to study how quantum field fluctuations give rise to stochastic noise. This modifies the classical dynamics of the scalar field at large scales, above a coarse-graining scale. In particular we explore how quantum field fluctuations perturb the equation of state on large scales which can lead to a quantum instability of the classical collapse solution below the Planck scale in the case of a pressureless collapse.

An exponential correction to Starobinsky's inflationary model

We analyse $f(R)$ theories of gravity from a dynamical system perspective, showing how the $R^2$ correction in Starobinsky's model plays a crucial role from the viewpoint of the inflationary paradigm. Then, we propose a modification of Starobinsky's model by adding an exponential term in the $f(R)$ Lagrangian. We show how this modification could allow to test the robustness of the model by means of the predictions on the scalar spectral index $n_s$.
