BPS Maxwell-Chern-Simons vortices with internal structures: the Abelian Higgs and the gauged $CP(2)$ cases

We investigate the existence of first-order vortices inherent to both the Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons-$CP(2)$ models extended via the inclusion of an extra scalar sector which plays the role of a source field. For both cases, we focus our attention on the time-independent configurations with radial symmetry which can be obtained through the implementation of the so-called Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) prescription. In this sense, in order to solve the corresponding first-order differential equations, we introduce some particular scenarios which are driven by the source field whose presence, we expect, must change the way the resulting vortices behave. After solving the effective first-order system through a finite-difference algorithm, we comment about the main new effects induced by the presence of the source field in the shape of the final configurations.

Self-dual solitons in a Maxwell-Chern-Simons baby Skyrme model

We have studied the existence de self-dual solitons in a gauged version of the baby Skyrme model in which the gauge field dynamics is governed by the Maxwell-Chern-Simons action. For such a purpose, we have developed a detailed implementation of the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield formalism providing the self-dual equations whose solutions saturate the energy lower bound. Such a bound related to the topological charge of the Skyrme field becomes quantized whereas both the total magnetic flux and the total electrical charge are not. We have found two types of self-dual Skyrme field profiles: the first is described by a solution which decays following an exponential-law ($e^{-αr^2}$, $α>0$); the second is portrayed by a solution having a power-law decay ($r^{-β}$, $β>0$). On other hand, in both cases the asymptotic behavior of the gauge field is similar to the one presented in the context of the Abelian Higgs models describing Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen charged vortices. Other interesting feature we highlight is the localized magnetic flux inversion, a property does not observed in others gauged baby Skyrme models already studied in literature. Numerical results are presented for rotationally symmetrical field configurations by remarking some of its essential features.

General CPT-even dimension-five nonminimal couplings between fermions and photons yielding EDM and MDM

In this letter, we examine a new class of CPT-even nonminimal interactions, between fermions and photons, deprived of higher order derivatives, that yields electric dipole moment (EDM) and magnetic dipole moment (MDM) in the context of the Dirac equation. The couplings are dimension-five CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal structures, composed of a rank-2 tensor, $T_{μν}$, the electromagnetic tensor, and gamma matrices, being addressed in its axial and non-axial Hermitian versions, and also comprising general possibilities. We then use the electron's anomalous magnetic dipole moment and electron electric dipole moment measurements to reach upper bounds of $1$ part in $10^{20}$ and $10^{25}$ (eV )$^{-1}$.

Self-dual configurations in a generalized Abelian Chern-Simons-Higgs model with explicit breaking of the Lorentz covariance

We have studied the existence of self-dual solitonic solutions in a generalization of the Abelian Chern-Simons-Higgs model. Such a generalization introduces two different nonnegative functions, $ω_1(|ϕ|)$ and $ω(|ϕ|)$, which split the kinetic term of the Higgs field - $|D_μϕ|^2 \rightarrowω_1 (|ϕ|)|D_0ϕ|^2-ω(|ϕ|) |D_kϕ|^2$ - breaking explicitly the Lorentz covariance. We have shown that a clean implementation of the Bogomolnyi procedure only can be implemented whether $ω(|ϕ|) \propto β|ϕ|^{2β-2}$ with $β\geq 1$. The self-dual or Bogomolnyi equations produce an infinity number of soliton solutions by choosing conveniently the generalizing function $ω_1(|ϕ|)$ which must be able to provide a finite magnetic field. Also, we have shown that by properly choosing the generalizing functions it is possible to reproduce the Bogomolnyi equations of the Abelian Maxwell-Higgs and Chern-Simons-Higgs models. Finally, some new self-dual $|ϕ|^6$-vortex solutions have been analyzed both from theoretical and numerical point of view.

Topological self-dual configurations in a Maxwell--Higgs model with a CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating nonminimal coupling

We have studied the existence of topological self-dual configurations in a nonminimal CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating (LV) Maxwell-Higgs model, where the LV interaction is introduced by modifying the minimal covariant derivative. The Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield formalism has been implemented, revealing that the scalar self-interaction implying self-dual equations contains a derivative coupling. The CPT-odd self-dual equations describe electrically neutral configurations with finite total energy proportional to the total magnetic flux, which differ from the charged solutions of other CPT-odd and LV models previously studied. In particular, we have investigated the axially symmetrical self-dual vortex solutions altered by the LV parameter. For large distances, the profiles possess general behavior similar to the vortices of Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen. However, within the vortex core, the profiles of the magnetic field and energy can differ substantially from ones of the Maxwell-Higgs model depending if the LV parameter is negative or positive.

Constraining CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal couplings with the electron magnetic and electric dipole moments

We analyse some dimension-five CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal couplings between fermionic and gauge fields in the context of the Dirac equation. After evaluating the nonrelativistic Hamiltonian, we discuss the behavior of the terms under discrete symmetries and analyse the implied effects. We then use the anomalous magnetic dipole moment and electron electric dipole moment measurements to reach upper bounds of $1$ part in $10^{20}$ and $10^{24}$ $\left( eV\right) ^{-1}$, improving the level of restriction on such couplings by at least 8 orders of magnitude. These upper bounds are also transferred to the Sun-centered frame by considering the Earth's rotational motion.

Lorentz-violating effects in the Bose-Einstein condensation of an ideal bosonic gas

We have studied the effects of Lorentz-violation in the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of an ideal boson gas, by assessing both the nonrelativistic and ultrarelativistic limits. Our model describes a massive complex scalar field coupled to a CPT-even and Lorentz-violating background. We irst analyze the nonrelativistic case, at this level by using experimental data, we obtain upper-bounds for some LIV parameters. In the sequel, we have constructed the partition function for the relativistic ideal boson gas which to be able of a consistent description requires the imposition of severe restrictions on some LIV coefficients. In both cases, we have demonstrated that the LIV contributions are contained in an overall factor, which multiplies almost all thermodynamical properties. An exception is the fraction of the condensed particles.

Self-dual soliton solutions in a Chern-Simons-CP(1) model with a nonstandard kinetic term

A generalization of the Chern-Simons-CP(1) model is considered by introducing a nonstandard kinetic term. For a particular case, of this nonstandard kinetic term, we show that the model support self-dual Bogomolnyi equations. The BPS energy has a bound proportional to the sum of the magnetic flux and the CP(1) topological charge. The self-dual equations are solved analytically and verified numerically.

Consistency analysis of a nonbirefringent Lorentz-violating planar model

In this work analyze the physical consistency of a nonbirefringent Lorentz-violating planar model via the analysis of the pole structure of its Feynman propagators. The nonbirefringent planar model, obtained from the dimensional reduction of the CPT-even gauge sector of the standard model extension, is composed of a gauge and a scalar fields, being affected by Lorentz-violating (LIV) coefficients encoded in the symmetric tensor $κ_{μν}$. The propagator of the gauge field is explicitly evaluated and expressed in terms of linear independent symmetric tensors, presenting only one physical mode. The same holds for the scalar propagator. A consistency analysis is performed based on the poles of the propagators. The isotropic parity-even sector is stable, causal and unitary mode for $0\leqκ_{00}<1$. On the other hand, the anisotropic sector is stable and unitary but in general noncausal. Finally, it is shown that this planar model interacting with a $λ|φ|^{4}-$Higgs field supports compactlike vortex configurations.

Aspects of a planar nonbirefringent and CPT-even electrodynamics stemming from the Standard Model Extension

We have studied a (1+2)-dimensional Lorentz-violating model which is obtained from the dimensional reduction of the nonbirefringent sector of the CPT-even electrodynamics of the standard model extension (SME). The planar theory contains a gauge sector and a scalar sector which are linearly coupled by means of a Lorentz-invariance violating (LIV) vector, $S^μ$, while the kinetic terms of both sectors are affected by the components of a Lorentz-violating symmetric tensor, $κ^{μν}$. The energy-momentum tensor reveals that both sectors present energy stability for sufficiently small values of the Lorentz-violating parameters. The full dispersion relation equations are exactly determined and analyzed for some special configurations of the LIV backgrounds, showing that the planar model is entirely nonbirefringent at any order in the LIV parameters. At first order, the gauge and scalar sectors are described by the same dispersion relations. Finally, the equations of motion have been solved in the stationary regime and at first order in the LIV parameters. It is observed that the Lorentz-violating parameters do not alter the asymptotical behavior of the electric and magnetic fields but induce an angular dependence which is not present in Maxwell's planar theory.

Dimensional reduction of the CPT-even electromagnetic sector of the Standard Model Extension

The CPT-even abelian gauge sector of the Standard Model Extension is represented by the Maxwell term supplemented by $(K_{F})_{μνρσ}F^{μν}F^{ρσ}$, where the Lorentz-violating background tensor, $(K_{F})_{μνρσ}$, possesses the symmetries of the Riemann tensor. In the present work, we examine the planar version of this theory, obtained by means of a typical dimensional reduction procedure to $(1+2)$ dimensions. The resulting planar electrodynamics is composed of a gauge sector containing six Lorentz-violating coefficients, a scalar field endowed with a noncanonical kinetic term, and a coupling term that links the scalar and gauge sectors. The dispersion relation is exactly determined, revealing that the six parameters related to the pure electromagnetic sector do not yield birefringence at any order. In this model, the birefringence may appear only as a second order effect associated with the coupling tensor linking the gauge and scalar sectors. The equations of motion are written and solved in the stationary regime. The Lorentz-violating parameters do not alter the asymptotic behavior of the fields but induce an angular dependence not observed in the Maxwell planar theory.

Strong coupling limits and quantum isomorphisms of the gauged Thirring model

We have studied the quantum equivalence in the respective strong coupling limits of the bidimensional gauged Thirring model with both Schwinger and Thirring models. It is achieved following a nonperturbative quantization of the gauged Thirring model into the path-integral approach. First, we have established the constraint structure via the Dirac's formalism for constrained systems and defined the correct vacuum--vacuum transition amplitude by using the Faddeev-Senjanovic method. Next, we have computed exactly the relevant Green's functions and shown the Ward-Takahashi identities. Afterwards, we have established the quantum isomorphisms between gauged Thirring model and both Schwinger and Thirring models by analyzing the respective Green's functions in the strong coupling limits, respectively. A special attention is necessary to establish the quantum isomorphism between the gauged Thirring model and the Thirring model.

Feynman propagator for the nonbirefringent CPT-even electrodynamics of the Standard Model Extension

The CPT-even gauge sector of the Standard Model Extension is composed of nineteen components comprised in the tensor $(K_{F})_{μνρσ}$, of \ which nine do not yield birefringence. In this work, we examine the Maxwell electrodynamics supplemented by these nine nonbirefringent CPT-even components in aspects related to the Feynman propagator and full consistency (stability, causality, unitarity). We adopt a prescription that parametrizes the nonbirefringent components in terms of a symmetric and traceless tensor, $K_{μν},$ and second parametrization that writes $K_{μν}$ in terms of two arbitrary four-vectors, $U_μ$ and $V_ν.$ We then explicitly evaluate the gauge propagator of this electrodynamics in a tensor closed way. In the sequel, we show that this propagator and involved dispersion relations can be specialized for the parity-odd\ and parity-even sectors of the tensor $(K_{F})_{μνρσ}$. In this way, we reassess some results of the literature and derive some new outcomes showing that the parity-even anisotropic sector engenders a stable, noncausal and unitary electrodynamics.

Gauge propagator and physical consistency of the CPT-even part of the Standard Model Extension

In this work, we explicitly evaluate the gauge propagator of the Maxwell theory supplemented by the CPT-even term of the SME. First, we specialize our evaluation for the parity-odd sector of the tensor $W_{μνρσ}$,\ using a parametrization that retains only the three nonbirefringent coefficients. From the poles of the propagator, it is shown that physical modes of this electrodynamics are stable, non-causal and unitary. In the sequel, we carry out the parity-even gauge propagator using a parametrization that allows to work with only the isotropic nonbirefringent element. In this case, we show that the physical modes of the parity-even sector of the tensor $W$ are causal, stable and unitary for a limited range of the isotropic coefficient.

Parity-odd and CPT-even electrodynamics of the SME at Finite Temperature

This work examines the finite temperature properties of the CPT-even and parity-odd electrodynamics of the standard model extension. We start from the partition function written into the functional integral formalism in Ref. \cite{Finite}. After specializing the Lorentz-violating tensor $ W_{ανρφ}$ for the nonbirefringent and parity-odd coefficients, the partition function is explicitly carry out, showing that it is a power of the Maxwell's partition function. Also, it is observed that the LIV coefficients induce an anisotropy in the black body angular energy density distribution. The Planck's radiation law retains its usual frequency dependence and the Stefan-Boltzmann law keeps the same form, except for a global proportionality constant.

On the Renormalizability of Theories with Gauge Anomalies

We consider the detailed renormalization of two (1+1)-dimensional gauge theories which are quantized without preserving gauge invariance: the chiral and the "anomalous" Schwinger models. By regularizing the non-perturbative divergences that appear in fermionic Green's functions of both models, we show that the "tree level" photon propagator is ill-defined, thus forcing one to use the complete photon propagator in the loop expansion of these functions. We perform the renormalization of these divergences in both models to one loop level, defining it in a consistent and semi-perturbative sense that we propose in this paper.
