Automated one-loop calculations with GoSam

In this talk, the program package GOSAM is presented, which can be used for the automated calculation of one-loop amplitudes for multi-particle processes. The integrands are generated in terms of Feynman diagrams and can be reduced by d-dimensional integrand-level decomposition, or tensor reduction, or a combination of both. Through various examples we show that GOSAM can produce one-loop amplitudes for both QCD and electroweak theory; model files for theories Beyond the Standard Model can be linked as well.

NLO QCD corrections to the production of W+ W- plus two jets at the LHC

We present the full NLO QCD corrections to the production of a W^+W^- pair in association with two jets in hadronic collisions, which is an important background to New Physics and Higgs boson searches. We include leptonic decays of the W-bosons with full spin correlations. We find NLO corrections of the order of 10% for standard cuts at the LHC. The scale dependence is considerably reduced by the NLO corrections.

The SM and NLO Multileg and SM MC Working Groups: Summary Report

The 2011 Les Houches workshop was the first to confront LHC data. In the two years since the previous workshop there have been significant advances in both soft and hard QCD, particularly in the areas of multi-leg NLO calculations, the inclusion of those NLO calculations into parton shower Monte Carlos, and the tuning of the non-perturbative parameters of those Monte Carlos. These proceedings describe the theoretical advances that have taken place, the impact of the early LHC data, and the areas for future development.

Golem95C: A library for one-loop integrals with complex masses

We present a program for the numerical evaluation of scalar integrals and tensor form factors entering the calculation of one-loop amplitudes which supports the use of complex masses in the loop integrals. The program is built on an earlier version of the golem95 library, which performs the reduction to a certain set of basis integrals using a formalism where inverse Gram determinants can be avoided. It can be used to calculate one-loop amplitudes with arbitrary masses in an algebraic approach as well as in the context of a unitarity-inspired numerical reconstruction of the integrand.

GoSam: A program for automated one-loop Calculations

The program package GoSam is presented which aims at the automated calculation of one-loop amplitudes for multi-particle processes. The amplitudes are generated in terms of Feynman diagrams and can be reduced using either D-dimensional integrand-level decomposition or tensor reduction, or a combination of both. GoSam can be used to calculate one-loop corrections to both QCD and electroweak theory, and model files for theories Beyond the Standard Model can be linked as well. A standard interface to programs calculating real radiation is also included. The flexibility of the program is demonstrated by various examples.

A proposal for a standard interface between Monte Carlo tools and one-loop programs

Many highly developed Monte Carlo tools for the evaluation of cross sections based on tree matrix elements exist and are used by experimental collaborations in high energy physics. As the evaluation of one-loop matrix elements has recently been undergoing enormous progress, the combination of one-loop matrix elements with existing Monte Carlo tools is on the horizon. This would lead to phenomenological predictions at the next-to-leading order level. This note summarises the discussion of the next-to-leading order multi-leg (NLM) working group on this issue which has been taking place during the workshop on Physics at TeV colliders at Les Houches, France, in June 2009. The result is a proposal for a standard interface between Monte Carlo tools and one-loop matrix element programs.

Scattering AMplitudes from Unitarity-based Reduction Algorithm at the Integrand-level

SAMURAI is a tool for the automated numerical evaluation of one-loop corrections to any scattering amplitudes within the dimensional-regularization scheme. It is based on the decomposition of the integrand according to the OPP-approach, extended to accommodate an implementation of the generalized d-dimensional unitarity-cuts technique, and uses a polynomial interpolation exploiting the Discrete Fourier Transform. SAMURAI can process integrands written either as numerator of Feynman diagrams or as product of tree-level amplitudes. We discuss some applications, among which the 6- and 8-photon scattering in QED, and the 6-quark scattering in QCD. SAMURAI has been implemented as a Fortran90 library, publicly available, and it could be a useful module for the systematic evaluation of the virtual corrections oriented towards automating next-to-leading order calculations relevant for the LHC phenomenology.

Tensorial Reconstruction at the Integrand Level

We present a new approach to the reduction of one-loop amplitudes obtained by reconstructing the tensorial expression of the scattering amplitudes. The reconstruction is performed at the integrand level by means of a sampling in the integration momentum. There are several interesting applications of this novel method within existing techniques for the reduction of one-loop multi-leg amplitudes: to deal with numerically unstable points, such as in the vicinity of a vanishing Gram determinant; to allow for a sampling of the numerator function based on real values of the integration momentum; to optimize the numerical reduction in the case of long expressions for the numerator functions.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to pp --> b b_bar b b_bar + X at the LHC: the quark induced case

The production of two b-quark pairs is a prominent background for Higgs and New Physics searches in various extensions of the Standard Model. We present here the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the quark induced subprocess using the GOLEM approach for the virtual corrections. We show that our result considerably improves the prediction and conclude that the inclusion of next-to-leading order effects is indispensable for reliable studies of four b-quark observables in hadronic collisions.

Golem95: a numerical program to calculate one-loop tensor integrals with up to six external legs

We present a program for the numerical evaluation of form factors entering the calculation of one-loop amplitudes with up to six external legs. The program is written in Fortran95 and performs the reduction to a certain set of basis integrals numerically, using a formalism where inverse Gram determinants can be avoided. It can be used to calculate one-loop amplitudes with massless internal particles in a fast and numerically stable way.

Precise predictions for LHC using a GOLEM

In this talk we present recent next-to-leading order results relevant for LHC phenomenology obtained with the GOLEM method. After reviewing the status of this Feynman diagrammatic approach for multi-leg one-loop calculations we discuss three applications: the loop-induced process gg -> Z^*Z^* and the virtual corrections to the five and six point processes qq -> ZZg and u ubar -> s sbar c cbar. We demonstrate that our method leads to representations of such amplitudes which allow for efficient phase space integration. In this context we propose a reweighting technique of the leading order unweighted events by local K-factors.
