Evidence for resonant scattering of electrons by spin fluctuations in $LaNiO_3/LaAlO_3$ heterostructures grown by pulsed laser deposition

We present measurements of resistivity $ρ$ in highly oriented $LaNiO_3$ films grown on $LaAlO_3$ substrates by using a pulsed laser deposition technique. The experimental data are found to follow a universal $ρ(T) \propto T^{3/2}$ dependence for the entire temperature interval ($20K<T<300K$). The observed behavior has been attributed to a resonant scattering of electrons on antiferromagnetic fluctuations (with a characteristic energy $\hbar ω_{sf}\simeq 2.1meV$) triggered by spin-density wave propagating through the interface boundary of $LaNiO_3/LaAlO_3$ sandwich.

Analog of Fishtail Anomaly in Plastically Deformed Graphene

By introducing a strain rate generated pseudo-electric field, we discuss a magnetic response of a plastically deformed graphene. Our results demonstrate the appearance of dislocation induced paramagnetic moment in a zero applied magnetic field. More interestingly, it is shown that in the presence of the magnetoplastic effect, the resulting magnetization exhibits typical features of the so-called fishtail anomaly (previously observed in superconductors). The estimates of the model parameters suggest quite an optimistic possibility to experimentally realize the predicted phenomena in plastically deformed graphene.

Manifestation of geometric resonance in current dependence of AC susceptibility for unshunted array of Nb-AlOx-Nb Josephson junctions

A pronounced resonance-like structure has been observed in the current dependence of AC susceptibility for two-dimensional array of unshunted Nb-AlOx-Nb Josephson junctions. Using a single-plaquette approximation, we were able to successfully fit our data assuming that resonance structure is related to the geometric (inductive) properties of the array.

Pinning of spiral fluxons by giant screw dislocations in YBa_2Cu_3O_7 single crystals: Josephson analog of the fishtail effect

By using a highly sensitive homemade AC magnetic susceptibility technique, the magnetic flux penetration has been measured in YBa_2Cu_3O_7 single crystals with giant screw dislocations (having the structure of the Archimedean spirals) exhibiting a=3 spiral turnings, the pitch b=18.7 microns and the step height c=1.2nm (the last parameter is responsible for creation of extended weak-link structure around the giant defects). The magnetic field applied parallel to the surface enters winding around the weak-link regions of the screw in the form of the so-called spiral Josephson fluxons characterized by the temperature dependent pitch b_f(T). For a given temperature, a stabilization of the fluxon structure occurs when b_f(T) matches b (meaning an optimal pinning by the screw dislocations) and manifests itself as a pronounced low-field peak in the dependence of the susceptibility on magnetic field (applied normally to the surface) in the form resembling the high-field (Abrikosov) fishtail effect.

Universal R-C crossover in current-voltage characteristics for unshunted array of overdamped Nb-AlO_x-Nb Josephson junctions

We report on some unusual behavior of the measured current-voltage characteristics (CVC) in artificially prepared two-dimensional unshunted array of overdamped Nb-AlO_x-Nb Josephson junctions. The obtained nonlinear CVC are found to exhibit a pronounced (and practically temperature independent) crossover at some current I_{cr}=\left(\frac{1}{2β_C}-1\right)I_C from a resistance R dominated state with V_R=R\sqrt{I^2-I_C^2} below I_{cr} to a capacitance C dominated state with V_C=\sqrt{\frac{\hbar}{4eC}} \sqrt{I-I_C} above I_{cr}. The origin of the observed behavior is discussed within a single-plaquette approximation assuming the conventional RSJ model with a finite capacitance and the Ambegaokar-Baratoff relation for the critical current of the single junction.

Unusually strong coherent response from grain-boundary Josephson network in polycrystalline Pr_{x}Y_{1-x}Ba_2Cu_3O_7

By applying a highly sensitive homemade AC susceptibility technique to Pr_{x}Y_{1-x}Ba_2Cu_3O_7 polycrystals (with x=0.0, 0.1 and 0.3), we observed very sharp Fraunhofer type low-field periodic oscillations of the real part of the AC susceptibility which were attributed to Josephson vortices penetrating intergranular regions of grain-boundary Josephson network in our samples. Assuming the Lorentz type distribution of single-junction contact areas, we were able to successfully fit the experimental data.

Influence of nonuniform critical current density profile on magnetic field behavior of AC susceptibility in 2D Josephson Junction Arrays

Employing mutual-inductance measurements we study the magnetic field dependence of complex AC susceptibility of artificially prepared highly ordered (periodic) two-dimensional Josephson junction arrays of unshunted Nb-AlO_x-Nb junctions. The observed behavior can be explained assuming single-plaquette approximation of the overdamped model with an inhomogeneous critical current distribution within a single junction.

Manifestation of geometric quantization effects in temperature behavior of AC magnetic response of Josephson Junction Arrays

By improving resolution of home-made mutual-inductance measurements technique, a pronounced step-like structure (with the number of steps n=4 for all AC fields) has been observed in the temperature dependence of AC susceptibility in artificially prepared two-dimensional Josephson Junction Arrays (2D-JJA) of unshunted Nb-AlO_x-Nb junctions with β_L(4.2K)=30. Using a single-plaquette approximation of the overdamped 2D-JJA model, we were able to successfully fit our data assuming that steps are related to the geometric properties of the plaquette. The number of steps n corresponds to the number of flux quanta that can be screened by the maximum critical current of the junctions. The steps are predicted to manifest themselves in arrays with the inductance related parameter β_L(T) matching a "quantization" condition β_L(0)=2π(n+1).
