Introducing Dynamical Triangulations to the Type IIB Superstrings

In order to consider non-perturbative effects of superstrings, we try to apply dynamical triangulations to the type IIB superstrings. The discretized action is constructed from the type IIB matrix model proposed as a constructive definition of superstring theory. The action has the local N=2 supersymmetry explicitly, and has no extra fermionic degrees of freedom. We evaluate the partition function for some simple configurations and discuss constraints required from the finiteness of partition functions.

Phase Transition of 4D Simplicial Quantum Gravity with U(1) Gauge Field

The phase transition of 4D simplicial quantum gravity coupled to U(1) gauge fields is studied using Monte-Carlo simulations. The phase transition of the dynamical triangulation model with vector field ($N_{V}=1$) is smooth as compared with the pure gravity($N_{V}=0$). The node susceptibility ($χ$) is studied in the finite size scaling method. At the critical point, the node distribution has a sharp peak in contrast to the double peak in the pure gravity. From the numerical results, we expect that 4D simplicial quantum gravity with U(1) vector fields has higher order phase transition than 1st order, which means the possibility to take the continuum limit at the critical point.

Classical Solution of Two Dimensional $R^2$-Gravity and Cross-Over Phenomenon

Two dimensional quantum R$^2$-gravity and its phase structure are examined in the semiclassical approach and compared with the results of the numerical simulation. Three phases are succinctly characterized by the effective action. A classical solution of R$^2$-Liouville equation is obtained by use of the solution of the ordinary Liouville equation. The partition function is obtained analytically. A toatal derivative term (surface term) plays an important role there. It is shown that the classical solution can sufficiently account for the cross-over transition of the surface property seen in the numerical simulation.

Complex Structures Defined on Dynamically Triangulated Surfaces

A method to define the complex structure and separate the conformal mode is proposed for a surface constructed by two-dimensional dynamical triangulation. Applications are made for surfaces coupled to matter fields such as $n$ scalar fields ($n=0,1$ and $4$) and $m$ Ising spins ($m=1$ and $3$). We observe a well-defined complex structure for cases when the matter central charges are less than and equal to one, while it becomes unstable beyond $c=1$. This can be regarded as the transition expected in analytic theories.
