Electric field shielding in dielectric nanosolutions

To gain some insight into electrochemical activity of dielectric colloids of technical and biomedical interest we investigate a model of dielectric nanosolution whose micro-constitution is dominated by dipolarions -- positively and negatively charged spherically symmetric nano-structures composed of ionic charge surrounded by cloud of radially polarized dipoles of electrically neutral molecules of solvent. Combing the standard constitutive equations of an isotropic dielectric liquid with Maxwell equation of electrostatics and presuming the Boltzmann shape of the particle density of bound-charge we derive equation for the in-medium electrostatic field. Particular attention is given to numerical analysis of obtained analytic solutions of this equation describing the exterior fields of dipolarions with dipolar atmospheres of solvent molecules endowed with either permanent or field-induced dipole moments radially polarized by central symmetric field of counterions. The presented computations show that the electric field shielding of dipolarions in dielectric nanosolutions is quite different from that of counterionic nano-complexes of Debye-Hückel theory of electrolytes.

Micromagnetic theory of spin relaxation and ferromagnetic resonance in multilayered metallic films

Spin relaxation in the ultrathin metallic films of stacked microelectronic devices is investigated on the basis of a modified Landau-Lifshitz equation of micromagnetic dynamics in which the damping torque is treated as originating from the coupling between precessing magnetization-vector and the introduced stress-tensors of intrinsic and extrinsic magnetic anisotropy. Particular attention is given to the time of exponential relaxation and ferromagnetic resonance linewidth which are derived in analytic form from the equation of magnetization energy loss and Gabor uncertainty relation between the full-width-at-half-maximum in resonance-shaped line and lifetime of resonance excitation. The potential of developed theory is briefly discussed in the context of recent measurements.

Alfven node-free vibrations of white dwarf in the model of solid star with toroidal magnetic field

In the context of the white dwarf asteroseismology, we investigate vibrational properties of a non-convective solid star with an axisymmetric purely toroidal intrinsic magnetic field of two different shapes. Focus is laid on regime of node-free global Lorentz-force-driven vibrations about symmetry axis at which material displacements have one and the same form as those for nodeless spheroidal and torsional vibrations restored by Hooke's force of elastic shear stresses. Particular attention is given to the even-parity poloidal Alfven modes whose frequency spectra are computed in analytic form showing how the purely toroidal magnetic fields completely buried beneath the star surface can manifest itself in seismic vibrations of non-magnetic white dwarfs. The obtained spectral formulae are discussed in juxtaposition with those for Alfven modes in the solid star model with the poloidal, homogeneous internal and dipolar external, magnetic field whose inferences are relevant to Alfven vibrations in magnetic white dwarfs.

Optically induced electrostriction modes in a nanoparticle of a uniformly charged electret

The electromagnetic response of a nanoparticle of an ion-doped polymeric elastic insulator, commonly called as an electret, is considered in the continuum model of a uniformly charged elastic sphere. The spectral formulae for the frequency of optically induced spheroidal and torsional shear oscillations driven by bulk force of elastic and dielectric stresses are obtained in analytic form. Particular attention is given to relaxation dielectric mode of the electrostriction response and its stability in the lowest quadrupole mode. The practical usefulness of ultrafine particles of electrets as a biolabels capable of accumulating likely-charged inclusions uniformly dispersed over the spherical volume of an elastic matrix is briefly discussed.
