A stochastic differential equation SIS model on network under Markovian switching

We study a stochastic SIS (susceptible-infected-susceptible) epidemic dynamics on network, under the effect of a Markovian regime-switching. We first prove the existence of a unique global positive solution, and find a positive invariant set for the system. Then, we find sufficient conditions for a.s. extinction and stochastic permanence, showing also their relation with the stationary probability distribution of the Markov chain that governs the switching and with the network topology. We provide an asymptotic lower bound for the time average of the sample-path solution under the conditions ensuring stochastic permanence. From this bound, we are able to prove the existence of an invariant probability measure if the condition of stochastic permanence holds. Under a different condition, we prove the positive recurrence and the ergodicity of the regime-switching diffusion.

Random evolution equations: well-posedness, asymptotics, and applications to graphs

We study diffusion-type equations supported on structures that are randomly varying in time. After settling the issue of well-posedness, we focus on the asymptotic behavior of solutions: our main result gives sufficient conditions for pathwise convergence in norm of the (random) propagator towards a (deterministic) steady state. We apply our findings in two environments with randomly evolving features: ensembles of difference operators on combinatorial graphs, or else of differential operators on metric graphs.

Surface measures and integration by parts formula on levels sets induced by functionals of the Brownian motion in $\mathbb R^n$

On the infinite dimensional space $E$ of continuous paths from $[0,1]$ to $\mathbb R^n$, $n \ge 3$, endowed with the Wiener measure $μ$, we construct a surface measure defined on level sets of the $L^2$-norm of $n$-dimensional processes that are solutions to a class of stochastic gradient system-type equations, and provide an integration by parts formula involving this surface measure. We follow the approach to surface measures in Gaussian spaces proposed via techniques of Malliavin calculus by Airault and Malliavin in 1988.

Epidemics on networks with heterogeneous population and stochastic infection rates

In this paper we study the diffusion of an SIS-type epidemics on a network under the presence of a random environment, that enters in the definition of the infection rates of the nodes. Accordingly, we model the infection rates in the form of independent stochastic processes. To analyze the problem, we apply a mean field approximation, which allows to get a stochastic differential equations for the probability of infection in each node, and classical tools about stability, which require to find suitable Lyapunov's functions. Here, we find conditions which guarantee, respectively, extinction and stochastic persistence of the epidemics. We show that there exists two regions, given in terms of the coefficients of the model, one where the system goes to extinction almost surely, and the other where it is stochastic permanent. These two regions are, unfortunately, not adjacent, as there is a gap between them, whose extension depends on the specific level of noise. In this last region, we perform numerical analysis to suggest the true behavior of the solution.

Epidemic Outbreaks in Networks with Equitable or Almost-Equitable Partitions

We study the diffusion of epidemics on networks that are partitioned into local communities. The gross structure of hierarchical networks of this kind can be described by a quotient graph. The rationale of this approach is that individuals infect those belonging to the same community with higher probability than individuals in other communities. In community models the nodal infection probability is thus expected to depend mainly on the interaction of a few, large interconnected clusters. In this work, we describe the epidemic process as a continuous-time individual-based susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) model using a first-order mean-field approximation. A key feature of our model is that the spectral radius of this smaller quotient graph (which only captures the macroscopic structure of the community network) is all we need to know in order to decide whether the overall healthy-state defines a globally asymptotically stable or an unstable equilibrium. Indeed, the spectral radius is related to the epidemic threshold of the system. Moreover we prove that, above the threshold, another steady-state exists that can be computed using a lower-dimensional dynamical system associated with the evolution of the process on the quotient graph. Our investigations are based on the graph-theoretical notion of equitable partition and of its recent and rather flexible generalization, that of almost equitable partition.

Stochastic differential equations with variable structure driven by multiplicative Gaussian noise and sliding mode dynamic

This work is concerned with existence of weak solutions to discon- tinuous stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative Gaus- sian noise and sliding mode control dynamics generated by stochastic differential equations with variable structure, that is with jump nonlin- earity. The treatment covers the finite dimensional stochastic systems and the stochastic diffusion equation with multiplicative noise.
