Discriminating Quantum Correlations with Networking Quantum Teleportation

The Bell inequality, and its substantial experimental violation, offers a seminal paradigm for showing that the world is not in fact locally realistic. Here, going beyond the scope of Bell's inequality on physical states, we show that quantum teleportation can be used to quantitatively characterize quantum correlations of physical processes. The validity of the proposed formalism is demonstrated by considering the problem of teleportation through a linear three-node quantum network. A hierarchy is derived between the Bell nonlocality, nonbilocality, steering and nonlocality-steering hybrid correlations based on a process fidelity constraint. The proposed framework can be directly extended to reveal the nonlocality structure of teleportation through any linear many-node quantum network. The formalism provides a faithful identification of quantum teleportation and demonstrates the use of quantum-information processing as a means of quantitatively discriminating quantum correlations.

Nonclassical Preparation of Quantum Remote States

Remote state preparation (RSP) enables a sender to remotely prepare the quantum state of a receiver without sending the state itself. Recently, it has been recognized that quantum discord is a necessary resource for RSP. Here, we theoretically and experimentally investigate whether RSP can outperform dynamic classical remote state preparation processes. We show that such classical processes can describe certain RSPs powered by quantum discord. Rather, we argue that a new kind of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering for dynamical processes, called quantum process steering, is the resource required for performing nonclassical RSP. We show how to measure quantum process steering by experimentally realizing nonclassical RSP of photonic quantum systems. Moreover, we demonstrate the transition from classical to quantum RSP. Our results also have applications in realizing genuine quantum RSP for quantum-enabled engineering.

Quantum Process Capability

Physical processes in the quantum regime possess non-classical properties of quantum mechanics. However, methods for quantitatively identifying such processes are still lacking. Accordingly, in this study, we develop a framework for characterizing and quantifying the ability of processes to cause quantum-mechanical effects on physical systems. We start by introducing a new concept, referred to as quantum process capability, to evaluate the effects of an experimental process upon a prescribed quantum specification. Various methods are then introduced for measuring such a capability. It is shown that the methods are adapted to quantum process tomography for implementation of process capability measure and applicable to all physical processes that can be described using the general theory of quantum operations. The utility of the proposed framework is demonstrated through several examples, including processes of entanglement, coherence, and superposition. The formalism proposed in this study provides a generic approach for the identification of dynamical processes in quantum mechanics and facilitates the general classification of quantum-information processing.
