Detecting genuine multipartite entanglement in three-qubit systems with eternal non-Markovianity

We devise a novel protocol to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states by harnessing quantum non-Markovian operations. We utilize a particular type of non-Markovianity known as the eternal non-Markovianity to construct a non-complete positive map to filter out the bi-separable states and detect genuine multipartite entanglement. We further propose a witness operator to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states experimentally based on this theory. Our study sheds light on a hitherto unexplored connection between entanglement theory and quantum non-Markovianity.

Detecting non-Markovianity via uncertainty relations

We present a formalism for detection of non-Markovianity through uncertainty relations. We show that when there is an information back-flow to the system from its environment through CP-divisibility breaking, the Choi-states corresponding to the reduced system evolution contain at least one negative eigenvalue. The consequent break down of uncertainty relations for such states can be used to witness non-Markovian dynamics. We present some relevant examples of the phenomenon for qubit channels. We further prove that square of the variance of a suitable hermitian operator can act as a non-linear witness of non-Markovianity. We finally show that non-Markovianity is necessary in order to decrease the uncertainty of the states undergoing unital dynamics for qubits. This provides another method of certifying non-Markovianity.

Wave-particle duality employing quantum coherence in superposition with non-orthogonal pointers

We propose the notion of quantum coherence for superpositions over states which are not necessarily mutually orthogonal. This anticipatedly leads to a resource theory of non-orthogonal coherence. We characterize free states and free operations in this theory, and connect the latter with free operations in the resource theory of quantum coherence for orthogonal bases. We show that the concept of non-orthogonal coherence naturally furnishes us with a wave-particle duality in quantum double-slit experiments where the channels beyond the slits are leaky between them. Furthermore, we demonstrate existence of a unique maximally coherent qubit state corresponding to any given purity. In addition, and in contradistinction with the case of orthogonal bases, there appears a non-trivial minimally coherent qubit state for a given purity. We also study the behavior of quantum coherence for some typical configurations of non-orthogonal bases which have no analogs for orthogonal bases. We further investigate the problem of determining the energy cost of creating non-orthogonal coherence, and find that it scales linearly with the non-orthogonal coherence created.

Convex resource theory of non-Markovianity

We establish a convex resource theory of non-Markovianity under the constraint of small time intervals within the temporal evolution. We construct the free operations, free states and a generalized bona-fide measure of non-Markovianity. The framework satisfies the basic properties of a consistent resource theory. The proposed resource quantifier is lower bounded by the optimization free Rivas-Huelga-Plenio (RHP) measure of nonMarkovianity. We further define the robustness of non-Markovianity and show that it can directly be expressed as a function of the RHP measure of non-Markovianity. This enables a physical interpretation of the RHP measure.

Thermodynamic utility of Non-Markovianity from the perspective of resource interconversion

We establish a connection between non-Markovianity and negative entropy production rate for various classes of quantum operations. We analyse several aspects of unital and thermal operations in connection with resource theories of purity and thermodynamics. We fully characterize Lindblad operators corresponding to unital operations. We also characterize the Lindblad dynamics for a large class of thermal operations. We next generalize the definition of the entropy production rate for the non-equilibrium case to connect it with the rate of change of free energy of the system, and establish complementary relations between non-Markovianity and maximum loss of free energy. We naturally conclude that non-Markovianity in terms of divisibility breaking is a necessary resource for the backflow of other resources like purity or free energy under the corresponding allowed operations.

Energy Cost of Creating Quantum Coherence

We consider the physical situations where the resource theories of coherence and thermodynamics play competing roles. In particular, we study the creation of quantum coherence using unitary operations with limited thermodynamic resources. We first find the maximal coherence that can be created under unitary operations starting from a thermal state and find explicitly the unitary transformation that creates the maximal coherence. Since coherence is created by unitary operations starting from a thermal state, it requires some amount of energy. This motivates us to explore the trade-off between the amount of coherence that can be created and the energy cost of the unitary process. We find the maximal achievable coherence under the constraint on the available energy. Additionally, we compare the maximal coherence and the maximal total correlation that can be created under unitary transformations with the same available energy at our disposal. We find that when maximal coherence is created with limited energy, the total correlation created in the process is upper bounded by the maximal coherence and vice versa. For two qubit systems we show that there does not exist any unitary transformation that creates maximal coherence and maximal total correlation simultaneously with a limited energy cost.

Delineating incoherent non-Markovian dynamics using quantum coherence

We introduce a method of characterization of non-Markovianity using coherence of a system interacting with the environment. We show that under the allowed incoherent operations, monotonicity of a valid coherence measure is affected due to non-Markovian features of the system-environment evolution. We also define a measure to quantify non-Markovianity of the underlying dynamics based on the non-monotonic behavior of the coherence measure. We investigate our proposed non-Markovianity marker in the behavior of dephasing and dissipative dynamics for one and two qubit cases. We also show that our proposed measure captures the back-flow of information from the environment to the system and compatible with well known distinguishability criteria of non-Markovianity.

Quantum Path predictability for an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer in presence of environment induced Decoherence and Quantum Erasing process

In this paper, we have estimated the temperature dependent path predictability for an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The increment of path predictability can directly be associated with stronger decoherence process. We have also theoretically predicted that placing two detectors in both the paths, which are at the same equilibrium temperature with the system, erases all the memory of path information and hence acts like a quantum eraser.

Comparison of decoherence and Zeno dynamics from the context of weak measurement for a two level atom tunneling through squeezed vacuum

Decay parameter of coherence and population inversion are calculated from the master equation of a two level atom tunneling through a squeezed vacuum. Using those parameters, the timescales for decoherence and zeno effect are calculated in the weak measurement scheme. By comparing those timescales, a certain condition has been found for sustainable coherent dynamics.

Preservation of coherence for a Two-Level atom tunneling through a squeezed vacuum with finite bandwidth

Tunneling of a two-state particle through a squeezed vacuum is considered. It has been shown that repetitive measurement or interaction with the external field can preserve the coherence. Moreover, the coherence time in terms of the squeezing parameters has been calculated. A specific condition is derived, under which the coherence is sustainable.

Temperature dependent weak value of dwell time for a two state particle tunneling through a thermal magnetic barrier

Dwell time for a two state particle tunneling through a noisy thermal magnetic barrier has been calculated by studying the time evolution of the system. The effect of temperature has been included by averaging over the environmental magnetic modes. The time scale has been calculated in the framework of weak measurement. The dwell time initially increases with the rise of temperature and finally saturates. The increment of dwell time can be explained by the phenomena of quantum memory loss caused by efficient energy exchange with the environmental modes. The saturation region at higher temperature corresponds to the process of thermal hopping of the barrier.

Temperature dependent Zeno time for a two level atom tunneling through a thermal magnetic barrier in the framework of weak measurement

The Zeno time has been calculated for a metastable two level atom tunneling through a interacting thermal magnetic field. The process of weak measurement has been utilized for the the estimation of the timescale. The temperature dependence of the Zeno time has been shown. From the calculation it is evident that the Zeno time decreases with the increase of temperature. Moreover, the result restricts the Zeno time to a maximum limiting value, irrespective of how frequent is the measurement process.

Wigner-Yanase skew information and entanglement generation in quantum measurement

The first step of quantum measurement procedure is known as \emph{premeasurement}, during when correlation between measuring system and measurement apparatus is established. One compelling non-classical correlation is entanglement, a useful resource for various quantum information theoretic protocols. Quantifying the amount of entanglement in the premeasurement state, therefore, seeks importance from practical ground and this is the central issue of the present paper. Interestingly, for a two-label quantum system we obtain that the amount of entanglement, measured in term of \emph{negativity}, generated in premeasurement process is actually quantified by two factors: \emph{skew information} between system's initial state and the measurement direction, which quantifies the amount of information on the values of observables not commuting with the conserved quantity of the system, and \emph{mixedness parameter} of the system's initial state.

Laser trapping of ions and asymptotic minimization of Decoherence

Decoherence time has been calculated for an optical ion trap of Be atoms in a bistable potential model. Comparison has been made between decoherence time and Zeno time for double well potential as a special case. Zeno time is considered as a lower limit of decoherence time for sustainable quantum coherence. Equality of the respective timescales provides a certain transitional temperature, below which decoherence can be asymptotically minimized.

Quatum Thermodynamics and the coherence in Ion channels

We showed that quantum mechanical superposition can sustain in the process of ion transfer in protein membrane for a substantial period, in spite of the presence of the interactions with environmental modes of molecular vibration. The spectral temperature, as defined in quantum thermodynamical framework plays a significant role in maintaining the coherence. The ratio of decoherence time and dwell time has been calculated, which can be directly related to the degree of coherence. The results shead new light to build quantum information system of entangled ionic states in the voltage gated biological channels.

Weak measurement and Zeno time in a dissipative environment

A generalized expression for weak value of dwell time in dissipative systems has been constructed using the approach of Caldirola and Montaldi. An approximate measure of Zeno time has been found taking an asymmetric double well potential. Atomic tunneling between two surfaces is taken as a practical example. The formalism can be used for any solvable potential with exact or approximate energy eigenvalues.
