Fully polarized nonlinear Breit-Wheeler pair production in pulsed plane waves

Fully polarized nonlinear Breit-Wheeler pair production from a beam of polarized seed photons is investigated in pulsed plane-wave backgrounds. The particle (electron and positron) spin and photon polarization are comprehensively described with the theory of the density matrix. The compact expressions for the energy spectrum and spin polarization of the produced particles, depending on the initial polarization of the seed photon beam, are derived and discussed in both linearly and circularly polarized laser backgrounds. The numerical results suggest an appreciable improvement of the positron yield by orthogonalizing the photon polarization to the laser polarization, and the generation of a highly polarized positron beam from a beam of circularly polarized seed photons. The locally monochromatic approximation and the locally constant field approximation are derived and benchmarked with the full quantum electrodynamic calculations.

Toward the observation of interference effects in nonlinear Compton scattering

The photon spectrum from electrons scattering on multiple laser pulses exhibits interference effects not present for scattering on a single pulse. We investigate the conditions required for the experimental observation of these interference effects in electron-laser collisions, in particular analysing the roles of the detector resolution and the transverse divergence of the pump electron beam.

Enhanced correlation of electron-positron pair in the two and three dimensions

Early-time electron-positron correlation in vacuum pair-production in an external field is investigated. The entangled electron and positron wave functions are obtained analytically in the configuration and momentum spaces. It is shown that, relative to that of the one-dimensional theory, two- and three-dimensional calculations yield enhanced spatial correlation and broadened momentum spectrum. In fact, at early times the electron and positron almost coincide spatially. The correlation also depends on the direction of the applied field. For the spatial correlation, the transverse correlation is stronger than the longitudinal one.

QED cascade induced by high energy $γ$ photon in strong laser field

The QED cascade induced by the two counter-propagating lasers is studied. It is demonstrated that the probability of a seed-photon to create a pair is much larger than that of a seed-electron. By analyzing the dynamic characteristics of the electron and positron created by the seed-photon, it is found that the created particles are more probable to emit photons than the seed-electron. With these result, further more, we also demonstrate that the QED cascade can be easier to be triggered by the seed-photon than by the seed-electron with the same incident energy and the same laser.
