High-energy resummation effects in the production of Mueller-Navelet dijet at the LHC

We study the production of two forward jets with a large interval of rapidity at hadron colliders, which was proposed by Mueller and Navelet as a possible test of the high energy dynamics of QCD, within a complete next-to-leading logarithm framework. We show that using the Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie procedure to fix the renormalization scale leads to a very good description of the recent CMS data at the LHC for the azimuthal correlations of the jets. We show that the inclusion of next-to-leading order corrections to the jet vertex significantly reduces the importance of energy-momentum non-conservation which is inherent to the BFKL approach, for an asymmetric jet configuration. Finally, we argue that the double parton scattering contribution is negligible in the kinematics of actual CMS measurements.

On the one loop $γ^{(*)}\to q\bar{q}$ impact factor and the exclusive diffractive cross sections for the production of two or three jets

We present the calculation of the impact factor for the $γ^{(*)}\to q\bar{q}$ transition with one loop accuracy in arbitrary kinematics. The calculation was done within Balitsky's high energy operator expansion. Together with our previous result for the $γ^{(*)}\to q\bar{q} g$ Born impact factor it allows one to derive cross-sections for 2- (one loop) and 3-jet (Born) difractive electroproduction. We write such cross sections for the 2 and 3 jet exclusive diffractive electroproduction off a proton in terms of hadronic matrix elements of Wilson lines. For the 2-jet cross section we demonstrate the cancellation of IR, collinear and rapidity singularities. Our result can be directly exploited to describe the recently analyzed data on exclusive dijet production at HERA and used for the study of jet photoproduction in ultraperipheral proton or nuclear scattering.

Photoproduction of a large invariant mass $γρ$ pair at small momentum transfer

The collinear factorization framework allows to describe the exclusive photoproduction of a $γ\,ρ$ pair in the generalized Bjorken regime in terms of a perturbatively calculable coefficient function and universal generalized parton distributions. The kinematics are defined by a large invariant mass of the $γρ$ pair and a small transverse momentum of the final nucleon. We calculate the scattering amplitude at leading order in $α_s$ and the differential cross sections for the process where the $ρ-$meson is either longitudinally or transversely polarized, in the kinematics of the near future Jlab experiments. Our estimate of the cross section demonstrates that this process is measurable at JLab 12-GeV.

Probing BFKL dynamics in Mueller-Navelet jet production at the LHC

We review the results of our studies on the production of two jets with a large interval of rapidity at hadron colliders, which was proposed by Mueller and Navelet as a possible test of the high energy dynamics of QCD, within the next-to-leading logarithm framework. The application of the Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie procedure to fix the renormalization scale leads to a very good description of the available CMS data at the LHC for the azimuthal correlations of the jets. We show that the inclusion of next-to-leading order corrections to the jet vertex significantly reduces the importance of energy-momentum non-conservation which is inherent to the BFKL approach, for an asymmetric jet configuration.

Revealing transversity GPDs through the photoproduction of a photon and a $ρ$ meson

Photoproduction of a pair of particles with large invariant mass is a natural extension of collinear QCD factorization theorems which have been much studied for deeply virtual Compton scattering and deeply virtual meson production. We discuss the production of a photon and a meson, where the wide angle Compton scattering on a meson subprocess factorizes from generalized parton distribution. We calculate at dominant twist and leading order in $α_s$, the production cross-section of a transversely polarized $ρ$ meson which is sensitive to chiral-odd GPDs, and show that it may be measurable in near future JLab experiments.

Diffractive production of jets at high-energy in the QCD shock-wave approach

In view of future phenomenological applications, we study the impact factor for the photon to quark, antiquark and gluon transition within Balitsky's shock-wave formalism. The aim of the present program is to extend existing results beyond approximations discussed in the literature. We present our results of the real contribution, and report on recent progress in calculating the virtual contributions for the photon to quark, antiquark transition.

Evaluating the double parton scattering contribution to Mueller-Navelet jets production at the LHC

We propose a model to study the importance of double parton scattering (DPS) in Mueller-Navelet jets production at the LHC which is consistent with the BFKL framework used to compute the single parton scattering contribution to this process. We study this model in kinematics corresponding to existing and possible future measurements at the LHC and estimate the importance of this DPS contribution on relevant observables for this process, namely the cross section and the azimuthal correlation of the jets.

We also rederive the impact factor for photon to quark and antiquark transition. These results provide the necessary building blocks for further phenomenological studies of inclusive diffractive deep inelastic scattering as well as for two and three jets diffractive production which go beyond approximations discussed in the literature.

Mueller-Navelet jets at the LHC

We report on our NLL BFKL studies of Mueller-Navelet jets. We first perform a complete NLL BFKL analysis supplemented by a BLM renormalization scale fixing procedure, which is successfully compared with recent CMS data. Second, we argue for the need of a measurement of an asymmetric jet configuration in order to perform a valuable comparison with fixed order approaches. Third, we predict that the energy-momentum violation is rather tiny in the NLL BFKL approach, for an asymmetric jet configuration. Finally, we argue that the double parton scattering contribution is negligible in the kinematics of actual CMS measurements.

On $γN \to γρN'$ at large $γρ$ invariant mass

Photoproduction of a pair of particles with large invariant mass is a natural extension of collinear QCD factorization theorems which have been much studied for deeply virtual Compton scattering and deeply virtual meson production. We consider the case where the wide angle Compton scattering subprocess $γ(q\bar q) \to γρ$ factorizes from generalized parton distribution. At dominant twist, separating the transverse (respectively longitudinal) polarization of the $ρ$ meson allows one to get access to chiral-odd (respectively chiral-even) GPDs. This opens a new way to the extraction of these elusive transversity GPDs.

Production of a forward J/psi and a backward jet at the LHC

We study the production of a forward $J/ψ$ meson and a backward jet with a large rapidity separation at the LHC using the BFKL formalism. We compare the predictions given by the Non Relativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach to charmonium prediction and by the Color Evaporation Model. In NRQCD, we find that the $^3 S_1^{\, 8}$ part of the onium wavefunction is completely dominating the process. NRQCD and the color evaporation model give similar results, although a discrepancy seems to appear as the value of the transverse momenta of the charmonium and of the jet decrease.

Transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions: status and prospects

We provide a concise overview on transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions, their application to topical issues in high-energy physics phenomenology, and their theoretical connections with QCD resummation, evolution and factorization theorems. We illustrate the use of TMDs via examples of multi-scale problems in hadronic collisions. These include transverse momentum q_T spectra of Higgs and vector bosons for low q_T, and azimuthal correlations in the production of multiple jets associated with heavy bosons at large jet masses. We discuss computational tools for TMDs, and present an application of a new tool, TMDlib, to parton density fits and parameterizations.

Confronting BFKL dynamics with experimental studies of Mueller-Navelet jets at the LHC

The study of the production of Mueller-Navelet jets at hadron colliders, characterized as two forward jets separated by a large interval of rapidity, is known to be one of the best possible tests of the high energy dynamics of QCD. We analyze this process within a complete next-to-leading logarithm framework à la BFKL. In addition, we use the Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie procedure, here extended to the perturbative Regge dynamics, to fix the renormalization scale to its optimal value. The obtained results provide a very good description of the recent CMS data at the LHC for the azimuthal correlations of the jets.

Crossed channel analysis of quark and gluon generalized parton distributions with helicity flip

Quark and gluon helicity flip generalized parton distributions (GPDs) address the transversity quark and gluon structure of the nucleon. In order to construct a theoretically consistent parametrization of these hadronic matrix elements, we work out the set of combinations of those GPDs suitable for the ${\rm SO}(3)$ partial wave (PW) expansion in the cross-channel. This universal result will help to build up a flexible parametrization of these important hadronic non-perturbative quantities, using for instance the approaches based on the conformal PW expansion of GPDs such as the Mellin-Barnes integral or the dual parametrization techniques.

Mueller-Navelet jets at LHC: an observable to reveal high energy resummation effects?

More than 25 years ago, Mueller and Navelet proposed to study the production of two jets separated by a large interval of rapidity at hadron colliders to look for high-energy resummation effects. We here present the results of a next-to-leading logarithmic BFKL study of the azimuthal decorrelation of these jets. This includes next-to-leading corrections both to the Green's function and to the jet vertices. We compare our results with recent LHC data and results obtained in a fixed order treatment.

On higher twist chiral-odd pion generalized parton distributions

We define in the framework of light-cone collinear factorization method, the chiral-odd generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of a pseudoscalar hadron (such as the $π^0$) up to twist 6. For that, we introduce the relevant matrix elements for 2-parton non-local operators, as well as matrix elements for 3-parton non-local correlators. Their detailed parametrization is fixed based on parity, charge conjugation and time reversal invariance. This leads to the introduction of 28 real GPDs, which are subject to constraints coming from the QCD equations of motion.

Phenomenology of the polarized cross-sections of the rho meson leptoproduction at high energy

We present a model for the polarized cross-sections of the hard diffractive leptoproduction of rho meson in the high energy limit. Our model is based on the light-cone collinear factorization of the virtual photon to rho meson impact factor when using the impact factor representation of the helicity amplitudes of the rho meson leptoproduction. This gauge invariant treatment when expressed in impact parameter space, leads to the factorization on one hand of the color dipole scattering amplitude and on the other hand of the distribution amplitudes of the rho meson up to twist 2 and 3. We show that the results of this approach are in good agreement with HERA data for virtualities above ~5 GeV^2.

Toward modelization of quark and gluon transversity generalized parton distributions

Quark and gluon helicity flip generalized parton distributions (GPDs) encode the information on the nucleon structure in the transversity sector. In order to build a theoretically consistent phenomenological parametrization for these hadronic matrix element within the framework of the dual parametrization of GPDs (or with the equivalent approach of the SO(3) partial waves (PW) expansion with the Mellin-Barnes integral techniques) we establish the set of combinations of parton helicity flip GPDs suitable for the expansion in the cross channel SO(3) PWs.

Violation of energy-momentum conservation in Mueller-Navelet jets production

We study effects related to violation of energy-momentum conservation inherent to the BFKL approach, in the particular case of Mueller-Navelet jets production. We argue, based on the comparison of the lowest order non trivial corrections $\mathcal{O}(α_s^3)$ to the cross section with predictions of an exact calculation, that the inclusion of next-to-leading order BFKL corrections to the jet production vertex significantly reduces the importance of these effects.

A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN

This document provides a brief overview of the recently published report on the design of the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), which comprises its physics programme, accelerator physics, technology and main detector concepts. The LHeC exploits and develops challenging, though principally existing, accelerator and detector technologies. This summary is complemented by brief illustrations of some of the highlights of the physics programme, which relies on a vastly extended kinematic range, luminosity and unprecedented precision in deep inelastic scattering. Illustrations are provided regarding high precision QCD, new physics (Higgs, SUSY) and electron-ion physics. The LHeC is designed to run synchronously with the LHC in the twenties and to achieve an integrated luminosity of O(100) fb$^{-1}$. It will become the cleanest high resolution microscope of mankind and will substantially extend as well as complement the investigation of the physics of the TeV energy scale, which has been enabled by the LHC.

A model for high energy rho meson leptoproduction based on collinear factorization and dipole models

We present a phenomenological model for the helicity amplitudes T11 and T00 of the rho meson exclusive diffractive leptoproduction in the forward limit. This model leads to a very good description of the polarized cross-sections sigmaT and sigmaL when compared to HERA data. This model is based on the impact factor representation of the helicity amplitudes. The gamma* -> rho impact factor is computed within the light-cone collinear factorization scheme, the impact parameter space representation allowing to factorize out the dipole-target amplitude. Finally our description combines a model for the dipole-target amplitude that includes the saturation effects with the results for the impact factor where the twist 2 and twist 3 distribution amplitudes of the rho meson are involved.

Chiral-odd pion generalized parton distributions beyond leading twist

We define in a systematic way, based on the light-cone collinear factorization method, the chiral-odd generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of a pseudoscalar hadron (such as the pi0) up to twist 5. For that, we introduce the relevant matrix elements for 2-parton non-local operators, as well as matrix elements for 3-parton non-local correlators. Their detailed parametrization is fixed based on parity, charge conjugation and time reversal invariance. This leads to the introduction of 20 real GPDs, whose symmetry properties are explicitely given. The reduction of these GPDs to a minimal set is performed by the use of constraints provided by QCD equations of motion and rotation on the light-cone. We show that these 20 GPDs can be expressed through 8 GPDs which satisfy 4 integral sum rules. A surprising outcome of this analysis is the fact that, when assuming the vanishing of 3-parton correlators, as in the so-called Wandzura-Wilczek approximation, the whole set of GPDs vanishes.

Confronting Mueller-Navelet jets in NLL BFKL with LHC experiments at 7 TeV

More than 25 years ago, Mueller Navelet jets were proposed as a decisive test of BFKL dynamics at hadron colliders. We here study this process at NLL BFKL accuracy, taking into account NLL corrections to the Green's function and to the jet vertices. We present detailed predictions for various observables that can be measured at LHC in ongoing experiments like ATLAS or CMS at sqrt{s}=7 TeV: the cross-section, the azimuthal correlations and the angular distribution of these jets. For this purpose, we apply realistic kinematical cuts and binning, and study the dependence of our results with respect to several parameters. We then compare our results with those that can be obtained in a fixed order NLO treatment, and propose specific observables which could actually be used as a probe of BFKL dynamics.

Double logarithms resummation in exclusive processes : the surprising behavior of DVCS

Double logarithms resummation has been much studied in inclusive as well as exclusive processes. The Sudakov mechanism has often be the crucial tool to exponentiate potentially large contributions to amplitudes or cross-sections near phase-space boundaries. We report on a recent work where a very different pattern emerges : the DVCS quark coefficient function C(x,ξ) develops, near the particular point x=ξ, a non-alternate series in α_s^n log^{2n}(x-ξ) which may be resummed in a cosh[K sqrt α_s log(x-ξ)] factor. This result is at odds with the known result for the corresponding coefficient function for the pion transition form factor near the end point C(z) although they are much related through a z -> x/ξcorrespondence.

High energy rho meson leptoproduction

We investigate the longitudinal and transverse polarized cross-sections of the leptoproduction of the rho meson in the high energy limit. Our model is based on the computation of the impact factor gamma*(lambda_gamma) -> rho(lambda_rho) using the twist expansion in the forward limit and expressed in the impact parameter space. This treatment involves in the final stage the twist 2 and twist 3 distribution amplitudes (DAs) of the rho meson and the dipole scattering amplitude. Taking models that exist for the DAs and for the dipole cross-section, we get a phenomenological model for the helicity amplitudes, we compare our predictions with HERA data and get a fairly good description for large enough virtualities of the photon.

On the Relation of the LHeC and the LHC

The present note relies on the recently published conceptual design report of the LHeC and extends the first contribution to the European strategy debate in emphasising the role of the LHeC to complement and complete the high luminosity LHC programme. The brief discussion therefore focuses on the importance of high precision PDF and $α_s$ determinations for the physics beyond the Standard Model (GUTs, SUSY, Higgs). Emphasis is also given to the importance of high parton density phenomena in nuclei and their relevance to the heavy ion physics programme at the LHC.

Saturation effects in exclusive rhoT, rhoL meson electroproduction

We use recent results for the gamma*L -> rhoL and gamma*T -> rhoT impact factors, computed in the impact parameter representation within the collinear factorization scheme, to get predictions for the polarized cross-sections sigmaT and sigmaL of the diffractive leptoproduction of the rho meson at high energy. In this approach the helicity amplitude is a convolution of the scattering amplitude of a color dipole with a target, together with the virtual gamma wave function and with the first moments of the rho meson wave function (in the transverse momentum space), given by the distribution amplitudes up to twist 3 for the gamma*T -> rhoT impact factor and up to twist 2 for the gamma*L -> rhoL impact factor. Combining these results with recent dipole models fitted to DIS data, which include saturation effects, we show that the predictions are in good agreement with HERA data for photon virtuality (Q**2) larger than typically 5 GeV**2, without free parameters and with a weak dependence on the choice of the factorization scale, i.e. the shape of the DAs, for both longitudinally and transversely polarized rho meson. For lower values of Q**2, the inclusion of saturation effects is not enough to provide a good description of HERA data. We believe that it is a signal of a need for higher twist contributions in the rho meson DAs. We also analyze the radial distributions of dipoles between the initial gamma* and the final rho meson states.

SuperB Technical Design Report

In this Technical Design Report (TDR) we describe the SuperB detector that was to be installed on the SuperB e+e- high luminosity collider. The SuperB asymmetric collider, which was to be constructed on the Tor Vergata campus near the INFN Frascati National Laboratory, was designed to operate both at the Upsilon(4S) center-of-mass energy with a luminosity of 10^{36} cm^{-2}s^{-1} and at the tau/charm production threshold with a luminosity of 10^{35} cm^{-2}s^{-1}. This high luminosity, producing a data sample about a factor 100 larger than present B Factories, would allow investigation of new physics effects in rare decays, CP Violation and Lepton Flavour Violation. This document details the detector design presented in the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) in 2007. The R&D and engineering studies performed to arrive at the full detector design are described, and an updated cost estimate is presented. A combination of a more realistic cost estimates and the unavailability of funds due of the global economic climate led to a formal cancelation of the project on Nov 27, 2012.

A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN: Report on the Physics and Design Concepts for Machine and Detector

The physics programme and the design are described of a new collider for particle and nuclear physics, the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), in which a newly built electron beam of 60 GeV, up to possibly 140 GeV, energy collides with the intense hadron beams of the LHC. Compared to HERA, the kinematic range covered is extended by a factor of twenty in the negative four-momentum squared, $Q^2$, and in the inverse Bjorken $x$, while with the design luminosity of $10^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ the LHeC is projected to exceed the integrated HERA luminosity by two orders of magnitude. The physics programme is devoted to an exploration of the energy frontier, complementing the LHC and its discovery potential for physics beyond the Standard Model with high precision deep inelastic scattering measurements. These are designed to investigate a variety of fundamental questions in strong and electroweak interactions. The physics programme also includes electron-deuteron and electron-ion scattering in a $(Q^2, 1/x)$ range extended by four orders of magnitude as compared to previous lepton-nucleus DIS experiments for novel investigations of neutron's and nuclear structure, the initial conditions of Quark-Gluon Plasma formation and further quantum chromodynamic phenomena. The LHeC may be realised either as a ring-ring or as a linac-ring collider. Optics and beam dynamics studies are presented for both versions, along with technical design considerations on the interaction region, magnets and further components, together with a design study for a high acceptance detector. Civil engineering and installation studies are presented for the accelerator and the detector. The LHeC can be built within a decade and thus be operated while the LHC runs in its high-luminosity phase. It thus represents a major opportunity for progress in particle physics exploiting the investment made in the LHC.

High Energy exclusive Leptoproduction of the rho-meson: Theory and Phenomenology

We describe the hard leptoproduction of transversally polarized rho-meson, up to twist 3 accuracy, including 2- and 3- particles Fock-states, in the HERA kinematics of high center-of-mass energy. We first build a model based on a simple approach to the unintegrated gluon density (the parton impact factor) that we compare with H1 and ZEUS data for the ratios of helicity amplitudes T(gamma*T -> rhoT)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL) and T(gamma*T -> rhoL)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL) and get a good description of the data. We also show how saturation effects can be included in this model by extending the dipole representation of the scattering amplitude in coordinate space up to twist 3.

Mueller-Navelet jets at LHC: the first complete NLL BFKL study

Mueller Navelet jets were proposed 25 years ago as a decisive test of BFKL dynamics at hadron colliders. We here present the first next-to-leading BFKL study of the cross section and azimuthal decorrelation of these jets. This includes both next-to-leading corrections to the Green's function and next-to-leading corrections to the Mueller Navelet vertices. The obtained results for standard observables proposed for studies of Mueller Navelet jets show that both sources of corrections are of equal and big importance for final magnitude and behavior of observables, in particular for the LHC kinematics investigated here in detail. Our analysis reveals that the observables obtained within the complete next-to-leading order BFKL framework of the present work are quite similar to the same observables obtained within next-to-leading logarithm DGLAP type treatment. There is still a noticeable difference in both treatments for the ratio of the azimuthal angular moments < cos (2 phi) > / < cos phi >.

Resumming soft and collinear contributions in deeply virtual Compton scattering

We calculate the quark coefficient function Tq(x,xi) that enters the factorized amplitude for deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) at all order in a soft and collinear gluon approximation, focusing on the leading double logarithmic behavior in x +/- xi, where x +/- xi is the light cone momentum fraction of the incoming/outgoing quarks. We show that the dominant part of the known one loop result can be understood in an axial gauge as the result of a semi-eikonal approximation to the box diagram. We then derive an all order result for the leading contribution of the ladder diagrams and deduce a resummation formula valid in the vicinity of the boundaries of the regions defining the energy flows of the incoming/outcoming quarks, i.e. x = +/- xi. The resummed series results in a simple closed expression.

The dipole representation of vector meson electroproduction beyond leading twist

We link the recent computation beyond leading twist of the impact factor of the transition gamma*T -> rhoT performed in the light-cone collinear approach, to the dipole picture by expressing the hard part of the process through its Fourier transform in coordinate space. We show that in the Wandzura-Wilczek approximation the impact factor up to twist 3 factorises in the wave function of the photon combined with the distribution amplitudes of the rho-meson and the colour dipole scattering amplitude with the t-channel gluons. We show also that beyond the Wandzura-Wilczek approximation, the hard contribution of the amplitude still exhibits the signature of the interaction of a single colour dipole with the t-channel gluons. This result allows a phenomenological approach of the helicity amplitudes of the leptoproduction of vector meson, by combining our results to a dipole/target scattering amplitude model.

Theory and phenomenology of helicity amplitudes for high energy exclusive leptoproduction of the rho-meson

We review here two approaches to describe hard leptoproduction of transversally polarized rho-meson, based on recent calculation of the gamma*T -> rhoT impact factor up to twist 3 accuracy in the collinear factorization frame, including 2- and 3- particles Fock-states. The first approach uses a model of the unintegrated gluon density (the proton impact factor) which allows a comparison of our predictions with H1 and ZEUS data for the ratios of helicity amplitudes T(gamma*T -> rhoT)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL) and T(gamma*T -> rhoL)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL). In the second approach, we transform the gamma*T -> rhoT impact factor into the impact parameter space. We show that the transformed amplitude factorizes according to conventional dipole picture. Gluons and the quark sea at high energies: distributions, polarization, tomography

This report is based on a ten-week program on "Gluons and the quark sea at high-energies", which took place at the Institute for Nuclear Theory in Seattle in Fall 2010. The principal aim of the program was to develop and sharpen the science case for an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a facility that will be able to collide electrons and positrons with polarized protons and with light to heavy nuclei at high energies, offering unprecedented possibilities for in-depth studies of quantum chromodynamics. This report is organized around four major themes: i) the spin and flavor structure of the proton, ii) three-dimensional structure of nucleons and nuclei in momentum and configuration space, iii) QCD matter in nuclei, and iv) Electroweak physics and the search for physics beyond the Standard Model. Beginning with an executive summary, the report contains tables of key measurements, chapter overviews for each of the major scientific themes, and detailed individual contributions on various aspects of the scientific opportunities presented by an EIC.

On high energy exclusive leptoproduction of the rho meson up to twist 3

The Regge inspired k_T-factorization scheme expresses the scattering amplitude for exclusive leptoproduction of a light vector meson rho in terms of two impact factors, one for the gamma* - rho transition and the other one for the nucleon to nucleon transition, with, at leading order, a two "reggeized" gluon exchange in the t-channel. We report here on a recent phenomenological study where we apply a previously developped scheme which consistently takes into account the twist 3 distribution amplitudes for transversely polarized rho meson. The computation of the gamma* to rho impact factor are performed within collinear factorization of QCD, up to the twist 3 level, based on the Collinear Factorization scheme applied to the amplitudes gamma*g to g rho . Our results are in good agreement with high energy experimental data for the ratios of helicity amplitudes.

The chiral-odd transversity generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of the nucleon can be accessed experimentally through the exclusive photoproduction process gamma + N -> pi + rho + N', in the kinematics where the meson pair has a large invariant mass and the final nucleon has a small transverse momentum, provided the vector meson is produced in a transversally polarized state. We calculate perturbatively the scattering amplitude at leading order in alpha_s. We build a simple model for the dominant transversity GPD H_T(x,xi,t) based on the concept of double distribution. We estimate the unpolarized differential cross section for this process in the kinematics of the Jlab and COMPASS experiments. Counting rates show that the experiment looks feasible with the real photon beam characteristics expected at JLab@12 GeV, and with the quasi real photon beam in the COMPASS experiment.

Exclusive electroproduction of rhoT meson with twist three accuracy

Exclusive electroproduction of vector mesons is a crucial way to probe QCD factorization properties. Such a factorization is up to now only proven, at the twist 2 level, for a longitudinaly polarized meson. It is crucial to extend our understanding to the case of transversely polarized vector mesons. As a first step in this direction, we evaluate the impact factor of the transition gamma* -> rhoT, which is the relevant part of the amplitude within the kt-factorization approach valid at large energies, taking into account the twist 3 contributions, coming both from quark antiquark and from quark antiquark gluon correlators. We show that a gauge invariant expression is obtained with the help of QCD equations of motion.

First complete NLL BFKL calculation of Mueller Navelet jets at LHC

For the first time, a next-to-leading BFKL study of the cross section and azimuthal decorrellation of Mueller Navelet jets is performed, i.e. including next-to-leading corrections to the Green's function as well as next-to-leading corrections to the Mueller Navelet vertices. The obtained results for standard observables proposed for studies of Mueller Navelet jets show that both sources of corrections are of equal and big importance for final magnitude and final behavior of observables, in particular for the LHC kinematics investigated here in detail. The astonishing conclusion of our analysis is that the observables obtained within the complete next-lo-leading order BFKL framework of the present paper are quite similar to the same observables obtained within next-to-leading logarithm DGLAP type treatment. The only noticeable difference is the ratio the azimuthal angular moments < cos 2 phi >/ < cos phi > which still differs in both treatments.

Hard exclusive electroproduction of rhoT at twist 3

Exclusive processes in hard electroproduction are one of the best place for understanding QCD in view of its factorization properties. In particular, in the limit of asymptotic gamma* p center of mass energy, they give an access to the perturbative Regge properties of QCD. The HERA experiment recently provided precise data for rho electroproduction, including all spin density matrix elements. From QCD, it is expected that such a process should factorize between a hard (calculable) coefficient function, and hadronic (p and rho) matrix elements. Such a factorization is up to now only proven for a longitudinaly polarized rho. Within the kt-factorization approach (valid at large gamma* p invariant mass), we evaluate the impact factor of the transition gamma* -> rhoT taking into account the twist 3 contributions. We show that a gauge invariant expression is obtained with the help of QCD equations of motion. More generally, relying on these equations and on the invariance under rotation on the light-cone of the factorized amplitude, the non-perturbative Distribution Amplitudes can be reduced to a minimal set. This opens the way to a consistent treatment of factorization for exclusive processes with a transversally polarized vector meson, and clarifies the equivalence of two proposed parametrizations of the rhoT distribution amplitudes, illustrated here by the gamma* -> rhoT impact factor.

Mueller Navelet jets at LHC - complete NLL BFKL calculation

We calculate cross section and azimuthal decorrellation of Mueller Navelet jets at the LHC in the complete next-lo-leading order BFKL framework, i.e. including next-to-leading corrections to the Green's function as well as next-to-leading corrections to the Mueller Navelet vertices. The astonishing conclusion of our analysis is that the observables obtained within the complete next-lo-leading order BFKL framework of the present paper are quite similar to the same observables obtained within next-to-leading logarithm DGLAP type treatment. This fact sheds doubts on general belief that the studies of Mueller Navelet jets at the LHC will lead to clear discrimination between the BFKL and the DGLAP dynamics.

New ways to access the transverse spin content of the nucleon

We first describe a new way to access the chiral odd transversity parton distribution in the proton through the photoproduction of lepton pairs. The basic ingredient is the interference of the usual Bethe-Heitler or Drell-Yan amplitudes with the amplitude of a process, where the photon couples to quarks through its chiral-odd distribution amplitude, which is normalized to the magnetic susceptibility of the QCD vacuum. We also show how the chiral-odd transversity generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of the nucleon can be accessed experimentally through the exclusive electro - or photoproduction process of a meson pair with a large invariant mass and when the final nucleon has a small transverse momentum. We calculate perturbatively the scattering amplitude at leading order, both in the high energy domain which may be accessed in electron-ion colliders and in the medium energy range. Estimated rates are encouraging.

On chiral-odd Generalized Parton Distributions

While the chiral-even content of the nucleon is better and better studied, the chiral-odd transversity generalized parton distributions (GPDs) remain almost unknown. These GPDs can be accessed experimentally through the exclusive photoproduction process gamma + N -> pi + rho + N', in the kinematics where the meson pair has a large invariant mass and the final nucleon has a small transverse momentum, provided the vector meson is produced in a transversally polarized state. We calculate perturbatively the scattering amplitude at leading order in alpha_s. We build a simple model for the dominant transversity GPD H_T(x,xi,t) based on the concept of double distribution. QCD factorization beyond leading twist in exclusive processes: rhoT-meson production

Exclusive processes in hard electroproduction is one of the best place for understanding the factorization properties of QCD. More generally, relying on these equations and on the invariance under rotation on the light-cone of the factorized amplitude, the non-perturbative Distribution Amplitudes can be reduced to a minimal set. Virtual Compton Scattering off a Spinless Target in the AdS/QCD correspondence

We perform a study of the doubly virtual Compton scattering off a spinless target gamma* P -> gamma* P' within the Anti-de Sitter(AdS)/QCD formalism. We find that the general structure allowed by the Lorentz invariance and gauge invariance of the Compton amplitude is not easily reproduced with the standard recipes of the AdS/QCD correspondence. In the soft-photon regime, where the semi-classical approximation is supposed to apply best, we show that the measurements of the electric and magnetic polarizabilities of a target like the charged pion in real Compton scattering, can already serve as stringent tests, and presumably exclude results based on the AdS/QCD correspondence in its minimal version.

Pomeron Odderon interference in production of two pi+ pi- pairs at LHC and ILC

We propose to look for the Odderon through the production of two pion pairs in photon collisions at high energies. We calculate the corresponding matrix elements in kT-factorization and discuss the possibility to reveal the existence of the perturbative Odderon by charge asymmetries, relying on models for the generalized distribution amplitudes of pi+ pi-. The application of this strategy to ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC suffers from the difficulty to trigger on interesting events and is plagued with severe background problems in p-p mode. Electron - positron colliders like ILC seem to better suit this physics.

BFKL resummation effects in gamma* gamma* --> rho rho

We calculate the leading order BFKL amplitude for the exclusive diffractive process γ*_L(Q1^2) γ*_L(Q2^2) \to ρ_L^0 ρ_L^0 in the forward direction, which can be studied in future high energy e^+e^- linear colliders. The resummation effects are very large compared to the fixed-order calculation. We also estimate the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections to the amplitude by using a specific resummation of higher order effects and find a substantial growth with energy, but smaller than in the leading logarithmic approximation.

QCD factorizations in gamma* gamma* -> rho rho

We calculate the lowest order QCD amplitude, i.e. the quark exchange contribution, to the forward production amplitude of a pair of longitudinally polarized $ρ$ mesons in the scattering of two virtual photons $γ^*(Q_1) γ^*(Q_2) \to ρ^0_L ρ^0_L$. We show that the scattering amplitude simultaneously factorizes in two quite different ways: the part with transverse photons is described by the QCD factorization formula involving the generalized distribution amplitude of two final $ρ$ mesons, whereas the part with longitudinally polarized photons takes the QCD factorized form with the $γ^*_L \to ρ^0_L$ transition distribution amplitude. Perturbative expressions for these, in general, non-perturbative functions are obtained in terms of the $ρ-$meson distribution amplitude.

$γ^* γ^* \to ρρ$ at very high energy

The next generation of $e^+e^-$-colliders will offer a possibility of clean testing of QCD dynamics in the Regge limit. Recent progress in the theoretical description of exclusive processes permits for many of them a consistent use of the perturbative QCD methods. We advocate that the exclusive diffractive production of two $ρ$ mesons from virtual photons at very high energies should be measurable at the future linear collider (LC).

$γ^*γ^*$ total cross-section in the dipole picture of BFKL dynamics

The total $γ^*γ^*$ cross-section is derived in the Leading Order QCD dipole picture of BFKL dynamics, and compared with the one from 2-gluon exchange. The Double Leading Logarithm approximation of the DGLAP cross-section is found to be small in the phase space studied. Cross sections are calculated for realistic data samples at the $e^+e^-$ collider LEP and a future high energy linear collider. Next to Leading order corrections to the BFKL evolution have been determined phenomenologically, and are found to give very large corrections to the BFKL cross-section, leading to a reduced sensitivity for observing BFKL.

The equivalence between the color dipole model and the BFKL Pomeron at leading order

We compute the onium-onium scattering amplitude at fixed impact parameter in the framework of the perturbative QCD dipole model. Relying on the conformal properties of the dipole cascade and of the elementary dipole-dipole scattering amplitude, we obtain an exact result for this onium-onium scattering amplitude, which is proved to be identical to the BFKL result, and which is frame invariant. The asymptotic expression for this amplitude at fixed impact parameter agrees with previous numerical simulations.

On the origin of the rise of $F_2$ at small $x$

We show that, provided that the non-perturbative input is regular at the right of the $ω=0$ singularity of the dominant DGLAP anomalous dimension, the rise of $F_2$ at small $x,$ experimentally measured by the averaged observable $λ= <(\partial ln F_2)/(\partial ln 1/x)>,$ is input-independent in the perturbative $Q^2$ regime at small $x$. $(\partial ln xF)/(\partial ln Q^2)$ appears to be more input-dependent in the same range. The GRV-type parametrisations verify these properties. Other models, namely the BFKL kernel(QCD dipoles), DGLAP(hard pomeron singularity) give different predictions for $λ$. At moderate $Q^2,$ there is a possibility of distinguishing these different perturbative QCD predictions in the near future.

On the Singular Behaviour of Structure Functions at Low X

We discuss the phenomenological extraction of the leading $ j$-plane singularity from singlet structure functions $ F_s $ measured at small $ x. $ Using a saddle-point method we show that $ {\rm d ln} F_s /{\rm d ln}{1 \over x} $ is a suitable observable for this purpose in the region $x \le 10^{-2}.$ As an application, we confront and distinguish in a model-independent way structure function parametrizations coming from two different QCD evolution equations, namely the Lipatov (or BFKL) equation and the Gribov-Lipatov -Altarelli-Parisi (or GLAP) equation. Recent results at HERA are discussed in this framework.
