Implications of $A_4$ modular symmetry on Neutrino mass, Mixing and Leptogenesis with Linear Seesaw

The present work is inspired by the application of $A_4$ modular symmetry in the linear seesaw framework, which restricts the use of multiple flavon fields. Linear seesaw is realized with six heavy $SU(2)_L$ singlet fermion superfields and a weighton in a supersymmetric framework. The non-trivial transformation of Yukawa couplings under the $A_4$ modular symmetry helps to explore the neutrino phenomenology with a specific flavor structure of the mass matrix. We discuss the phenomena of neutrino mixing and show that the obtained mixing angles and CP violating phase in this framework are compatible with the observed $3σ$ range of the current oscillation data. In addition, we also investigate the non-zero CP asymmetry from the decay of lightest heavy fermion superfield to explain the preferred phenomena of baryogenesis through leptogenesis including flavor effects.

Light dark matter, rare $B$ decays with missing energy in $L_μ-L_τ$ model with a scalar leptoquark

We investigate the phenomenology of light GeV-scale fermionic dark matter in $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ gauge extension of the Standard Model. Heavy neutral fermions alongside with a $S_1(\overline{3}$,$1$,$1/3$) scalar leptoquark and an inert scalar doublet are added to address the flavor anomalies and light neutrino mass respectively. The light gauge boson associated with $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ gauge group mediates dark to visible sector and helps to obtain the correct relic density. Aided with a colored scalar, we constrain the new model parameters by using the branching ratios of various $b \to sll$ and $b \to s γ$ decay processes as well as the lepton flavour non-universality observables $R_{K^{(*)}}$ and then show the implication on the branching ratios of some rare semileptonic $B \to (K^{(*)}, ϕ)+$ missing energy, processes.

Linear seesaw in $A^\prime_5$ modular symmetry with Leptogenesis

In this paper, we investigate the implication of modular $Γ^{\prime}_5 \simeq A^{\prime}_5$ symmetry on neutrino oscillation phenomenology in the linear seesaw framework. In order to achieve the well defined mass structure for the light active neutrinos as dictated by the linear seesaw mechanism, we introduce six heavy fermion fields along with a pair of weightons to retain the holomorphic nature of the superpotential. The notable feature of modular symmetry is that, it reduces the usage of flavon fields significantly. In addition, the Yukawa couplings transform non-trivially under the flavor symmetry group and expressed in terms of the Dedekind eta functions, the $q$ expansion of which renders numerical simplicity in calculations. We demonstrate that the model framework diligently accommodates all the neutrino oscillation data. Alongside, we also investigate the effect of CP asymmetry generated from the decay of lightest heavy fermions to explain the observed baryon asymmetry through the phenomenon of leptogenesis.

Optimal configuration of Protvino to ORCA experiment for hierarchy and non-standard interactions

In this paper, we study the hierarchy sensitivity of Protvino to ORCA (P2O) experiment in three flavour scenario as well as its sensitivity to non-standard interactions (NSI) in neutrino propagation. Because of the largest possible baseline length of 2595 km, P2O is expected to have strong sensitivity towards neutrino mass hierarchy and NSI parameters. In our study, we show that even though the number of appearance channel events for the minimal configuration of P2O are higher compared to DUNE, still the hierarchy sensitivity of P2O is less than DUNE because of large background events. Our results show that for a background reduction factor of 0.46 and appearance channel background systematic normalization error of $4\%$, the hierarchy sensitivity of P2O becomes equivalent of DUNE for $δ_{\rm CP} = 195^\circ$. We call this configuration of P2O as optimized P2O. Regarding the study of NSI, we find that, for $ε_{eμ}$ ($ε_{eτ}$) sensitivity of DUNE is similar (better) as compared to optimized P2O when both $ε_{eμ}$ and $ε_{eτ}$ are included in the analysis. Our results show that in presence of NSI, the change of hierarchy sensitivity with respect to standard three flavor scenario, is higher in P2O as compared to DUNE. Further, hierarchy sensitivity in presence of NSI is lower (higher) than sensitivity in the standard three flavour scenario for $δ_{\rm CP} = 270^\circ (90^\circ)$. It is important to note that hierarchy sensitivity of optimized P2O does not get significantly better than DUNE for the current favourable values of $δ_{\rm CP}$ which is $180^\circ < δ_{\rm CP} < 360^\circ$ as obtained by the global analysis in both standard three flavour and in presence of NSI.

Inverse seesaw in $A_5^\prime$ modular symmetry

We make an investigation of modular $Γ^{\prime}_5 \simeq A^{\prime}_5$ group in inverse seesaw framework. Modular symmetry is advantageous because it reduces the usage of extra scalar fields significantly. Moreover, the Yukawa couplings are expressed in terms of Dedekind eta functions, which also have a $q$ expansion form, utilized to achieve numerical simplicity. Our proposed model includes six heavy fermion superfields i.e., $\mathcal{N}_{Ri}$, $\mathcal{S}_{Li}$ and a weighton. The study of neutrino phenomenology becomes simplified and effective by the usage of $A^\prime_5$ modular symmetry, which provides us a well defined mass structure for the lepton sector. Here, we observe that all the neutrino oscillation parameters, as well as the effective electron neutrino mass in neutrinoless double beta decay can be accommodated in this model. We also briefly discuss the lepton flavor violating decays $\ell_i \to \ell_j γ$ and comment on non-unitarity of lepton mixing matrix.

Updated sensitivity of DUNE in 3+1 scenario with far and near detectors

In this paper we present the updated physics sensitivity of DUNE in presence of a light sterile neutrino with both far and near detectors. In the previous studies, the sensitivities were obtained using the configuration of DUNE as described in the conceptual design report (CDR). In this article, we consider the configuration of DUNE as given in the technical design report (TDR) and study the capability of this experiment to constrain the sterile mixing parameters as well as its capability to measure the standard oscillation parameters in 3+1 scenario. Our results show that in 3+1 scenario, the sensitivity of DUNE to measure the mass hierarchy, octant and CP violation deteriorates if we only consider the far detector. However, a combined analysis of far and near detector improves the sensitivity.

A modular $A_4$ symmetric Scotogenic model for Neutrino mass and Dark Matter

Modular symmetries have been impeccable in neutrino and quark sectors. This motivated us, therefore, to propose a variant of scotogenic model based on modular $A_4$ symmetry to realize the neutrino mass generation at one-loop level through radiative mechanism. Alongside, the lepton flavour violating process $μ\to e γ$ and the muon $g-2$ anomaly are also addressed. The lightest Majorana fermions turn out to be potential dark matter candidates, made stable by suitable assignment of modular weights. The relic density of the same has been computed with annihilations mediated by inert scalars and new $U(1)$ gauge boson.

Exploring the effect of Lorentz invariance violation with the currently running long-baseline experiments

Neutrinos are the fundamental particles, blind to all kind of interactions except the weak and gravitational. Hence, they can propagate very long distances without any deviation. This characteristic property can thus provide an ideal platform to investigate Planck suppressed physics through their long distance propagation. In this work, we intend to investigate CPT violation through Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) in the long-baseline accelerator based neutrino experiments. Considering the simplest four-dimensional Lorentz violating parameters, for the first time, we obtain the sensitivity limits on the LIV parameters from the currently running long-baseline experiments T2K and NO$ν$A. In addition to this, we show their effects on mass hierarchy and CP violation sensitivities by considering NO$ν$A as a case study. We find that the sensitivity limits on LIV parameters obtained from T2K are much weaker than that of NO$ν$A and the synergy of T2K and NO$ν$A can improve these sensitivities. All these limits are slightly weaker ($2 σ$ level) compared to the values extracted from Super-Kamiokande experiment with atmospheric neutrinos. Moreover, we observe that the mass hierarchy and CPV sensitivities are either enhanced or deteriorated significantly in the presence of LIV as these sensitivities crucially depend on the new CP-violating phases. We also present the correlation between $\sin^2 θ_{23}$ and the LIV parameter $|a_{αβ}|$, as well as $δ_{CP}$ and $|a_{αβ}|$.

Light sterile neutrinos and their implications on currently running long-baseline and neutrinoless double beta decay experiments

Recent $ν_e$ appearance data from the Mini Booster Neutrino Experiment (MiniBooNE) are in support of the excess of events reported by the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector (LSND), which provides an indirect hint for the existence of eV-scale sterile neutrino. As these sterile neutrinos can mix with the standard active neutrinos, in this paper we explore the effect of such active-sterile mixing on the determination of various oscillation parameters by the currently running long-baseline neutrino experiments T2K and NO$ν$A. We find that the existence of sterile neutrino can lead to new kind of degeneracies among these parameters which would substantially deteriorate the mass hierarchy sensitivity of NO$ν$A experiment. We further notice that the inclusion of data from T2K experiment helps in resolving the degeneracies. The impact of new CP violating phases $δ_{14}$ and $δ_{34}$ on the maximal CP-violation exclusion sensitivity for NO$ν$A experiment has also been illustrated. Finally, we discuss the implication of such light sterile neutrinos on neutrinoless double beta decay processes in line with recent experimental results, as well as on the sensitivity reach of future experiments.

Neutrino Phenomenology and Dark matter in an $A_4$ flavour extended B-L model

We present an $A_4$ flavor extended $\rm B-L$ model for realization of eV scale sterile neutrinos, motivated by the recent experimental hints from both particle physics and cosmology. The framework considered here is a gauged $\rm B-L$ extension of standard model without the introduction of right-handed neutrinos, where the gauge triangle anomalies are canceled with the inclusion of three exotic neutral fermions $N_{i}$ ($i=1,2,3$) with $\rm B-L$ charges $-4,-4$ and $5$. The usual Dirac Yukawa couplings between the SM neutrinos and the exotic fermions are absent and thus, the model allows natural realization of eV scale sterile-like neutrino and its mixing with standard model neutrinos by invoking $\rm A_4$ flavor symmetry. We demonstrate how the exact tri-bimaximal mixing pattern is perturbed due to active-sterile mixing by analyzing $1+3$ case in detail. We also show the implication of eV scale sterile-like neutrino on various observables in neutrino oscillation experiments and the effective mass in neutrinoless double beta decay. Another interesting feature of the model is that one of three exotic fermions is required to explain eV scale phenomena, while other two fermions form stable dark matter candidates and their total relic density satisfy the observed $3σ$ limit of Planck data. We constrain the gauge parameters associated with $U(1)$ gauge extension, using relic density and collider bounds.

Exploring Dark Matter, Neutrino mass and flavour anomalies in L_μ-L_τ model

We investigate Majorana dark matter in a new variant of $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ gauge extension of Standard Model, containing three additional neutral fermions $N_{e}, N_μ, N_τ$, along with a $(\bar{3},1,1/3)$ scalar Leptoquark (SLQ) and an inert doublet, to study the phenomenology of dark matter, neutrino mass generation and flavour anomalies on a single platform. The lightest mass eigenstate of the $N_μ, N_τ$ neutral fermions plays the role of dark matter. We compute the WIMP-nucleon cross section in leptoquark portal and the relic density mediated by inert doublet components, leptoquark and the new $Z^{\prime}$ boson. We constrain the parameter space consistent with Planck limit on relic density, PICO-60 and LUX bounds on spin-dependent direct detection cross section. We also discuss about the neutrino mass generation at one-loop level and the viable parameter region to explain current neutrino oscillation data. The $Z^\prime$ gauge boson of extended $U(1)$ symmetry and the SLQ play an important role in settling the known issues of flavor sector.

Singlet scalar Dark matter in $U(1)_{B-L}$ models without right-handed neutrinos

We investigate the phenomenology of singlet scalar dark matter in a simple $B-L$ gauge extension of the Standard Model where the dark matter particle is charged under the $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry. The non-trivial gauge anomalies are cancelled with the introduction of three exotic fermions with $B-L$ charges as $-4,-4,5$, instead of right-handed neutrinos $ν_{Ri}~(i=1,2,3)$ with $B-L=-1$ in conventional $U(1)_{B-L}$ model. Without the need of any ad-hoc discrete symmetry, the $B-L$ charge plays a crucial role in stabilizing the dark matter. We make a comprehensive study of dark matter phenomenology in the scalar and gauge portals separately. In the gauge-mediated regime, we invoke the LEP-II constraints and dilepton limits of ATLAS on the gauge parameters. A massless physical Goldstone plays a vital role in the scalar-portal dark matter observables, becomes a unique feature of the model. We show the mechanism of generating the light neutrino mass at one-loop level where the dark matter singlet runs in the loop. We shed light on the semi-annihilation and finally, we comment on indirect signals in this framework.

Effects of scalar leptoquark on semileptonic $Λ_b$ decays

We study the scalar leptoquark effects on the rare semileptonic decays of $Λ_b$ baryon, governed by the quark level transition $b \to s l^+ l^-$. We estimate the branching ratios, forward-backward asymmetries, lepton polarization parameters and the lepton flavour non-universality effects in these decay channels. We find significant deviations from the corresponding standard model predictions in some of the observables due to leptoquark effects. We also investigate the lepton flavour violating decays $Λ_b \to Λl_i^- l_j^+$, the branching ratios of which are found to be ${\cal O}(10^{-10} - 10^{-9})$.

Lepton flavour violating B meson decays via scalar leptoquark

We study the effect of scalar leptoquarks in the lepton flavour violating $B$ meson decays induced by the flavour changing transitions $b \to q l_i^+ l_j^-$ with $q=s,d$. In the standard model these transitions are extremely rare as they are either two-loop suppressed or proceed via box diagrams with tiny neutrino masses in the loop. However, in the leptoquark model they can occur at tree level and are expected to have significantly large branching ratios. The leptoquark parameter space is constrained using the experimental limits on the branching ratios of $B_q \rightarrow l^+ l^-$ processes. Using such constrained parameter space, we predict the branching ratios of LFV semileptonic $B$ meson decays, such as $B^+ \to K^+ (π^+) l_i^+ l_j^-$, $B^+ \to (K^{* +}, ρ^+) l_i^+ l_j^-$ and $B_s \to ϕl_i^+ l_j^-$, which are found to be within the experimental reach of LHCb and the upcoming Belle II experiments. We also investigate the rare leptonic $K_{L, S} \to μ^+ μ^- (e^+ e^-)$ and $K_{L} \to μ^\mp e^\pm$ decays in the leptoquark model.

Leptoquark effects on $b \to s ν\barν$ and $B \to K l^+ l^-$ decay processes

We study the rare semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons induced by $b \to s ν\barν$ as well as $b \to s l^+ l^-$ transitions in the scalar leptoquark model where the leptoquarks transform as $(3,2,7/6)$ and $(3,2,1/6)$ under the standard model gauge group. The leptoquark parameter space is constrained using the most recent experimental results on ${\rm Br}(B_s \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-)$ and ${\rm Br}(B_d \to X_s μ^+ μ^-)$ processes. Considering only the baryon number conserving leptoquark interactions, we estimate the branching ratios for the exclusive $\bar{B} \rightarrow \bar{K}^{(*)} ν\barν$ and inclusive $B \rightarrow X_s ν\barν$ decay processes by using the constraint parameters. We also obtain the low recoil (large lepton invariant mass, i.e., $q^2 \sim m^2_b$) predictions for the angular distribution of $\bar B \rightarrow \bar{K} l^+ l^-$ process and several other observables including the flat term and lepton flavour non-universality factor in this model.

Study of the rare semileptonic decays $B_d^0 \to K^* l^+ l^-$ in scalar leptoquark model

We study the effect of scalar leptoquarks on the exclusive rare $B$ meson decays $\bar{B}_d^0 \rightarrow \bar{K}^{* 0}\left(\rightarrow K^-π^+\right) l^+ l^-$ in the full kinematically accessible physical region. We work out the constraints on leptoquark parameter space using the measured branching ratio of $B_s \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ process by the CMS and LHCb collaborations. We compute the branching ratio, forward-backward asymmetry and isospin asymmetry distribution using the constrained parameter space. We also look into various form factor independent and CP violating observables in the scalar leptoquark model.

Scalar leptoquarks and the rare B meson decays

We study some rare decays of $B$ meson involving the quark level transition $b \to q l^+l^- (q=d,s)$ in the scalar leptoquark model. We constrain the leptoquark parameter space using the recently measured branching ratios of $B_{s,d} \to μ^+ μ^-$ processes. Using such parameters, we obtain the branching ratios, direct CP violation parameters and isospin asymmetries in $B \to K μ^+ μ^-$ and $B \to πμ^+ μ^-$ processes. We also obtain the branching ratios for some lepton flavour violating decays $B \to l_i^+ l_j^-$. We find that the various anomalies associated with the isospin asymmetries of $B \to K μ^+ μ^-$ process can be explained in the scalar leptoquark model.

Probing CP violation in the neutrino sector with magic baseline experiments

We investigate the effect of CP violation in the leptonic sector. Due to the tiny neutrino masses its value is predicted to be very small and it is far beyond the experimental reach of the current experiments. Recently, the magic baseline experiment from CERN to INO (Indian Neutrino Observatory) with L=7152 km has been proposed to get a sensitive limit on $\sin θ_{13}$. We show that due to such magic baseline neutrino beam it is possible to observe CP violation in the neutrino sector upto several percent for the beam energy between (1-10) GeV.

SM with four generations: Selected implications for rare B and K decays

We extend our recent work and study implications of the Standard Model with four generations (SM4) for rare B and K decays. We again take seriously the several 2-3 $σ$ anomalies seen in B, $B_s$ decays and interpret them in the context of this simple extension of the SM. SM4 is also of course of considerable interest for its potential relevance to dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking and to baryogenesis. Using experimental information from processes such as $B \to X_s γ$, $B_d$ and $B_s$ mixings, indirect CP-violation from $K_L \to ππ$ etc along with oblique corrections, we constrain the relevant parameter space of the SM4, and find $m_{t'}$ of about 400-600 GeV with a mixing angle $| V_{t'b}^*V_{t's}|$ in the range of about (0.05 to 1.4)$\times 10^{-2}$ and with an appreciable CP-odd associated phase, are favored by the current data. Given the unique role of the CP asymmetry in $B_s \to ψϕ$ due to its gold-plated nature, correlation of that with many other interesting observables, including the semileptonic asymmetry ($A_{SL}$) are studied in SM4. We also identify several processes, such as $B \to X_s ν\barν$, $K_L \to π^0 ν\bar ν$ etc, that are significantly different in SM4 from the SM. Experimentally the very distinctive process $B_s\to μ^+μ^-$ is also discussed; the branching ratio can be larger or smaller than in SM, $(3.2 \to 4.2)\times 10^{-9}$, by a factor of ${\cal{O}}(3)$.

The fourth family: a simple explanation for the observed pattern of anomalies in B-CP asymmetries

We show that a fourth family of quarks with $m_{t'}$ in the range of (400 - 600) GeV provides a rather simple explanation for the several indications of new physics that have been observed involving CP asymmetries of the b-quark. The built-in hierarchy of the 4$\times$4 mixing matrix is such that the $t'$ readily provides a needed {\it perturbation} ($\approx 15%$) to $\sin 2 β$ as measured in $B \to ψK_s$ and simultaneously is the dominant source of CP asymmetry in $B_s \to ψϕ$. The correlation between CP asymmetries in $B_s \toψϕ$ and $B_d\toϕK_s$ suggests $m_{t'} \approx$ (400 - 600) GeV. Such heavy masses point to the tantalizing possibility that the 4th family plays an important role in the electroweak symmetry breaking.

Exclusive Weak Radiative Decays of B Mesons in the Covariant Oscillator Quark Model

Exclusive weak radiative B meson decays are studied using the covariant oscillator quark model. The branching ratios for the processes B0 to K*0 gamma and B to K* gamma have been estimated. These are in reasonable agreement with the available experimental data. The calculation has been extended to the CKM-suppressed decay processes B- to rho- gamma and Bs to K*0 gamma .

Hadronic Weak Decays of Lambda b Baryon in the Covariant Oscillator Quark Model

Cabibbo allowed two-body hadronic weak decays of Lambda b baryons are analyzed in the factorization approximation. We use the covariant oscillator quark model to evaluate the heavy to heavy and heavy to light form factors. When applied in the heavy quark limit, our form factors satisfy all the constraints imposed by heavy quark symmetry. The decay rates and up-down asymmetries for Lambda b baryon decaying into Lambda c +P(V) are calculated. It is found that the up-down asymmetry is negative in all these decay modes. Furthermore, the prediction Br(Lambda b to Lambda+J/psi)=2.49 times 10^-4 is consistent with the recent experimental data. Finally it is pointed out that the CKM-Wolfenstein parameter rho^2+eta^2, where eta is the CP phase, can be determined from the ratio of the widths Lambda b to Lambda bar D^0 and Lambda b to Lambda J/psi, independent of the QCD parameter. The value of (rho^2 +eta^2)^1/2 calculated in our model agrees very well with the value recently predicted by Rosner.
