Extensions and Applications of Stein-Weiss Operators to the Study of Traceless Symmetric Tensors

First-order differential operators arising from the representation-theoretic decomposition of the covariant derivative play a central role in Riemannian geometry. In this paper, we study Stein-Weiss $O(n)$-gradients acting on covariant symmetric trace-free tensors of arbitrary rank $p \ge 2$. By analyzing the decomposition of $T^*M \otimes S_0^p(M)$ into its $O(n)$-irreducible components, we explicitly describe the corresponding generalized gradients and compute Weitzenbock formulas for their adjoint compositions. These results extend Bouguignon four-dimensional formulas for $p = 2$ and generalize previous work of other authors to higher-rank symmetric tensors. The formulas obtained provide a unified framework for understanding second-order Stein-Weiss operators and yield tools applicable to deformation complexes, curvature estimates, and stability problems in geometric analysis. The article continues the authors' earlier investigations of Stein-Weiss operators on natural tensor bundles.

On the Bochner technique for singular distributions

In this paper we continue our recent study of a manifold endowed with a singular or regular distribution, determined as the image of the tangent bundle under a smooth endomorphism, and generalize Bochner's technique to the case of a distribution with a statistical type structure. Following the theory of statistical structures on Riemannian manifolds and construction of an almost Lie algebroid on a vector bundle, we define the modified statistical connection and exterior derivative on tensors. Then we introduce the Weitzenbock type curvature operator on tensors and derive the Bochner-Weitzenbock type formula. These allow us to obtain vanishing theorems about the null space of the Hodge type Laplacian on a distribution.

Harmonic Mappings into non-negatively curved Riemannian manifolds

Fifty years ago, Eells and Sampson have proved a famous theorem in which they argued that any harmonic mapping $f:(M,g) \rightarrow (\bar{M},\bar{g})$ is totally geodesic if $(M, g)$ is a compact manifold with the nonnegative Ricci tensor and the section curvature of $(\bar{M},\bar{g})$ is nonpositive. Moreover, other main results of the theory of harmonic mappings "in the large" are the results on harmonic maps into nonpositively curved Riemannian manifolds. In our paper we develop a theory of harmonic mappings into Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature. In particular, we will prove that any harmonic map between Riemannian manifolds $f:(M,g) \rightarrow (\bar{M},\bar{g})$ is totally geodesic if the section curvature of $(\bar{M},\bar{g})$ is nonnegative and $(M, g)$ is a compact manifold with the Ricci tensor $Ric \geq f^{*}\bar{Ric}$ for the pullback $f^{*}\bar{Ric}$ of the Ricci tensor $\bar{Ric}$ by $f$. The above scheme will be extended to a harmonic mapping of a complete manifold to a manifold with the nonnegative sectional curvature. Moreover, we will obtain interesting corollaries from our results.

On DeTurck uniqueness theorems for Ricci tensor

In Riemannian geometry the prescribed Ricci curvature problem is as follows: given a smooth manifold $M$ and a symmetric 2-tensor $r$, construct a metric on $M$ whose Ricci tensor equals $r$. In particular, DeTurck and Koiso proved the following celebrated result: the Ricci curvature uniquely determines the Levi-Civita connection on any compact Einstein manifold with non-negative section curvature. In the present paper we generalize the result of DeTurck and Koiso for a Riemannian manifold with non-negative section curvature. In addition, we extended our result to complete non-compact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature and with finite total scalar curvature.
