Comparative analysis of real experiments and digital (ICT) simulations regarding their impact on student learning

This study, conducted among more than 250 physics and chemistry teachers in Morocco, analyzes the impact of experimentation on student learning and attention in middle and high school. The results show that the majority of teachers favor digital simulations, except for simple experiments such as electrical circuits. This choice is linked to material constraints, class size, and safety requirements. Simulations are perceived as practical and flexible, allowing experiments to be repeated or slowed down to facilitate understanding. However, teachers emphasize the need for specific ICT training in order to better integrate these tools into their practices. The most effective strategy identified is based on a hybrid approach: using simulations to explain abstract phenomena and real experiments to develop experimental skills, methodological rigor, and critical thinking. This complementary approach appears to be a promising solution for enriching science education and overcoming the constraints encountered in schools.

Floquet-driven tunneling control in monolayer MoS$_2$

We study how fermions in molybdenum disulfide MoS$_2$ interact with a laser field and a static potential barrier, focusing on the transmission probability. Our aim is to understand and control photon-assisted quantum transport in this two-dimensional material under external driving. We use the Floquet approximation to describe the wave functions in the three regions of the system. By applying continuity conditions at the boundaries, we obtain a set of equations involving an infinite number of Floquet modes. We explicitly determine transmissions involving the central band $E$ and the first sidebands $E \pm \hbarω$. As for higher-order bands, we use the transfer matrix approach together with current density to compute the associated transmissions. Our results reveal that the transmission probability oscillates for both spin-up and spin-down electrons. The oscillations of spin-down electrons occur over nearly twice the period of spin-up electrons. Among all bands, the central one consistently shows the highest transmission. We also find that stronger laser fields and wider barriers both lead to reduced transmission. Moreover, laser irradiation enables controllable channeling and filtering of transmission bands by tuning the laser intensity and system parameters. This highlights the potential of laser-driven MoS$_2$ structures for highly sensitive electromagnetic sensors and advanced optoelectronic devices.

Effect of magnetic field on fermions in graphene through time-oscillating potential

We study the effect of a magnetic field on Dirac fermions in graphene subject to a scalar potential oscillating in time. Using the Floquet theory and resonance approximation, we show that the energy spectrum exhibits extra subbands resulted from the oscillating potential in addition to quantized Landau levels. It is found that a current density can be generated in $ x $ and $ y $-directions that is strongly dependent on the magnetic field and potential. Our numerical analysis show that the energy spectrum possesses a symmetry and the current density oscillates with different amplitudes under various conditions.
