Searching for Axino-Like Particle at Fixed Target Experiments

We investigate the detectability of axino-like particle, which is defined as a supersymmetric partner of axion-like particle and can be a good candidate for dark matter in our Universe. Especially, we consider the fixed target experiments to search for the light axino-like particle with a neutralino as the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle. We calculate the production and decay rate of neutralinos and the consequent number of events (such as photons and charged leptons) that are produced when the neutralinos decay to the axino-like particles.

Geometry of Area Without Length

To define a free string by the Nambu-Goto action, all we need is the notion of area, and mathematically the area can be defined directly in the absence of a metric. Motivated by the possibility that string theory admits backgrounds where the notion of length is not well defined but a definition of area is given, we study space-time geometries based on the generalization of metric to area metric. In analogy with Riemannian geometry, we define the analogues of connections, curvatures and Einstein tensor. We propose a formulation generalizing Einstein's theory that will be useful if at a certain stage or a certain scale the metric is ill-defined and the space-time is better characterized by the notion of area. Static spherical solutions are found for the generalized Einstein equation in vacuum, including the Schwarzschild solution as a special case.

Inflation from radion gauge-Higgs potential at Planck scale

We study whether the inflation is realized based on the radion gauge-Higgs potential obtained from the one-loop calculation in the 5-dimensional gravity coupled to a $U(1)$ gauge theory. We show that the gauge-Higgs can give rise to inflation in accord with the astrophysical data and the radion plays a role in fixing the values of physical parameters. We clarify the reason why the radion dominated inflation and the hybrid inflation cannot occur in our framework.

Power-counting and Renormalizability in Lifshitz Scalar Theory

We study the renormalizability in theories of a self-interacting Lifshitz scalar field. We show that although the statement of power-counting is true at one-loop order, in generic cases where the scalar field is dimensionless, an infinite number of counter terms are involved in the renormalization procedure. This problem can be avoided by imposing symmetries, the shift symmetry in the present paper, which allow only a finite number of counter terms to appear. The symmetry requirements might have important implications for the construction of matter field sectors in the Horava-Lifshitz gravity.

Tree-Level Unitarity and Renormalizability in Lifshitz Scalar Theory

We study unitarity and renormalizability in the Lifshitz scalar field theory, which is characterized by an anisotropic scaling between the space and time directions. Without the Lorentz symmetry, both the unitarity and the renormalizability conditions are modified from those in relativistic theories. We show that for renormalizability, an extended version of the power counting condition is required in addition to the conventional one. The unitarity bound for S-matrix elements also gives stronger constraints on interaction terms because of the reference frame dependence of scattering amplitudes. We prove that both unitarity and renormalizability require identical conditions as in the case of conventional relativistic theories.

Is cosmological constant screened in Liouville gravity with matter?

There has been a proposal that infrared quantum effects of massless interacting field theories in de-Sitter space may provide time-dependent screening of the cosmological constant. As a concrete model of the proposal, we study the three loop corrections to the energy-momentum tensor of massless $λϕ^4$ theory in the background of classical Liouville gravity in $D=2$ dimensional de-Sitter space. We find that the cosmological constant is screened in sharp contrast to the massless $λϕ^4$ theory in $D=4$ dimensions due to the sign difference between the cosmological constant of the Liouville gravity and that of the Einstein gravity. To argue for the robustness of our prediction, we introduce the concept of time-dependent infrared counter-terms and examine if they recover the de-Sitter invariance in the $λϕ^4$ theory in comparison with the Sine-Gordon model where it was possible.

Radion Inflation in Higher-Dimensional Gravity Theory

We study a radion model for inflation and density perturbation identifying the scalar field arising from the five-dimensional gravity on $M_4 x S^1$ with the inflaton. The inflaton potential arising from 5D graviton and matter one-loop effects is shown to possess the desirable slow-roll property. This radion model contains only a small number of parameters and there is an ample parameter region which reproduces (without fine-tuning) all precision astrophysical data.

Gauge-Higgs Unification In Spontaneously Created Fuzzy Extra Dimensions

We propose gauge-Higgs unification in fuzzy extra dimensions as a possible solution to the Higgs naturalness problem. In our approach, the fuzzy extra dimensions are created spontaneously as a vacuum solution of certain four-dimensional gauge theory. As an example, we construct a model which has a fuzzy torus as its vacuum. The Higgs field in our model is associated with the Wilson loop wrapped on the fuzzy torus. We show that the quadratic divergence in the mass of the Higgs field in the one-loop effective potential is absent. We then argue based on symmetries that the quantum corrections to the Higgs mass is suppressed including all loop contributions. We also consider a realization on the worldvolume theory of D3-branes probing $C^3/(Z_N \times Z_N)$ orbifold with discrete torsion.

Inflaton versus Curvaton in Higher Dimensional Gauge Theories

We construct a model of cosmological inflation and perturbation based on the higher-dimensional gauge theory. The inflaton and curvaton are the scalar fields arising from the extra space components of the gauge field living in more than four dimensions. We take the six-dimensional (6D) Yang-Mills theory compactified on $T^2$ as a toy model, and apply the one-loop effective potential of the inflaton and the curvaton to the curvaton scenario. We have found that the curvaton is subdominant for the linear curvature perturbation, but that a significant non-Gaussianity and a sizable tensor to scalar ratio are generated.

Konishi Anomaly and Central Extension in N=1/2 Supersymmetry

We show that the 4-dimensional N=1/2 supersymmetry algebra admits central extension. The central charges are supported by domain wall and the central charges are computed. We also determine the Konishi anomaly for N=1/2 supersymmetric gauge theory. Due to the new couplings in the Lagrangian, many terms appears. We show that these terms sum up to give the expected form for the holomorphic part of the Konishi anomaly. For the anti-holomorphic part, we give a simple argument that the naive generalization has to be modified. We suggest that the anti-holomorphic Konishi anomaly is given by a gauge invariant completion using open Wilson line.

Integrable Four-Fermi Models with a Boundary and Boson-Fermion Duality

Construction of integrable field theories in space with a boundary is extended to fermionic models. We obtain general forms of boundary interactions consistent with integrability of the massive Thirring model and study the duality equivalence of the MT model and the sine-Gordon model with boundary terms. We find a variety of integrable boundary interactions in the $O(3)$ Gross-Neveu model from the boundary supersymmetric sine-Gordon theory by using boson-fermion duality.

The Painleve Property, W Algebras and Toda Field Theories associated with Hyperbolic Kac-Moody Algebras

We show that the Painlevé test is useful not only for probing (non-)integrability but also for finding the values of spins of conserved currents (W currents) in Toda field theories (TFTs). In the case of the TFTs based on simple Lie algebras the locations of resonances are shown to give precisely the spins of conserved W currents. We apply this test to TFTs based on strictly hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebras and show that there exist no resonances other than that at n=2, which corresponds to the energy-momentum tensor, indicating their non-integrability. We also check by direct calculation that there are no spin-3 nor -4 conserved currents for all the hyperbolic TFTs in agreement with the result of our Painlevé analysis.
