One-dimension cubic-quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation in Bose-Einstein condensates in a trap potential

By means of new general variational method we report a direct solution for the quintic self-focusing nonlinearity and cubic-quintic 1D Gross Pitaeskii equation (GPE) in a harmonic confined potential. We explore the influence of the 3D transversal motion generating a quintic nonlinear term on the ideal 1D pure cigar-like shape model for the attractive and repulsive atom-atom interaction in Bose Einstein condensates (BEC). Also, we offer a closed analytical expression for the evaluation of the error produced when solely the cubic nonlinear GPE is considered for the description of 1D BEC.

Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices: mathematical analysis and analytical approximate formulae

We show that the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with cubic nonlinearity, as a model to describe the one dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates loaded into a harmonically confined optical lattice, presents a set of ground states which is orbitally stable for any value of the self-interaction (attractive and repulsive) parameter and laser intensity. We also derive a new formalism which gives explicit expressions for the minimum energy and the associated chemical potential. Based on these formulas, we generalize the variational method to obtain approximate solutions, at any order of approximation, for the energy, the chemical potential and the ground state.

Identification of the coefficients in the linear Boltzmann equation by a finite number of boundary measurements

In this paper we consider an inverse problem for the time dependent linear Boltzmann equation. It concerns the identification of the coefficients via a finite number of measurements on the boundary. We prove that the total extinction coefficient and the collision kernel can be uniquely determined by at most k measurements on the boundary, provided that these coefficients belong to a finite k-dimensional vector space.

Mathematical analysis of successive linear approximation for Mooney-Rivlin material model in finite elasticity

For calculating large deformations in finite elasticity, we have proposed a method of successive linear approximation, by considering the relative descriptional formulation. In this article we briefly describe this method and we prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for boundary value problems for nearly incompressible Mooney-Rivlin materials, that arise in each step of the method.

Numerical simulation of salt migration -- Large deformation in viscoelastic solid bodies

We consider instability of a two layered solid body of a denser material on top of a lighter one. This problem is widely known to geoscientist in sediment-salt migration as salt diapirism. In the literature, this problem has often been treated as Raleigh-Taylor instability in viscous fluids instead of solid bodies. In this paper, we propose a successive linear approximation method for large deformation in viscoelastic solids as a model for salt migration.
