Massive On-shell Recursion Relations for n-point Amplitudes

We construct two and three-line shifts for tree-level amplitude with massless and/or massive particles, and provide a method to construct general multi-line shifts for all masses. We choose the massless-massive BCFW shift from these shifts and examine its validity in renormalizable theories. Using such a shift, we find that amplitudes with at least one massless vector boson are constructible. This reveals the importance of gauge theory in the construction of amplitudes with massive particles. We also find that this kind of amplitudes have a cancellation related to group structure among different channels, which is essential for constructibility. Furthermore, we show that in the limit of large shift parameter $z$, the amplitude with four massive vector bosons, which can include transverse massive vector particles, have structures proportional to the amplitude with shifted vector particles replaced by Goldstone bosons in the leading order. This is responsible for the failure of massive-massive BCFW recursion relations in the amplitudes with four massive vector bosons.

Effective Field Theory Perspective on Next-to-Minimal Composite Higgs

We study both the CP-even and CP-odd effective chiral Lagrangians of next minimal composite Higgs model {with symmetry breaking pattern depicted by the coset $SO(6)/SO(5)$} through the sigma/omega decomposition, in which the Goldstone matrix of the coset is decomposed in terms of the standard model Higgs doublet and an additional scalar singlet $s$ at the electroweak scale. The effective Lagrangian is described by the electroweak chiral Lagrangian up to $p^4$ order, with a function dependence on the Higgs boson and new scalar $s$, named Higgs function. This function in the effective Lagrangian incorporates the Higgs non-linearity or vacuum misalignment effects in the next minimal composite Higgs model, due to the Riemann curvature on the Nambu-Goldstone bosons scalar manifold, leads to various Higgs couplings deviated from the standard model ones, and also indicates the relations among different Higgs couplings in the low energy. Matching to the Higgs effective field theory below the electroweak scale, we obtain various low energy observables such as the electroweak oblique parameters, anomalous triple and quartic gauge couplings, anomalous couplings of Higgs to gauge bosons, in which the Higgs non-linearity effects are encoded in the ratio $ξ\equiv v^2/f^2$ of the electroweak scale and the new physics scale.

Minimal Neutral Naturalness Model

We build a minimal neutral naturalness model in which the top partners are not charged under QCD, with a pseudo Goldstone Higgs arising from $SO(5)/SO(4)$ breaking. The color-neutral top partners generate the Higgs potential radiatively without quadratic divergence. The misalignment between the electroweak scale and global symmetry breaking scale is naturally obtained from suppression of the Higgs quadratic term, due to cancellation between singlet and doublet top partner contributions. This model can be embedded into ultraviolet holographic setup in composite Higgs framework, which even realizes finite Higgs potential.

Non-Thermal Cosmic Rays During Big Bang Nucleosynthesis to Solve the Lithium Problem

The discrepancy between the theoretical prediction of primordial lithium abundances and astronomical observations is called the Lithium Problem. We find that extra contributions from non-thermal hydrogen and helium during Big Bang nucleosynthesis can explain the discrepancy, for both Li-7 and Li-6, and will change the deuterium abundance only little. The allowed parameter space of such an amount of non-thermal particles and the energy range is shown. The hypothesis is stable regardless of the cross-section uncertainty of relevant reactions and the explicit shape of the energy spectrum.

A Loop-philic Pseudoscalar

We construct a weakly-coupled renormalizable model to explain the $750\mbox{GeV}$ diphoton excess. The $750\mbox{GeV}$ resonance (denoted as $X(750)$) is interpreted as a pseudoscalar coming from a complex singlet. The model also naturally provides a dark matter candidate. One most attractive feature of the model is that decays of $X(750)$ are all loop-induced so the diphoton rate is not diluted by unwanted tree level branching fractions. Relevant Yukawa interactions need not to be tuned to near non-perturbative region to explain the rate. The model is highly predictive, including the pseudoscalar nature of $X(750)$, and two nearly mass-degenerate exotic quarks carrying electric charge $5/3$ and $2/3$, respectively. Rich phenomenology is expected with respect to collider searches, flavor physics and dark matter detection, if $X(750)$ can be pinned down by future LHC experiments.

Dark matter annihilation into right-handed neutrinos and the galactic center gamma-ray excess

In this paper, we will discuss a specific case that the dark matter particles annihilate into right-handed neutrinos. We calculate the predicted gamma-ray excess from the galactic center and compare our results with the data from the Fermi-LAT. An approximately 10-60 GeV right-handed neutrino with heavier dark matter particle can perfectly explain the observed spectrum. The annihilation cross section $\langle σv \rangle$ falls within the range $0.5$-$4 \times 10^{-26} \text{ cm}^3/\text{s}$, which is roughly compatible with the WIMP annihilation cross section.

Higgs-$μ$-$τ$ Coupling at High and Low Energy Colliders

There is no tree-level flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) in the standard model (SM) which contains only one Higgs doublet. If more Higgs doublets are introduced for various reasons, the tree level FCNC would be inevitable except extra symmetry was imposed. Therefore FCNC processes are the excellent probes for the physics beyond the SM (BSM). In this paper, we studied the lepton flavor violated (LFV) decay processes $h\rightarrowμτ$ and $τ\rightarrowμγ$ induced by Higgs-$μ$-$τ$ vertex. For $τ\rightarrowμγ$, its branching ratio is also related to the $ht\bar{t}$, $hτ^+τ^-$ and $hW^+W^-$ vertices. We categorized the BSM into two scenarios for the Higgs coupling strengths near or away from SM. For the latter scenario, we took the spontaneously broken two Higgs doublet model (Lee model) as an example. We considered the constraints by recent data from LHC and B factories, and found that the measurements gave weak constraints. At LHC Run II, $h\rightarrowμτ$ will be confirmed or set stricter limit on its branching ratio. Accordingly, $\textrm{Br}(τ\rightarrowμγ)\lesssim\mathcal{O}(10^{-10}-10^{-8})$ for general chosen parameters. For the positive case, $τ\rightarrowμγ$ can be discovered with $\mathcal{O}(10^{10})$ $τ$ pair samples at SuperB factory, Super $τ$-charm factory and new Z-factory. The future measurements for $\textrm{Br}(h\rightarrowμτ)$ and $\textrm{Br}(τ\rightarrowμγ)$ will be used to distinguish these two scenarios or set strict constraints on the correlations among different Higgs couplings, please see Table II in the text for details.

Lightness of a Higgs Boson and Spontaneous CP-violation in the Lee Model: An Alternative Scenario

Based on the weakly-coupled two-Higgs-doublet model with spontaneous CP-violation (named Lee model) and the mechanism to generate the correlation between smallness of CP-violation and lightness of scalar mass, as we proposed earlier, we predicted a light CP-mixing scalar $η$ in which pseudoscalar component is dominant. It is a natural scenario in which $m_η\sim\mathcal{O}(10\textrm{GeV})\ll v$. Masses of all other scalars ($h$, $H$, $H^\pm$) should be around the electro-weak scale $v$. Among them, the 125 GeV Higgs ($h$) couplings are standard-model like, and the charged Higgs ($H^\pm$) mass should be around the heaviest neutral scalar ($H$) mass. We discussed all experimental constraints and showed that this scenario is still allowed by data. The strictest constraints come from the experiments of the flavor-changing processes and the EDM of lepton and neutron. We also discussed the future tests for this scenario. It is possible to discover the extra scalars or exclude this scenario at future colliders, especially at the LHC and $e^+e^-$ colliders with $\mathcal{O}(\textrm{ab}^{-1})$ luminosity. We also pointed out that the $Z$-mediated Higgs pair production via $e^+e^-\rightarrow h_ih_j$ ($h_i, h_j$ stand for two of the $η, h, H$) would be the key observable to confirm or exclude CP-violation in Higgs sector. The sensitivity to test this scenario is worth further studying in greater detail.

Lightness of Higgs Boson and Spontaneous CP Violation in Lee Model

We propose a mechanism in which the lightness of Higgs boson and the smallness of CP-violation are correlated based on the Lee model, namely the spontaneous CP-violation two-Higgs-doublet-model. In this model, the mass of the lightest Higgs boson $m_h$ as well as the quantities $K$ and $J$ are $\propto t_βs_ξ$ in the limit $t_βs_ξ\rightarrow0$ (see text for definitions of $t_β$ and $ξ$), namely the CP conservation limit. Here $K$ and $J$ are the measures for CP-violation effects in scalar and Yukawa sectors respectively. It is a new way to understand why the Higgs boson discovered at the LHC is light. We investigated the important constraints from both high energy LHC data and numerous low energy experiments, especially the measurements of EDMs of electron and neutron as well as the quantities of B-meson and kaon. Confronting all data, we found that this model is still viable. It should be emphasized that there is no standard-model limit for this scenario, thus it is always testable for future experiments. In order to pin down Lee model, it is important to discover the extra neutral and charged Higgs bosons and measure their CP properties and the flavor-changing decays. At the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=14\textrm{TeV}$, this scenario is favored if there is significant suppression in the $b\bar{b}$ decay channel or any vector boson fusion (VBF), V+H production channels. On the contrary, it will be disfavored if the signal strengths are standard-model-like more and more. It can be easily excluded at $(3\sim5)σ$ level with several $\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ at future $e^+e^-$ colliders, via the accurately measuring the Higgs boson production cross sections.

NMSSM extended with vectorlike particles and the diphoton excess at the LHC

We investigate the parameter space of a model which extends next to minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) with the vectorlike (VL) particles. We find that the $10+\overline{10}$ model can explain the possible diphoton excess recently revealed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, although the predicted signal strength is a little smaller than the observed one.

Probing CP-violating $h\bar{t}t$ coupling in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow h γ$

We investigate the possibility of probing the CP-violating $h\bar{t}t$ coupling in the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow h γ$ at the future high luminosity $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliders. Our numerical results show that the cross section for this process can be significantly increased for the allowed CP phase $ξ$ and center of mass energy. For example the cross section is about 6 times of that in the standard model (SM) for $\sqrt{s}=350~\mathrm{GeV}$ and $ξ=3π/5$ (see text for $ξ$ definition). The simulation for the signal process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow h γ\rightarrow b \bar{b}γ$ and its backgrounds shows that the signal significance can reach more than $4.8σ$ and $2.3σ$ for $\sqrt{s}=350~\mathrm{GeV},\ 500~\mathrm{GeV}$ respectively, with the integrated luminosity $\mathcal{L}=3~\text{ab}^{-1}$ and $ξ\in[π/2,3π/5]$. For $\mathcal{L}=10~\text{ab}^{-1}$, the signal significance can be greater than 5 for $\sqrt{s}=350~\mathrm{GeV}$ and 3.9 for $\sqrt{s}=500~\mathrm{GeV}$ with the CP phase $ξ\in[π/2,3π/5]$. Besides the cross section enhancement, the CP-violating $h\bar{t}t$ coupling will induce the forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$ which is absent in the SM and is a clear signal of new CP violation. Compared with the $A_{FB}$ in the Higgs decay $h\rightarrow l^{+}l^{-}γ$, the $A_{FB}$ can be greatly enhanced in the production process. For example $A_{FB}$ can reach 0.5 for $\cosξ\simeq 0.7$ and $\sqrt{s}=500~\mathrm{GeV}$. Due to the large backgrounds, the significance of the expected $A_{FB}$ can only be observed at $1.7σ$ with $\mathcal{L}=10~\text{ab}^{-1}$ and $\sqrt{s}=500~\mathrm{GeV}$. It is essential to trigger the single photon in the final state to separate the bottom jets arising from scalar or vector bosons, in order to isolate the signal from the backgrounds more efficiently.

Vector-like Sneutrino Dark Matter

In this paper, we discuss the MSSM extended with one vector-like lepton doublets $L$-$\overline{L}$ and one right-handed neutrino $N$. The neutral vecotor-like sneutrino can be a candidate of dark matter. In order to avoid the interaction with the necleons by exchanging a $Z$-boson, the mass splitting between the real part and the imaginary part of the sneutrino field is needed. Compared with the MSSM sneutrino dark matter, the mass splitting between the vector-like sneutrino field can be more naturally acquired without large A-terms and constraints on the neutralino masses. We have also calculated the relic density and the elastic scattering cross sections with the neucleons in the cases that the dark matter particles coannihilate with or without the MSSM slepton doublets. The elastic scattering cross sections with the neucleons are well below the LUX bounds. In the case that the dark matter coannihilate with all the MSSM slepton doublets, the mass of the dark matter can be as light as 370 GeV.

Anomalous Higgs-top Coupling Pollution on Triple Higgs Coupling Extraction at Future High-Luminosity Electron-Positron Collider

One of the most challenging tasks for future high-luminosity electron-positron colliders is to extract Higgs triple coupling. It was proposed that this can be carried out via the precisely measuring the cross section of ZH associated production up to $0.4\%$. In this paper, we example the possible heavy pollution from Higgs-top anomalous coupling. Our numerical results show that the pollution is small for $\sqrt{s}_{e^+e^-}= 240 GeV$. However for the higher energy collider, pollution is sizable, which should be taken into account. We further explored the possibility to measure CP-violated Higgs top coupling, via the forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$ for the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow ZH$. The asymmetry can reach $0.7\%$ which is comparable to the precision of cross section measurement.

Invisible Higgs Decay at the LHeC

The possibility that the 125 GeV Higgs boson may decay into invisible non-standard-model (non-SM) particles is theoretically and phenomenologically intriguing. In this letter we investigate the sensitivity of the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) to an invisibly decaying Higgs, in its proposed high luminosity running mode. We focus on the neutral current Higgs production channel which offers more kinematical handles than its charged current counterpart. The signal contains one electron, one jet and large missing energy. With a cut-based parton level analysis, we estimate that if the $hZZ$ coupling is at its standard model (SM) value, then assuming an integrated luminosity of $1\,\mbox{ab}^{-1}$ the LHeC with the proposed 60 GeV electron beam (with $-0.9$ polarization) and 7 TeV proton beam is capable of probing $\mathrm{Br}(h\rightarrow E\!\!\!\!/_T)=6\%$ at $2σ$ level. Good lepton veto performance (especially hadronic $τ$ veto) in the forward region is crucial to the suppression of the dominant $Wje$ background. We also explicitly point out the important role that may be played by the LHeC in probing a wide class of exotic Higgs decay processes and emphasize the general function of lepton-hadron colliders in precision study of new resonances after their discovery in hadron-hadron collisions.

A New Paradigm: Role of Electron-positron and Hadron Colliders

In 2012, a light scalar boson (denoted as H(125) in this paper) was discovered at the LHC. We explore the possible correlation between the lightness of H(125) and the smallness of CP-violation based on the Lee model, namely the spontaneous CP-violation two-Higgs-doublet-model. It is a new way to understand why H(125) is light. Based on this we propose that it is the much heavier scalar bosons, instead of the H(125), which need to be understood. This opens a new paradigm that one tries to understand the electro-weak symmetry breaking and CP violation. For the new paradigm, similar to many other physics beyond the standard model, one need both electron-positron and higher energy hadron collider, as well as the low energy experiments, in order to pin down the whole picture.

Charged Higgs Boson: Tracer of the Physics beyond Standard Model

Charged Higgs boson can exist in many physics beyond the standard models (BSM) and it is the obvious BSM signal. We briefly describe why the 125GeV scalar discovered at the LHC must have (heavy) companion: the charged Higgs boson, in a new paradigm. We then focus on the charged Higgs phenomenology, especially on how to measure $\tanβ$ precisely utilizing the top quark polarization information.

On Extra Neutral and Charged Higgs bosons at the LHC

The properties of 125 GeV new particle, which was discovered in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), are found to be consistent with those of the Higgs boson in the standard model (SM). Hereafter the new particle is dubbed as SM-like Higgs boson. However there is still spacious room for physics beyond the SM (BSM) due to the limited energy and luminosity of the LHC. With more data, experiments will scrutinize whether the new particle is indeed the SM one or not. At the same time, one believes that discovery of the SM-like Higgs boson is just the start of the new era of particle physics. The predominant topic is whether there are others new Higgs bosons as speculated in various BSM models. In this short review we willdescribe the current status of Higgs physics at the LHC and several BSM models which contain more Higgs sectors. In literature there are numerous studies on extended Higgs sector and a comprehensive review is beyond the scopeof this review. Instead, we will present two latest studies on Higgs physics: (1) how to detect the charged Higgs boson and measure $\tanβ$ after including the top polarization information, and (2) how todiscover the extra neutral Higgs boson via the pair production of SM-like Higgs boson.

Complex Vacuum and Lightness of Higgs Boson

The CP violation observed in K- and B-mesons can be successfully accommodated via the CKM matrix in the standard model. However the additional CP violation is required in order to induce the matter and anti-matter asymmetry observed in the Universe. The additional CP violation can be induced by complex vacuum, namely the spontaneous CP violation. In this paper we reveal the intimate connection of the spontaneous CP violation and the lightness of the Higgs boson, which was recently discovered by ATLAS and CMS at the LHC.

Discovering extra Higgs boson via pair production of the SM-like Higgs bosons

In the standard model (SM), pair production rate of Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is quite low. One usually think that it is extremely important for the measurement of triple Higgs coupling at the high luminosity LHC. In this paper, we propose to search for the extra Higgs boson (denoted as $S$) utilizing pair production of the SM-like Higgs boson ($H$) which was discovered in July, 2012.The pair production of $H$ can be huge due to the resonant production of heavy scalar $S$, namely $PP \rightarrow S \rightarrow HH$. The couplings of $H$ with weak gauge boson are similar to ones in the SM and it implies that the couplings between $S$ and gauge bosons are likely suppressed. Provided that $S$ is heavy enough, the decay into weak gauge bosons may not be the dominant modes. Instead $S$ can decay into a pair of $H$ and offer the promising channel to discover it. In this paper, we studied the 5 promising decay modes of $H$, i.e. $b\bar{b}$, $WW^*$, $ZZ^*$, $γγ$ and $τ^+τ^-$, and simulated the signals and backgrounds for the 15 combination modes for $HH$ at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}= 14$ TeV and integrated luminosity $\mathcal{L}=1000fb^{-1}$. We found that with the help of suitable selection rules, very good signal to background ratio $S/B$ can be archived in many decay channels, for example $b\bar b+ (WW^*, ZZ^*, γγ, τ^+τ^-)$, $WW^*+(WW^*, ZZ^*, γγ, τ^+τ^-)$ and $τ^+τ^- +(γγ, τ^+τ^-)$. For the detailed results please refer to Table \ref{tab:discovery} in the text. On the contrary, $b\bar b b\bar b$ mode is less important due to the huge QCD background. However if one has excellent control on light jet mis-tagging, the $b\bar b b\bar b$ mode can be promising to discover the extra Higgs boson due to its the largest branching ratio compared to other modes.

Searching for Charged Higgs Boson in Polarized Top Quark

The charged Higgs boson is quite common in many new physics models. In this study we examine the potential of observing a heavy charged Higgs boson in its decay mode of top-quark and bottom-quark in the Type-II Two-Higgs-Doublet-Model. In this model, the chirality structure of the coupling of charged Higgs boson to the top- and bottom-quark is very sensitive to the value of $\tanβ$. As the polarization of the top-quark can be measured experimentally from the top-quark decay products, one could make use of the top-quark polarization to determine the value of $\tanβ$. We preform a detailed analysis of measuring top-quark polarization in the production channels $gb\to tH^-$ and $g\bar{b}\to \bar{t}H^+$. We calculate the helicity amplitudes of the charged Higgs boson production and decay. Our calculation shows that the top-quark from the charged Higgs boson decay provides a good probe for measuring $\tanβ$, especially for the intermediate $\tanβ$ region. On the contrary, the top-quark produced in association with the charged Higgs boson cannot be used to measure $\tanβ$ because its polarization is highly contaminated by the $t$-channel kinematics.

A simple algorithm for automatic Feynman diagram generation

An algorithm for the automatic Feynman diagram (FD) generation is presented in this paper. The algorithm starts directly from the definition formula of FD, and is simple in concept and easy for coding. The symmetry factor for each FD is naturally generated. It is expected to bring convenience for the researchers who are studying new calculation techniques or making new calculation tools and for the researchers who are studying effective field theory. A C-program made from the algorithm is also presented, which is short, fast, yet very general purpose: it receives arbitrary user defined model and arbitrary process as input and generates FD's at any order.

Constraints on the Universal Varying Yukawa Couplings: from SM-like to Fermiophobic

Varying the Standard Model (SM) fermion Yukawa couplings universally by a generic positive scale factor ($F_{Yu}$), we study the phenomenological fit to the current available experimental results for the Higgs boson search at hadron colliders. We point out that the Higgs production cross section and its decay branching ratio to $γγ$ can be varied oppositely by $F_{Yu}$ to make their product almost invariant. Thus, our scenario and the SM Higgs are indistinguishable in the inclusive $H\to γγ$ channel. The current measurements on direct Yukawa coupling strength in the $H\to b\bar{b}/ττ$ channel are not precise enough to fix the scale factor $F_{Yu}$. The most promising is the vector-boson-fusion channel in which the CMS has already observed possible suppression effect on the Yukawa couplings. Further more, the global $χ^2$ fit of the experimental data can get the optimal value by introducing a suppression factor $F_{Yu}\sim1/2$ on the SM Yukawa couplings.

Cosmic Rays during BBN as Origin of Lithium Problem

There may be non-thermal cosmic rays during big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) epoch (dubbed as BBNCRs). This paper investigated whether such BBNCRs can be the origin of Lithium problem or not. It can be expected that BBNCRs flux will be small in order to keep the success of standard BBN (SBBN). With favorable assumptions on the BBNCR spectrum between 0.09 -- 4 MeV, our numerical calculation showed that extra contributions from BBNCRs can account for the $^7$Li abundance successfully. However $^6$Li abundance is only lifted an order of magnitude, which is still much lower than the observed value. As the deuteron abundance is very sensitive to the spectrum choice of BBNCRs, the allowed parameter space for the spectrum is strictly constrained. We should emphasize that the acceleration mechanism for BBNCRs in the early universe is still an open question. For example, strong turbulent magnetic field is probably the solution to the problem. Whether such a mechanism can provide the required spectrum deserves further studies.

Four Jets as a Probe of O(100 GeV) Physics beyond Standard Model at Hadron Colliders

O(100 GeV) physics beyond the standard model (BSM) could be overlooked provided that it is hidden in the untouched Higgs sector or jets. The top quark forward-backward asymmetry measurements and di-jet bump, which is observed in the associated production with charged lepton plus missing energy (supposed arising from W decay), may indicate the existence of a new color-octet axial-vector Z_C with a mass about 145 GeV. Here Z_C only decays into two jets. In this paper we investigated the possibility to discover Z_C pair via analyzing the four jets as the final states, which are heavily polluted by huge QCD background. Our simulation showed that, however, both Tevatron and LHC have the excellent chance to discover Z_C through analyzing the four jets events in the current accumulated data.

Toward the Natural and Realistic NMSSM with and without R-Parity

From the current ATLAS and CMS results on Higgs boson mass and decay rates, the NMSSM is obviously better than the MSSM. To explain the fine-tuning problems such as gauge hiearchy problem and strong CP problem in the SM, we point out that supersymmetry does not need to provide a dark matter candidate, i.e., R-parity can be violated. Thus, we consider three kinds of the NMSSM scenarios: in Scenarios I and II R-parity is conserved and the lightest neutralino relic density is respectively around and smaller than the observed value, while in Scenario III R-parity is violated. To fit all the experimental data, we consider the χ^2 analyses, and find that the Higgs boson mass and decay rates can be explained very well in these Scenarios. Considering the small χ^2 values and fine-tuning around 2-3.7% (or 1-2%), we obtain the viable parameter space with light (or relatively heavy) supersymmetric particle spectra only in Scenario III (or in Scenarios I and II). Because the singlino, Higgsinos, and light stop are relatively light in general, we can relax the LHC supersymmetry search constraints but the XENON100 experiment gives a strong constraint in Scenarios I and II. In all the viable parameter space, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon (g_μ - 2)/2 are generically small. With R-parity violation, we can increase (g_μ - 2)/2, and avoid the contraints from the LHC supersymmetry searches and XENON100 experiment. Therefore, Scenario III with R-parity violation is more natural and realistic than Scenarios I and II.

$\mathscr{O}(100 GeV)$ Deci-weak $W^\prime/Z^\prime$ at Tevatron and LHC

Recently Tevatron released their measurements on invariant mass spectrum of electron/positron, as well as the di-jet arising from WW+WZ production with one W leptonically decay. Though the statistics is not significant, there are two bumps around 240 GeV and 120-160 GeV respectively. We proposed that the two bumps correspond to the extra light gauge bosons $Z^\prime$ and $W^\prime$, which couple with quarks with the deci-weak strength. In this brief report, we also simulated di-jet invariant mass distribution at the current running LHC.

Discriminating Different $Z^\prime$s via Asymmetries at the LHC

In practice the asymmetry, which is defined based on the angular distribution of the final states in scattering or decay processes, can be utilized to scrutinize underlying dynamics in and/or beyond the standard model (BSM). As one of the possible BSM physics which might be discovered early at the LHC, extra neutral gauge bosons $Z^\prime$s are theoretical well motivated. Once $Z^\prime$s are discovered at the LHC, it is crucial to discriminate different $Z^\prime$s in various BSM. In principle such task can be accomplished by measuring the angular distribution of the final states which are produced via $Z^\prime$-mediated processes. In the real data analysis, asymmetry is always adopted. In literature several asymmetries have been proposed at the LHC. Based on these works, we stepped further on to study how to optimize the asymmetries in the left-right model and the sequential standard model, as the examples of BSM. In this paper, we examined four kinds of asymmetries, namely rapidity-dependent forward-backward asymmetry, one-side forward-backward asymmetry, central charge asymmetry and edge charge asymmetry (see text for details), with $\ell^+\ell^-$ ($\ell=e,μ$), $b\bar b$ and $t\bar t$ as the final states. In the calculations with $b\bar b$ and $t\bar t$ final states, the QCD-induced higher order contributions to the asymmetric cross section were also included. For each kind of final states, we estimated the four kinds of asymmetries and especially the optimal cut usually associated with the definition of the asymmetry. Our numerical results indicated that the capacity to discriminate $Z^\prime$ models can be improved by imposing the optimal cuts.

Edge Charge Asymmetry in Top Pair Production at the LHC

In this brief report, we propose a new definition of charge asymmetry in top pair production at the LHC, namely the edge charge asymmetry (ECA). ECA utilizes the information of drifting direction only for single top (or anti-top) with hadronically decay. Therefore ECA can be free from the uncertainty arising from the missing neutrino in the $t\bar{t}$ event reconstruction. Moreover rapidity $Y$ of top (or anti-top) is required to be greater than a critical value $Y_{\rm C}$ in order to suppress the symmetric $t\bar{t}$ events mainly due to the gluon-gluon fusion process. In this paper ECA is calculated up to next-to-leading order QCD in the standard model and the choice of the optimal $Y_{\rm C}$ is investigated.

New color-octet axial vector boson revisited

In this paper we re-examine how to utilize the previous proposed color-octet axial-vector boson $Z_{\rm C}$ to explain the $3.4σ$ anomaly of $t\bar t$ forward-backward (FB) asymmetry $A_{\rm FB}$ for $m_{t\bar t}> 450$GeV observed by CDF. Our numerical results indicate that the best-fit parameters are $g_A^q=0.07$, $g_A^Q=3$, and $M_{\rm C}=440\text{GeV}$, which are obtained by fitting the mass dependent $A_{\rm FB}$ and total cross section data provided by a recent CDF measurement. Here $g_A^q (g_A^Q)$ and $M_{\rm C}$ are the axial couplings among $Z_{\rm C}$ with the first two (the third) generation quarks, and $Z_{\rm C}$ mass respectively. We also calculate one-side forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm OFB}$ for top and bottom quark pair production at the LHC, focusing on the new contributions from $Z_{\rm C}$. Our studies show that $A_{\rm OFB}$ can be utilized to measure the properties of new particle $Z_{\rm C}$.

New Color-Octet Vector Boson Revisit

Motivated by CDF recent measurements on di-jet invariant mass spectrum where di-jet is associated production with charged leptons ($e/μ$) and missing energy, we re-examine the previous proposed massive color-octet axial-vector-like boson $Z_c$. Our simulation showed that the di-jet bump around 120-160 GeV can be induced by $Z_c$ with effective coupling $g_{Z_c q \bar q} =0.2 g_s$ (q represents the quark other than top and $g_s$ is the strong coupling constant). Moreover our numerical investigation indicated that the top quark forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}^t$ can be reproduced without distorting shape of differential cross section $dσ/d M_{t\bar t}$, provided that the $Z_c$ and top quark coupling is appropriately chosen ($g_{Z_c t \bar t} \simeq 4.5 g_{Z_c q \bar q}$). Our results also showed that the theoretical $A_{FB}^t$ as functions of $Δy$ and $M_{t\bar t}$ can be consistent with data within $1σ$ and $1.8σ$ respectively.

One-side forward-backward asymmetry at the LHC

Forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm FB}$ is an essential observable to study the nature of coupling in the standard model and physics beyond the standard model, as shown at LEP and Tevatron. As a proton-proton collider, the LHC does not have the preferred direction contrary to her counterpart, namely, LEP and Tevatron. Therefore $A_{\rm FB}$ is not applicable at the LHC. However for the proton the momentum of valence quark is usually larger than that of the sea quark. Utilizing this feature we have defined a so-called one-side forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm OFB}$ for the top quark pair production at LHC in the previous work. In this paper we extend our studies to the charged leptons and bottom quarks as the final states. Our numerical results show that at the LHC $A_{\rm OFB}$ can be utilized to study the nature of the couplings once enough events are collected.

Detecting light long-lived particle produced by cosmic ray

We investigate the possibility of detecting light long-lived particle (LLP) produced by high energy cosmic ray colliding with atmosphere. The LLP may penetrate the atmosphere and decay into a pair of muons near/in the neutrino telescope. Such muons can be treated as the detectable signal for neutrino telescope. This study is motivated by recent cosmic electron/positron observations which suggest the existence of $O(TeV)$ dark matter and new light $O(GeV)$ particle. It indicates that dark sector may be complicated, and there may exist more than one light particles, for example the dark gauge boson $A'$ and associated dark Higgs boson $h'$. In this work, we discuss the scenario with $A'$ heavier than $h'$ and $h'$ is treated as LLP. Based on our numerical estimation, we find that the large volume neutrino telescope IceCube has the capacity to observe several tens of di-muon events for favorable parameters if the decay length of LLP can be comparable with the depth of atmosphere. The challenge here is how to suppress the muon backgrounds induced by cosmic rays and atmospheric neutrinos.

Forward-backward asymmetry and differential cross section of top quark in flavor violating $Z'$ model at $\mathscr{O}(α_s^2 α_X)$

In this paper, forward-backward asymmetry and differential cross section of top quark in flavor violating $Z'$ model up to $\mathscr{O}(α_s^2 α_X)$ at Tevatron are calculated. In order to account for the top observed large forward-backward asymmetry, the new coupling $g_X$ among $Z'$ and quarks will be not much less than strong coupling constant $g_s$. After including the new higher order correction, the differential cross section can fit the data better than those only including the leading contributions from $Z'$, while the forward-backward asymmetry is still in agreement with the measurement.

Gamma rays and neutrinos from dark matter annihilation in galaxy clusters

The $γ$-ray and neutrino emissions from dark matter (DM) annihilation in galaxy clusters are studied. After about one year operation of Fermi-LAT, several nearby clusters are reported with stringent upper limits of GeV $γ$-ray emission. We use the Fermi-LAT upper limits of these clusters to constrain the DM model parameters. We find that the DM model distributed with substructures predicted in cold DM (CDM) scenario is strongly constrained by Fermi-LAT $γ$-ray data. Especially for the leptonic annihilation scenario which may account for the $e^{\pm}$ excesses discovered by PAMELA/Fermi-LAT/HESS, the constraint on the minimum mass of substructures is of the level $10^2-10^3$ M$_{\odot}$, which is much larger than that expected in CDM picture, but is consistent with a warm DM scenario. We further investigate the sensitivity of neutrino detections of the clusters by IceCube. It is found that neutrino detection is much more difficult than $γ$-rays. Only for very heavy DM ($\sim 10$ TeV) together with a considerable branching ratio to line neutrinos the neutrino sensitivity is comparable with that of $γ$-rays.

Neutrino Constraints on Inelastic Dark Matter after CDMS II

We discuss the neutrino constraints from solar and terrestrial dark matter (DM) annihilations in the inelastic dark matter (iDM) scenario after the recent CDMS II results. To reconcile the DAMA/LIBRA data with constraints from all other direct experiments, the iDM needs to be light ($m_χ< 100$ GeV) and have a large DM-nucleon cross section ($σ_n \sim$ 10$^{-4}$ pb in the spin-independent (SI) scattering and $σ_n \sim$ 10 pb in the spin-dependent (SD) scattering). The dominant contribution to the iDM capture in the Sun is from scattering off Fe/Al in the SI/SD case. Current bounds from Super-Kamiokande exclude the hard DM annihilation channels, such as $W^+W^-$, $ZZ$, $t\bar{t}$ and $τ^+ τ^-$. For soft channels such as $b\bar{b}$ and $c \bar{c}$, the limits are loose, but could be tested or further constrained by future IceCube plus DeepCore. For neutrino constraints from the DM annihilation in the Earth, due to the weaker gravitational effect of the Earth and inelastic capture condition, the constraint exists only for small mass splitting $δ<$ 40 keV and $m_χ\sim (10, 50)$ GeV even in the $τ^+ τ^-$ channel.

New Color-Octet Vector Boson?

Both CDF and D0 at Tevatron reported the measurements of forward-backward asymmetry in top pair production, which showed possible deviation from the standard model QCD prediction. In this paper, we show that a new color-octet massive vector boson with mass just above twice that of top quark can simultaneously account for the asymmetry and differential distribution $dσ/dM_{t\bar t}$ in top pair production, without conflict with other measurements for example di-jet production. The new particle can be discovered and studied at the more powerful Large Hadron Collider.

Study of V_LV_L to t tbar at the ILC Including O(alpha_s) QCD Corrections

In the event that the Higgs mass is large or that the electroweak interactions are strongly interacting at high energy, top quark couplings to longitudinal components of the weak gauge bosons could offer important clues to the underlying dynamics. It has been suggested that precision measurements of W_L W_L to t tbar and Z_L Z_L to t tbar might provide hints of new physics. In this paper we present results of O(alpha_s) QCD corrections to V_LV_L to t tbar scattering at the ILC. We find that corrections to cross sections can be as large as 30% and must be accounted for in any precision measurement of VV to t tbar.

B_s \to \ell^+ \ell^- in a model II 2HDM and MSSM

In this paper we analyze the process $B_s \to \ell^+ \ell^-$ in a model II 2HDM and MSSM. All the leading terms of Wilson coefficients relevant to the process are given in the large tan$β$ limit. It is shown that the decay width for $B_s \to \ell^+ \ell^-$ depends on all parameters except $m_{A^0}$ in the 2HDM. The branching ratio of $B_s \to μ^+ μ^-$ can reach its experimental bound in some large tan$β$ regions of the parameter space in MSSM because the amplitude increases like tan$^3β$ in the regions. For l=$τ$, the branching ratio can even reach $10^{-4}$ in the regions. Therefore, the experimental measurements of leptonic decays of $B_s$ could put a constraint on the contributions of neutral Higgs bosons and consequently the parameter space in MSSM.

Exclusive semileptonic rare decays $B ->_ ($K,K^*) \ell^+ \ell^- in supersymmetric theories

The invariant mass spectrum, forward-backward asymmetry, and lepton polarizations of the exclusive processes $B\to K(K^*)\ell^+ \ell^-, \ell=μ, τ$ are analyzed under supersymmetric context. Special attention is paid to the effects of neutral Higgs bosons (NHBs). Our analysis shows that the branching ratio of the process $\bkm$ can be quite largely modified by the effects of neutral Higgs bosons and the forward-backward asymmetry would not vanish. For the process $\bksm$, the lepton transverse polarization is quite sensitive to the effects of NHBs, while the invariant mass spectrum, forward-backward asymmetry, and lepton longitudinal polarization are not. For both $\bkt$ and $\bkst$, the effects of NHBs are quite significant. The partial decay widths of these processes are also analyzed, and our analysis manifest that even taking into account the theoretical uncertainties in calculating weak form factors, the effects of NHBs could make SUSY shown up.

Radiative Higgs Boson Decays H\to f\bar{f}γBeyond the Standard Model

Neutral Higgs boson radiative decays of the form h_0, H, A \to f\bar{f}γ, in the light fermion limit $m_f->0, are calculated in the two Higgs doublet model at one-loop level. Comparisons with the calculation within the standard model are given, which indicates that these two models are distinguishable in the decay mode fermion-antifermion -photon. Our results show that the concerned process may stand as an implement to identify the Higgs belongings in case there is a intermediate mass Higgs detected.

Top Quark Loop Corrections to the Neutral Higgs Boson Production at the Fermilab Tevatron

We calculate the $O(αm_t^2/m^2_W)$ corrections arising from diagrams involving the top-quark loops to the light neutral Higgs boson production via $q\bar q'\to WH$ at the Fermilab Tevatron in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric model. In contrast to the QCD correction which increases the tree-level cross section, the corrections imply a few percent reduction in the production cross section relative to the tree-leve results.
