Attenuated gravitational radiation

The hypothesis of an alternative way of obtaining gravitational waves is the physical motivation of this article. Using the linear field approximation and a symmetry transformation of the affine connection, new field equations and new gauge conditions have been obtained. Solutions to these field equations have been considered in the empty space and in the wave zone, and in both of them the oscillation amplitudes of their solutions are attenuated exponentially. We expect that these solutions can be useful for building more sophisticated gravitational wave models, and also as an impulse for researching further symmetry transformations of general relativity.

Quaternionic scalar field in the real Hilbert space

Using the complex Klein-Gordon field as a model, we quantize the quaternionic scalar field in the real Hilbert space. The lagrangian formulation has accordingly been obtained, as well as the hamiltonian formulation, and the energy and charge operators. Conversely to the complex case, the quaternionic quantization admits two quantization schemes, concerning either two or four components. Therefore, the quaternionic field permits a richer structure of states, if compared to the complex scalar field case. Moreover, the quaternionic theory admits as a further novel feature a non-associative algebraic structure in their complex components, something not observed in the complex case.

A complementary covariant approach to gravito-electromagnetism

From a previous paper where we proposed a description of general relativity within the gravito-electromagnetic limit, we propose an alternative modified gravitational theory. As in the former version, we analyze the vector and tensor equations of motion, the gravitational continuity equation, the conservation of the energy, the energy-momentum tensor, the field tensor, and the constraints concerning these fields. The Lagrangian formulation is also exhibited as an unified and simple formulation that will be useful for future investigation.

Quaternionic Dirac free particle

We solve the quaternionic Dirac equation ($\mathbbm H$DE) in the real Hilbert space, and we ascertain that their free particle solutions set comprises eight elements in the case of a massive particle, and a four elements solution set in the case of a massless particle, a richer situation when compared to the four elements solutions set of the usual complex Dirac equation ($\mathbbm C$DE). These free particle solutions were unknown in the previous solutions of anti-hermitian quaternionic quantum mechanics, and constitute an essential element in order to build a quaternionic quantum field theory ($\mathbbm H$QFT).

Quaternionic quantum harmonic oscillator

In this article we obtained the harmonic oscillator solution for quaternionic quantum mechanics ($\mathbbm{H}$QM) in the real Hilbert space, both in the analytic method and in the algebraic method. The quaternionic solutions have many additional possibilities if compared to complex quantum mechanics ($\mathbbm{C}$QM), and thus there are many possible applications to these results in future research.

A novel covariant approach to gravito-electromagnetism

This paper describes general relativity at the gravito-electromagnetic precision level as a constrained field theory. In this novel formulation, the gravity field comprises two auxiliary fields, a static matter field and a moving matter field. Equations of motion, continuity equation, energy conservation, field tensor, energy-momentum tensor, constraints and Lagrangian formulation are presented as a simple and unified formulation that can be useful for future research.

Quaternionic elastic scattering

We study the elastic scattering of quantum particles based on a real Hilbert space approach to quaternionic quantum mechanics ($\mathbbm H$QM) and derive expression for the wave function, the phase shifts, as well as the optical theorem for the case of a hard sphere scattering potential. The strong agreement between these new quaternionic results and the corresponding results in complex quantum mechanics reinforce the validity of the $\mathbbm H$QM generalization of ordinary complex quantum mechanics ($\mathbbm C$QM).

Square-well potential in quaternic quantum mechanics

The one-dimensional infinite square well is the simplest solution of quantum mechanics, and consequently one of the most important. In this article, we provide this solution using the real Hilbert space approach to quaternic quantum mechanics ($\mathbbm{H}$QM). We further provide the one-dimensional finite as well and a method to generate quaternic solutions from non-degenerate complex solutions.

Virial theorem and generalized momentum in quaternic quantum mechanics

After a review on recent results on quaternic quantum mechanics ($\mathbb{H}$QM), we present further consistency tests that reinforce its compatibility with the usual complex quantum mechanics ($\mathbb{C}$QM). The novel results comprises the Virial theorem, the quantum quaternic Lorentz force, the existence of a quaternic magnetic monopole and the redefinition of the expectation value.

preprint2018arXiv

Quaternionic quantum mechanics in real Hilbert space

A formulation of quaternionic quantum mechanics ($\mathbb{H}$QM) is presented in terms of a real Hilbert space. Using a physically motivated scalar product, we prove the spectral theorem and obtain a novel quaternionic Fourier series. After a brief discussion on unitary operators in this formalism, we conclude that this quantum theory is indeed consistent, and can be a valuable tool in the search for new physics.

preprint2017arXiv

Non-anti-hermitian quaternionic quantum mechanics

The breakdown of Ehrenfest's theorem imposes serious limitations on quaternionic quantum mechanics (QQM). In order to determine the conditions in which the theorem is valid, we examined the conservation of the probability density, the expectation value and the classical limit for a non-anti-hermitian formulation of QQM. The results also indicated that the non-anti-hermitian quaternionic theory is related to non-hermitian quantum mechanics, and thus the physical problems described with both of the theories should be related.

Quaternionic particle in a relativistic box

This study examines Quaternion Dirac solutions for an infinite square well. The quaternion result does not recover the complex result within a particular limit. This raises the possibility that quaternionic quantum mechanics may not be understood as a correction to complex quantum mechanics, but it may also be a structure that can be used to study phenomena that cannot be described through the framework of complex quantum mechanics.

Quaternioninc Dirac Scattering

The scattering of a Dirac particle has been studied for a quaternionic potential step. In the potential region an additional diffusion solution is obtained. The quaternionic solution which generalizes the complex one presents an amplification of the reflection and transmission rates. A detailed analysis of the quaternionic spinorial velocities sheed new light on the additional solution. For pure quaternionic potentials, the interesting and surprising result of total transmission is found. This suggests that the presence of pure quaternionic potentials cannot be seen by analyzing the reflection or transmission rates. It has be observed by measuring the mean value of some operator.

Axisymmmetric empty space: light propagation, orbits and dark matter

This study presents a axisymmetric solution of the Einstein equations for empty space. The geometry is studied by determining its Petrov classification and Killing vectors. Light propagation, orbital motion and asymptotic and Newtonian limits are also studied. Additionally, cosmological applications of the geometry as an alternative model for the inflationary universe and as a substitute for dark matter and quintessence are also outlined.

Dirac solutions for quaternionic potentials

In this paper, the quaternionic Dirac equation is solved for quaternionic potentials, iV0+jW0. The study shows two different solutions. The first solution contains particles and anti-particles and leads to the diffusion, tunneling and Klein energy zones. The complex limit is recovered from this solution. The second solution, which does not have a complex counterpart, can be seen as a V0-antiparticle or |W0|-particle.

A non-associative quaternion scalar field theory

A non-associative Groenewold-Moyal plane is constructed using quaternion-valued function algebras. The symmetrized multi-particle states, the scalar product, the annihilation/creation algebra and d the formulation in terms of a Hopf algebra are also developed. Non-associative quantum algebras in terms of position and momentum operators are given as the simplest examples of a framework whose applications may involve string theory and non-linear quantum field theory

preprint2013arXiv

Angular invariant quantum mechanics in arbitrary dimension

One dimensional quantum mechanics problems, namely the infinite potential well, the harmonic oscillator, the free particle, the Dirac delta potential, the finite well and the finite barrier are generalized for finite arbitrary dimension in a radially symmetric, or angular invariant, manner. This generalization enables the Schrödinger equation solutions to be visualized for Bessel functions and Whittaker functions, and it also enables connections to multi-dimensional physics theories, like string theory.

Semi-classical strings in $(2+1)-$dimensional backgrounds

This study analyzes the geometrical relationship between a classical string and its semi-classical quantum model. From an arbitrary $(2+1)-$dimensional geometry, a specific ansatz for a classical string is used to generate a semi-classical quantum model. In this framework, examples of quantum oscillations and quantum free particles are presented that uniquely determine a classical string and the space-time geometry where its motion takes place.

preprint2013arXiv

The Static String

In this article the quantum fluctuation of a rigid and static string is reported to be identical to a free quantum particle. Solutions similar to this static string have already been found in the semi-classical quantizaton of pulsating strings, and our results show that the semi-classical quantization of pulsating strings is, in some cases, a perturbation of static strings. We also interpret the energy of the static string as a lower bound for the pulsating string and speculate about a description of quantum mechanics in terms of semi-classical string theory.

Lie $3-$algebra and super-affinization of split-octonions

The purpose of this study is to extend the concept of a generalized Lie $3-$ algebra, known to the divisional algebra of the octonions $\mathbb{O}$, to split-octonions $\mathbb{SO}$, which is non-divisional. This is achieved through the unification of the product of both of the algebras in a single operation. Accordingly, a notational device is introduced to unify the product of both algebras. We verify that $\mathbb{SO}$ is a Malcev algebra and we recalculate known relations for the structure constants in terms of the introduced structure tensor. Finally we construct the manifestly super-symmetric $\mathcal{N}=1\;\mathbb{SO}$ affine super-algebra. An application of the split Lie $3-$algebra for a Bagger and Lambert gauge theory is also discussed.

Pulsating Strings in Lunin-Maldacena Backgrounds

We consider pulsating strings in Lunin-Maldacena backgrounds, specifically in deformed Minkowski spacetime and deformed AdS_5xS^5. We find the relation between the energy and the oscillation number of the pulsating string when the deformation is small. Since the oscillation number is an adiabatic invariant it can be used to explore the regime of highly excited string states. We then quantize the string and look for such a sector. For the deformed Minkowski background we find a precise match with the classical results if the oscillation number is quantized as an even number. For the deformed AdS_5xS^5 we find a contribution which depends on the deformation parameter.
