An $A_4$-Symmetric Double Seesaw for Neutrino Masses and Mixing in Light of JUNO results

We discuss a double seesaw mechanism for generating light neutrino masses within the Standard Model extensions that include both right-handed neutrinos and extra gauge-singlet sterile fermions. The flavour structure of the double seesaw framework is invoked by an $A_4$ discrete symmetry which yields predictive textures for the Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_D$, the mixing matrix $M_{RS}$ connecting right-handed and sterile neutrinos, and the bare Majorana mass matrix $M_S$ for the sterile neutrinos. The interesting feature of the present framework is that the combination of the double seesaw mechanism and $A_4$ flavour alignments yields a leading-order TBM structure, corrected by a single rotation in the (1-3) sector. We also derive analytic expressions for the heavy sterile eigenvalues and for the resulting light neutrino masses, thereby clarifying the role of the symmetry in shaping the neutrino mass hierarchy. We further incorporate the most recent JUNO measurements, which improve the precision of the solar mixing angle $\sin^2θ_{12} \simeq 0.31$, along with updated constraints on $\sin^2θ_{13}$. We show that these results significantly restrict the allowed parameter space of the model. In particular, the observed value of $\sin^2θ_{12}$ constrains the magnitude of the (1--3) rotation and the phases associated with the $A_4$ flavon couplings, while the value of $\sin^2θ_{13}$ sharpens these restrictions further. Overall, the interplay between double seesaw dynamics, $A_4$ flavour symmetry, and the recent JUNO constraints yields a highly predictive framework for neutrino masses and mixings, offering a coherent explanation for the generation of light neutrino masses and testable predictions for future experiments.

CP violating signal at DUNE in presence of nonstandard interactions and the role of second oscillation maxima

Neutrino oscillation among the three active neutrino flavors is well established and supported by experiments at diverse length scales and energy scales. It may be noted that five of the neutrino oscillation parameters in the three-flavor paradigm, namely the three mixing angles ($θ_{12}$, $θ_{13}$, $θ_{23}$) and the two mass-squared differences ($Δm^{2}_{21}$, $Δm^{2}_{31}$) are measured to a reasonable degree of precision. The three unknowns that are expected to be deciphered in the near future are the Dirac CP phase, $δ$, the neutrino mass ordering, and the octant of $θ_{23}$. The next generation of long baseline experiments, such as the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), aims to resolve these unanswered questions. In the present work, by considering DUNE as an example, we assess the ability of long baseline experiments to extricate the intrinsic contribution from observables related to CP violation in scenarios considering SI and beyond. Additionally, we analyze the role of the second oscillation maximum in addressing the above mentioned questions. By carrying out event level and statistical analyses, we assess the potential of DUNE to probe CP violation effects both within and beyond the standard paradigm.

Effect of right-handed currents and dark side of the solar neutrino parameter space to Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay

The Majorana nature of neutrinos will be the confirmed by the observation of the rare process called as neutrinoless double beta decay process, i.e. the simultaneous decay of two neutrons in the nucleus of an isotope (A, Z) into two protons and two electrons without the emission of any neutrinos i.e, $(A, Z) \to (A, Z + 2) + 2 e^-$. The non-observation of such a decay so far has been interpreted as a lower limit on the half life of the isotope under investigation, which puts severe constraints on any new physics giving rise to LNV in the electron sector. On the other hand, the standard mechanism with normal ordering and inverted ordering can not saturate the present experimental limit while quasi-degenerate light neutrinos are strongly disfavored by the upper limits on the sum of light neutrino masses from cosmological data sets. In this work, we show that how dark side of the solar neutrino parameter space and effect of new physics contributions from right-handed currents can saturate the experimental limit provided by KamLAND-Zen and GERDA.

LHC signatures of sterile neutrinos in a minimal radiative extended seesaw framework

The presence of small neutrino masses and flavour mixings can be accounted for naturally in various models about extensions of the standard model, particularly in the seesaw mechanism models. In this work, we present a minimally extended seesaw framework with two right-handed neutrinos, where the active neutrino masses are derived in the radiative regime. Using the framework it can be shown that within certain mass limits, the light neutrino mass term can approach a form that is similar to its form under the type-I seesaw mechanism. Apart from this, we show that the decay width of right-handed neutrinos (produced through the decay of W boson in a particle collider) is short enough to cause a sufficiently long lifetime for the particles, thus ensuring an observable displacement in the LHC between the production and decay vertices. We comment on the fact that these displaced vertex signatures thus can serve as a means to verify the existence of these right-handed neutrinos in future experiments. Lastly, we line up the possibility of our future work where the vertex signatures of particles greater than the mass of W boson can be worked upon.

MSW effect with quark matter: Neutron Star as a case study

With the recent findings from various astrophysical results hinting towards possible existence of strange quark matters with the baryonic resonances such as $Λ^0, Σ^0, Ξ, Ω$ in the core of neutron stars, we investigate the MSW effect, in general, in quark matter. We find that the resonance condition for the complete conversion of down-quark to strange quark requires estremely large matter density ($ρ_u \simeq 10^{5}\,\mbox{fm}^{-3} $). Nonetheless the neutron stars provide a best condition for the conversion to be statistically significant which is of the same order as is expected from imposing charge neutrality condition. This has a possibility of resolving the hyperon puzzle as well as the equation of state for dense baryonic matter.

Numerically analyzing self-interacting dark matter

We consider the scenario of self-interacting dark matter(SIDM) with a light mediator in a model-independent way, which can alleviate two long-standing issues of the small scale cosmology namely cusp vs. core and too-big-to-fail. A Yukawa potential is chosen to achieve mediator exchange between DM particles as part of their self-interactions. The dynamics of self-interacting transfer cross-section are studied for a range of mediator mass($m_Z'$). Also, a relationship is established between the cross-section and DM particles' relative velocity, which ensures the solution to the DM crisis at small scales. Our obtained numerical results are efficient compared to the earlier works in the context that a lesser number of $\ell$ modes have been used by us to achieve the same level of accuracy in the cross-section calculations. For a better understanding of the SIDM parameter space, we perform an analytical analysis on the dependence of transfer cross-section over the other important SIDM parameters using a Hulthén potential which is similar in its behavior to Yukawa potential. A detailed evolution of particle dynamics using the Boltzmann equation and the effect of Sommerfeld enhancement on such calculations has also been studied here. We also provide a minimal anomaly-free leptophilic extension of the standard model, that can incorporate SIDM and its mediator candidate in the framework.

Study of matter effects in the presence of sterile neutrino using OMSD approximation

We discuss the transition and survival probabilities in $3+1$ neutrino flavor mixing scenario in presence of matter effects. We adopt the well-known OMSD(One Mass Scale Dominance) approximation to carry out our analysis. After that we perform series expansion about $\sin θ_{13}$ term upto second order. We find that our results are consistent with the already existing $α- \sin θ_{13}$ approximated relations in the limit of vanishing $α$ and phases involving sterile neutrinos. We also figure out that survival transition probability becomes independent of the fundamental and sterile CP phases under our formalism. Hence, it provides us a new way to look at only matter effects contribution to oscillation probability. Also, the transition probability at the same time gives an independent study of CP-violation arising from the sterile phases, in the vicinity of fundamental CP violation phase. We provide the relation for the atmospheric probability in the presence of matter by performing the series expansion upto linear order about parameter $A (= 2EV)$, with V being the effective matter potential under OMSD approximation.

Zoom in muon survival probability with sterile neutrino for CP and T-violation

We present the approximated analytic expressions for the muon survival probability in a $3+1$ mixing scenario in the presence of matter effect using the S-matrix formalism. We find that all the individual terms contributing to the muon survival probability can significantly reduce to just three contributions. The leading order contribution comes from the three flavor muon survival probability followed by the two sub-leading contributions arising from active-sterile mixing. Furthermore, to more simplify the results we adopt the well known series expansion relations about mass-hierarchy parameter $α= Δm^2_{21} / Δm^2_{31}$ and the mixing angle $\sin θ_{13}$ in the vanishing limit of $α^2$. We discuss the relevance of muon survival probability to probe the CP and T-violation studies coming from the new physics. We also compare the analytic relation between vacuum and matter contributions to the muon survival probability at the leading order. Finally, we comment on the probability behavior at the various long baselines relevant to understand the atmospheric-neutrino sector and to resolve the existing mass-hierarchy problem.

$A_4$ realization of left-right symmetric linear seesaw

We explore an $A_4$-symmetric flavor based left-right symmetric model with linear seesaw mechanism and study the associated neutrino phenomenology. The framework offers the advantage of studying neutrino mass, non-unitarity effects in lepton sector, lepton flavour violation and CP violation. The fermion content of the model includes usual quarks, leptons along with additional sterile fermion per generation while the scalar content includes Higgs doublets and scalar bidoublet. We study analytically as well as numerically the correlation between different model parameters and their dependence on experimentally determined neutrino observables.

A comparative study of $0νββ$ decay in symmetric and asymmetric left-right model

We study the new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) in a TeV scale left-right model with spontaneous D-parity breaking mechanism where the values of the $SU(2)_L$ and $SU(2)_R$ gauge couplings, $g_L$ and $g_R$ are unequal. Neutrino mass is generated in the model via gauge extended inverse seesaw mechanism. We embed the model in a non-supersymmetric $SO(10)$ GUT with a purpose of quantifying the results due to the condition $g_{L} \neq g_{R}$. We compare the predicted numerical values of half life of $0νββ$ decay, effective Majorana mass parameter and other lepton number violating parameters for three different cases; (i) for manifest left-right symmetric model ($g_L = g_R$), (ii) for left-right model with spontaneous D parity breaking ($g_L \neq g_R$), (iii) for Pati-Salam symmetry with D parity breaking ($g_L \neq g_R$). We show how different contributions to $0νββ$ decay are suppressed or enhanced depending upon the values of the ratio $\frac{g_R}{g_L}$ that are predicted from successful gauge coupling unification.

Baryogenesis via Leptogenesis from Asymmetric Dark Matter and radiatively generated Neutrino mass

We propose an extension of the standard model (SM) by including a dark sector comprising of three generations of heavy right-handed neutrinos, a singlet scalar and a singlet Dirac fermion, where the latter two particles are stable and are viable candidates of dark matter (DM). In the early Universe, the CP-violating out-of-equilibrium decay of heavy right-handed neutrinos to singlet Dirac fermion and scalar in the dark sector generates a net DM asymmetry. The latter is then transported to the visible sector via a dimension eight operator which conserves $B-L$ symmetry and is in thermal equilibrium above the sphaleron decoupling temperature. An additional light singlet scalar is introduced which mixes with the SM Higgs and pave a path for annihilating the symmetric components of the DM candidates. Then we discuss the constraints on singlet-doublet Higgs mixing from invisible Higgs decay, signal strength at LHC and direct search of DM at terrestrial laboratories. At tree level the neutrinos are shown to be massless since the symmetry of dark sector forbids the interaction of right-handed neutrinos with the SM particles. However, at one loop level the neutrinos acquire sub-eV masses as required by the oscillation experiments.

Neutrino mass, mixing and muon $g-2$ explanation in $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ extension of left-right theory

We consider a gauged $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ extension of the left-right symmetric theory in order to simultaneously explain neutrino mass, mixing and the muon anomalous magnetic moment. We get sizeable contribution from the interaction of the new light gauge boson $Z_{μτ}$ of the $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ symmetry with muons which can individually satisfy the current bounds on muon $(g-2)$ anomaly ($Δa_μ$). The other positive contributions to $Δa_μ$ come from the interactions of singly charged gauge bosons $W_L$, $W_R$ with heavy neutral fermions and that of neutral CP-even scalars with muons. The interaction of $W_L$ with heavy neutrino is facilitated by inverse seesaw mechanism which allows large light-heavy neutrino mixing and explains neutrino mass in our model. CP-even scalars with mass around few hundreds GeV can also satisfy the entire current muon anomaly bound. The results show that the model gives a small but non-negligible contribution to $Δa_μ$ thereby eliminating the entire deviation in theoretical prediction and experimental result of muon $(g-2)$ anomaly. We have briefly presented a comparative study for symmetric and asymmetric left-right symmetric model in context of various contribution to $Δa_μ$. We also discuss how the generation of neutrino mass is affected when left-right symmetry breaks down to Standard Model symmetry via various choices of scalars.

Neutrino Phenomenology and Dark matter in an $A_4$ flavour extended B-L model

We present an $A_4$ flavor extended $\rm B-L$ model for realization of eV scale sterile neutrinos, motivated by the recent experimental hints from both particle physics and cosmology. The framework considered here is a gauged $\rm B-L$ extension of standard model without the introduction of right-handed neutrinos, where the gauge triangle anomalies are canceled with the inclusion of three exotic neutral fermions $N_{i}$ ($i=1,2,3$) with $\rm B-L$ charges $-4,-4$ and $5$. The usual Dirac Yukawa couplings between the SM neutrinos and the exotic fermions are absent and thus, the model allows natural realization of eV scale sterile-like neutrino and its mixing with standard model neutrinos by invoking $\rm A_4$ flavor symmetry. We demonstrate how the exact tri-bimaximal mixing pattern is perturbed due to active-sterile mixing by analyzing $1+3$ case in detail. We also show the implication of eV scale sterile-like neutrino on various observables in neutrino oscillation experiments and the effective mass in neutrinoless double beta decay. Another interesting feature of the model is that one of three exotic fermions is required to explain eV scale phenomena, while other two fermions form stable dark matter candidates and their total relic density satisfy the observed $3σ$ limit of Planck data. We constrain the gauge parameters associated with $U(1)$ gauge extension, using relic density and collider bounds.

Theorem on vanishing contributions to $\sin^2θ_W$ and intermediate mass scale in Grand Unified Theories with trinification symmetry

We prove that the values of the electroweak mixing angle $\sin^2θ_W$ and intermediate mass scale $M_I$ have vanishing contributions due to one-loop, two-loop and gravitational corrections in Grand Unified Theories which accommodate an intermediate trinification symmetry ($G_{333D}$) invoked with spontaneous D-parity mechanism operative at mass scale greater than $M_I$. The proof of theorem is robust and we verify the results numerically using supersymmetric as well as non-supersymmetric version of $E_6$-GUT.

Threshold effects on prediction for proton decay in non-supersymmetric $E_6$ GUT with intermediate trinification symmetry

We consider a non-supersymmetric $E_6$ Grand Unified Theory (GUT) with intermediate trinification symmetry $SU(3)_C \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R \times D$ (D denoted as D-parity for discrete left-right symmetry) and study the effect of one-loop threshold corrections arising due to every class of superheavy particles (scalars, fermions and vectors). It is observed that, the intermediate mass scale $M_I$ and $\sin^2θ_W$ remain unaffected by GUT threshold contributions. The threshold modified unification mass scale $M_U$ is in excellent agreement with the present experimental proton decay constraint. The novel feature of the model is that GUT threshold uncertainty of $M_U$ is found to be controlled by superheavy scalars only, leading to a very predictive scenario for proton decay, which can be verifiable within the foreseeable experiments.

$0νββ$ in left-right theories with Higgs doublets and gauge coupling unification

We consider a version of Left-Right Symmetric Model in which the scalar sector consists of a Higgs bidoublet ($Φ$) with $B-L=0$, Higgs doublets ($H_{L,R}$) with $B-L=1$ and a charged scalar ($δ^+$) with $B-L=2$ leading to radiatively generated Majorana masses for neutrinos and thereby, leads to new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$). We show that such a novel framework can be embedded in a non-SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT leading to successful gauge coupling unification at around $10^{16}$ GeV with the scale of left-right symmetry breaking around $10^{10}$ GeV. The model can also be extended to have left-right symmetry breaking at TeV scale, enabling detection of $W_R, Z_R$ bosons in LHC and future collider searches. In the context of neutrinoless double beta decay, this model can saturate the present bound from GERDA and KamLAND-Zen experiments. Also, we briefly explain how keV-MeV range RH neutrino arising from our model can saturate various astrophysical and cosmological constraints and can be considered as warm Dark Matter (DM) candidate to address various cosmological issues. We also discuss on left-right theories with Higgs doublets without having scalar bidoublet leading to fermion masses and mixings by inclusion of vector like fermions.

Singlet scalar Dark matter in $U(1)_{B-L}$ models without right-handed neutrinos

We investigate the phenomenology of singlet scalar dark matter in a simple $B-L$ gauge extension of the Standard Model where the dark matter particle is charged under the $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry. The non-trivial gauge anomalies are cancelled with the introduction of three exotic fermions with $B-L$ charges as $-4,-4,5$, instead of right-handed neutrinos $ν_{Ri}~(i=1,2,3)$ with $B-L=-1$ in conventional $U(1)_{B-L}$ model. Without the need of any ad-hoc discrete symmetry, the $B-L$ charge plays a crucial role in stabilizing the dark matter. We make a comprehensive study of dark matter phenomenology in the scalar and gauge portals separately. In the gauge-mediated regime, we invoke the LEP-II constraints and dilepton limits of ATLAS on the gauge parameters. A massless physical Goldstone plays a vital role in the scalar-portal dark matter observables, becomes a unique feature of the model. We show the mechanism of generating the light neutrino mass at one-loop level where the dark matter singlet runs in the loop. We shed light on the semi-annihilation and finally, we comment on indirect signals in this framework.

331 Models and Grand Unification: From Minimal SU(5) to Minimal SU(6)

We consider the possibility of grand unification of the $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model in an SU(6) gauge unification group. Two possibilities arise. Unlike other conventional grand unified theories, in SU(6) one can embed the $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model as a subgroup such that different multiplets appear with different multiplicities. Such a scenario may emerge from the flux breaking of the unified group in an E(6) F-theory GUT. This provides new ways of achieving gauge coupling unification in $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ models while providing the radiative origin of neutrino masses. Alternatively, a sequential variant of the $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model can fit within a minimal SU(6) grand unification, which in turn can be a natural E(6) subgroup. This minimal SU(6) embedding does not require any bulk exotics to account for the chiral families while allowing for a TeV scale $\mathrm{ SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model with seesaw-type neutrino masses.

750 GeV Di-photon excess at CERN LHC from a dark sector assisted scalar decay

We present a simple extension of the standard model (SM) to explain the diphoton excess, reported by CMS and ATLAS at CERN LHC. The SM is extended by a dark sector including a vector-like lepton doublet and a singlet of zero electromagnetic charge, which are odd under a $Z_2$ symmetry. These vector-like leptons assist the additional scalar, different from SM Higgs, to decay to di-photons of invariant mass around 750 GeV and thus explaining the excess observed at LHC. The admixture of neutral component of the vector-like lepton doublet and singlet constitute the dark matter component of the Universe. We show the relevant parameter space for correct relic density and direct detection of dark matter.

A minimal model of TeV scale WIMPy leptogenesis

We present a minimal framework of $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge extension of the Standard Model explaining dark matter abundance and matter-antimatter asymmetry simultaneously through an attractive mechanism of TeV scale WIMPy leptogenesis, testable at the current and next generation of colliders. This framework can also explain small neutrino masses via a radiative mechanism. One of the key predictions of this model is an enhanced rate for lepton flavor violating decay $μ\rightarrow e γ$ within the sensitivity reach of next generation experiments.

A new B-L model without right-handed neutrinos

We propose and study a novel extension of the Standard Model based on the B-L gauge symmetry that can account for dark matter and neutrino masses. In this model, right-handed neutrinos are absent and the gauge anomalies are canceled instead by four chiral fermions with fractional B-L charges. After the breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$, these fermions arrange themselves into two Dirac particles, the lightest of which is automatically stable and plays the role of the dark matter. We determine the regions of the parameter space consistent with the observed dark matter density and show that they can be partially probed via direct and indirect dark matter detection or collider searches at the LHC. Neutrino masses, on the other hand, can be explained by a variant of the type-II seesaw mechanism involving one of the two scalar fields responsible for the dark matter mass.

Dark matter, lepton and baryon number, and left-right symmetric theories

A lepto-baryonic left-right symmetric theory is considered along with pointing out stable dark matter candidates whose stability is ensured automatically where leptons and baryons are defined as local gauge symmetries. These theories are generally anomalous and the possible gauge anomaly free solutions for these theories are presented. It is found that the neutral component of fermion triplets can be a viable dark matter candidate originally introduced for gauge anomaly cancellation. The other dark matter possibilities within this lepto-baryonic left-right symmetric theory are also presented.

Implications of the diphoton excess on Left-Right models and gauge unification

The recent diphoton excess signal at an invariant mass of 750 GeV can be interpreted in the framework of left-right symmetric models with additional scalar singlets and vector-like fermions. We propose a minimal scenario for such a purpose. Extending the LRSM framework to include these new vector-like fermionic fields, on the other hand, results in interesting phenomenological implications for the LRSM fermion masses and mixing. Furthermore, existence of such vector-like fermions can also have interesting implications for baryogenesis and the dark matter sector. The introduction of a real bi-triplet scalar which contains a potential DM candidate will allow the gauge couplings to unify at $\approx 10^{17.7}$ GeV.

Lepton Number Violation in Low Scale Seesaw Mechanism and its Collider Complementarity

We consider the TeV scale left-right symmetric theory which can accommodate low scale seesaw mechanisms consistent with neutrino oscillation data and find new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay. The model facilitates natural type-II seesaw dominance and the presence of extra particles make the Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_D$ large that leads to large light heavy neutrino mixing. The spontaneous symmetry breaking through doublets, triplets and bidoublet scalars at TeV scale offers rich phenomenology accessible to LHC. From the numerical studies of the new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay we derive a lower limit on absolute scale of lightest neutrino mass and find that normal hierarchy (NH) pattern is favorable taking into account the cosmology and oscillation data.

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay in LRSM with Natural Type-II seesaw Dominance

We present a detailed discussion on neutrinoless double beta decay within a class of left-right symmetric models where neutrino mass originates by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The spontaneous symmetry breaking is implemented with doublets, triplets and bidoublet scalars. The fermion sector is extended with an extra sterile neutrino per generation that helps in implementing the seesaw mechanism. The presence of extra particles in the model exactly cancels type-I seesaw and allows large value for Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_D$. The key feature of this work is that all the physical masses and mixing are expressed in terms of neutrino oscillation parameters and lightest neutrino mass thereby facilitating to constrain light neutrino masses from $0νββ$ decay. With this large value of $M_D$ new contributions arise due to; i) purely left-handed current via exchange of heavy right-handed neutrinos as well as sterile neutrinos, ii) the so called $λ$ and $η$ diagrams. New physics contributions also arise from right-handed currents with right-handed gauge boson $W_R$ mass around $3$~TeV. From the numerical study, we find that the new contributions to $0νββ$ decay not only saturate the current experimental bound but also give lower limit on absolute scale of lightest neutrino mass and favor NH pattern of light neutrino mass hierarchy.

Reconciling the 2 TeV Excesses at the LHC in a Linear Seesaw Left-Right Model

We interpret the 2 TeV excesses at the LHC in a left-right symmetric model with Higgs doublets and spontaneous $D$-parity violation. The light neutrino masses are understood via a linear seesaw, suppressed by a high $D$-parity breaking scale, and the heavy neutrinos have a pseudo-Dirac character. In addition, with a suppressed right-handed gauge coupling $g_R / g_L \approx 0.6$ in an $SO(10)$ embedding, we can thereby interpret the observed $eejj$ excess at CMS. We show that it can be reconciled with the diboson and dijet excesses within a simplified scenario based on our model. Moreover, we find that the mixing between the light and heavy neutrinos can be potentially large which would induce dominant non-standard contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay via long-range $λ$ and $η$ neutrino exchange.

Singlet fermion Dark Matter within Left-Right Model

We discuss singlet fermion dark matter within a left-right symmetric model promoting baryon and lepton numbers as separate gauge symmetries. We add a simple Dirac fermionic dark matter singlet under $SU(2)_{L,R}$ with nonzero and equal baryon and lepton number which ensures electric charge neutrality. Such a dark matter candidate interacts with SM particles through the extra $Z_{B,\ell}$ gauge bosons. This can give rise to a dark matter particle of a few hundred GeV that couples to $\sim$ TeV scale gauge bosons to give the correct relic density. This model thus accommodates TeV scale $Z_{B,\ell}$ gauge bosons and other low scale BSM particles, which can be easily probed at LHC.

Subdominant Left-Right Scalar Dark Matter as Origin of the 750 GeV Di-photon Excess at LHC

We study the possibility of explaining the recently reported 750 GeV di-photon excess at LHC within the framework of a left-right symmetric model. The 750 GeV neutral scalar in the model is dominantly an admixture of neutral components of scalar bidoublets with a tiny fraction of neutral scalar triplet. Incorporating $SU(2)$ septuplet scalar pairs into the model, we enhance the partial decay width of the 750 GeV neutral scalar into di-photons through charged septuplet components in loop while keeping the neutral septuplet components as subdominant dark matter candidates. The model also predicts the decay width of the 750 GeV scalar to be around 36 GeV to be either confirmed or ruled out by future LHC data. The requirement of producing the correct di-photon signal automatically keeps the septuplet dark matter abundance subdominant in agreement with bounds from direct and indirect detection experiments. We then briefly discuss different possibilities to account for the remaining dark matter component of the Universe in terms of other particle candidates whose stability arise either due to remnant discrete symmetry after spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$ or due to high $SU(2)$-dimension forbidding their decay into lighter particles.

Lepton Number Violation within the Conformal Inverse Seesaw

We present a novel framework within the conformal inverse seesaw scheme allowing large lepton number violation while the neutrino mass formula is still governed by the low-scale inverse seesaw mechanism. This model includes new contributions to rare low-energy lepton number violating processes like neutrinoless double beta decay. We find that the lifetime for this rare process due to heavy sterile neutrinos can saturate current experimental limits. The characteristic collider signature of the present conformal inverse seesaw scheme includes, same-sign dilepton plus two jets and same-sign dilepton plus four jets. Finally, we comment on the testability of the model at the Large Hadron Collider since there are new scalars, new fermions and an extra neutral gauge boson with masses around few 100 GeV to few TeV.

Minimal Left-Right Symmetric Dark Matter

We show that left-right symmetric models can easily accommodate stable TeV-scale dark matter particles without the need for an ad-hoc stabilizing symmetry. The stability of a newly introduced multiplet arises either accidentally as in the Minimal Dark Matter framework or comes courtesy of the remaining unbroken $\mathbb{Z}_2$ subgroup of $B-L$. Only one new parameter is introduced: the mass of the new multiplet. As minimal examples we study left-right fermion triplets and quintuplets and show that they can form viable two-component dark matter. This approach is in particular valid for $SU(2)\times SU(2)\times U(1)$ models that explain the recent diboson excess at ATLAS in terms of a new charged gauge boson of mass 2 TeV.

New physics effects on neutrinoless double beta decay from right-handed current

We study the impact of new physics contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay arising from right-handed current in comparison with the standard mechanism. If the light neutrinos obtain their masses from Type-II seesaw within left-right symmetric model, where the Type-I contribution is suppressed to negligible extent, the right-handed PMNS matrix is the same as its left-handed counterpart, making it highly predictable and can be tested at next-generation experiments. It is very attractive, especially with recent cosmological constraint favoring the normal hierarchy under which the neutrinoless double beta decay is too small to be observed unless new physics appears as indicated by the recent diboson excess observed at ATLAS. The relative contributions from left- and right-handed currents can be reconstructed with the ratio between lifetimes of two different isotopes as well as the ratio of nuclear matrix elements. In this way, the theoretical uncertainties in the calculation of nuclear matrix elements can be essentially avoided. We also discuss the interplay of neutrinoless double beta decay measurements with cosmology, beta decay, and neutrino oscillation.

Stringent Dilepton Bounds on Left-Right Models using LHC data

In canonical left-right symmetric models the lower mass bounds on the charged gauge bosons are in the ballpark of $3-4$ TeV, resulting into much stronger limits on the neutral gauge boson $Z_R$, making its production unreachable at the LHC. However, if one evokes different patterns of left-right symmetry breaking the $Z_R$ might be lighter than the $W_R^\pm$ motivating an independent $Z_R$ collider study. In this work, we use the 8 TeV ATLAS $20.3$ fb$^{-1}$ luminosity data to derive robust bounds on the $Z_R$ mass using dilepton data. %because they provide the most restrictive limits due to the sizable $Z_R$-lepton couplings. We find strong lower bounds on the $Z_R$ mass for different right-handed gauge couplings, excluding $Z_R$ masses up to $\sim 3.2$TeV. For the canonical LR model we place a lower mass bound of $\sim 2.5$TeV. Our findings are almost independent of the right-handed neutrino masses ($\sim 2\,\%$ effect) and applicable to general left-right models.

7 keV sterile neutrino Dark Matter in extended seesaw framework

The appearance of a $3.5$ keV photon line in the X-ray spectra of Andromeda galaxy and other galaxy clusters including the Perseus galaxy can be interpreted as the signal of a $7$ keV sterile neutrino dark matter candidate as one of the plausible explanations. We present here a novel framework of extended seesaw mechanism where the lightest sterile neutrino acts as a Dark Matter candidate and its decay into a photon and an ordinary neutrino accounts for the excess 3.5 keV X-ray line. For implementing the idea, we add two different types of neutral fermion singlets ($S_L$, $N_R$) to the SM light neutrino $ν_L$ so that the light neutrino mass is governed by generic linear seesaw formula. We discuss the complementarity constraints on the model parameters including sterile-active neutrino mixing angle within the extended seesaw framework. Favorably, this framework can be embedded in a $SO(10)$ grand unified theory.

Dipolar dark matter in light of 3.5 keV X-ray Line, Neutrino mass and LUX data

A simple extension of the standard model (SM) providing transient magnetic moments to right-handed neutrinos is presented. In this model, the decay of next-to-lightest right-handed heavy neutrino to the lightest one and a photon (N 2 -> N 1 + gamma) can explain the 3.5 keV X-ray line signal observed by XMM-Newton X-ray observatory. Beside the SM particles and heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos, the model contains a singly charged scalar (H) and an extra Higgs doublet (Sigma). Within this minimal set of extra fields the sub-eV masses of left-handed neutrinos are also explained. Moreover, we show that the spin-independent DM-nucleon cross-section is compatible with latest LUX data.

Double Beta Decay, Lepton Flavour Violation and Collider Signatures of Left-Right Symmetric Models with Spontaneous D Parity Breaking

We propose a class of left-right symmetric models (LRSMs) with spontaneous D parity breaking, where SU(2)_R breaks at the TeV scale while discrete left-right symmetry breaks around 10^9 GeV. By embedding this framework in a non-supersymmetric SO(10) Grand Unified Theory (GUT) with Pati-Salam symmetry as the highest intermediate breaking step, we obtain g_R / g_L ~ 0.6 between the right- and left-handed gauge couplings at the TeV scale. This leads to a suppression of beyond the Standard Model phenomena induced by the right-handed gauge coupling. Here we focus specifically on the consequences for neutrinoless double beta decay, low energy lepton flavour violation and LHC signatures due to the suppressed right handed currents. Interestingly, the reduced g_R allows us to interpret an excess of events observed recently in the range of 1.9 TeV to 2.4 TeV by the CMS group at the LHC as the signature of a right handed gauge boson in LRSMs with spontaneous D parity breaking. Moreover, the reduced right-handed gauge coupling also strongly suppresses the non-standard contribution of heavy states to the neutrinoless double beta decay rate as well as the amplitude of low energy lepton flavour violating processes. In a dominant type-II Seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass generation, we find that both sets of observables provide stringent and complimentary bounds which make it challenging to observe the scenario at the LHC.

Perturbations to $μ-τ$ Symmetry, Leptogenesis and Lepton Flavour Violation with Type II Seesaw

We study the possibility of generating non-zero reactor mixing angle $θ_{13}$ by perturbing the $μ-τ$ symmetric neutrino mass matrix. The leading order $μ-τ$ symmetric neutrino mass matrix originates from type I seesaw mechanism whereas the perturbations to $μ-τ$ symmetry originate from type II seesaw term. We consider four different realizations of $μ-τ$ symmetry: Bimaximal Mixing(BM), Tri-bimaximal Mixing (TBM), Hexagonal Mixing (HM) and Golden Ratio Mixing (GRM) all giving rise to $θ_{13} = 0, θ_{23} = \fracπ{4}$ but different non-zero values of solar mixing angle $θ_{12}$. We assume a minimal $μ-τ$ symmetry breaking type II seesaw mass matrix as a perturbation and calculate the neutrino oscillation parameters as a function of type II seesaw strength. We then consider the origin of non-trivial leptonic CP phase in the charged lepton sector and calculate the lepton asymmetry arising from the lightest right handed neutrino decay by incorporating the presence of both type I and type II seesaw. We constrain the type II seesaw strength as well as leptonic CP phase (and hence the charged lepton sector) by comparing our results with experimental neutrino oscillation parameters as well as Planck bound on baryon to photon ratio. Finally, we extend our analysis on lepton flavour violating decays like $μ\to e γ$ and $μ\to eee$ due to exchange of TeV scale Higgs triplet scalar within the low scale type II seesaw framework. The branching ratios for these lepton flavour processes are examined with the small type II perturbation term $ω$ and the estimated values are very close to the experimental bound coming from current search experiments.

Post-Sphaleron baryogenesis and $n-\bar{n}$ oscillation in non-SUSY SO(10) GUT with gauge coupling unification and proton decay

Post-sphaleron baryogenesis, a fresh and profound mechanism of baryogenesis accounts for the matter-antimatter asymmetry of our present universe in a framework of Pati-Salam symmetry. We attempt here to embed this mechanism in a non-SUSY SO(10) grand unified theory by reviving a novel symmetry breaking chain with Pati-Salam symmetry as an intermediate symmetry breaking step and as well to address post-sphaleron baryogenesis and neutron-antineutron oscillation in a rational manner. The Pati-Salam symmetry based on the gauge group $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_{R} \times SU(4)_C$ is realized in our model at $10^{5}-10^{6}$ GeV and the mixing time for the neutron-antineutron oscillation process having $ΔB=2$ is found to be $τ_{n-\bar{n}} \simeq 10^{8}-10^{10}\,\mbox{secs}$ with the model parameters which is within the reach of forthcoming experiments. Other novel features of the model includes low scale right-handed $W^{\pm}_R$, $Z_R$ gauge bosons, explanation for neutrino oscillation data via gauged inverse (or extended) seesaw mechanism and most importantly TeV scale color sextet scalar particles responsible for observable $n-\bar{n}$ oscillation which can be accessible to LHC. We also look after gauge coupling unification and estimation of proton life-time with and without the addition of color sextet scalars.

Signal of Right-Handed Charged Gauge Bosons at the LHC?

We point out that the recent excess observed in searches for a right-handed gauge boson W_R at CMS can be explained in a left-right symmetric model with D parity violation. In a class of SO(10) models, in which D parity is broken at a high scale, the left-right gauge symmetry breaking scale is naturally small, and at a few TeV the gauge coupling constants satisfy g_R ~ 0.6 g_L. Such models therefore predict a right-handed charged gauge boson W_R in the TeV range with a suppressed gauge coupling as compared to the usually assumed manifest left-right symmetry case g_R = g_L. The recent CMS data show excess events which are consistent with the cross section predicted in the D parity breaking model for 1.9 TeV < M_{W_R} < 2.4 TeV. If the excess is confirmed, it would in general be a direct signal of new physics beyond the Standard Model at the LHC. A TeV scale W_R would for example not only rule out SU(5) grand unified theory models. It would also imply B-L violation at the TeV scale, which would be the first evidence for baryon or lepton number violation in nature and it has strong implications on the generation of neutrino masses and the baryon asymmetry in the Universe.

Sub-dominant Type II Seesaw as an Origin of Non-zero $θ_{13}$ in SO(10) model with TeV scale $Z^\prime$ Gauge Boson

We discuss a class of left-right symmetric models where the light neutrino masses originate dominantly from type I seesaw mechanism along with a sub-dominant type II seesaw contribution. The dominant type I seesaw gives rise to tri-bimaximal type neutrino mixing whereas sub-dominant type II seesaw acts as a small perturbation giving rise to non-zero $θ_{13}$ in our model which also has TeV scale right-handed neutrinos and $Z^\prime$ gauge boson thereby making the model verifiable at current accelerator experiments. Sub-dominant type II and dominant type I seesaw can be naturally accommodated by allowing spontaneous breaking of D-parity and $SU(2)_R$ gauge symmetry at high scale and allowing TeV scale breaking of $U(1)_{R} \times U(1)_{B-L}$ into $U(1)_Y$. We also embed the left-right model in a non-supersymmetric $SO(10)$ grand unified theory (GUT) with verifiable TeV scale $Z^\prime$ gauge boson. Drawing it to an end, we scrutinize in detail the evaluation of one-loop renormalization group evolution for relevant gauge couplings and estimation of the proton life time which can be accessible to the foreseeable experiments. And in the aftermost part we make an estimation of branching ratio for lepton flavor violating process $μ\rightarrow e + γ$ as a function of type II seesaw strength due to doubly charged component of the right handed Higgs triplet with mass at the TeV scale, which can be accessible at ongoing experiments.

$0 ν\, ββ$ decay process in left-right symmetric models without scalar Bidoublet

We present an alternative formulation of the left-right symmetric theory where the scalar sector consists of two Higgs doublets which differs from the standard version of the left-right model that makes use of $L-$ and $R-$ Higgs triplets and a Higgs bi-doublet. The basic idea is to consider few extra charged iso-singlet fields and the fermion masses can be realized by integrating out these heavy isosinglet fields. We also give a detailed discussion on neutrinoless double beta decay in this particular left-right symmetric theory where the right-handed Majorana neutrino can be of MeV range. With this right-handed Majorana mass around MeV scale, the contribution to neutrinoless double beta decay coming from the right-handed current can be comparable with the contributions coming from the standard left-handed sector only if the right-handed gauge boson mass is around 5 TeV, and with this operative scale of $W_R$ around few TeV, it is possible to probe at LHC. We have briefly commented on cosmological constraints coming from the big-bang nucleosynthesis and Universe cosmology to the right-handed neutrinos involved in this discussion.

Left-right models with light neutrino mass prediction and dominant neutrinoless double beta decay rate

In TeV scale left-right symmetric models, new dominant predictions to neutrinoless double beta decay and light neutrino masses are in mutual contradiction because of large contribution to the latter through popular seesaw mechanisms. We show that in a class of left-right models with high-scale parity restoration, these results coexist without any contravention with neutrino oscillation data and the relevant formula for light neutrino masses is obtained via gauged inverse seesaw mechanism. The most dominant contribution to the double beta decay is shown to be via $W^-_L- W^-_R$ mediation involving both light and heavy neutrino exchanges, and the model predictions are found to discriminate whether the Dirac neutrino mass is of quark-lepton symmetric origin or without it. We also discuss associated lepton flavor violating decays.

Neutrino masses, dominant neutrinoless double beta decay, and observable lepton flavor violation in left-right models and SO(10) grand unification with low mass $\bf W_R, Z_R$ bosons

While the detection of $W_R$-boson at the Large Hadron Collider is likely to resolve the mystery of parity violation in weak interaction, observation of neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) is expected to determine whether neutrinos are Majorana fermions. In this work we consider a class of LR models with TeV scale $W_R, Z_R$ bosons but having parity restoration at high scales where they originate from well known Pati-Salam symmetry or $SO(10)$ grand unified theory minimally extended to accommodate inverse seesaw frame work for neutrino masses. Most dominant new contribution to neutrinoless double beta decay is noted to occur via $W_L^{-}W_L^{-}$ mediation involving lighter sterile neutrino exchanges. The next dominant contribution is found to be through $W_L^{-}W_R^{-}$ mediation involving both light and heavy right-handed neutrino or sterile neutrino exchanges. The quark-lepton symmetric origin of the computed value of the Dirac neutrino mass matrix is also found to play a crucial role in determining these and other results on lepton flavor violating branching ratios for $τ\rightarrow e + γ$, $τ\rightarrow μ+ γ$, and $μ\rightarrow e + γ$ accessible to ongoing search experiments. The underlying non-unitarity matrix is found to manifest in substantial CP-violating effects even when the leptonic Dirac phase $δ_{\rm CP} \simeq 0, π, 2 π$. Finally we explore a possible origin of the model in non-supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory where, in addition to low mass $W_R^\pm$ and $Z_R$ bosons accessible to Large Hadron Collider, the model is found to predict observable neutron-antineutron oscillation and lepto-quark gauge boson mediated rare kaon decay with $\mbox{Br} \left(K_{\rm L} \rightarrow μ\, \bar{e}\right) \simeq \left(10^{-9}- 10^{-11} \right)$.

Neutrinoless double beta decay and pseudo-Dirac neutrino mass predictions through inverse seesaw mechanism

In the inverse seesaw extension of the standard model, supersymmetric or non-supersymmetric, while the light left-handed neutrinos are Majorana, the heavy right-handed neutrinos are pseudo-Dirac fermions. We show how one of these latter category of particles can contribute quite significantly to neutrinoless double beta decay. The neutrino virtuality momentum is found to play a crucial role in the non-standard contributions leading to the prediction of the pseudo-Dirac fermion mass in the range of $120\, {MeV}-500\, {MeV}$. When the Dirac neutrino mass matrix in the inverse seesaw formula is similar to the up-quark mass matrix, characteristic of high scale quark-lepton symmetric origin, the predicted branching ratios for lepton flavor violating decays are also found to be closer to the accessible range of ongoing experiments.

Neutrinoless double-$β$ decay in TeV scale Left-Right symmetric models

In this paper we study in detail the neutrinoless double beta decay in left-right symmetric models with right-handed gauge bosons at TeV scale which is within the presently accessible reach of colliders. We discuss the different diagrams that can contribute to this process and identify the dominant ones for the case where the right-handed neutrino is also at the TeV scale. We calculate the contribution to the effective mass governing neutrinoless double beta decay assuming type-I, and type-II dominance and discuss what are the changes in the effective mass due to the additional contributions. We also discuss the effect of the recent Daya-Bay and RENO measurements on $\sin^2θ_{13}$ on the effective mass in different scenarios.

A simple model for magnetic inelastic dark matter (MiDM)

A simple model for magnetic inelastic dark matter (MiDM), which is a minimal extension of the standard model with right-handed neutrinos ($N_R$), a singly charged scalar ($S$) and a vector-like charged fermion ($E$), has been presented. In this framework in which dark matter inelastically scatters off nuclei through a magnetic dipole interaction by making a transition to a nearly degenerate state with a mass splitting ($δ$) of 100 keV. The model is constrained from Direct detection experiments, DAMA and COGENT. In our analysis we do not find any parameter space using the recent annual modulation data from COGENT, where DAMA and COGENT are consistent with each other. The bound from relic density provides a much stronger constraint. We find that this minimal extension of SM incorporates a DM candidate which can explain the indirect detection results while being consistent with relic density measurements. The right handed neutrino and the charged particles responsible for the right-handed neutrino magnetic moments could be produced at the Large Hadron Collider.

Electromagnetic leptogenesis at the TeV scale

We construct an explicit model implementing electromagnetic leptogenesis. In a simple extension of the Standard Model, a discrete symmetry forbids the usual decays of the right-handed neutrinos, while allowing for an effective coupling between the left-handed and right-handed neutrinos through the electromagnetic dipole moment. This generates correct leptogenesis with resonant enhancement and also the required neutrino mass via a TeV scale seesaw mechanism. The model is consistent with low energy phenomenology and would have distinct signals in the next generation colliders, and, perhaps even the LHC.

TeV scale Left Right Symmetry with spontaneous D-parity breaking

The different scenarios of spontaneous breaking of D-parity have been studied in both non-supersymmetric and supersymmetric version of the left-right symmetric models(LRSM). We explore the possibility of a TeV scale $SU(2)_R$ breaking scale $M_R$ and hence TeV scale right handed neutrinos from both minimization of the scalar potential as well as the coupling constant unification point of view. We show that although minimization of the scalar potential allows the possibility of a TeV scale $M_R$ and tiny neutrino masses in LRSM with spontaneous D-parity breaking, the gauge coupling unification at a high scale $\sim 10^{16}$ GeV does not favour a TeV scale symmetry breaking except in the supersymmetric left-right (SUSYLR) model with Higgs doublet and bidoublet. The phenomenology of neutrino mass is also discussed.

Spontaneous Left-Right Symmetry Breaking in Supersymmetric Models with only Higgs Doublets

We studied the question of parity breaking in a supersymmetric left-right model, in which the left-right symmetry is broken with Higgs doublets (carrying $B-L=\pm 1$). Unlike the left-right symmetric models with triplet Higgs scalars (carrying $B-L=\pm 2$), in this model it is possible to break parity spontaneously by adding a parity odd singlet. We then discussed how neutrino mass of type III seesaw can be invoked in this model by adding extra fermion singlets. We considered simple forms of the mass matrices that are consistent with the unification scheme and demonstrate how they can reproduce the required neutrino mixing matrix. In this model, the baryon asymmetry of the universe is generated via leptogenesis. The required mass scales in the model is then found to be consistent with the gauge coupling unification.

Testable Leptogenesis in extended Standard Model

We have proposed a new minimal extension of the Standard Model with a heavy Majorana fermion triplet($Σ$) and an extra scalar doublet($η$) so that the seesaw mechanism is radiative and can be accessible at upcoming accelerators. The origin of neutrino mass via the famous seesaw mechanism through the heavy Majorana fermion triplet has been discussed. We have proposed a mechanism of leptogenesis by the decay of the lightest neutral component of the fermion triplet into a Standard Model lepton doublet and an extra Higgs doublet. The important thing is that the leptogenesis scenario discussed in this letter can be of TeV scale and hence can be testable at Large Hadron Collider(LHC). We have also discussed a possible dark matter scenario in our model and the possible phenomenology of the fermion field $Σ$.

Spontaneous Parity Violation in a Supersymmetric Left-Right Symmetric Model

We propose a novel implementation of spontaneous parity breaking in supersymmetric left-right symmetric model, avoiding some of the problems encountered in previous studies. This implementation includes a bitriplet and a singlet, in addition to the bidoublets which extend the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The supersymmetric vacua of this theory are shown to lead generically to spontaneous violation of parity, while preserving R parity. The model is shown to reproduce the see-saw relation for vacuum expectation values, $v_L v_R \approx m_{EW}^2$ relating the new mass scales $v_L$, $v_R$ to the electroweak scale $m_{EW}$, just as in the non-supersymmetric version. The scale $v_R$ determines the mass scale of heavy majorana neutrinos, which gets related to the obeserved neutrino masses through type II see-saw relation.

Gravitational correction to SU(5) gauge coupling unification

The gravitational corrections to the gauge coupling constants of abelian and non-abelian gauge theories has been shown to diverge quadratically. Since this result will have interesting consequences, this has been analyzed by several authors from different approaches. We propose to discuss this issue from a phenomenological approach. We analyze the SU(5) gauge coupling unification and argue that the gravitational corrections to gauge coupling constants may not vanish when higher dimensional non-renormalizable terms are included in the problem.
