Eventual regularization for the 3D Muskat problem: Lipschitz for finite time implies global existence

We show that for any fixed Lipschitz constant $L$, there is a time $T^*<\infty$ depending only on $L$ such that if $f:[0,T^*]\times \mathbb{R}^{2}\to [0,1]$ is a classical solution of the stable Muskat problem with $||\nabla_x f||_{L^\infty}\leq L$, then $f$ extends uniquely to a classical solution defined for all time. Our proof is short, quantitative, and explicit.

Global wellposedness for the 3D Muskat problem with medium size slope

We prove the existence and uniqueness of global, classical solutions to the 3D Muskat problem in the stable regime whenever the initial interface has sublinear growth and slope $||\nabla_x f_0||_{L^\infty}< 5^{-1/2}$. We show under these assumptions that the equation is fundamentally parabolic, satisfying a comparison principle. Applying the modulus of continuity technique, we show that rough initial data instantly becomes $C^{1,1}$ with the curvature decaying like $O(t^{-1})$.

Velocity Decay Estimates for Boltzmann equation with hard potentials

We establish pointwise polynomial decay estimates in velocity space for the spatially inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation without cutoff, in the case of hard potentials ($γ+2s > 2$), under the assumption that the mass, energy, and entropy densities are bounded above, and the mass density is bounded below. These estimates are self-generating, i.e. they do not require corresponding decay assumptions on the initial data. Our results extend the recent work of Imbert-Mouhot-Silvestre (arXiv:1804.06135), which addressed the case of moderately soft potentials ($γ+ 2s \in [0,2]$).

A product formula for multivariate Rogers-Szegö polynomials

Let $H_n(t)$ denote the classical Rogers-Szegö polynomial, and let $\tH_n(t_1, \ldots, t_l)$ denote the homogeneous Rogers-Szegö polynomial in $l$ variables, with indeterminate $q$. There is a classical product formula for $H_k(t)H_n(t)$ as a sum of Rogers-Szegö polynomials with coefficients being polynomials in $q$. We generalize this to a product formula for the multivariate homogeneous polynomials $\tH_n(t_1, \ldots, t_l)$. The coefficients given in the product formula are polynomials in $q$ which are defined recursively, and we find closed formulas for several interesting cases. We then reinterpret the product formula in terms of symmetric function theory, where these coefficients become structure constants.

Universal State Transfer on Graphs

A continuous-time quantum walk on a graph $G$ is given by the unitary matrix $U(t) = \exp(-itA)$, where $A$ is the Hermitian adjacency matrix of $G$. We say $G$ has pretty good state transfer between vertices $a$ and $b$ if for any $ε> 0$, there is a time $t$, where the $(a,b)$-entry of $U(t)$ satisfies $|U(t)_{a,b}| \ge 1-ε$. This notion was introduced by Godsil (2011). The state transfer is perfect if the above holds for $ε= 0$. In this work, we study a natural extension of this notion called universal state transfer. Here, state transfer exists between every pair of vertices of the graph. We prove the following results about graphs with this stronger property: (1) Graphs with universal state transfer have distinct eigenvalues and flat eigenbasis (where each eigenvector has entries which are equal in magnitude). (2) The switching automorphism group of a graph with universal state transfer is abelian and its order divides the size of the graph. Moreover, if the state transfer is perfect, then the switching automorphism group is cyclic. (3) There is a family of prime-length cycles with complex weights which has universal pretty good state transfer. This provides a concrete example of an infinite family of graphs with the universal property. (4) There exists a class of graphs with real symmetric adjacency matrices which has universal pretty good state transfer. In contrast, Kay (2011) proved that no graph with real-valued adjacency matrix can have universal perfect state transfer. We also provide a spectral characterization of universal perfect state transfer graphs that are switching equivalent to circulants.
