The EKR-module property of pseudo-Paley graphs of square order

We prove that a family of pseudo-Paley graphs of square order obtained from unions of cyclotomic classes satisfies the Erdős-Ko-Rado (EKR) module property, in a sense that the characteristic vector of each maximum clique is a linear combination of characteristic vectors of canonical cliques. This extends the EKR-module property of Paley graphs of square order and solves a problem proposed by Godsil and Meagher. Different from previous works, which heavily rely on tools from number theory, our approach is purely combinatorial in nature. The main strategy is to view these graphs as block graphs of orthogonal arrays, which is of independent interest.

Integral graphs obtained by dual Seidel switching

Dual Seidel switching is a graph operation introduced by W.~Haemers in 1984. This operation can change the graph, however it does not change its bipartite double, and because of this, the operation leaves the squares of the eigenvalues invariant. Thus, if a graph is integral then it is still integral after dual Seidel switching. In this paper two new infinite families of integral graphs are obtained by applying dual Seidel switching to the Star graphs and the Odd graphs. In particular, three new 44-regular integral graphs with their spectra are found.

PIPI-eigenfunctions of the Star graphs

We consider the symmetric group Symn, n⩾2\mathrm{Sym}_n,\,n\geqslant 2, generated by the set SS of transpositions (1 i), 2⩽i⩽n(1~i),\,2 \leqslant i \leqslant n, and the Cayley graph Sn=Cay(Symn,S)S_n=Cay(\mathrm{Sym}_n,S) called the Star graph. For any positive integers n⩾3n\geqslant 3 and mm with n>2mn > 2m, we present a family of PIPI-eigenfunctions of SnS_n with eigenvalue n−m−1n-m-1. We establish a connection of these functions with the standard basis of a Specht module. In the case of largest non-principal eigenvalue n−2n-2 we prove that any eigenfunction of SnS_n can be reconstructed by its values on the second neighbourhood of a vertex.

Deza graphs with parameters (n,k,k−1,a)(n,k,k-1,a) and β=1β=1

A Deza graph with parameters (n,k,b,a)(n,k,b,a) is a kk-regular graph with nn vertices in which any two vertices have aa or bb (a≤ba\leq b) common neighbours. A Deza graph is strictly Deza if it has diameter 22, and is not strongly regular. In an earlier paper, the two last authors et el. characterized the strictly Deza graphs with b=k−1b=k-1 and β>1β> 1, where ββ is the number of vertices with bb common neighbours with a given vertex. Here we deal with the case β=1β=1, thus we complete the characterization of strictly Deza graphs with b=k−1b=k-1. It follows that all Deza graphs with b=k−1b=k-1 and β=1β=1 can be made from special strongly regular graphs, and we present several examples of such strongly regular graphs. A divisible design graph is a special Deza graph, and a Deza graph with β=1β=1 is a divisible design graph. The present characterization reveals an error in a paper on divisible design graphs by the second author et al. We discuss the cause and the consequences of this mistake and give the required errata.

On eigenfunctions and maximal cliques of Paley graphs of square order

In this paper we find new maximal cliques of size q+12\frac{q+1}{2} or q+32\frac{q+3}{2}, accordingly as q≡1(4)q\equiv 1(4) or q≡3(4)q\equiv 3(4), in Paley graphs of order q2q^2, where qq is an odd prime power. After that we use new cliques to define a family of eigenfunctions corresponding to both non-principal eigenvalues and having the cardinality of support q+1q+1, which is the minimum by the weight-distribution bound.

The smallest strictly Neumaier graph and its generalisations

A regular clique in a regular graph is a clique such that every vertex outside of the clique is adjacent to the same positive number of vertices inside the clique. We continue the study of regular cliques in edge-regular graphs initiated by A. Neumaier in the 1980s and attracting current interest. We thus define a Neumaier graph to be an non-complete edge-regular graph containing a regular clique, and a strictly Neumaier graph to be a non-strongly regular Neumaier graph. We first prove some general results on Neumaier graphs and their feasible parameter tuples. We then apply these results to determine the smallest strictly Neumaier graph, which has 1616 vertices. Next we find the parameter tuples for all strictly Neumaier graphs having at most 2424 vertices. Finally, we give two sequences of graphs, each with ithi^{\text{th}} element a strictly Neumaier graph containing a 2i2^{i}-regular clique (where ii is a positive integer) and having parameters of an affine polar graph as an edge-regular graph. This answers questions recently posed by G. Greaves and J. Koolen.
