The International Linear Collider: Report to Snowmass 2021

The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Its experiments will challenge the Standard Model of particle physics and will provide a new window to look beyond it. This document brings the story of the ILC up to date, emphasizing its strong physics motivation, its readiness for construction, and the opportunity it presents to the US and the global particle physics community.

Observing Axion Emission from Supernova with Collider Detectors

We consider a possibility to observe the axion emission from a nearby supernova (SN) in the future, which can be known in advance by the pre-SN alert system, by collider detectors like the LHC detectors (i.e., the ATLAS and the CMS) and the ILC detectors (i.e., the ILD and SiD). The axion from the SN can be converted to the photon by the strong magnetic field in the detector and the photon can be detected by electromagnetic calorimeter. We estimate the numbers of signal and background events due to a nearby SN and show that the number of signal may be sizable. The axion emission from a nearby SN may be observed if, at the time of the SN, the beam is stopped and the detector operation is switched to the one for the SN axion search.

Study on Cooling of Positronium for Bose-Einstein Condensation

A new method of cooling positronium down is proposed to realize Bose-Einstein condensation of positronium. We perform detail studies about three processes (1) thermalization processes between positronium and silica walls of a cavity, (2) Ps-Ps scatterings and (3) Laser cooling. The thermalization process is shown to be not sufficient for BEC. Ps-Ps collision is also shown to make a big effect on the cooling performance. We combine both methods and establish an efficient cooling for BEC. We also propose a new optical laser system for the cooling.

Discriminating Minimal SUGRA and Minimal Gauge Mediation Models at the Early LHC

Among various supersymmetric (SUSY) standard models, the gravity mediation model with a neutralino LSP and the gauge mediation model with a very light gravitino are attractive from the cosmological view point. These models have different scales of SUSY breaking and their underlying physics in high energy is quite different. However, if the sparticles' decay into the gravitino is prompt in the latter case, their collider signatures can be similar: multiple jets and missing transverse momentum. In this paper, we study the discrimination between these models in minimal cases at the LHC based on the method using the significance variables in several different modes and show the discrimination is possible at a very early stage after the discovery.

Drell-Yan Production of Z' in the Three-Site Higgsless Model at the LHC

In the Higgsless models, there are extra gauge bosons which keep the perturbative unitarity of a longitudinally polarized gauge boson. The three-site Higgsless model is a minimal Higgsless model and contains three extra gauge bosons, $W^{\prime \pm}$ and Z'. In this paper, we report the discovery potential of the Z' gauge boson via Drell-Yan production with Z'(mass=380, 500, 600 GeV) $\rightarrow WW \rightarrow \ellνqq$ ($\ell=e$, $μ$) at the LHC ($\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV).

Stau Kinks at the LHC

The kink signature of charged tracks is predicted in some SUSY models, and it is very characteristic signal at collider experiments. We study the kink signature at LHC using two models, SUSY models with a gravitino LSP and a stau NLSP, and R-parity violating SUSY models with a stau (N)LSP. We find that a large number of kink events can be discovered in a wide range of the SUSY parameters, when the decay length is O(10-10^5)mm. Model discrimination by identifying the daughter particles of the kink tracks is also discussed.
