A remark on decay rates of solutions for a system of quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger equations in 2D

We consider the initial value problem for a three-component system of quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger equations with mass resonance in two space dimensions. Under a suitable condition on the coefficients of the nonlinearity, we will show that the solution decays strictly faster than $O(t^{-1})$ as $t \to +\infty$ in $L^{\infty}$ by providing with an enhanced decay estimate of order $O((t \log t)^{-1})$. Differently from the previous works, our approach does not rely on the explicit form of the asymptotic profile of the solution at all.

Asymptotic bahavior for systems of nonlinear wave equations with multiple propagation speeds in three space dimensions

We consider the Cauchy problem for systems of nonlinear wave equations with multiple propagation speeds in three space dimensions. Under the null condition for such systems, the global existence of small amplitude solutions is known. In this paper, we will show that the global solution is asymptotically free in the energy sense, by obtaining the asymptotic pointwise behavior of the derivatives of the solution. Nonetheless we can also show that the pointwise behavior of the solution itself may be quite different from that of the free solution. In connection with the above results, a theorem is also developed to characterize asymptotically free solutions for wave equations in arbitrary space dimensions.

Null structure in a system of quadratic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations

We consider the initial value problem for a three-component system of quadratic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations in two space dimensions with the masses satisfying the resonance relation. We present a structural condition on the nonlinearity under which small data global existence holds. It is also shown that the solution is asymptotically free. Our proof is based on the commuting vector field method combined with smoothing effects.

Semilinear hyperbolic systems violating the null condition

We consider systems of semilinear wave equations in three space dimensions with quadratic nonlinear terms not satisfying the null condition. We prove small data global existence of the classical solution under a new structural condition related to the weak null condition. For two-component systems satisfying this condition, we also observe a new kind of asymptotic behavior: Only one component is dissipated and the other one behaves like a free solution in the large time.

Asymptotic pointwise behavior for systems of semilinear wave equations in three space dimensions

In connection with the weak null condition, Alinhac introduced a sufficient condition for global existence of small amplitude solutions to systems of semilinear wave equations in three space dimensions. We introduce a slightly weaker sufficient condition for the small data global existence, and we investigate the asymptotic pointwise behavior of global solutions for systems satisfying this condition. As an application, the asymptotic behavior of global solutions under the Alinhac condition is also derived.

A note on the null condition for quadratic nonlinear Klein-Gordon systems in two space dimensions

We consider the Cauchy problem for quadratic nonlinear Klein-Gordon systems in two space dimensions with masses satisfying the resonance relation. Under the null condition in the sense of J.-M. Delort, D. Fang, R. Xue (2004), we show the global existence of asymptotically free solutions if the initial data are sufficiently small in some weighted Sobolev space. Our proof is based on an algebraic characterization of nonlinearities satisfying the null condition.

Global existence for coupled systems of nonlinear wave and Klein-Gordon equations in three space dimensions

We consider the Cauchy problem for coupled systems of wave and Klein-Gordon equations with quadratic nonlinearity in three space dimensions. We show global existence of small amplitude solutions under certain condition including the null condition on self-interactions between wave equations. Our condition is much weaker than the strong null condition introduced by Georgiev for this kind of coupled system. Consequently our result is applicable to certain physical systems, such as the Dirac-Klein-Gordon equations, the Dirac-Proca equations, and the Klein-Gordon-Zakharov equations.

The energy decay and asymptotics for a class of semilinear wave equations in two space dimensions

We consider semilinear wave equations with small initial data in two space dimensions. For a class of wave equations with cubic nonlinearity, we show the global existence of small amplitude solutions, and give an asymptotic description of the solution as $t \to \infty$ uniformly in $x \in {\mathbb R}^2$. In particular, our result implies the decay of the energy when the nonlinearity is dissipative.

Lower bound of the lifespan of solutions to semilinear wave equations in an exterior domain

We consider the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for semilinear wave equations in a three space dimensional domain exterior to a bounded and non-trapping obstacle. We obtain a detailed estimate for the lower bound of the lifespan of classical solutions when the size of initial data tends to zero, in a similar spirit to that of the works of John and Hörmander where the Cauchy problem was treated. We show that our estimate is sharp at least for some special case.
