Possible types of dark matter condensation in embedding gravity

We investigate the possibility of explaining the observed effects usually attributed to the existence of dark matter through a transition from GR to a modified theory of gravity - embedding gravity. Since this theory can be reformulated as GR with additional fictitious matter of embedding gravity (FMEG), which moves independently of ordinary matter, we analyse solutions in which FMEG behaves similarly to cold dark matter. An upper bound on the possible density of FMEG is obtained, which explains the absence of dark matter effects on small scales. Possible static condensed structures of FMEG are found, which can be reduced to configurations of the types wall, string, and sphere. In the latter case, FMEG exhibits the properties of an isothermal ideal gas which has a linear equation of state. The emerging spherical condensations of FMEG create potential wells that facilitate galaxy formation. For large values of the radius, the corresponding density distribution profile behaves in the same way as the pseudo-isothermal profile (ISO), which is successfully employed in fitting galactic dark halo regions, and provides flat galactic rotation curves.

Canonical description for formulation of embedding gravity as a field theory in a flat spacetime

We consider the approach to gravity in which four-dimensional curved spacetime is represented by a surface in a flat Minkowski space of higher dimension. After a short overview of the ideas and results of such an approach we concentrate on the study of the so-called splitting gravity, a form of this description in which constant value surface of a set of scalar fields in the ambient flat space-time defines the embedded surface. We construct a form of action which is invariant w.r.t. all symmetries of this theory. We construct the canonical formalism for splitting gravity. The resulting theory turns out to be free of constraints. However, the Hamiltonian of this theory is an implicit function of canonical variables. Finally, we discuss the path integral quantization of such a theory.

Explicit isometric embeddings of collapsing dust ball

The work is devoted to the search for explicit isometric embeddings of a metric corresponding to the collapse of spherically symmetric matter with the formation of a black hole. Two approaches are considered: in the first, the embedding is constructed for the whole manifold at once; in the second, the idea of a junction of solutions, obtained separately for areas inside and outside the dust ball, is used. In the framework of the first approach, a global smooth embedding in 7D space with a signature (2 + 5) was constructed. It corresponds to the formation of the horizon as a result of matter falling from infinity. The second approach generally leads to an embedding in 7D space with the signature (1 + 6). This embedding corresponds to the case when matter flies out of a white hole with the disappearance of its horizon, after which the radius of the dust ball reaches its maximum, and then a collapse occurs with the formation of the horizon of a black hole. The embedding obtained is not smooth everywhere --- it contains a kink on the edge of the dust ball, and {also, it is} not quite global. In the particular case, when the maximum radius of the dust ball coincides with the radius of the horizon, it is possible to construct a global smooth embedding in a flat 6D space with a signature (1 + 5).

Modifications of gravity via differential transformations of field variables

We discuss field theories appearing as a result of applying field transformations with derivatives (differential field transformations, DFT) to a known theory. We begin with some simple examples of DFTs to see the basic properties of the procedure. In this process the dynamics of the theory might either change or conserve. After that we concentrate on the theories of gravity which appear as a result of various DFT applied to general relativity, namely the mimetic gravity and Regge-Teitelboim embedding theory. We review main results related to the extension of dynamics in these theories, as well as the possibility to write down the action of a theory after DFT as the action of the original theory before DFT plus an additional term. Such a term usually contains some constraints with Lagrange multipliers and can be interpreted as an action of additional matter, which might be of use in cosmological applications, e.g. for the explanation of the effects of dark matter.

Polyakov-like approach to the modified gravity and other geometric theories

We study the procedure that allows to rewrite the actions of some modified gravity theories like mimetic gravity and Regge-Teitelboim embedding theory as Einstein-Hilbert actions with additional matter contributions. It turns out that this procedure can be applied to brane action, which lead to a polynomial brane action. We also examine the connection between this procedure and Polyakov trick in string theory.

Classification of global minimal embeddings for nonrotating black holes

We consider the problem of the existence of global embeddings of metrics of spherically symmetric black holes into an ambient space with the minimal possible dimension. We classify the possible types of embeddings by the type of realization of the metric symmetry by ambient space symmetries. For the Schwarzschild, Schwarzschild-de Sitter, and Reissner-Nordstrom black holes, we prove that the known global embeddings are the only ones. We obtain a new global embedding for the Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter metrics and prove that constructing such embeddings is impossible for the Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter metric. We also discuss the possibility of constructing global embeddings of the Reissner-Nordstrom-anti-de Sitter metric.

External time canonical formalism for gravity in terms of embedding theory

The formulation of gravity theory is considered where space-time is a 4-dimensional surface in flat ten-dimensional space. The possibility of using the "external" time (the time of ambient space) in this approach is investigated. The transition to the "external" time is realized with the help of partial gauge fixing, the coordinate condition which equates the timelike coordinate of the surface and time of the ambient space. It is shown that by using such a gauge condition in the action, the loss of any equations of motion does not take place, although it can happen in the general case. A version of the canonical formalism of the theory is studied in which certain additional constraints are imposed, providing the equivalence of the approach under consideration and general relativity. The corresponding first-class constraint algebra is obtained. It is proved that using the gauge directly in the action leads to the same result as gauge fixing in the constraint algebra, despite the artificial introduction of some of the constraints into the theory. Application of the "external" time may be useful for attempts to quantize the theory as well as for studies in embedding theory where 4-dimensional surfaces fill the whole ambient space and coordinates on the surfaces are not introduced.

Hawking into Unruh mapping for embeddings of hyperbolic type

We study the conditions of the existence of Hawking into Unruh mapping for hyperbolic (Fronsdal-type) embeddings of metric into the Minkowski space, for which timelines are hyperbolas. Many examples are known for global embeddings into the Minkowskian spacetime (GEMS) with such mapping for physically interesting metrics with some symmetry. However the examples of embeddings, both smooth and hyperbolic, for which there is no mapping, were also given. In the present work we prove that Hawking into Unruh mapping takes place for a hyperbolic embedding of an arbitrary metric with a time-like Killing vector and a Killing horizon if the embedding of such type exists and smoothly covers the horizon. At the same time we do not assume any symmetry (spherical for example), except the time translational invariance which corresponds to the existence of a time-like Killing vector. We show that the known examples of the absence of mapping do not satisfy the formulated conditions of its existence.

Pauli-Villars Regularization and Light Front Hamiltonian in (2+1)-dimensional Yang-Mills Theory

The renormalization problem of (2+1)-dimensional Yang-Mills theory quantized on the light front is considered. Extra fields analogous to those used in Pauli-Villars regularization are introduced to restore perturbative equivalence between such quantized theory and conventional formulation in Lorentz coordinates. These fields also provide necessary ultraviolet regularization to the theory. Obtained results allow to construct renormalized Hamiltonian of the theory on the light front.

Pauli-Villars Regularization in nonperturbative Hamiltonian approach on the Light Front

The advantage of Pauli-Villars regularization in quantum field theory quantized on the light front is explained. Simple examples of scalar $λφ^4$ field theory and Yukawa-type model are used. We give also an example of nonperturbative calculation in the theory with Pauli-Villars fields, using for that a model of anharmonic oscillator modified by inclusion of ghost variables playing the role similar to Pauli-Villars fields.

Relation between quantum effects in General Relativity and embedding theory

We present results relevant to the relation between quantum effects in a Riemannian space and on the surface appearing as a result of its isometric embedding in a flat space of a higher dimension. We discuss the mapping between the Hawking effect fixed by an observer in the Riemannian space with a horizon and the Unruh effect related to an accelerated motion of this observer in the ambient space. We present examples for which this mapping holds and examples for which there is no mapping. We describe the general form of the hyperbolic embedding of the metric with a horizon smoothly covering the horizon and prove that there is a Hawking into Unruh mapping for this embedding. We also discuss the possibility of relating two-point functions in a Riemannian space and the ambient space in which it is embedded. We obtain restrictions on the geometric parameters of the embedding for which such a relation is known.

Constraint algebra for Regge-Teitelboim formulation of gravity

We consider the formulation of the gravity theory first suggested by Regge and Teitelboim where the space-time is a four-dimensional surface in a flat ten-dimensional space. We investigate a canonical formalism for this theory following the approach suggested by Regge and Teitelboim. Under constructing the canonical formalism we impose additional constraints agreed with the equations of motion. We obtain the exact form of the first-class constraint algebra. We show that this algebra contains four constraints which form a subalgebra (the ideal), and if these constraints are fulfilled, the algebra becomes the constraint algebra of the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner formalism of Einstein's gravity. The reasons for the existence of additional first-class constraints in the canonical formalism are discussed.

Renormalized Light Front Hamiltonian in the Pauli-Villars Regularization

We address the problem of nonperturbative calculations on the light front in quantum field theory regularized by Pauli-Villars method. As a preliminary step we construct light front Hamiltonians in (2+1)-dimensional $λϕ^4$ model, for the cases without and with spontaneous symmetry breaking. The renormalization of these Hamiltonians in Pauli-Villars regularization is carried out via comparison of all-order perturbation theory, generated by these Hamiltonians, and the corresponding covariant perturbation theory in Lorentz coordinates.

The approach to gravity as a theory of embedded surface

We study the approach to gravity in which our curved spacetime is considered as a surface in a flat ambient space of higher dimension (the embedding theory). The dynamical variable in this theory is not a metric but an embedding function. The Euler-Lagrange equations for this theory (Regge-Teitelboim equations) are more general than the Einstein equations, and admit "extra solutions" which do not correspond to any Einsteinian metric. The Regge-Teitelboim equations can be explicitly analyzed for the solutions with high symmetry. We show that symmetric embeddings of a static spherically symmetric asymptotically flat metrics in a 6-dimensional ambient space do not admit extra solutions of the vacuum Regge-Teitelboim equations. Therefore in the embedding theory the solutions with such properties correspond to the exterior Schwarzchild metric.

When does the Hawking into Unruh mapping for global embeddings work?

We discuss for which smooth global embeddings of a metric into a Minkowskian spacetime the Hawking into Unruh mapping takes place. There is a series of examples of global embeddings into the Minkowskian spacetime (GEMS) with such mapping for physically interesting metrics. These examples use Fronsdal-type embeddings for which timelines are hyperbolas. In the present work we show that for some new embeddings (non Fronsdal-type) of the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom metrics there is no mapping. We give also the examples of hyperbolic and non hyperbolic type embeddings for the de Sitter metric for which there is no mapping. For the Minkowski metric where there is no Hawking radiation we consider a non trivial embedding with hyperbolic timelines, hence in the ambient space the Unruh effect takes place, and it follows that there is no mapping too. The considered examples show that the meaning of the Hawking into Unruh mapping for global embeddings remains still insufficiently clear and requires further investigations.

Embeddings for solutions of Einstein equations

We study isometric embeddings of some solutions of the Einstein equations with suffciently high symmetries into a flat ambient space. We briefly describe a method for constructing surfaces with a given symmetry. We discuss all minimal embeddings of the Schwarzschild metric obtained using this method and show how the method can be used to construct all minimal embeddings for the Friedmann models. We classify all the embeddings in terms of realizations of symmetries of the corresponding solutions.

Embeddings for Schwarzschild metric: classification and new results

We suggest a method to search the embeddings of Riemannian spaces with a high enough symmetry in a flat ambient space. It is based on a procedure of construction surfaces with a given symmetry. The method is used to classify the embeddings of the Schwarzschild metric which have the symmetry of this solution, and all such embeddings in a six-dimensional ambient space (i.e. a space with a minimal possible dimension) are constructed. Four of the six possible embeddings are already known, while the two others are new. One of the new embeddings is asymptotically flat, while the other embeddings in a six-dimensional ambient space do not have this property. The asymptotically flat embedding can be of use in the analysis of the many-body problem, as well as for the development of gravity description as a theory of a surface in a flat ambient space.

From the Embedding Theory to General Relativity in a result of inflation

We study the embedding theory being a formulation of the gravitation theory where the independent variable is the embedding function for the four-dimensional space-time in a flat ambient space. We do not impose additional constraints which are usually used to remove from the theory the extra solutions not being the solutions of Einstein equations. In order to show the possibility of automatic removal of these extra solutions we analyze the equations of the theory, assuming an inflation period during the expansion of the Universe. In the framework of FRW symmetry we study the initial conditions for the inflation, and we show that after its termination the Einstein equations begin to satisfy with a very high precision. The properties of the theory equations allow us to suppose with confidence that the Einstein equations will satisfy with enough precision out of the framework of FRW symmetry as well. Thus the embedding theory can be considered as a theory of gravity which explains observed facts without any additional modification of it and we can use this theory in a flat space when we try to develop a quantum theory of gravity.

Gravity as a field theory in flat space-time

We propose a formulation of gravity theory in the form of a field theory in a flat space-time with a number of dimensions greater than four. Configurations of the field under consideration describe the splitting of this space-time into a system of mutually noninteracting four-dimensional surfaces. Each of these surfaces can be considered our four-dimensional space-time. If the theory equations of motion are satisfied, then each surface satisfies the Regge-Teitelboim equations, whose solutions, in particular, are solutions of the Einstein equations. Matter fields then satisfy the standard equations, and their excitations propagate only along the surfaces. The formulation of the gravity theory under consideration could be useful in attempts to quantize it.

Feynman perturbation theory for gauge theory on transverse lattice

Feynman perturbation theory for nonabelian gauge theory in light-like gauge is investigated. A lattice along two space-like directions is used as a gauge invariant ultraviolet regularization. For preservation of the polinomiality of action we use as independent variables arbitrary (non-unitary) matrices related to the link of the lattice. The action of the theory is selected in such a way to preserve as much as possible the rotational invariance, which remains after introduction of the lattice, as well as to make superfluous degrees of freedom vanish in the limit of removing the regularization. Feynman perturbation theory is constructed and diagrams which does not contain ultraviolet divergences are analyzed. The scheme of renormalization of this theory is discussed.

Canonical formulation of the embedded theory of gravity equivalent to Einstein's General Relativity

We study the approach in which independent variables describing gravity are functions of the space-time embedding into a flat space of higher dimension. We formulate a canonical formalism for such a theory in a form, which requires imposing additional constraints, which are a part of Einstein's equations. As a result, we obtain a theory with an eight-parameter gauge symmetry. This theory becomes equivalent to Einstein's general relativity either after partial gauge fixing or after rewriting the metric in the form that is invariant under the additional gauge transformations. We write the action for such a theory.
