The mean curvature flow on solvmanifolds

This work is a survey of the most relevant background material to motivate and understand the construction and classification of translating solutions to mean curvature flow on a family of solvmanifolds. We introduce the mean curvature flow and some known results in the field. In particular we explore the notion of translating solution in the Euclidean space and extensions into other Riemannian manifolds. We also include a discussion on solvmanifolds and some elements of its geometry that are relevant to our work. We finish by posing the equations that describe translating solutions to mean curvature flow on our family of 3-dimensional solvmanifolds with some additional assumptions. This project emerged at the ``Latin American and Caribbean Workshop on Mathematics and Gender'' held at Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) from May 15-20, 2022.

The Alekseevskii conjecture in low dimensions

The long-standing Alekseevskii conjecture states that a connected homogeneous Einstein space G/K of negative scalar curvature must be diffeomorphic to R^n. This was known to be true only in dimensions up to 5, and in dimension 6 for non-semisimple G. In this work we prove that this is also the case in dimensions up to 10 when G is not semisimple. For arbitrary G, besides 5 possible exceptions, we show that the conjecture holds up to dimension 8.

Homogeneous Ricci solitons in low dimensions

In this article we classify expanding homogeneous Ricci solitons up to dimension 5, according to their presentation as homogeneous spaces. We obtain that they are all isometric to solvsolitons, and this in particular implies that the generalized Alekseevskii conjecture holds in these dimensions. In addition, we prove that the conjecture holds in dimension 6 provided the transitive group is not semisimple.

The Ricci flow in a class of solvmanifolds

In this paper, we study the Ricci flow of solvmanifolds whose Lie algebra has an abelian ideal of codimension one, by using the bracket flow. We prove that solutions to the Ricci flow are immortal, the omega-limit of bracket flow solutions is a single point, and that for any sequence of times there exists a subsequence in which the Ricci flow converges, in the pointed topology, to a manifold which is locally isometric to a flat manifold. We give a functional which is non-increasing along a normalized bracket flow that will allow us to prove that given a sequence of times, one can extract a subsequence converging to an algebraic soliton, and to determine which of these limits are flat. Finally, we use these results to prove that if a Lie group in this class admits a Riemannian metric of negative sectional curvature, then the curvature of any Ricci flow solution will become negative in finite time.
