Character sums of composite moduli and hybrid subconvexity

Let M=M1M2M3M=M_1 M_2 M_3 be the product of three distinct primes and let χ=χ1χ2χ3χ=χ_1 χ_2 χ_3 be a Dirichlet character of modulus MM such that each χiχ_i is a primitive character modulo MiM_i for i=1,2,3i=1,2,3. In this paper, we provide a δδ-symbol method for obtaining non-trivial cancellation in smooth character sums of the form ∑n=1∞χ(n)W(n/N)\sum_{n=1}^\infty χ(n) W(n/N), with NN roughly of size M\sqrt M and WW a smooth compactly supported weight function on (0,∞)(0, \infty). As a corollary, we establish hybrid subconvexity bounds for the associated Dirichlet LL-function.

Hybrid subconvexity bounds for L(12,Sym2f⊗g)L \left(\tfrac{1}{2}, \text{Sym}^2 f \otimes g\right)

Fix an integer κ⩾2κ\geqslant 2. Let PP be prime and let k>κk> κ be an even integer. For ff a holomorphic cusp form of weight kk and full level and gg a primitive holomorphic cusp form of weight 2κ2 κ and level PP, we prove hybrid subconvexity bounds for L(12,Sym2f⊗g)L \left(\tfrac{1}{2}, \text{Sym}^2 f \otimes g\right) in the kk and PP aspects when P1364+δ<k<P38−δP^{\frac {13} {64} + δ} < k < P^{\frac 3 8 - δ} for any 0<δ<111280 < δ< \frac {11} {128}. These bounds are achieved through a first moment method (with amplification when P1364<k⩽P413P^{\frac {13} {64}} < k \leqslant P^{\frac 4 {13}}).

The circle method and bounds for LL-functions - IV: Subconvexity for twists of GL(3)GL(3) LL-functions - B

Let ππ be a SL(3,Z)SL(3,\mathbb Z) Hecke-Maass cusp form satisfying the Ramanujan conjecture and the Selberg-Ramanujan conjecture, and let χχ be a primitive Dirichlet character modulo MM, which we assume to be prime for simplicity. We will prove the following subconvex bound L(12,π⊗χ)≪π,εM34−11612+ε. L\left(\tfrac{1}{2},π\otimesχ\right)\ll_{π,\varepsilon} M^{\frac{3}{4}-\frac{1}{1612}+\varepsilon}.

The circle method and bounds for LL-functions - II: Subconvexity for twists of GL(3) LL-functions

Let ππ be a SL(3,Z)SL(3,\mathbb Z) automorphic form. Let χ=χ1χ2χ=χ_1χ_2 be a Dirichlet character with χiχ_i primitive modulo MiM_i. Suppose M1M_1, M2M_2 are primes such that M2M4δ<M1<M2M−3δ\sqrt{M_2}M^{4δ}<M_1<M_2M^{-3δ}, where M=M1M2M=M_1M_2 and 0<δ<1/280<δ<1/28. In this paper we will prove the following subconvex bound $$ L(\t1/2,π\otimesχ)\ll_{π,\varepsilon} M^{3/4}-δ+\varepsilon}. $$

Bounds for twisted symmetric square LL-functions

Let f∈Sk(N,ψ)f\in S_k(N,ψ) be a newform, and let χχ be a primitive character of conductor qℓq^{\ell}. Assume that qq is a prime and ℓ>1\ell>1. In this paper we describe a method to establish convexity breaking bounds of the form $$ L(\tfrac{1}{2},\Sym f\otimesχ)\ll_{f,\varepsilon} q^{3/4\ell-δ_{\ell}+\varepsilon} $$ for some δℓ>0δ_{\ell}>0 and any ε>0\varepsilon>0. In particular, for ℓ=3\ell=3 we show that the bound holds with δℓ=1/4δ_{\ell}=1/4.

The circle method and bounds for LL-functions - I

Let ff be a Hecke-Maass or holomorphic primitive cusp form of arbitrary level and nebentypus, and let χχ be a primitive character of conductor MM. For the twisted LL-function L(s,f⊗χ)L(s,f\otimes χ) we establish the hybrid subconvex bound L(1/2+it,f⊗χ)≪(M(3+∣t∣))1/2−1/18+ε, L(1/2+it,f\otimesχ)\ll (M(3+|t|))^{1/2-1/18+\varepsilon}, for t∈Rt\in \mathbb R. The implied constant depends only on the form ff and ε\varepsilon.
