Quadrupole transitions of $^{10}$C and their isospin symmetry with $^{10}$Be

We investigate the structures of $^{10}$C focusing on the quadrupole properties in comparison with the mirror nucleus $^{10}$Be. We describe $^{10}$C and $^{10}$Be in the variation of the multiple bases of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD), in which the multiple AMD bases are optimized simultaneously in the total-energy variation. In the monopole transitions, we confirm the isospin symmetry between $^{10}$C and $^{10}$Be by exchanging protons and neutrons. In the quadrupole transitions, most cases show larger values in $^{10}$C than those of $^{10}$Be, except for the transition of $2^+_1\to 0^+_1$. The transition of $2^+_1\to 0^+_1$ shows similar values in the two nuclei in spite of the different proton numbers, which agrees with the experimental situation as an anomaly. This relation comes from the small proton deformation in $^{10}$C due to its subclosed nature and the large proton deformation in $^{10}$Be due to two-$α$ clustering. This property can also be seen in the quadrupole moments of the two nuclei. In the neutron deformations of $^{10}$C and $^{10}$Be, the opposite tendency of protons is confirmed and these results ensure the isospin symmetry between the two nuclei. We also confirm the large quadrupole transitions between the elongated linear-chain states. It would be desirable for future experiments to investigate the present characteristics of the transitions in the two nuclei.

Shell and cluster structures in $^{20}$Ne in the variation of multiple bases of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics

We investigate the structures of $^{20}$Ne in the variation of the multiple bases of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD). In this method, the multiple AMD bases are superposed and optimized simultaneously in the total-energy variation. This scheme is beneficial for describing the various configurations in $^{20}$Ne. In the results, we confirm the shell and cluster structures in the $K^π=0^+_{1-4}$ bands, such as the deformed states in the $K^π=0^+_{1,4}$ bands with the $α$ cluster development, and the spherical shell-like states in the $K^π=0^+_2$ band, the latter of which is difficult to describe in the previous AMD calculations imposing the quadrupole deformation. We evaluate the monopole and quadrupole transitions in these states. The negative parity states of $^{20}$Ne with $K^π=0^-$ and $2^-$ are discussed in relation to the shell and cluster structures. As a result, six kinds of the $K^π$ bands in $^{20}$Ne are described comprehensively in the microscopic framework of nuclei.

Possible interpretation of the complex expectation values associated with resonances

We propose a possible scheme to interpret the complex expectation values associated with resonances having the complex eigenenergies. Using the Green's function for resonances, the expectation value is basically described by the Breit-Wigner distribution as a function of the real excitation energy. In the expression of the complex expectation values for resonances, the real part brings the integral value of the distribution, while the imaginary part produces the deviation from the Breit-Wigner distribution, which explains a shift of the peak in the strength from the resonance energy. We apply the present scheme to the several nuclear resonances of $^{12}$C including the Hoyle state, and neutron/proton-rich nuclei of $^6$He, $^6$Be, $^8$He, and $^8$C. In these nuclei, many-body resonances are obtained as the complex-energy eigenstates under the correct boundary condition using the complex scaling method, and their nuclear radii are uniquely evaluated. We discuss the peculiar energy dependence of the strength function of the square radius for the resonances in these nuclei.

Modeling the electric dipole strength of neutron-rich $^8$He: Prediction of multineutron collective excitations

We investigate the multineutron excitations of neutron-rich $^8$He in the electric dipole strength using a $^4$He+$n$+$n$+$n$+$n$ five-body model. Many-body unbound states of $^8$He are obtained in the complex scaling method. We found that the different excitation modes coexist in the dipole strength below the excitation energy of 20 MeV. The strength below 10 MeV comes from the $^7$He+$n$ channel, indicating the sequential breakup of $^8$He via the $^7$He resonance to $^6$He+$n$+$n$. Above 10 MeV, the strength is obtained from many-body continuum states with strong configuration mixings, suggesting a new collective motion of four neutrons with the dipole oscillation against $^4$He.

New many-body method using cluster expansion diagrams with tensor-optimized antisymmetrized molecular dynamics

We propose a new many-body method based on the correlation functions, in which the multiple products of the correlation functions are expanded into the many-body diagrams using the cluster expansion method and every diagram is independently optimized in the total-energy variation. We apply this idea to the tensor-optimized antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (TOAMD) using the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction and show the results of the $s$-shell nuclei within the triple products of the correlation functions of tensor and central-types. We evaluate the effect of the independent optimization of the many-body diagrams on the solutions. It is found that the triple products provides the sizable effect in the present scheme, which results in the good reproduction of the total energy and the Hamiltonian components of nuclei with respect to the few-body calculations.

Role of unitary correlation operator on high-momentum antisymmetrized molecular dynamics using bare NN interaction for 3H and 4He

We extend the high-momentum antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (HMAMD) by incorporating the short-range part of the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM) as the variational method of finite nuclei. In this HMAMD+UCOM calculation of light nuclei, the HMAMD is mainly in charge of the tensor correlation with up to the four-body correlation, while the short-range correlation is further improved by using the UCOM. The binding energies of the 3H and 4He nuclei are calculated with this HMAMD+UCOM using the AV8' bare nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction. The different roles of the short-range and tensor correlations from the HMAMD and UCOM are analyzed in the numerical results. Compared with the previous calculations based on the different variational methods, this newly extended HMAMD+UCOM method can almost provide the consistent results with the ab initio results.

Evolution of clustering structure through the momentum distributions in $^{8-10}$Be isotopes

We investigate the evolution of clustering structure through the momentum distributions in the $^{8-10}$Be isotopes. The nucleon dynamics within the inter-cluster antisymmetrization are discussed via the momentum distribution of a Brink type $α$-$α$ wave function. For the state with a small $α$-$α$ distance, we observe a significant depression with a dip structure at zero-momentum and an enhanced tail at relatively higher momentum region. In addition, we find the "cluster structure" in the intrinsic frame of momentum space, which is complementary to its significant $α$-cluster dissolution in the coordinate space because of the strong antisymmetrization. For the physical $^{8-10}$Be isotopes, the Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-R{ö}pke (THSR) wave functions are adopted. The evolution from the dilute clustering state to the compact one is demonstrated by a successive depression at the zero-momentum of nucleon distribution for the two $α$-clusters within $^{8-10}$Be isotopes. For the compact $^{10}$Be nucleus, the momentum distribution of all nucleons shows significant depression at zero-momentum with a dip structure, which is found to be contributed by both the inter-cluster antisymmetrization and the $p$-orbit occupation of the valence neutrons. This study proposes a new window for the investigations of the $α$-clustering effects via the low-momentum components of nuclei, which is expected to be extended to the heavier nuclear clustering states.

High-momentum components in the $^4$He nucleus caused by inter-nucleon correlations

High-momentum components of nuclei are essential for understanding the underlying inter-nucleon correlations in nuclei. We perform the comprehensive analysis for the origin of the high-momentum components of $^4$He in the framework of Tensor-optimized High-momentum Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics (TO-HMAMD), which is a completely variational approach as an $ab$ $initio$ theory starting from the bare nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interaction. The analytical derivations are provided for the nucleon momentum distribution of the Antisymmetrized Momentum Dynamics (AMD) wave functions, with subtraction of center-of-mass motion. The nucleon momentum distribution for $^4$He is calculated by applying a new expansion technique to our $ab$ $initio$ wave function, and agrees with the values extracted from experimental data up to the high-momentum region. Fine-grained analysis is performed for the high-momentum components in $^4$He with respect to different nucleon correlations. Contributions from tensor, central with short-range, and many-body correlations are extracted from the nucleon momentum distributions. The manifestation of tensor correlation around 2 fm$^{-1}$ region is explicitly confirmed by comparing the momentum distributions predicted using different types of $NN$ interactions with and without the tensor force.

Photodisintegration cross section of $^9$Be up to 16 MeV in the $α$ + $α$ + n three-body model

The photodisintegration of $^9$Be in the energy region lower than $E_γ= 16$ MeV is investigated by using the $α$~+~$α$~+~$n$ three-body model and the complex scaling method. The cross section exhibits two aspects in the different two energy regions. In the low energy region up to $E_γ= 6$ MeV, the cross section is explained by the transition strengths into the excited resonant states of $^9$Be, while the dipole transition into the non-resonant continuum states of $^8$Be(2$^+$)~+~$n$ dominates the cross section in the energy region of $6 \le E_γ\le 16$ MeV. Furthermore, it is shown that the dipole strength at $E_γ\sim 8$ MeV is understood to be caused by the single-neutron excitation from the $^8$Be(2$^+$)~$\otimes$~$νp_{3/2}$ configuration in the ground state.

Application of a coupled-channel Complex Scaling Method with Feshbach projection to the $K^-pp$ system

Kaonic nuclei (nuclear system with anti-kaons) have been an interesting subject in hadron and strange nuclear physics, because the strong attraction between anti-kaon and nucleon might bring exotic properties to that system. In this article, we investigate $K^-pp$ as a prototype of kaonic nuclei. Here, $K^-pp$ is a three-body resonant state in the $\bar{K}NN$-$πYN$ coupled channels. ($Y$=$Λ$, $Σ$) To treat resonant states in a coupled-channel system properly, we propose newly a coupled-channel complex scaling method combined with the Feshbach projection (ccCSM+Feshbach method). In this method, the Feshbach projection is realized with help of so-called the extended closure relation held in the complex scaling method, and a complicated coupled-channel problem is reduced to a simple single-channel problem which one can treat easily. First, we confirm that the ccCSM+Feshbach method completely reproduces results of a full coupled-channel calculation in case of two-body $\bar{K}N$-$πY$ system. We then proceed to study of three-body $\bar{K}NN$-$πYN$ system, and successfully find solutions of the $K^-pp$ resonance by imposing self-consistency for the complex $\bar{K}N$ energy. Obtained binding energy of $K^-pp$ is well converged around 27 MeV, with an energy-dependent $\bar{K}N$(-$πY$) potential based on the chiral SU(3) theory, independently of ansatz for the self-consistency. This binding energy is small as ones reported in earlier studies based on chiral models. The decay width of $K^-pp$ strongly depends on the ansatz. We calculate also the correlation density of $NN$ and $\bar{K}N$ pairs by using the obtained complex-scaled wave function of the $K^-pp$ resonance. Effect of the repulsive core of $NN$ potential and survival of $Λ^*$ resonance are confirmed.

Investigation of $K^{bar}NN$ resonances with a coupled-channel Complex Scaling Method + Feshbach projection

We have investigated a prototype of kaonic nuclei, "$K^-pp$", with a coupled-channel Complex Scaling Method (ccCSM). Combining the ccCSM with Feshbach projection method, we can handle a coupled-channel problem effectively as a single-channel problem. By using an energy-dependent chiral SU(3)-based $\bar{K}N$ potential, the $K^-pp$ ($J^π=0^-$ and $T=1/2$) is obtained to be shallowly bound with the binding energy of 20-30 MeV. The mesonic decay width depends on the interaction parameters and ansatz; the decay width is ranging from 20 to 65 MeV. In case of $J^π=1^-$ state, no three-body $\bar{K}NN$ resonant states are found.

The virtual-state character of the {9}^Be 1/2^+ state in the {9}^Be(γ,n){8}^Be reaction

We study the character of the first excited 1/2^{+} state of {9}^Be, which is observed as a low-lying sharp peak in the cross section of 9^Be(γ,n)2α just above the {8}^Be+n threshold. Using the α+α+n three-body model, we describe the ground and excited unbound states of {9}^Be above the α+α+n threshold. Applying the complex scaling method to the three-body model, we find no 1/2^{+} resonant solutions, while the low-lying peak in the photodisintegration cross section is reproduced in the present calculation. It is found that the low-lying peak is dominantly explained by the 8^Be+n component. Furthermore, using the analytical continuation of the coupling constant of the three-body interaction for the α+α+n system, we discuss the virtual-state character of the 1/2^{+} state.

Decomposition of scattering phase shifts and reaction cross sections using the complex scaling method

We apply the complex scaling method to the calculation of scattering phase shifts and extract the contributions of resonances in a phase shift and a cross section. The decomposition of the phase shift is shown to be useful to understand the roles of resonant and non-resonant continuum states. As examples, we apply this method to several two-body systems: (i) a schematic model with the Gyarmati potential which produces many resonances, (ii) the alpha-alpha system which has a Coulomb barrier potential in addition to an attractive nuclear interaction, and (iii) the alpha-n system which has no barrier potential. Using different kinds of potentials, we discuss the reliability of this method to investigate the resonance structure in the phase shifts and cross sections.

Double-pole nature of $Λ(1405)$ studied with coupled-channel complex scaling method using complex-range Gaussian basis

The excited hyperon $Λ(1405)$ is the important building block for kaonic nuclei which are nuclear many-body system with anti-kaons. We have been investigating the $Λ(1405)$ resonance with the coupled-channel Complex Scaling Method (ccCSM) in which the $Λ(1405)$ is treated as a hadron-molecular state of a $\bar{K}N$-$πΣ$ coupled system. We use a $\bar{K}N$(-$πY$) potential based on the chiral SU(3) theory. In this article, we report the double-pole nature of the $Λ(1405)$, which is a characteristic property predicted by many studies with chiral SU(3)-based models. With the help of the complex-range Gaussian basis in ccCSM, we have found successfully another pole besides a pole near the $\bar{K}N$ threshold (called higher pole) which was found in our previous work with the real-range Gaussian basis. The new pole (called lower pole) is found far below $\bar{K}N$ threshold: $(M, -Γ/2)=(1395, -138)$ MeV when $f_π=110$ MeV. In spite of so broad width of the lower-pole state, the state is clearly identified with good separation from continuum states, since the oscillatory behavior of the continuum states is improved owing to the complex-range Gaussian basis. Analyzing the ccCSM wave function of the lower pole, we have revealed explicitly that the lower-pole state is dominated by the $πΣ$ component rather than the $\bar{K}N$ component. We have confirmed that the ccCSM wave function is correctly connected to the asymptotic form of the resonance wave function. We have estimated the meson-baryon mean distance for the lower-pole state as well as for the higher-pole state. In addition, we have investigated the origin of the appearance of the lower pole. The lower pole is confirmed to be generated by the energy dependence attributed to the chiral dynamics, by comparing the result of an energy-independent potential.

Mirror symmetry breaking in He isotopes and their mirror nuclei

We study the mirror symmetry breaking of $^6$He-$^6$Be and $^8$He-$^8$C using the $^4$He + $X$N ($X$=2, 4) cluster model. The many-body resonances are treated for the correct boundary condition using the complex scaling method. We find that the ground state radius of $^8$C is larger than that of $^8$He due to the Coulomb repulsion in $^8$C. On the other hand, the $0^+_2$ resonances of the two nuclei exhibit the inverse relation; the $^8$C radius is smaller than the $^8$He radius. This is due to the Coulomb barrier of the valence protons around the $^4$He cluster core in $^8$C, which breaks the mirror symmetry of the radius in the two nuclei. A similar variation in the radius is obtained in the mirror nuclei, $^6$He and $^6$Be. A very large spatial extension of valence nucleons is observed in the $0^+_2$ states of $^8$He and $^8$C. This property is related to the dominance of the $(p_{3/2})^2(p_{1/2})^2$ configuration for four valence nucleons, which is understood from the reduction in the strength of the couplings to other configurations by involving the spatially extended components of valence nucleons.

Recent development of complex scaling method for many-body resonances and continua in light nuclei

The complex scaling method (CSM) is a useful similarity transformation of the Schrödinger equation, in which bound-state spectra are not changed but continuum spectra are separated into resonant and non-resonant continuum ones. Because the asymptotic wave functions of the separated resonant states are regularized by the CSM, many-body resonances can be obtained by solving an eigenvalue problem with the $L^2$ basis functions. Applying this method to a system consisting of a core and valence nucleons, we investigate many-body resonant states in weakly bound nuclei very far from the stability lines. Non-resonant continuum states are also obtained with the discretized eigenvalues on the rotated branch cuts. Using these complex eigenvalues and eigenstates in CSM, we construct the extended completeness relations and Green's functions to calculate strength functions and breakup cross sections. Various kinds of theoretical calculations and comparisons with experimental data are presented.

Shell and alpha cluster structures in 8Be with tensor-optimized shell model

We study the shell and alpha cluster structures in the ground and excited states of 8Be in terms of the tensor-optimized shell model (TOSM). In TOSM, the tensor correlation is optimized in the full space of 2p2h configurations involving high-momentum components. The short-range correlation is treated with the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM). We use the effective interaction based on the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction AV8$^\prime$. The 8Be states consist of two groups of ground band states and highly excited states with the isospin T=0 and T=1. It is found that the tensor contributions of the ground band states are stronger than the highly excited states and that the kinetic energies and the central contributions of the ground band states are almost twice the 4He values. These features suggest two-alpha clustering for the ground band states in 8Be. We also estimate the correlation energy of the $α$ clustering using the alpha cluster model. In the highly excited states, the calculated spectrum in TOSM reproduces the experimental level order and the relative energies of each level. This agreement suggests that those states can be interpreted as shell-like states. The level order is found to be sensitive to the presence of the tensor force in comparison with the results using the Minnesota effective interaction without the tensor force. It is also found that the tensor contributions in the T=0 states are stronger than the T=1 states, which is consistent with the state dependence of the tensor force.

Comprehensive application of a coupled-channel complex scaling method to the KbarN-piY system

We have applied the coupled-channel complex scaling method (ccCSM) to K^{bar}N-πY system. One advantage of ccCSM is that resonant states as well as scattering states can be treated in the same framework. For the interactions in the system, we have constructed a meson-baryon potential-matrix by basing on the chiral SU(3) theory and respecting the K^{bar}N scattering length obtained in the Martin's analysis. For future purpose to apply it more complicated system such as K^{bar}NN, we adopt a local Gaussian form in the r-space. We have investigated both the non-relativistic (NR) and the semi-relativistic (SR) kinematics. In the SR case, two types of the potentials are obtained. To test the constructed potentials, we have calculated scattering amplitudes and searched resonances. One resonance pole, corresponding to Λ(1405), is found in isospin I=0 system around (1419, -20) MeV ((1425, -25) or (1419, -13) MeV) on complex-energy plane with the NR (SR) kinematics. Mean distance between meson and baryon in the resonant state is 1.3 - i0.3 fm (1.2 - i0.5 fm) for NR (SR), in which the states are treated as Gamow states. In addition, we have observed a signature of another pole in lower-energy region involving large decay width, although they are unstable against the change of scaling angle θ. This may correspond to the lower pole of the double-pole of Λ(1405) discussed in literature to date.

Coulomb breakup reactions of $^{11}$Li in the coupled-channel $^9$Li~+~$n$~+~$n$ three-body model

We investigate the three-body Coulomb breakup of a two-neutron halo nucleus $^{11}$Li. We use the coupled-channel $^9$Li + $n$ + $n$ three-body model, which includes the coupling between last neutron states and the various $2p$-$2h$ configurations in $^9$Li due to the tensor and pairing correlations. The three-body scattering states of $^{11}$Li are described by using the combined methods of the complex scaling and the Lippmann-Schwinger equation. The calculated breakup cross section successfully reproduces the experiments. The large mixing of the s-state in the halo ground state of $^{11}$Li is shown to play an important role in explanation of shape and strength of the breakup cross section. In addition, we predict the invariant mass spectra for binary subsystems of $^{11}$Li. It is found that the two kinds of virtual s-states of $^9$Li-$n$ and $n$-$n$ systems in the final three-body states of $^{11}$Li largely contribute to make low-lying peaks in the invariant mass spectra. On the other hand, in the present analysis, it is suggested that the contributions of the p-wave resonances of $^{10}$Li is hardly confirmed in the spectra.

Five-body resonances of 8C using the complex scaling method

We study the resonance spectroscopy of the proton-rich nucleus 8C in the alpha+p+p+p+p cluster model. Many-body resonances are treated on the correct boundary condition as the Gamow states using the complex scaling method. We obtain the ground state of 8C as a five-body resonance for the first time, which has dominantly the sub-closed (p_{3/2})^4 configuration and agrees with the recent experiment for energy and decay width. We predict the second 0+ state with the excitation energy of 5.6 MeV, which corresponds to the $2p2h$ state from the ground state. We evaluate the occupation numbers of four valence-protons in the 8C states and also the J^πdistribution of proton-pair numbers of the two 0+ states of 8C. The ground state involves a large amount of the 2+ proton-pair fraction, while the excited 0+_2 state almost consists of two of the 0+ proton pairs, which can be understood from the (p_{3/2})^2(p_{1/2})^2 configuration. We also discuss the mirror symmetry between 8C and 8He with an alpha+four nucleon picture. It is found that the 0+ states retain the mirror symmetry well for the configuration properties of two nuclei.

Interplay between the 0+_2 resonance and the nonresonant continuum of the drip-line two-neutron halo nucleus 22C

The breakup cross section (BUX) of 22C by 12C at 250 MeV/nucleon is evaluated by the continuum-discretized coupled-channels method incorporating the cluster-orbital shell model (COSM) wave functions. Contributions of the low-lying 0+_2 and 2+_1 resonances predicted by COSM to the BUX are investigated. The 2+_1 resonance gives a narrow peak in the BUX, as in usual resonant reactions, whereas the 0+_2 resonant cross section has a peculiar shape due to the coupling to the nonresonant continuum, i.e., the Fano effect. By changing the scattering angle of 22C after the breakup, a variety of shapes of the 0+_2 resonant cross sections is obtained. Mechanism of the appearance of the sizable Fano effect in the breakup of 22C is discussed.

Tensor-optimized shell model for the Li isotopes with a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction

We study the Li isotopes systematically in terms of the tensor-optimized shell model (TOSM) by using a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction as the AV8' interaction. The short-range correlation is treated in the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM). Using the TOSM+UCOM approach, we investigate the role of the tensor force on each spectrum of the Li isotopes. It is found that the tensor force produces quite a characteristic effect on various states in each spectrum and those spectra are affected considerably by the tensor force. The energy difference between the spin-orbit partner, the p1/2 and p3/2 orbits of the last neutron, in 5Li is caused by opposite roles of the tensor correlation. In 6Li, the spin-triplet state in the LS coupling configuration is favored energetically by the tensor force in comparison with jj coupling shell model states. In 7,8,9Li, the low-lying states containing extra neutrons in the p3/2 orbit are favored energetically due to the large tensor contribution to allow the excitation from the 0s orbit to the p1/2 orbit by the tensor force. Those three nuclei show the jj coupling character in their ground states which is different from 6Li.

Four-body resonances of 7B using the complex scaling method

We study the resonance spectroscopy of the proton-rich nucleus 7B in the 4He+p+p+p cluster model. Many-body resonances are treated on the correct boundary condition as the Gamow states using the complex scaling method. We predict five resonances of 7B and evaluate the spectroscopic factors of the 6Be-p components. The importance of the 6Be(2+)-p component is shown in several states of 7B, which is a common feature of 7He, a mirror nucleus of 7B. For only the ground state of 7B, the mixing of 6Be(2+) state is larger than that of 6He(2+) in 7He, which indicates the breaking of the mirror symmetry. This is caused by the small energy difference between 7B and the excited 6Be(2+) state, whose origin is the Coulomb repulsion.

Role of the tensor interaction in He isotopes with a tensor-optimized shell model

We studied the role of the tensor interaction in He isotopes systematically on the basis of the tensor-optimized shell model (TOSM). We use a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction AV8 obtained from nucleon-nucleon scattering data. The short-range correlation is treated in the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM). Using the TOSM+UCOM approach, we investigate the role of tensor interaction on each spectrum in He isotopes. It is found that the tensor interaction enhances the LS splitting energy observed in 5He, in which the p1/2 and p3/2 orbits play different roles on the tensor correlation. In {6,7,8}He, the low-lying states containing extra neutrons in the p3/2 orbit gain the tensor contribution. On the other hand, the excited states containing extra neutrons in the p1/2 orbit lose the tensor contribution due to the Pauli-blocking effect with the 2p2h states in the 4He core configuration.

Tensor-optimized few-body model for s-shell nuclei

As a new scheme of treating the tensor interaction of the nucleon-nucleon interaction, there is a proposal of a tensor-optimized shell-model (TOSM) for the study of medium and heavy nuclei. The TOSM includes the deuteron-like tensor correlation and provides quite a good reproduction of the binding energy and the size of $^4$He as compared with rigorous few body calculations. We propose a tensor-optimized few-body model (TOFM) using the spirit of the TOSM approximation in the few body framework with bare nucleon-nucleon interaction. We find that the TOFM can account for the strength of the tensor interaction very well and almost reproduces the full energy and various energy components as compared with rigorous few body calculations.

Di-neutron clustering and deuteron-like tensor correlation in nuclear structure focusing on 11Li

11Li is a Borromean nucleus, where two out of three objects as 9Li + n and two neutrons independently do not form bound systems. Two neutrons should form a di-neutron cluster in the nuclear field generated by the 9Li core nucleus. We treat di-neutron clustering by solving the two neutron relative wave function precisely by using the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction so that the spatial clustering structure is obtained quantitatively within the whole 11Li nucleus. This di-neutron clustering is an essential dynamics to form the halo structure by making a compact di-neutron cluster, which distributes loosely around the 9Li core. The di-neutron clustering is a new concept and is a general phenomenon in neutron skin and neutron halo nuclei. This quantitative description of di-neutron clustering has made it necessary to consider another important deuteron-like tensor correlation, which is caused by strong tensor interaction in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. The tensor interaction originates from pion exchange and known to provide large attraction to form the 4He nucleus. The unique feature of the tensor correlation is to make highly correlated deuteron-like excitation, which interferes with shell model like structure in a unique way. This dynamical effect removes the magic number effect and makes easy the participation of the s-wave neutrons. Hence, there are pairing and deuteron-like tensor correlations in addition to the mean field structure in 9Li. The combined system of two additional neutrons with the correlated 9Li provides the halo phenomenon, in which the di-neutron clustering develops with the help of large s-wave component caused by the deuteron-like tensor correlation. In this lecture note, we would like to introduce these two new concepts in a systematic manner and fill a gap between the halo phenomenon and the microscopic reason for this interesting phenomenon.

Five-body resonances of 8He using the complex scaling method

The 0+ states of 8He are studied in a five-body 4He+n+n+n+n cluster model. Many-body resonances are treated on the correct boundary condition as Gamow states using the complex scaling method. The 0+_2 state of 8He is predicted as a five-body resonance in the excitation energy of 6.3 MeV with a width of 3.2 MeV, which mainly has a (p_{3/2})^2(p_{1/2})^2 configuration. In this state, number of the 0+ neuron pair shows almost two, which is different from the ground state having a large amount of the 2+ pair component. The monopole transition of 8He from the ground state into the five-body unbound states is also evaluated. It is found that the 7He+n component mostly exhausts the strength, while the 0+_2 contribution is negligible. The final states are dominated by 6He+n+n, not 4He+n+n+n+n. The results indicate the sequential breakup process of 8He to 7He+n to 6He+n+n by the monopole excitation.

Resonances and continuum states of drip-line nuclei using the complex scaling method

Resonances and continuum states of He isotopes are investigated using the cluster orbital shell model (COSM) with the complex scaling method (CSM). We discuss the following subjects: 1) Spectroscopic factors of the unbound nucleus 7He into the 6He-n components and their relation to the one-neutron removal strengths of 7He. The importance of the 6He(2+) resonance is shown. 2) Structure of five-body 0+ resonance of 8He from the viewpoint of the two-neutron pair coupling. The monopole strengths into five-body unbound states are also investigated. It is found that the sequential breakup process of 8He \to 7He+n \to 6He+n+n is dominant in the monopole excitation, while the contribution of 8He(0+_2) is negligible.
