Inelastic dark matter nucleus scattering

Direct detection experiments aim at the detection of dark matter in the form of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) by searching for signals from elastic dark matter nucleus scattering. Additionally, inelastic scattering in which the nucleus is excited is expected from nuclear physics and provides an additional detectable signal. In the context of a low-energy effective field theory we investigate the experimental reach to these inelastic transitions for xenon-based detectors employing a dual-phase time projection chamber. We find that once a dark matter signal is established, inelastic transitions enhance the discovery reach and we show that they allow a better determination of the underlying particle physics.

Anatomy of Coannihilation with a Scalar Top Partner

We investigate a simplified model of dark matter where a Majorana fermion $χ$ coannihilates with a colored scalar top partner $\tilde{t}$. We explore the cosmological history, with particular emphasis on the most relevant low-energy parameters: the mass splitting between the dark matter and the coannihilator, and the Yukawa coupling $y_χ$ that connects these fields to the Standard Model top quarks. We also allow a free quartic coupling $λ_h$ between a pair of Higgs bosons and $\tilde{t}$ pairs. We pay special attention to the case where the values take on those expected where $\tilde{t}$ corresponds to the superpartner of the right-handed top, and $χ$ is a bino. Direct detection, indirect detection, and colliders are complementary probes of this simple model.

On the impact of the Higgs boson on the production of exotic particles at the LHC

Many new physics models contain new particles that interact with the Higgs boson. These particles could be produced at the LHC via gluon-gluon fusion with an off-shell Higgs, as well as via the Drell-Yan process if charged under a gauge group. We consider in this paper simplified scenarios where the Standard Model is extended by one scalar or fermionic field that interacts with the Higgs boson and we evaluate the impact of the Higgs interaction on the production of the exotic particles at the LHC. This analysis applies in particular to TeV scale seesaw scenarios of neutrino mass generation.
