Monomial reduction of knot polynomials

For all natural numbers $N$ and prime numbers $p$, we find a knot $K$ whose skein polynomial $P_K(a,z)$ evaluated at $z=N$ has trivial reduction modulo $p$. An interesting consequence of our construction is that all polynomials $P_K(a,N)$ (mod~$p$) with bounded $a$-span are realised by knots with bounded braid index. As an application, we classify all polynomials of the form $P_K(a,1)$ (mod $2$) with $a$-span $\leq 10$.

Two strand twisting

We prove that fibred knots cannot be untied with $\bar{t}_{2k}$-moves, for all $k \geq 2$. More generally, we give an upper bound on the number of two strand twist operations that allow to untie a knot with non-trivial HOMFLY polynomial, in terms of the minimal crossing number, and the braid index. As a by-product, we prove that the braid index of a two-bridge knot cannot be lowered by applying $t_{2k}$-moves, for all but finitely many $k \in \mathbb{N}$.

Symmetric quotients of knot groups and a filtration of the Gordian graph

We define a metric filtration of the Gordian graph by an infinite family of 1-dense subgraphs. The n-th subgraph of this family is generated by all knots whose fundamental groups surject to a symmetric group with parameter at least n, where all meridians are mapped to transpositions. Incidentally, we verify the Meridional Rank Conjecture for a family of knots with unknotting number one yet arbitrarily high bridge number.

Bipartite graphs and combinatorial adjacency

We present a simple combinatorial model for quasipositive surfaces and positive braids, based on embedded bipartite graphs. As a first application, we extend the well-known duality on standard diagrams of torus links to twisted torus links. We then introduce a combinatorial notion of adjacency for bipartite graph links and discuss its potential relation with the adjacency problem for plane curve singularities.
