Benefits to the U.S. from Physicists Working at Accelerators Overseas

We illustrate benefits to the U.S. economy and technological infrastructure of U.S. participation in accelerators overseas. We discuss contributions to experimental hardware and analysis and to accelerator technology and components, and benefits stemming from the involvement of U.S. students and postdoctoral fellows in global scientific collaborations. Contributed to the proceedings of the Snowmass 2013 Community Summer Study.

Snowmass Energy Frontier Simulations

This document describes the simulation framework used in the Snowmass Energy Frontier studies for future Hadron Colliders. An overview of event generation with {\sc Madgraph}5 along with parton shower and hadronization with {\sc Pythia}6 is followed by a detailed description of pile-up and detector simulation with {\sc Delphes}3. Details of event generation are included in a companion paper cited within this paper. The input parametrization is chosen to reflect the best object performance expected from the future ATLAS and CMS experiments; this is referred to as the "Combined Snowmass Detector". We perform simulations of pppp interactions at center-of-mass energies s=\sqrt{s}= 14, 33, and 100 TeV with 0, 50, and 140 additional pppp pile-up interactions. The object performance with multi-TeV pppp collisions are studied for the first time using large pile-up interactions.

Z Prime: A Story

This is an imaginary story that could come to pass involving a detector, a Boson, and good resolution. It was written for Snowmass 2013, as a white paper for the New Physics group. The story describes a scenario in which nature has designated the existence of a Left-Right Symmetric Model Z' at a pole mass of 3 TeV, which is observed by analysers through the dilepton decay channel. Signal and Background samples were generated for a proton-proton collider at s\sqrt{s} = 14 TeV and s\sqrt{s} = 33 TeV, with enough events to represent a dataset of up to 3000 fb−1^{-1} for each centre of mass energy. These samples were passed through the Delphes fast simulation framework to produce detector reconstructed events. The story is played out from first hints to a well established new discovery with plentiful data, and attempts to capture the journey and excitement that this entails.

Next-to-Leading Order Corrections to Single Top Quark Production and Decay at the Tevatron: 2. tt-channel Process

We present a study of the tt-channel mode of single top quark production at the upgraded Tevatron ppˉp\bar{p} collider, including the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the production and the decay of a single top quark. The narrow width approximation was adopted in order to preserve the spin of the top quark in its production and decay. We discuss the effects of different O(αs)O(α_s) contributions on the inclusive cross section as well as various kinematic distributions after imposing the relevant cuts to select tt-channel single top signal events.
