Double Higgs Production in the 4$τ$ channel from resonances in longitudinal vector boson scattering at a 100 TeV collider

We discuss the sensitivity of a 100 TeV $pp$ collider to heavy resonances produced in longitudinal vector boson scattering and decaying to a pair of Higgs bosons. A Monte Carlo study has been performed using the $H \to ττ$ decay channel for both Higgs bosons, comparing the kinematics of such a signal to the irreducible Standard Model backgrounds. The results are presented in the context of a phenomenological model of a resonance ($η$) coupling to goldstone modes, $V_L V_L \to η\to HH$, as can arise in composite Higgs models. With a fractional width of 70% (20%), the $5 σ$ discovery reach is 4.2 (2.9) TeV in resonance mass for 10 ab$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. We also discuss the dependence of the mass reach on the collider energy and integrated luminosity.

Sensitivity to new high-mass states decaying to ttbar at a 100 TeV collider

We discuss the sensitivity of a 100 TeV pp collider to heavy particles decaying to top-antitop final states. This center-of-mass energy, together with an integrated luminosity of 10 ab-1, can produce heavy particles in the mass range of several tens of teraelectronvolts (TeV). A Monte Carlo study has been performed using boosted-top techniques to reduce QCD background for the reconstruction of heavy particles with masses in the range of 8-20 TeV, and various widths. In particular, we have studied two models that predict heavy states, a model with an extra gauge boson (Zprime) and with a Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitation of the gluon (gKK). We estimate the sensitive values of $σ\times$Br of about 2 (4) fb for Zprime (gKK), with a corresponding mass reach of 13 (20) TeV.

Measurement of high-Q2 neutral current deep inelastic e+p scattering cross sections with a longitudinally polarised positron beam at HERA

Measurements of neutral current cross sections for deep inelastic scattering in e+p collisions at HERA with a longitudinally polarised positron beam are presented. The single-differential cross-sections d(sigma)/dQ2, d(sigma)/dx and d(sigma)/dy and the reduced cross-section were measured in the kinematic region Q2 > 185 GeV2 and y < 0.9, where Q2 is the four-momentum transfer squared, x the Bjorken scaling variable, and y the inelasticity of the interaction. The measurements were performed separately for positively and negatively polarised positron beams. The measurements are based on an integrated luminosity of 135.5 pb-1 collected with the ZEUS detector in 2006 and 2007 at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV. The structure functions F3 and F3(gamma)Z were determined by combining the e+p results presented in this paper with previously published e-p neutral current results. The asymmetry parameter A+ is used to demonstrate the parity violation predicted in electroweak interactions. The measurements are well described by the predictions of the Standard Model.

A non-parametric peak finder algorithm and its application in searches for new physics

We have developed an algorithm for non-parametric fitting and extraction of statistically significant peaks in the presence of statistical and systematic uncertainties. Applications of this algorithm for analysis of high-energy collision data are discussed. In particular, we illustrate how to use this algorithm in general searches for new physics in invariant-mass spectra using pp Monte Carlo simulations.

Inclusive-jet photoproduction at HERA and determination of alphas

Inclusive-jet cross sections have been measured in the reaction ep->e+jet+X for photon virtuality Q2 < 1 GeV2 and gamma-p centre-of-mass energies in the region 142 < W(gamma-p) < 293 GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 300 pb-1. Jets were identified using the kT, anti-kT or SIScone jet algorithms in the laboratory frame. Single-differential cross sections are presented as functions of the jet transverse energy, ETjet, and pseudorapidity, etajet, for jets with ETjet > 17 GeV and -1 < etajet < 2.5. In addition, measurements of double-differential inclusive-jet cross sections are presented as functions of ETjet in different regions of etajet. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations give a good description of the measurements, except for jets with low ETjet and high etajet. The influence of non-perturbative effects not related to hadronisation was studied. Measurements of the ratios of cross sections using different jet algorithms are also presented; the measured ratios are well described by calculations including up to O(alphas2) terms. Values of alphas(Mz) were extracted from the measurements and the energy-scale dependence of the coupling was determined. The value of alphas(Mz) extracted from the measurements based on the kT jet algorithm is alphas(Mz) = 0.1206 +0.0023 -0.0022 (exp.) +0.0042 -0.0035 (th.); the results from the anti-kT and SIScone algorithms are compatible with this value and have a similar precision.

Measurement of the t dependence in exclusive photoproduction of Upsilon(1S) mesons at HERA

The exclusive photoproduction reaction gamma p -> Upsilon(1S) p has been studied with the ZEUS detector in ep collisions at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 468 pb^-1. The measurement covers the kinematic range 60<W<220 GeV and Q^2<1 GeV^2, where W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and Q^2 is the photon virtuality. The exponential slope, b, of the t dependence of the cross section, where t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex, has been measured, yielding b = 4.3 +2.0 -1.3 (stat.) +0.5 -0.6 (syst.) GeV^-2. This constitutes the first measurement of the t dependence of the gamma p -> Upsilon(1S) p cross section.

Production of Z0 bosons in elastic and quasi-elastic ep collisions at HERA

The production of Z0 bosons in the reaction ep -> eZ0p*, where p* stands for a proton or a low-mass nucleon resonance, has been studied in ep collisions at HERA using the ZEUS detector. The analysis is based on a data sample collected between 1996 and 2007, amounting to 496 pb-1 of integrated luminosity. The Z0 was measured in the hadronic decay mode. The elasticity of the events was ensured by a cut on eta_max < 3.0, where eta_max is the maximum pseudorapidity of energy deposits in the calorimeter defined with respect to the proton beam direction. A signal was observed at the Z0 mass. The cross section of the reaction ep -> eZ0p* was measured to be sigma(ep -> eZ0p*) = 0.13 +/- 0.06 (stat.) +/- 0.01 (syst.) pb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 0.16 pb. This is the first measurement of Z0 production in ep collisions.

Scaled momentum distributions for K0s and Lambda/bar Lambda in DIS at HERA

Scaled momentum distributions for the strange hadrons K0s and Lambda/bar Lambda were measured in deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 330 pb-1. The evolution of these distributions with the photon virtuality, Q2, was studied in the kinematic region 10<Q2<40000 GeV2 and 0.001<x<0.75, where x is the Bjorken scaling variable. Clear scaling violations are observed. Predictions based on different approaches to fragmentation were compared to the measurements. Leading-logarithm parton-shower Monte Carlo calculations interfaced to the Lund string fragmentation model describe the data reasonably well in the whole range measured. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations based on fragmentation functions, FFs, extracted from e+e- data alone, fail to describe the measurements. The calculations based on FFs extracted from a global analysis including e+e-, ep and pp data give an improved description. The measurements presented in this paper have the potential to further constrain the FFs of quarks, anti-quarks and gluons yielding K0s and Lambda/bar Lambda strange hadrons.

Search for single-top production in ep collisions at HERA

A search for single-top production, $ep \rightarrow etX$, has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $0.37\fbi$. No evidence for top production was found, consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model. Limits were computed for single-top production via flavour changing neutral current transitions. The result was combined with a previous ZEUS result yielding a total luminosity of 0.50fb-1. A 95% credibility level upper limit of 0.13 pb was obtained for the cross section at the centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=315\gev$.

Exclusive electroproduction of two pions at HERA

The exclusive electroproduction of two pions in the mass range 0.4 < Mππ < 2.5 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 82 pb-1. The analysis was carried out in the kinematic range of 2 < Q2 < 80 GeV2, 32 < W < 180 GeV and |t| < 0.6 GeV2, where Q2 is the photon virtuality, W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The two-pion invariant-mass distribution is interpreted in terms of the pion electromagnetic form factor, |F(Mππ)|, assuming that the studied mass range includes the contributions of the ρ, ρ' and ρ" vector-meson states. The masses and widths of the resonances were obtained and the Q2 dependence of the cross-section ratios σ(ρ' \rightarrow ππ)/σ(ρ) and σ(ρ" \rightarrow ππ)/σ(ρ) was extracted. The pion form factor obtained in the present analysis is compared to that obtained in e+e- \rightarrow π+π-.

Measurement of beauty production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA using decays into electrons

The production of beauty quarks in ep interactions has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA for exchanged four-momentum squared Q^2 > 10 GeV^2, using an integrated luminosity of 363 pb^{-1}. The beauty events were identified using electrons from semileptonic b decays with a transverse momentum 0.9 < p_T^e < 8 GeV and pseudorapidity |eta^e| < 1.5. Cross sections for beauty production were measured and compared with next-to-leading-order QCD calculations. The beauty contribution to the proton structure function F_2 was extracted from the double-differential cross section as a function of Bjorken-x and Q^2.

Measurement of heavy-quark jet photoproduction at HERA

Photoproduction of beauty and charm quarks in events with at least two jets has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 133 $pb^{-1}$. The fractions of jets containing b and c quarks were extracted using the invariant mass of charged tracks associated with secondary vertices and the decay-length significance of these vertices. Differential cross sections as a function of jet transverse momentum, $p_{T}^{\text{jet}}$, and pseudorapidity, $η^{\text{jet}}$, were measured. The data are compared with previous measurements and are well described by next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.

Measurement of beauty production in DIS and F_2^bbbar extraction at ZEUS

Beauty production in deep inelastic scattering with events in which a muon and a jet are observed in the final state has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 114 pb^-1. The fraction of events with beauty quarks in the data was determined using the distribution of the transverse momentum of the muon relative to the jet. The cross section for beauty production was measured in the kinematic range of photon virtuality, Q^2 > 2 Gev^2, and inelasticity, 0.05 < y < 0.7, with the requirement of a muon and a jet. Total and differential cross sections are presented and compared to QCD predictions. The beauty contribution to the structure function F_2 was extracted and is compared to theoretical predictions.

New approach for jet-shape identification of TeV-scale particles at the LHC

A new approach to jet-shape identification based on linear regression is discussed. It is designed for searches for new particles at the TeV scale decaying hadronically with strongly collimated jets. We illustrate the method using a Monte Carlo simulation for pp collisions at the LHC with the goal to reduce the contribution of QCD-induced events. We focus on a rather generic example X to ttbar to hadrons, with X being a heavy particle, but the approach is well suited for reconstruction of other decay channels characterized by a cascade decay of known states.

preprint2010arXiv

Searches for TeV-scale particles at the LHC using jet shapes

New particles at the TeV scale can decay hadronically with strongly collimated jets, thus the standard reconstruction methods based on invariant-masses of well-separated jets can fail. We discuss how to identify such particles in pp collisions at the LHC using jet shapes which help to reduce the contribution of QCD-induced events. We focus on a rather generic example X to ttbar to hadrons, with X being a heavy particle, but the approach is well suited for reconstruction of other decay channels characterized by a cascade decay of known states.

Measurement of charm and beauty production in deep inelastic ep scattering from decays into muons at HERA

The production of charm and beauty quarks in ep interactions has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA for squared four-momentum exchange Q^2>20 GeV^2, using an integrated luminosity of 126 pb^{-1}. Charm and beauty quarks were identified through their decays into muons. Differential cross sections were measured for muon transverse momenta p_T^μ>1.5 GeV and pseudorapidities -1.6<η^μ<2.3, as a function of p_T^μ, η^μ, Q^2 and Bjorken x. The charm and beauty contributions to the proton structure function F_2 were also extracted. The results agree with previous measurements based on independent techniques and are well described by QCD predictions.

Angular correlations in three-jet events in ep collisions at HERA

Three-jet production in deep inelastic ep scattering and photoproduction was investigated with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 127 pb-1. Measurements of differential cross sections are presented as functions of angular correlations between the three jets in the final state and the proton-beam direction. These correlations provide a stringent test of perturbative QCD and show sensitivity to the contributions from different colour configurations. Fixed-order perturbative QCD calculations assuming the values of the colour factors C_F, C_A and T_F as derived from a variety of gauge groups were compared to the measurements to study the underlying gauge group symmetry. The measured angular correlations in the deep inelastic ep scattering and photoproduction regimes are consistent with the admixture of colour configurations as predicted by SU(3) and disfavour other symmetry groups, such as SU(N) in the limit of large N.

Deep inelastic inclusive and diffractive scattering at $Q^2$ values from 25 to 320 GeV$^2$ with the ZEUS forward plug calorimeter

Deep inelastic scattering and its diffractive component, $ep \to e^{\prime}γ^* p \to e^{\prime}XN$, have been studied at HERA with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 52.4 pb$^{-1}$. The $M_X$ method has been used to extract the diffractive contribution. A wide range in the centre-of-mass energy $W$ (37 -- 245 GeV), photon virtuality $Q^2$ (20 -- 450 GeV$^2$) and mass $M_X$ (0.28 -- 35 GeV) is covered. The diffractive cross section for $2 < M_X < 15$ GeV rises strongly with $W$, the rise becoming steeper as $Q^2$ increases. The data are also presented in terms of the diffractive structure function, $F^{\rm D(3)}_2$, of the proton. For fixed $Q^2$ and fixed $M_X$, $\xpom F^{\rm D(3)}_2$ shows a strong rise as $\xpom \to 0$, where $\xpom$ is the fraction of the proton momentum carried by the Pomeron. For Bjorken-$x < 1 \cdot 10^{-3}$, $\xpom F^{\rm D(3)}_2$ shows positive $\log Q^2$ scaling violations, while for $x \ge 5 \cdot 10^{-3}$ negative scaling violations are observed. The diffractive structure function is compatible with being leading twist. The data show that Regge factorisation is broken.

Measurement of D+- and D0 production in deep inelastic scattering using a lifetime tag at HERA

The production of D+- and D0 mesons has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 133.6 pb-1. The measurements cover the kinematic range 5 < Q^2 < 1000 GeV^2, 0.02 < y < 0.7, 1.5 < p_T^D < 15 GeV and eta^D < 1.6. Combinatorial background to the D meson signals is reduced by using the ZEUS microvertex detector to reconstruct displaced secondary vertices. Production cross sections are compared with the predictions of next-to-leading-order QCD which is found to describe the data well. Measurements are extrapolated to the full kinematic phase space in order to obtain the open-charm contribution, F2^ccbar, to the proton structure function, F2.

Subjet distributions in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Subjet distributions were measured in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 81.7 pb-1. Jets were identified using the kT cluster algorithm in the laboratory frame. Subjets were defined as jet-like substructures identified by a reapplication of the cluster algorithm at a smaller value of the resolution parameter ycut. Measurements of subjet distributions for jets with exactly two subjets for ycut=0.05 are presented as functions of observables sensitive to the pattern of parton radiation and to the colour coherence between the initial and final states. Perturbative QCD predictions give an adequate description of the data.

Bose-Einstein Correlations of Charged and Neutral Kaons in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA

Bose-Einstein correlations of charged and neutral kaons have been measured in e+-p deep inelastic scattering with an integrated luminosity of 121 pb-1 using the ZEUS detector at HERA. The two-particle correlation function was studied as a function of the four-momentum difference of the kaon pairs, Q_12=sqrt{-(p_1-p_2)^2}, assuming a Gaussian shape for the particle source. The values of the radius of the production volume, r, and of the correlation strength, lambda, were obtained for both neutral and charged kaons. The radii for charged and neutral kaons are similar and are consistent with those obtained at LEP.

Dijet production in diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA

The production of dijets in diffractive deep inelastic scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of $61 \pbi$. The dijet cross section has been measured for virtualities of the exchanged virtual photon, $5 < Q^2 < 100 \gev^2$, and $γ^{*} p$ centre-of-mass energies, 100 < W < 250 GeV. The jets, identified using the inclusive k_{T} algorithm in the $γ^* p$ frame, were required to have a transverse energy $E^*_{T, \rm jet} > 4 \gev$ and the jet with the highest transverse energy was required to have $E^*_{T,\rm jet} > 5 \gev$. All jets were required to be in the pseudorapidity range $-3.5 < η^*_{\rm jet} < 0$. The differential cross sections are compared to leading-order predictions and next-to-leading-order QCD calculations based on recent diffractive parton densities extracted from inclusive diffractive deep inelastic scattering data.

Exclusive rho^0 production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Exclusive rho^0 electroproduction at HERA has been studied with the ZEUS detector using 120 pb^{-1} of integrated luminosity collected during 1996-2000. The analysis was carried out in the kinematic range of photon virtuality 2 < Q^2 < 160 GeV$^2, and gamma^* p centre-of-mass energy 32 < W < 180 GeV. The results include the Q^2 and W dependence of the gamma^* p --> rho^0 p cross section and the distribution of the squared-four-momentum transfer to the proton. The helicity analysis of the decay-matrix elements of the rho^0 was used to study the ratio of the gamma^* p cross section for longitudinal and transverse photon as a function of Q^2 and W. Finally, an effective Pomeron trajectory was extracted. The results are compared to various theoretical predictions.

Jet-radius dependence of inclusive-jet cross sections in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Differential inclusive-jet cross sections have been measured for different jet radii in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering for boson virtualities Q^2 > 125 GeV^2 with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 81.7 pb^-1. Jets were identified in the Breit frame using the k_T cluster algorithm in the longitudinally inclusive mode for different values of the jet radius R. Differential cross sections are presented as functions of Q^2 and the jet transverse energy, E_T,B^jet. The dependence on R of the inclusive-jet cross section has been measured for Q^2 > 125 and 500 GeV^2 and found to be linear with R in the range studied. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations give a good description of the measurements for 0.5 <= R <= 1. A value of alpha_s(M_Z) has been extracted from the measurements of the inclusive-jet cross-section dsigma/dQ^2 with R=1 for Q^2 > 500 GeV^2: alpha_s(M_Z) = 0.1207 +- 0.0014 (stat.) -0.0033 +0.0035 (exp.) -0.0023 +0.0022 (th.). The variation of alpha_s with E_T,B^jet is in good agreement with the running of alpha_s as predicted by QCD.

Leading neutron energy and pT distributions in deep inelastic scattering and photoproduction at HERA

The production of energetic neutrons in $ep$ collisions has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The neutron energy and $p_T^2$ distributions were measured with a forward neutron calorimeter and tracker in a $40 \pb^{-1}$ sample of inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) data and a $6 \pb^{-1}$ sample of photoproduction data. The neutron yield in photoproduction is suppressed relative to DIS for the lower neutron energies and the neutrons have a steeper $p_T^2$ distribution, consistent with the expectation from absorption models. The distributions are compared to HERA measurements of leading protons. The neutron energy and transverse-momentum distributions in DIS are compared to Monte Carlo simulations and to the predictions of particle exchange models. Models of pion exchange incorporating absorption and additional secondary meson exchanges give a good description of the data.

Measurement of (anti)deuteron and (anti)proton production in DIS at HERA

The first observation of (anti)deuterons in deep inelastic scattering at HERA has been made with the ZEUS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 300--318 GeV using an integrated luminosity of 120 pb-1. The measurement was performed in the central rapidity region for transverse momentum per unit of mass in the range 0.3<p_T/M<0.7. The particle rates have been extracted and interpreted in terms of the coalescence model. The (anti)deuteron production yield is smaller than the (anti)proton yield by approximately three orders of magnitude, consistent with the world measurements.

Measurement of D mesons Production in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA

Charm production in deep inelastic scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 82 pb^{-1}. Charm has been tagged by reconstructing D^{*+}, D^0, D^{+} and D_s^+ (+ c.c.) charm mesons. The charm hadrons were measured in the kinematic range p_T(D^{*+},D^0,D^{+}) > 3 GeV, p_T(D_s^+)>2 GeV and |η(D)| < 1.6 for 1.5 < Q^2 < 1000 GeV^2 and 0.02 < y < 0.7. The production cross sections were used to extract charm fragmentation ratios and the fraction of c quarks hadronising into a particular charm meson in the kinematic range considered. The cross sections were compared to the predictions of next-to-leading-order QCD, and extrapolated to the full kinematic region in p_T(D) and η(D) in order to determine the open-charm contribution, F_2^{c\bar{c}}(x,Q^2), to the proton structure function F_2.

Measurement of D*+- meson production in ep scattering at low Q^2

The production of D*+-(2010) mesons in ep scattering in the range of exchanged photon virtuality 0.05 < Q^2 < 0.7 GeV^2 has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 82 pb-1. The decay channels D*+ -> D0 pi+ with D0 -> K- pi+ and corresponding antiparticle decay were used to identify D* mesons and the ZEUS beampipe calorimeter was used to identify the scattered electron. Differential D* cross sections as functions of Q^2, inelasticity, y, transverse momentum of the D* meson, p_T(D*), and pseudorapidity of the D* meson, eta(D*), have been measured in the kinematic region 0.02 < y < 0.85, 1.5 < p_T(D*) < 9.0 GeV and |eta(D*)| < 1.5. The measured differential cross sections are in agreement with two different NLO QCD calculations. The cross sections are also compared to previous ZEUS measurements in the photoproduction and DIS regimes.

Measurement of K0S, Lambda, Antilambda production at HERA

The production of the neutral strange hadrons $K^{0}_{S}$, $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ has been measured in $ep$ collisions at HERA using the ZEUS detector. Cross sections, baryon-to-meson ratios, relative yields of strange and charged light hadrons, $Λ$ ($\barΛ$) asymmetry and polarization have been measured in three kinematic regions: $Q^2 > 25 \gev^2$; $5 < Q^2 < 25 \gev^2$; and in photoproduction ($Q^2 \simeq 0$). In photoproduction the presence of two hadronic jets, each with at least $5 \gev$ transverse energy, was required. The measurements agree in general with Monte Carlo models and are consistent with measurements made at $e^+ e^-$ colliders, except for an enhancement of baryon relative to meson production in photoproduction.

Measurement of open beauty production at HERA in the D* muon final state

The production of beauty quarks with a D*+- and a muon in the final state has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 114 pb-1. Low transverse-momentum thresholds for the muon and D* meson allow a measurement of beauty production closer to the production threshold than previous measurements. The beauty signal was extracted using the charge correlations and angular distributions of the muon with respect to the D* meson. Cross sections for photoproduction and deep inelastic scattering are somewhat higher than, but compatible with, next-to-leading-order QCD predictions, and compatible with other measurements.

Multijet production at low $x_{\rm Bj}$ in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Inclusive dijet and trijet production in deep inelastic $ep$ scattering has been measured for $10<Q^2<100$ GeV$^2$ and low Bjorken $x$, $10^{-4}<x_{\rm Bj}<10^{-2}$. The data were taken at the HERA $ep$ collider with centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 318 \gev$ using the ZEUS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $82 {\rm pb}^{-1}$. Jets were identified in the hadronic centre-of-mass (HCM) frame using the $k_{T}$ cluster algorithm in the longitudinally invariant inclusive mode. Measurements of dijet and trijet differential cross sections are presented as functions of $Q^2$, $x_{\rm Bj}$, jet transverse energy, and jet pseudorapidity. As a further examination of low-$x_{\rm Bj}$ dynamics, multi-differential cross sections as functions of the jet correlations in transverse momenta, azimuthal angles, and pseudorapidity are also presented. Calculations at $\mathcal{O}(α_{s}^3)$ generally describe the trijet data well and improve the description of the dijet data compared to the calculation at $\mathcal{O}(α_{s}^2)$.

Photoproduction of events with rapidity gaps between jets at HERA

The photoproduction of dijet events, where the two jets with the highest transverse energy are separated by a large gap in pseudorapidity, have been studied with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 39 pb$^{-1}$. Rapidity-gap events are defined in terms of the energy flow between the jets, such that the total summed transverse energy in this region is less than some value $E_{\rm T}^{\rm CUT}$. The data show a clear excess over the predictions of standard photoproduction models. This is interpreted as evidence for a strongly interacting exchange of a color-singlet object. Monte Carlo models which include such a color-singlet exchange are able to describe the data.

Search for stop production in R-parity-violating supersymmetry at HERA

A search for stop production in R-parity-violating supersymmetry has been performed in $e^{+}p$ interactions with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 65 pb$^{-1}$. At HERA, the R-parity-violating coupling $λ'$ allows resonant squark production, $e^+d\to\tilde{q}$. Since the lowest-mass squark state in most supersymmetry models is the light stop, $\tilde{t}$, this search concentrated on production of $\tilde{t}$, followed either by a direct R-parity-violating decay, or by the gauge decay to $b\tildeχ^+_{1}$. No evidence for stop production was found and limits were set on $λ'_{131}$ as a function of the stop mass in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The results have also been interpreted in terms of constraints on the parameters of the minimal Supergravity model.

Results of the searches for pentaquarks with strangeness in DIS at HERA

The K0s-p invariant mass spectrum was reconstructed in several kinematic regions with the main emphasis on the studies of the production mechanism of the Theta+ candidate recently observed by ZEUS. The candidate Theta+ signal was found to be produced predominantly in the forward hemisphere in the laboratory frame. This is unlike the case for the Lambda(1520) or the Lambda(c), and indicates that the Theta+ may have an unusual production mechanism related to proton-remnant fragmentation. H1 does not observe a signal and sets an upper limit at 95% C.L. which does not exclude the ZEUS observation.
