Interpreting Lambda Calculus in Domain-Valued Random Variables

We develop Boolean-valued domain theory and show how the lambda-calculus can be interpreted in using domain-valued random variables. We focus on the reflexive domain construction rather than the language and its semantics. The notion of equality has to be interpreted in the Boolean algebra and when we say that an equation is valid in the model we mean that its interpretation is the top element of the Boolean algebra.

Topologies of Stochastic Markov Models: Computational Aspects

In this paper we propose two behavioral distances that support approximate reasoning on Stochastic Markov Models (SMMs), that are continuous-time stochastic transition systems where the residence time on each state is described by a generic probability measure on the positive real line. In particular, we study the problem of measuring the behavioral dissimilarity of two SMMs against linear real-time specifications expressed as Metric Temporal Logic (MTL) formulas or Deterministic Timed-Automata (DTA). The most natural choice for such a distance is the one that measures the maximal difference that can be observed comparing two SMMs with respect to their probability of satisfying an arbitrary specification. We show that computing this metric is NP-hard. In addition, we show that any algorithm that approximates the distance within a certain absolute error, depending on the size of the SMMs, is NP-hard. Nevertheless, we introduce an alternative distance, based on the Kantorovich metric, that is an over-approximation of the former and we show that, under mild assumptions on the residence time distributions, it can be computed in polynomial time.

Continuous Markovian Logics - Axiomatization and Quantified Metatheory

Continuous Markovian Logic (CML) is a multimodal logic that expresses quantitative and qualitative properties of continuous-time labelled Markov processes with arbitrary (analytic) state-spaces, henceforth called continuous Markov processes (CMPs). The modalities of CML evaluate the rates of the exponentially distributed random variables that characterize the duration of the labeled transitions of a CMP. In this paper we present weak and strong complete axiomatizations for CML and prove a series of metaproperties, including the finite model property and the construction of canonical models. CML characterizes stochastic bisimilarity and it supports the definition of a quantified extension of the satisfiability relation that measures the "compatibility" between a model and a property. In this context, the metaproperties allows us to prove two robustness theorems for the logic stating that one can perturb formulas and maintain "approximate satisfaction".

Parameterized Metatheory for Continuous Markovian Logic

This paper shows that a classic metalogical framework, including all Boolean operators, can be used to support the development of a metric behavioural theory for Markov processes. Previously, only intuitionistic frameworks or frameworks without negation and logical implication have been developed to fulfill this task. The focus of this paper is on continuous Markovian logic (CML), a logic that characterizes stochastic bisimulation of Markov processes with an arbitrary measurable state space and continuous-time transitions. For a parameter epsilon>0 interpreted as observational error, we introduce an epsilon-parameterized metatheory for CML: we define the concepts of epsilon-satisfiability and epsilon-provability related by a sound and complete axiomatization and prove a series of "parameterized" metatheorems including decidability, weak completeness and finite model property. We also prove results regarding the relations between metalogical concepts defined for different parameters. Using this framework, we can characterize both the stochastic bisimulation relation and various observational preorders based on behavioural pseudometrics. The main contribution of this paper is proving that all these analyses can actually be done using a unified complete Boolean framework. This extends the state of the art in this field, since the related works only propose intuitionistic contexts that limit, for instance, the use of the Boolean logical implication.
