Resonance states 0+ of the Boron isotope B8 from the Jost-matrix analysis of experimental data

The available R-matrix parametrization of experimental data on the excitation functions for the elastic and inelastic p-Be7 scattering at the collision energies up to 3.4 MeV is used to generate the corresponding partial-wave cross sections in the states with J^pi=0+. Thus obtained data are considered as experimental partial cross sections and are fitted using the semi-analytic two-channel Jost matrix with proper analytic structure and some adjustable parameters. Then the spectral points are sought as zeros of the Jost matrix determinant (which correspond to the S-matrix poles) at complex energies. The correct analytic structure makes it possible to calculate the fitted Jost matrix on any sheet of the Riemann surface whose topology involves not only the square-root but also the logarithmic branching caused by the Coulomb interaction. In this way, two overlapping 0+ resonances at the excitation energies ~1.79 MeV and ~1.96 MeV have been found.

Jost-matrix analysis of the resonance 5He*(3/2+) near the dt-threshold

Experimental data on the n-alpha and dt collisions in the quantum state J^pi=3/2+ near the dt-threshold are fitted using the semi-analytic multi-channel Jost matrix with proper analytic structure and some adjustable parameters. Within a distance of 100,keV above the dt-threshold, three 3/2+ resonances are found on the non-physical sheet of the Riemann surface. Several S-matrix (shadow) poles on the other sheets of this surface are located as well.

Isovector soft dipole mode in 6Be

By using the 1H(6Li,6Be)n charge-exchange reaction, continuum states in 6Be were populated up to E_t=16 MeV, E_t being the 6Be energy above its three-body decay threshold. In kinematically complete measurements performed by detecting alpha+p+p coincidences, an E_t spectrum of high statistics was obtained, containing approximately ~5x10^6 events. The spectrum provides detailed correlation information about the well-known 0^+ ground state of 6Be at E_t=1.37 MeV and its 2^+ state at E_t=3.05 MeV. Moreover, a broad structure extending from 4 to 16 MeV was observed. It contains negative parity states populated by Delta L=1 angular momentum transfer without other significant contributions. This structure can be interpreted as a novel phenomenon, i.e. the isovector soft dipole mode associated with the 6Li ground state. The population of this mode in the charge-exchange reaction is a dominant phenomenon for this reaction, being responsible for about 60% of the cross section obtained in the measured energy range.

Halo Excitation of $^6$He in Inelastic and Charge-Exchange Reactions

Four-body distorted wave theory appropriate for nucleon-nucleus reactions leading to 3-body continuum excitations of two-neutron Borromean halo nuclei is developed. The peculiarities of the halo bound state and 3-body continuum are fully taken into account by using the method of hyperspherical harmonics. The procedure is applied for A=6 test-bench nuclei; thus we report detailed studies of inclusive cross sections for inelastic $^6$He(p,p')$^6$He$^*$ and charge-exchange $^6$Li(n,p)$^6$He$^*$ reactions at nucleon energy 50 MeV. The theoretical low-energy spectra exhibit two resonance-like structures. The first (narrow) is the excitation of the well-known $2^+$ three-body resonance. The second (broad) bump is a composition of overlapping soft modes of multipolarities $1^-, 2^+, 1^+, 0^+$ whose relative weights depend on transferred momentum and reaction type. Inelastic scattering is the most selective tool for studying the soft dipole excitation mode.
