Tube algebra of group-type subfactors

We describe the tube algebra and its representations in the cases of diagonal and Bisch-Haagerup subfactors possibly with a scalar 3-cocycle obstruction. We show that these categories are additively equivalent to the direct product over conjugacy classes of representation category of a centralizer subgroup (corresponding to the conjugacy class) twisted by a scalar 2-cocycle obtained from the 3-cocycle obstruction.

Annular representation theory for rigid $C^{*}$-tensor categories

We define annular algebras for rigid $C^{*}$-tensor categories, providing a unified framework for both Ocneanu's tube algebra and Jones' affine annular category of a planar algebra. We study the representation theory of annular algebras, and show that all sufficiently large (full) annular algebras for a category are isomorphic after tensoring with the algebra of matrix units with countable index set, hence have equivalent representation theories. Annular algebras admit a universal $C^{*}$-algebra closure analogous to the universal $C^{*}$-algebra for groups. These algebras have interesting corner algebras indexed by some set of isomorphism classes of objects, which we call centralizer algebras. The centralizer algebra corresponding to the identity object is canonically isomorphic to the fusion algebra of the category, and we show that the admissible representations of the fusion algebra of Popa and Vaes are precisely the restrictions of arbitrary (non-degenerate) $*$-representations of full annular algebras. This allows approximation and rigidity properties defined for categories by Popa and Vaes to be interpreted in the context of annular representation theory. This perspective also allows us to define "higher weight" approximation properties based on other centralizer algebras of an annular algebra. Using the analysis of annular representations due to Jones and Reznikoff, we identify all centralizer algebras for the $TLJ(δ)$ categories for $δ\ge 2$.

Drinfeld center of planar algebra

We introduce fusion, contragradient and braiding of Hilbert affine representations of a subfactor planar algebra $P$ (not necessarily having finite depth). We prove that if $N \subset M$ is a subfactor realization of $P$, then the Drinfeld center of the $N$-$N$-bimodule category generated by $_N L^2 (M)_M$, is equivalent to the category of Hilbert affine representations of $P$ satisfying certain finiteness criterion. As a consequence, we prove Kevin Walker's conjecture for planar algebras.

Affine modules and the Drinfeld Center

Given a finite index subfactor, we show that the {\em affine morphisms at zero level} in the affine category over the planar algebra associated to the subfactor is isomorphic to the fusion algebra of the subfactor as a *-algebra. This identification paves the way to analyze the structure of affine $P$-modules with weight zero for any subfactor planar algebra $P$ (possibly having infinite depth). Further, for irreducible depth two subfactor planar algebras, we establish an additive equivalence between the category of affine $P$-modules and the center of the category of $N$-$N$-bimodules generated by $L^2(M)$; this partially verifies a conjecture of Jones and Walker.

Perturbations of planar algebras

We analyze the effect of pivotal structures (on a 2-category) on the planar algebra associated to a 1-cell as in \cite{Gho08} and come up with the notion of {\em perturbations of planar algebras by weights} (a concept that appeared earlier in Michael Burns' thesis \cite{Bur03}); we establish a one-to-one correspondence between weights and pivotal structures. Using the construction of \cite{Gho08}, to each bifinite bimodule over $II_1$-factors, we associate a {\em bimodule planar algebra} in such a way that extremality of the bimodule corresponds to sphericality of the planar algebra. As a consequence of this, we reproduce an extension of Jones' theorem (\cite{Jon}) (of associating `subfactor planar algebras' to extremal subfactors). Conversely, given a bimodule planar algebra, we construct a bifinite bimodule whose associated bimodule planar algebra is the one which we start with, using perturbations and Jones-Walker-Shlyakhtenko-Kodiyalam-Sunder method of reconstructing an extremal subfactor from a subfactor planar algebra. The perturbation technique helps us to construct an example of a family of non-spherical planar algebras starting from a particular spherical one; we also show that this family is associated to a known family of subfactors constructed by Jones.

Planar algebras: a category theoretic point of view

We define Jones's planar algebra as a map of multicategories and constuct a planar algebra starting from a 1-cell in a pivotal strict 2-category. We prove finiteness results for the affine representations of finite depth planar algebras. We also show that the radius of convergence of the dimension of an affine representation of the planar algebra associated to a finite depth subfactor is at least as big as the inverse-square of the modulus.

Weights on bimodules

The concept of a {\em weight} on a planar algebra was introduced in \cite{DGG}. In this article we give an alternate characterization of weights on a planar algebra in terms of `weight functions' on the vertices of the principal graphs. Using this characterization we show that the property of bifinite bimodules of having a `trivial perturbation class' is closed under Connes fusion. We give a direct and constructive method of perturbing a bifinite bimodule by a positive weight in such a way that the bimodule planar algebra of the perturbed bimodule is isomorphic to the perturbation of the one associated to the initial bimodule by the given weight.
