Computably Enumerable Sets that are Automorphic to Low Sets

We work with the structure consisting of all computably enumerable (c.e.) sets ordered by set inclusion. The question we will partially address is which c.e.\ sets are autormorphic to low (or low2_2 sets. Using work of Miller, we can see that every set with semilow complement is Δ30Δ^0_3 automorphic to a low set. While it remains open whether every set with semilow complement is effectively automorphic to a low set, we show that there are sets without semilow complement that are effectively automorphic to low sets. We also consider other lowness notions such as having a semilow1.5_{1.5} complement, having the the outer splitting property, and having a semilow2_2 complement. We show that in every non low \ce degree, there are sets with semilow1.5_{1.5} complements without semilow complements as well as sets with semilow2_2 complements and the outer splitting property that do not have semilow1.5_{1.5} complements. We also address the question of which sets are automorphic to low2_2 sets.

Random strings and tt-degrees of Turing complete C.E. sets

We investigate the truth-table degrees of (co-)c.e.\ sets, in particular, sets of random strings. It is known that the set of random strings with respect to any universal prefix-free machine is Turing complete, but that truth-table completeness depends on the choice of universal machine. We show that for such sets of random strings, any finite set of their truth-table degrees do not meet to the degree~0, even within the c.e. truth-table degrees, but when taking the meet over all such truth-table degrees, the infinite meet is indeed~0. The latter result proves a conjecture of Allender, Friedman and Gasarch. We also show that there are two Turing complete c.e. sets whose truth-table degrees form a minimal pair.
